looking for very forgiving set of irons
I'm getting back into golf after a few year absence. My irons are ~15 years old and I have trouble with the medium to longer iron shots (3,4, 5 and sometimes 6 irons). I'm considering buying a new set of irons that are very forgiving. Distance is not a problem for me, just getting it up in the air consistently and hitting the ball relatively straight. For perspective, I typically shoot over 100. Can anyone suggest a suitable set of Irons for me.
Thanks
Will

Anything game improving or super game improving will help. Just try out some different OEM stuff. Also, dont be afraid to ditch the longer irons for hybrids to help with the longer shots.
Best of luck.

For someone who shoots over 100 you should probably go with the Ping K15 irons, woods and Driver. They are very expensive but if you care about the game and hold it sacred then you will fork over the dough.
If you want to go the cheap route, you should go to Rockbottomgolf, Ebay or somewhere else and get some Callaway X-18 or X-20 clubs. They will be much more forgiving than your current set.

Confucious say "Most forgiving iron in bag is hand iron and best wood is pencil."

You can buy these as super game improvements. If they do not improve your golf game, you can at least use them for these purposes as well:
1.) Garden implements
2.) Snow skiing
3.) Inducing vomiting
4.) Hook behind tractor to plow up a garden spot
5.) Tie a club on each side of head on Halloween and go to party as Dumbo the Elephant

there are many sets of irons out there that will be great for you but it depends if you want to buy brand new irons or second hand. Here are a few sets that would meet your needs:
Callaway
X-18, X-20 or X-22
Big Bertha, Diablo
Taylormade
RAC OS or OS 2
R7, Burner, R9
Ping
G5, G10, G15
Rapture
Cleveland
Ta7, Ta6, CG Yellow, CG 7, CG 16, Launcher
As somebody else mentioned you can get hybrid irons to replace your 3, 4 & 5 irons if you struggle to hit those. All the above brands offer good quality hybrids and some such as the Cleveland Launchers offer a mixed hybrid set with hybrids in the 3,4 & 5 irons and 6-PW forgiving irons. The Ta 7 is also a model that was very popular back about 2005 and Cleveland have re released it:

Famousdavis suggestion to look on Rockbottom Golf is a good one if you want to buy new clubs as they offer gear that is 1 or 2 years out of season at heavily discounted prices.

I heard that Ping is coming out with a forgiving set. There's a little speaker built in each shaft that says "I forgive you" when you make a bad shot. Pricey yes, but probably worth it if you're a hack.

Never had them. I'm very much into hygiene. Most people who play Ping Eye 2s never get them. Suprisingly, guys that bag GFF seem to get them all the time. All that sphincter clenching when hitting blades will do it every time. You wouldn't know with your 80% hybrid bag.

Definitely get a set with the 3,4,and 5 iron as a hybrid club. That will help you out so much and tour players do it so you should take note.
Good luck and welcome to the forum. Expect some people to rip you though if you do fill your bag with hybrids, that's just how it is around here :-)

If you don't mind the name "Adams" then IMO they are great clubs for starter/average player ... A set of Adams Idea Tech OS should cost less than $125, easy to hit and very forgiving... Keep in mind that the No 1 female who plays Adams clubs and she will beat the shììittttt out of all GRs here...
Once you outgrew Adams clubs then move to Mizuno GFF then see your scores get even better from 80 to 95

Adams has some great products out. The CB1 and CB2 are both quality clubs and the Speedline 9046L or whatever they call it looks really cool in all black. When I tee it up I feel like I'm in an action-thriller movie and the bad guys are out to get me. Golf has never been so cool.

It's definitely easier to spread butter on a baguette with a blade.

Blades will onoyl make you better if you have hours and hours to spend practicing a swing the is repaetable.
In my opinion a few of the older mizuno sets would be good like the mx15 or mx20's are good forgiving clubs and prettty cheap on ebay in half decent condition.

You're welcome. However, I'm sad to say that this is my last Ping post. I think the whole Ping thing has run its course and to be honest I don't like their latest offerings. The G20 driver and irons don't appeal to me at all. I'll always have my Ping Eye 2s but for the time being I'll be playing Titleist 990's or some other kind of small cavity back with little offset.
You probably made a good choice with the G15 irons.

Why is more people playing good for the game? All it means for an expert player like myself is more hackers on the course taking 5 hours to play. Guys who think the game is just about being out there and having a good time.
Golf is about competition with other golfers who know how to play the game correctly. It's not about spending 5 hours on the course looking for your ball and drinking beer.
It's also about being part of the elite and separating yourself from the general masses of the public. Golf used to be a sport for the upper crust, those who appreciate the finer things in life. The good old days.

They did nothing to improve your swing, but they might have covered up some flaws you have in your swing so that you can score better. They are called "game improvement" irons, not "swing improvement" irons.

I can see both sides of this problem. On the one hand more people playing means that the demand for playing time on golf courses will exceed the supply of golf course time since golf courses take much longer and loads more capital to develop than getting more people interested in playing golf. Bottom line: golf gets more expensive and more of a hassle for old fashioned players like FD and myself and loads of others to just go play. On the other hand, the fewer people who play, the cheaper golf would become and the easier it would be to just show up, go pay your fee, stick your bag on back of a cart, put your shoes on, go in take a quick dump and grab a burger, and tee off. Problem: at some point, reduced play will cause a certain number of courses to become insolvent and they will fold decreasing the availability of supply. The best of both worlds would be enough courses so that prices would be reasonable and enough education of new (and re-education camps for the experienced) golfers in how to play without holding up the people behind or pushing the group up front. I would much rather play a course full of foursomes that go off at 10 minute intervals and keep pace than play a half-full course with several groups of slow play morons interspersed so that the round takes five hours. Again, that's the miserable legacy of Tiger Woods and his popularity spawing loads of new players. For his penance, he should be forced to record and pay for public service announcements urging all players to speed it the f*ck up. And the PGA tour should set the example by enforcing its time rules and severely penalizing players who fall behind without any outside influences like weather. I mean like they've all got course charts and green schematics so why does the idiot have to eyeball every seven footer from 10 points of the compass and then consult his caddie after caddie does same? One thing I noticed about Daly yesterday is that every time the director ordered a shot of him, Daly had either already hit his shot or was in his takeaway. Kudos on him. Just git'er done.

More players means more gouging from golf club owners. Less players means great deals on membership, smaller fields and quicker rounds. A no brainer really.
The only real downside is a lowering of standards and more blue jeans and saddle shoes ensembles but I can live with that.
