What wedges do you play and why?

Brand? Interested in knowing thoughts and opinions.

Im going to have to bear down and get a 56 SW I think. Most lofted I carry is a 50 and it hurt me at times around the green (duh) with rolling out, etc....bunker play, etc...

Looking for something that is a good club, prolly not a tour level though.....

Mizuno MPR 51, 56 and 60

I currently have a set of Vokey RAW wedges I am using: 52, 56 and 58. However, I am looking to probably buy a Mizuno 56 real soon and try them out. I was carrying 3 wedges until two weeks ago whenever I took the 52 and 58 out. I have found the 56 to be adequate and have not missed the other wedges so far. I have them in my walking bag now with my MP-33s.

This is my wedge, 52* bought it from eBay, bent to 48* which becomes my wonderful gap wedge. How much do I like them? I bought 4 of them from eBay, brand new at $9 each, SƠƠƠO GƠƠƠƠƠOD...

56* TM sand wedge and a 54* Callaway Tour wedge, TM wedge may perform just a touch better for me, but La Jolla Knife works so great for me, very confident from 50-75 yds

Like the Lovett they are not things of beauty, but if they work for you more power to your elbow.

48* gap wedge, wow I thought 48 wAs the nor for Pw I thought gap was normally 52*, bridging the gap between 48 Pw to 56SW but hey what do I know.. More power to your.. Erm trolley..

Gold's Factory. Fantastic wedges, not so popular, though.

Cleveland CG14 56" and 60"...I love them, and they come in a really cool camo paint job (which is actually a little distracting)

I had the Cleveland CG12 48, 52, 56, 60 and ended up with the Vokey SM 50, 54, 58. I can't really decide which I like better. I like the lofts on the Vokeys better but I think I might like the head weight better on the CG12's. Next time I play with my father in law I'll have to A/B again....

Srixon wg706 52,54,58. I use them cuz they kick monster ass. I liked the U grooves and face milling I can get mass backspin

It's 52* gap wedge, but because of its design it plays more like 56* because it's VERY easy to get under a ball with a VERY high ball flight, I feel like Phil M. , so I have to bend it to 48* which plays more like 50-52* , Trust me, it's a wonderful wedge, that's why I bought 4 of them and bend them all to 48* before I can't find the 52* LaJolla Knife wedge anymore

Does Vokey have a milled face? Does the milled face really make a big difference in spin?

I play 3 wedges in addition to the PW that's part of my iron set:
Cleveland 900 52 degree low bounce wedge. This club is my normal selection for around the green shots. Because it is a "low bounce", I can play from tight fairway lies with it and I can even open the face and still keep the leading edge near to the ground.

Titleist Vokey "spin milled" 56-14 sand wedge. Obviously, useful from the sand, but also because I can get so much spin from it, it's useful for shots from longer grass where I need the ball to check up quicker. Also, if the ball is in deeper grass, the deeper bounce helps to prevent the club from passing to low under the ball.

Titleist Vokey "spin milled" 60 degree low bounce lob wedge. When I really need to through the ball into the air and stop it quickly, this is the club. Even when I play it back in the stance and don't throw it so high, the spin can get the ball to stop really quickly. The only thing I have to watch out for is using it out of deep grass with the face open. I've gone almost completely under the ball a couple of times and left it in the rough.

Makes all the difference face milling is the absolute best. Two different grooves one deep and one that looks like a thumb print. It grabs the ball andputs massive backspin.

Is that spin milling illegal or something? Didn't they just change the groove rules to allow for less spinning? What if you could put like 2 way tape on the face and just put ridiculous spin on the ball...

I don't know about the spin milling being illegal, but the grooves *in* the face of the spin milled wedges I've got will become illegal...

I play the Vokey Spin Milled. I like Titleist Wedges better because they are heavier. You can let the weight do a lot of the work for you. Better to control.

TM rac Satin 52 GAP, 56 sand and 60 lob, along with the 48 PW from the rac MB TP's. I play them because they feel and perform consistent with my set, so I know what I'm getting no matter which iron/wedge I'm using. I like consistency in the feel of my set.

No complaints about them whatsoever. The 56 has a dual sole grind which provides varying degrees of bounce depending on how far you lay it open, making it very versatile. The 52 GW just blends perfectly with the 48 PW making the whole bunch seem like a single set of irons from 3-LW. No strange yardage gaps. If you like the irons, the matching wedges are a no-brainer.

I have vokey spin milled and if you nip one they spin the ball heaps. Like FON I also have a set of TM rac wedges and they work just fine. They seem to be pretty good value also and not as pricey as the mizzys, tittys and clevelands.

Yup. That is the very club I have...

I have Cleveland GG10's in 54 and 60. Unlike many posters above, I bought the Vokey SM in the same lofts and similar bounce and hated them. I think they feel much lighter than the CG10's and the spin milling did nothing except make them dirty. The Titties also felt much more harsh, especially on shorter shots.
The CG10's were going pretty cheap since Cleveland made CG12's a couple years ago, but I'm not sure there is much stock left of new clubs.
I'm probably going to by some new wedges that are forged over the off-season. I'm going to try out the 52-56-60 route. Lately I've found myself in the yardage gap between PW and 54. Just have to figure out which club to ditch.

I play a 54* cg14 with high bounce, and a 58* cg12 dsg with a lower bounce. They are ok, nothing special. I played tm rac's 52 56 60 before the clevelands, and they play about the same to me. I like the 54 & 58 setup better than the 52, 56, 60 setup. I would probably be fine with just a 56 (my pw is 48).

I may try the cleveland 588...borrowed a friends and it really fit my eye.

I play a Cleveland CG 10 54 degree w/ low bounce and it is a good utlitly wedge for all sorts of short game shots. I also carry a Callaway X Tour 58 degree (w/ 10 degree bounce) as a strong lob wedge. It spins the ball well, albeit it shreds soft cover 3 piece balls. I occasionally carry a Titliest 690 CB gap wedge when I dont need an extra long club in the bag and it is useful on approach and bump and run shots. I am tinkering with a Cleveland 588 64 degree just for kicks, but I cant attest to it since I have rarely used it in actual play.

What wedges do I play, and why?

1. multiple wedges of different lofts, bounce angles, cambers, and sole grinds
2. to get the ball as close to the hole as possible, in order to lower my score

I play Scratch wedges. I know they cost alot more than an off the shelf wedge, but they customize them to my exact specifications.

There's just something about a perfect fit that's worth a little more. If it's a little too tight, well, that's her problem.

I get up and down with these, Hogan Riviera 52-08 gap,56-12 sand and 60-04 lob ,
forged 1020 carbon steel, i play these because they work well for me,and have a pretty good feel.

I have a few sets of wedges, but I primarily play with the two listed below.

I play the custom fit Swing Science "T" (Tour) wedges (left-hand), in lofts of 52°, 56°, and 60°. Why? 'Cuz they're awesome, and fit to ME and my swing perfectly (length, lie, flex, SW/MOI, etc.).

The other set I use a fair bit is a custom fit set of PPC CNC machined wedges, same lofts. Why? Same answer as above.

I used to have one of these, customized to my friend and not me. I found the GF's better.

In the past I have gamed 58* and 60* wedges and used them with very little bounce.

I have Eidolon wedges and they are awesome. Comes with a rifle spinner shaft stock.

I play Ping Tour wedges 52, 56, 60 because I got them for free. They work fine though and I can't stand people who think Vokeys or Clevelands are totally better...I've played with both in the past and the Ping Tours barely differ.

I have 3 sets of wedges.

Vokey 200 52.08 56.10 60.05

Cleveland TA 588 53.8 57.10 60.8(not sure on the bounce)

Mizuno MP 52.7 (R series) 56.08 (T series) 58.10 (R series)


Mizuno has the best feel of the 3. Cleveland has the best spin. Vokey's are OK at both spin and feel but I like the trajectory on full shots.

I started off with Cleveland 588 51* & 56* wedges then added a 60* lob wedge. I lost the 51* and replaced it with a 52* Cleveland CG12 and for a long time played the 52, 56, 60 combo. However this involved leaving out 1 club (usually the 3 or 4 iron) which I never liked doing so this year I tried the 52* 58* combo. I couldn't get a CG12 58* at the time so I bought a Callaway X Forged 58* wedge. Even with that combo I found a bit of a gap between the 52* & 58* so lately I have just gone back to the 52* & 56* wedges. I find I hardly ever need a lob wedge so the 52 & 56 combo works fine most of the time.

I play Macgregor Tourney Froged in 52 and 60, and from my vast selection of 56s I currently bag the Adams GT Tourney. I'm not really in lov with any of them, but I've got used to the 60 especially in bunkers so it will probably stay in the bag, and for some reason I like the 56. The new (second hand) set of forged irons I'm getting comes with a 56 so I might give it a go. I've got a Vokey 56 but I find it to be absolute rubbish. Even without the Titty ban there is no way I would put that piece of crap in the bag.

Never played a frog wedge. Tell us more. Does the ball jump off the face? Are they good in the water for amphibious golf shots?
