Ideal foursome...
If you could pick 3 current pros to play with, who would it be and why?

I'd probably go for Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke to start with - British bias and I think they'd be a fun pairing for 18 holes...

Then throw in some attractive female golfer...Natalie Gulbis looks ok from the photos I've seen, but I must confess my knowledge of female golfers is pretty poor. I play like one, though. Don't know if Nats is any good or not, but who cares if she's hot totty?

I'd substitute Natalie for a better looker if there are any suggestions!

There was a Scottish golfer called Brian Barnes - quite a character - that would have been fun to play with...he was once reprimanded for using his beer can to mark his ball while playing in the Scottish Professional Championship. He escaped serious punishment as the beer was supplied by the tournament sponsors.

That's the kinda guy you want to play with, I reckon!

Just guess what country I'm from after reading my ideal foursome. All three are pro's but two are not golf pro's.

Me
Wayne Gretzky
Mario Lemieux
Mike Weir

I'm sure fellow Canadians on the board couldn't argue with this foursome.

Here's my foursome with consisting of only golfers.

Me
Mike Weir
Sergio Garcia
Ernie Els

Mike, because he is my favorite golfer. Sergio because he would be alot of fun to play golf with. And of course Ernie just to watch that swing.

Ben Hogan
David Duval
Nick Faldo

Tiger----because he's Tiger...plus maybe he would bring his wife.

Fred Couples----because he seems pretty cool. And he is highlight reel boy, it seems even in his mediocre rounds be pulls off some ridiculous hole out.

Then the iffy choice, I would have to have Darren Clark, and Daley in the same slot based on who was the least hung-over. If both were still sleeping it off I would have to take the Walrus.

Ernie Els, to admire his swing.
Sergio Garcia, because I think he'd be a lot of fun.

Does Charles Barkley count as a pro? If so, I want to play with him, just to make myself feel REALLY good about my swing.

Other than that, maybe Vijay and Annika, just to watch the fireworks.

Perhaps his coffin could be placed on a trailer pulled behind a cart and dragged around the course.
Actually, if the criteria of "living" is mandatory, it would disqualify a lot of "voters" in the last presidential election!

Smart Besson.

I would choose Tiger (obviously) Who doesnt want to answer to "Where have you been?" "Playing Golf, With Tiger"
Els - Classic swing, good nature
Annika (round up a day of shame by losing to a lady, ehm, lets not say by how many strokes)

Threadjack alert...
OK, I went out to www.lpga.com to get my list of 3 playing partners together (that should answer the "and why" part, BTW) and couldn't even finish after I started looking at the player pictures. JaySus! Put some makeup on, women. Do something for these pictures. I've seen 8th grade class pictures that were better prepared for!

So, to answer the question, I have been unable to come to a decision on the foursome. After those pics, I'm thinking Freddie Couples, John Daly and Phil Micky. It's a pitty I had to pick on personality.

Wier- He's a Canuck and hes a great player and super nice guy
Singh - Despite what you hear hes one of teh nicer guys on tour and plus fricking #1 in the world
Price - also a very nice guy, I would think he'd be up for a littel lesson or 100 during the round.

beemer would also be a godo guy to play with as would teegro, and duval.

I would play with Vijay, Tiger and Ernie because they are the worlds top golfers. However if I get a second chance then it would be Daly, Sergio and Clarke. We would all smoke, have a few beers and discuss Tiger's swing and his wife along the way.

If I could play with any 3 other golf pros they would be:

Moe Norman, purest ball striker ever and quite the character
Ben Hogan, Another premier great and visionary
Harvey Penick, just think what he could do for my swing

If I was going out to drink beers and have fun, it would be Daly, Freddie and Vijay. We'd get Veej so slammed he'd be calling Annika for a date.

Me personally I would have to set up two foursomes. For the morning round I would have to select: Nick Price to learn more about the golf swing. Nick Faldo, he won 3 Open Championships and 3 Masters, also seems like a pleasure to be around. Davis Love III, I have always respected him and would just love to meet him.

The afternoon round would consist of: Fred Couples, I absolutely love his swing. Phil Mickelson, my favorite golfer right now, and would like to learn from him how to be such a great dad. Also, he is funny. Wow, another funny, fat man. Finally, I would select Greg Norman. I would want to get some business tips from him, drink some of his wine, and just like to shoot the breeze. Most of all I would want Norman in my foursome because the day I fell in love with golf was the day he won the Open Championship in 1993. Ever since then he has been my all-time favorite golfer.

I think we don't see Tiger on the lists here because these are more golf educated people than those who are huge Tiger fans. I'm getting real tired of hearing "You Da Man." Speaking for myself, I can think of a couple of reasons...

I don't think he'd be as friendly on the course as the guys I'd mentioned (Westwood/Clarke) which is why VJ was also off my list. I'm sure he's a nice enough guy, nothing at all against him, but not the sort of guy I'd enjoy a round with.

Also, I'd be way too much in awe so would be even worse than usual!

All in, a round with Tiger would of course be a fantastic opportunity, but I don't reckon I'd enjoy it.

It just seems like you have a lot of misguided anger for Tiger and the "uneducated in golf etiquette." I'm a Tiger fan. Surprisingly enough, I'm also half-versed in golf etiquette. The two don't go hand-in-hand. Sure, Tiger's popularity has magnitized the interest of a few Cro-mags. But it's also escalated the sport to a new era of higher paychecks, higher television viewership, and larger galleries (including Tiger fans who don't use blowhorns).

The dog shouldn't be brought up here Buddha. ;)

I would have to agree with the sentiments about Tiger and the antics of even the minority of his fans. I almost can't stand watching the guy play unless it's on mute. He must have a guy that gets paid to yell garbage at the top of his lungs on every shot. "Get in the Hole!" and he's 75 feet from the pin. Nice.

I have no problem with people bring popularity to the game. That's what it's all about. But that doesn't mean you have to make it "extreme". I'm sure ESPN is creating an extreme golf show that will come out this summer. But on the course, go applaud good shots and cheer on your favorite competitor. But this isn't the NFL, so keep your whistles and yelling to a minimum. Being appreciative isn't the same as making the guy your cheering for look like a doofus because the legions of fans that follow him act like rejects. (Yes Buddha, this includes you.....)

Remember Arnies Army? They cheered him along after good shots, but almost never whooped and hollered after every single shot, fat or thin.

I like Tiger, as a golfer. I bet because of his media exposure and constant fan wave he's a dink. I really do. And that's unfortunate, cuz I don't think he's always been like that.

Man, I'm kind of conflicted about Tiger. I want so much to believe he's a cool, down to earth cat. But, sometimes his actions on the course, his choice of character to hang out with on-course (caddy), and other things make me feel he's got a bloated ego. For instance, I've been rereading "How I Play Golf" by el Tigre. And it's great. As a matter of fact, one sentence in it last week put my driver and woods back on the straight and narrow. But, pick up the book and read it. After almost every swing point, he breaks off into a "Kind of like the time I was on hole # at Wherever. Closing for the lead..." story. Then, on top of this, almost every other page is a "Tiger Moment" page, detailing his coolness under fire, his unstoppable technique, his will to win. It feels more like a Tiger Woods Resume with some great swing tips thrown in to keep you reading.

Takes one to know one. :D

I never said I hated Tiger. He just has a merry band that follows and worships him. That's fine. Just as T.O. has fans, just as Moss has fans, just as Ron Artest has fans. I'm not saying that Tiger is a bad boy or anything, I'm just saying his fanbase is more blanketing than the majority of golfers out there.

There is nothing wrong with it, it just gets tiresome. Sure, I may want to keep the game in the "dark ages". I'd rather keep it pure than have an "extreme to the max!!" attitude about it. Some people interpret this as a slap in the face for your competitors. What happened to winning with class, without the running fist pumps and the "take that, you effer!" attitude.

Take a page out of Vijay's book. The guy wins with class (on the course).

Just my thoughts.

You really can't limit the "GET IN THE HOLE" fans to Tiger though. I was almost sick watching the Bell Canadian last year and listening to the morons cheering Mike Weir on. They had to get the crowd to shut up several times when he was on the tee.

The good part is, this year, I'm gonna be one of them! Yeah baby!

On another note, I'm revising my 4some to include Duval, just so there's someone I have a chance at beating in there.
