Euro Tour vs. US Tour Production
Does everyone notice the difference in the production of Euro golf on TV vs US? I'm not saying one is far more better than the other but very different. Kinda like Benny Hill vs. Saturday Night Live. You have to really pay attention to the Euro announcers to keep up. The play by play Yanks are more talkative. The thing I do like about the US production is the shot info, ie: Distance of shot and club selection. I'm watching the Singapore tourney and they're not giving anything like that.
-
Usually the European Tour isn't broadcast in HD. The Euro announcers aren't as colorful as the US announcers. Watching the European tour is kind of like watching a Busch race instead of Nascar. There are a few stars present, but the overall talent and production is lacking.
-
The problem the European announcers have is they spend most of their time doing play by play for chess matches and only occasionally do golf. A big golf shot just isn't exciting for them after watching guys move their rooks all week.

And, when they are not announcing chess, they are announcing Cricket and Soccer which is equally as boring . . . . . .

I prefer the commentry stlye on the coverage of the European tour. I think you guys have got it all wrong. Sure it is more sedate and less whiz-bang than the U.S. but that is what you would expect. Their commentators are very experienced and have an awsome knoweledge of the game.
It is like comparing the the crowds that show up at the respective events. Especially when the Euro tour is in Scotland. The americans are loud, and rushing around everywhere trying to glimpse their big celebrities; whilst the the Euro crowd is quieter and appreciative of a great shot regardless of who plays it.
-
I'm not watching any Singapore Open telecasts, but as a rule I like the Euro telecasts better. The announcers call the golf accurately and don't try to be more important than the players or event. McCord is probably the worst of the bunch on the American telecasts, but most of them are star-worshipping assshats and the coverage is limited to Tiger and the big stars regardless of who is leading.
Really quite an accomplishment for the Euro telecasts, given that the events are played on second-rate goat tracks with second-rate players. Kudos, Europe.

I am gratified that we see this eye to eye HB. I always knew you had class.

Like I've always said, I'm classy as fukc. My incredible class, wit, and knowledge keeps me humble.

Yes your humility has always been a shining light.
It has been said that a man of wit is at no advantage unless among an audience of the witless.
Describes GR to a t.

Hey hey hey hey ... you dissin the great forum that is GR?
BTW wasn't it yet another great, gutsy performance by Wobbie (Dingo) Deans Wobbollies last night?
-
I completley agree with the old man and bigballs oN this, American commentators must talk for talks sake, the european telecasters are a lot more accurate and appreciative of the sport itself, all this said I have to agree with what our I tai freind from orange county said a few months ago... PETER ALISS IS A NINCOMPOOP... Well said x
zo...
Have to agree also that mccord is a big timing asstube...

Present company excepted of course. You know me; rather 3 putt every hole and shoot 100 than offend anyone. Please accept my apology if any offence was taken.
As usual I'm not talking Rugby today. :cryin:

You follow the rugby Burndog? Now that we've dusted up the Wannabees 4 times in a row we're coming over to put an ass whoopin on that bunch of red rose pretenders at Twickenham in a couple of weeks.

Getting cocky now eh?
I heard that those poms have recalled Johnny Wilkinson to show you Kiwis how to kick it over the dot.
-
I don't I'm affraid mate.. All blacks are a force to be reckoned with... Whatever happened to Jonah lomu.. Last I heard he had some sort of muscle disorder or something.. He's not dead is he..

Are you kidding? That broken down old has been. Didn't you notice Dan Carter kicked 100% last night. Now there is a true ball playing flyhalf compared to that robotic goal kicking machine which is all Wilkinson ever was.
It's like comparing a shotmaker like Tiger with a robotic Kenny Perry. Not even in the same class.

He had kidney failure which ended his career prematurely but he has had a transplant and is alive and well. He was on TV last night and has just been appointed Rugby ambassador for the Japanese Rugby World Cup bid in 2019. He's doing well but it was a shame his career was curtailed so early.
I had the privilege of witnessing one of his greatest ever performances live in Capetown in the 1995 World Cup where he singlehandedly demolished a very strong English team. It was a strange feeling in the stands as the match was effectively over as a contest after 5 minutes and the normally loud and boisterous English crowd went eerily quiet. Swing Low Sweet Chariot was not heard once all afternoon.
-
I don't belive swing low wasn't sang once, the welsh sing "swing low sweet chariot, the only song the phucking English know" quite funny.
Lomu is a machine, I'm sure in his prime he was about 19stone and could run the 100metres in about 10 seconds or something crazy like that.. Respect.
As for wilkinson, I am a fan, but do think he was relied upon a bit too much, he could win a game for you though...

That's one of the things I like about you Kiwi. You're so passionate about the game we can never fail in getting a bite. keep up the good work.
In all seriousness the All Blacks are so good it is intensly boring for anyone except a Kiwi.
-
BTW where is HB, you seem to turn plenty of threads into rugby/all black treatises.
It's a bit like Lorenzo turning every thread in to a commentry on his sexlife and appendage.

The difference is, my sex life and appendage are important.

They whooped our butts 3 consecutive times this year! :(

They are just having a good year. They are not a serious threat to the AB dominance.

Wait a minute, I thought you had a failed wife. Now who are you doing everyday ?

On top of of what HB said, the American tour has Jim Nantz. End of argument. Euro tour wins.

Peter's velvety tones are the greatest, looking at the crowd all day and not talking about the competion, just about all the pals he has who are dying and wishing them well, now thats what i want to hear!, not distances and club selection oh no!

I guess I am in the minority because I like the American broadcasts much better. I happen to think Gary McCord and the other "cut-ups" are the greatest thing to happen to PGA golf short of Tiger Woods. But, then again, the FBR Open is one of my most favorite golf tournaments so that might tell you a little about how I like to see my golf on TV . . . . . .

McCord and Feherty are a great double team, but even they can't make up for Nantz. He is just the worst presenter in the history of sport. His saccharine Masters strolls down memory lane have me reaching for the bucket.

I had to reserect this thread after watching the Shanghi tourney this morning. I don't even need to get into the way Tiger has absolutey hacked his way through the front nine. What I just can't understand is why the f.uck they can't they post yardages/club selection? Is it that difficult? Does anyone have a GD GPS over there? Geezus H! When I hear "He's got quite a long way to go for his 2nd shot" it drives me batshite!
Freekin Euro's.....Get with the program!....
