Different Strokes for different folks....
I play with this X-16 set , but not Pro Series... Does it make me a woman? *_*
Best Clubs Ever for Me - a Woman, 5-handicapper
Written: Jun 03 '04
Product Rating:
Pros: Forgiveness, playability, great distance, great looks, great feel.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: These are excellent clubs, even for low handicappers who demand a lot of shaping of shots and feel from a club. Too pricey, perhaps.

summerlee's Full Review: Callaway Steelhead Pro Series Irons X-16
I am surprised at the lukewarm response these clubs are getting so far, but I also find some of what others have said true; the truest being that an affinity for a brand or type of golf clubs is based on an extremely subjective experience. But, I feel I have some things to add:
I am a woman golfer, 5 handicap, who has played competitive golf, can hit my 5 iron about 165 at sea level, and have played alongside some LPGA pro golfers -- many of whom use these clubs. I also know that most, if not all, of a golf club's performance is based on the ability of the person swinging them.
I also hit a consistent draw and am a feel player. I like the sight of the X-16's thicker club face when I line up, but I have also like the thin look of a forged blade. All of my fairway woods (also Big Bertha's) have firm shafts, though I found the regular shafts on the irons suited me well.
I bought my X-16's (regular steel shafts) a year ago, after having used and tested the gamut, including Titleist 960's, Ping's (many different series), TaylorMades, Mizuno's, etc. I am not a label queen and was playing with home-made Harvey Penick's for many years, as well as with a knock-off set of Lynx for even longer. I do understand that the cost of club is from the marketing of big labels. I set out to buy a set of Ping's, a smaller company that bases a lot of their product on scientific studies, and was test-hitting them, when I was offered other clubs to try, including the Callaway X-16's. I bought the Callaway's in less than 10 minutes of hitting them. Everyone, from a 20 handicap to scratch, has loved my clubs when they've tried them.
Without repeating much of what has been said, I will add that I find these clubs very playable, and that was important to me since I shape all of my iron shots, especially drawing my long irons. I totally disagree that you can not work the ball left or right, since I do that nearly every shot with these irons. Again, there are so many variables in what makes any individual able to work a shot, that I find it hard to blame any club for it's playability. My experience has been that a club with a smaller sweet spot is much harder to consistently draw of fade a shot, the margin for error being a lot less. Perhaps that's why I love these Callaway's.
I don't agree that these clubs are for 18+ handicap golfers. I have watched many scratch golfers use them. I do agree that they are extremely forgiving, but I don't subscribe to the school of thought that if clubs are forgiving then they are for higher handicappers. Even professional golfers make mistakes in a round -- so why not limit their consequences.
I don't agree that these clubs produce little or no feedback. I do feel in these clubs when I hit in different spots, at different approaches. It feels different than the hardness of a Titleist or a Mizuno blade, but the feedback is there. I don't need to be honked when I miss a shot, perhaps because I am more of a feel player than the average Joe. Additionally, I do get a ton of feedback from the sound of the club, as well as from the flight of the ball.
I suggest, contrary to the others reviewing this product, that these clubs are for a broader group of golfers -- and among them are some low-handicappers like me who do shape the ball and find these clubs extremely playable.

It's hard for me to give you any love here. I played the X-18s for a year and they didn't knock 4 strokes off my score. They might have added 4 strokes though . . . . .
