Best Golf Ball EVER!!!
Just wondering what everyone's favorite golf ball of all time is. The ball that you would still play if you could get a hold of them. For me it would be the Strata Tour Professional 90. That is a great ball. I managed to find them used for $6 a dozen and am thinking about picking up about 20 dozen to last me a few years.

My favourites are Srixon AD-333's. The soft feel off the clubface and from the wallet are what swing it for me

I LOVED those balls but they were discontinued a couple of years ago to my shagrin. I've been using various brands ever since.

Probably the TopFlight Strata TL-Tours, great ball, so underrated, best cheap tour ball around, and are suprisingly very durable. Also Nike OnePlatinums.

C'mon. The best ball ever is clearly the gutta percha ball. Man, when I smack that thing with my mashie-niblick or my spoon, it just GOES. Of course, I may gain a few extra yards if I remove my tie when I swing, but I could never go out onto the course without the button down shirt, tie, knickers, and argyle socks. That's a how REAL men golf.

Sorry, but I was watching the Bobby Jones series on TGC and couldn't resist.

If i had to use one ball for the rest of the season, i would choose the Exception ball, by Pinnacle. This is my overall favourite ball, thanks to its softness, high spin rates and surprisingly long distance. A very close secong was the older One Black by Nike golf, this was a great ball in winds or wet conditions. So i would say Pinnacle Exception is my favourite ball.

I was a big fan of the TopFlite Tours from years ago. I also was into the Strata Tour Ultimates for awhile.
I'm on a Maxfli Blackmax kick these days, but I've been eyeballing the Bridgestone B330S.

I like the neew tiger woods balls they go at least probably 400 yards every time for the driver and spin back at least probably 20 yards for wedges and irons so i can spin them in the hole almost every time.

Plus if you putt with this ball youll make it every time, but thats only if you dont make the approach shots with irons because they are almost automatic with this ball.

BTW my lowest score ever with this ball is a 54 for 18 holes, campared to the 67's and 68's i shoot with other balls.

Sorry for the threadjack but is there any ball that does'nt spin on irons, but checks up around the greens? If anyone knows could they please tell me as I get too much spin on my 3, 4, and 5 iron shots. I know it's a tough problem to have but it's annoying me

1st of all if a ball doesn't spin it won't fly....a smooth ball even if struck by a driver will only go about 130 yards....2nd of all....you can't stop it if it doesn't spin....the spin is the balls brakes.....you might want to decrease your spin but not eliminate it...either go with a low spin ball or don't hit down so much on it....should take care of any problems....wish that were my problem....LOL

Older discontinued ball would be the Ta2 Spin by NIKE ! That Ball had DISK BRAKES ! Today my favorite is Titleist Prov 1X Longest ball out there with great spin !

Have to go with the Pro V1 here. It does everything exceptionally well.

I think that the HX Tour is a great ball as well. It doesn't have as good of feel as the Pro V1 IMO, but it's a great all-around ball.

My favorite ball ever
I loved the Titleist Professional 90. Great off the putter, just the right spin and the longest driving ball I've ever hit. I was really disappointed when it was discontinued. I still find them from time to time in used ball buckets and, even though you never know about a used ball's history, I buy everyone I can get.

Currently play Titleist NXT Tour. Good ball for the money. The sleeper ball for me is the Titleist SoLo. Cheap as all get out and long, but not great around the greens.

The first ball i fell in love with was the Titleist Professional (90 compression), i remember sifting through bins of balls while hanging out at the course in the summer when i was 8 or 9, searching for the professionals. Now I play Pro V1x when i get them from my team, and i never really buy balls, just get them for free and find them (i work as a caddie at a fairly posh place, lots of guys hit brand new proVs into the woods).

Maxfli A10 was my no. 1 ball
the Rev Tour, Callaway HX Tour, ProV1, and B330S all close 2nd
a surprisingly good ball was also the Wilson True Tour--got 2 dozen at Academy Sports for $9.95 ea., later wished i'd bought the whole lot.

Depends on your level. No need for high spin if high handicapper. Any distance ball will do.
As I have improved I went from titleist NXT. Ok spin but basically a distance ball.
to the pro v1x. As my scoring went down, my desire for a long but spin control into green necessatated a ball like the pro.
hate the price though. Wish I could find similar characteristics for cheaper but all experiments failed :nonod:

I think someone else mentioned it above as well but I love the Srixon AD-333. It is one of the longest and best feeling balls I've even hit. However, on those dry days when the green are as hard as a rock, I do miss the old Spalding Tour Edition golf balls from the late 80's. You could spin those suckers back 20 feet on ice!

I like the Bridgestone e5 and e6. I played e5 earlier in the year and I just played the e6 this past weekend. Both have nice soft feel, carry a long way. The e6 is the distance ball but, checks up well on full irons - I had a few shots into green from 160-180 and the ball stayed about 2 feet from the ball mark (pretty good for me on hitting a distance ball). The e5 is something else! Long, soft, and spins like crazy off the irons. The first non-tour ball (v1, Precept tour Premium, etc) that I could pitch, skip and stop. Must be the Urethane cover. Both great balls for $25/doz. and with coupons from a local sporting goods store, can be bought for around $15 to $20 / doz. Great balls for the buck!

All-time fav: Pinnacle Exception...just the right amount of spin for a higher hc'r, soft, very durable, and long.

Current play: Precept PWRdrive...also very durable and soft, a smidge longer, but noticably less spin than the Exception on full shots (surprisingly though, spins almost as much on partial wedges and short shots). Would still play the Exception except I was able to stock up on these through ebay for about $11 a dozen new. The Exception isn't that much better.

I played the Bridgestone e6 and I think it's a great buy at $25. I have a few dozen Ttitelist NXT left from my old job and I switched from them. The e6 is supposed to reduce side spin, this maybe psychosematic but I reduced about 10 yards of lateral movement from my drives. This also could be attributed to the fact that I moved the weights on my driver to counter my slice
Regardless It's a soft fiel ball that comes hot off the face.
Question for you how does it compare with the e5? Is the e5 longer?

I'll have to update my comments since getting a few rounds in with them....I think the Ben Hogan Hawk is better than the Rev Tour...better feel, not quite as much spin, but still plenty, and great control off the longer clubs. I can't wait until it warms up a bit more and they start compressing easier - even in the cold I have gotten some very respectable drives with them - great deal at their price.

For balls that are discontinued I will have to go with the Strata Tour Ace, one of my favorite balls ever. As for current, I'm a huge fan of Dunlop's Loco Pro... imagine the feel of a Pro V1X, but now for $20 at Sports Authority... I'm hopefully going to buy some to last me through the season

I have Pro V1 taste with Top Flite money. My rock of choice is the Dunlop Super LoCo. It has great distance and is decent around the green. A dozen balls costs about $15 at Walmart.

I was going to try some Srixon's but their commercial on TV turned me OFF.

I always seemed to play really well using the Wilson smart core balls. Loved those. Also, I found a Strata tour ace in the woods last year and played it until I lost it. Went and looked to buy some , but they stopped making them. Great ball. I guess now since I find so many Pro V1's I play those at times. But my ball of choice is the Wilson Tx4. Its everything a Pro V is IMO. NOt to mention at my neighborhood golf shop the Wilson golf rep got fired and they are selling all the Wilson staff merchandise at 50 percent off. So for 14 bucks a dozen ( which I bought a few of) I am set for this season wiht the TX4's. Oh yea, I really like the Maxfli Noodles, how can you not like a ball called a Noodle?

All time fav? Wow, it's been 40 years of golf so it would be hard to pick a fav but Titlest has been a standby throughout the years and the ProV1 and NXT Tours are pretty stiff competition for other brands. But I've been using the Nike Power Distance Super Soft as a cold weather ball and it's fabulous for the last year's model closeout price of $12.99/doz at just about everywhere. Long, soft and straight; feels good around the greens, but no real spin; putts crooked but who would notice with early season greens. I'll have to update this soon as I'll be doing a comparison of the Sxrion AD-333 and the Bridgestone e-5, perhaps they'll become my alltime fav.

I used to love the old Titleist professionals & balatas. I still have a bunch of Strata Tour Aces I got from ebay. The Maxfli Revolutions multi layer were good as well, found a few the other day in a used been for a buck. I also got a box of Triton Tours from a friend & thought they were good balls, I was suprised to see they're still around. http://tritongolf.com/products_balls_tour.asp

I recently picked up 4 dozen NXT tours off ebay, but they feel a bit hot off my putter face.

The Precept Lady Diamond is a great ball, cheap on Ebay, as are the Srixon AD-333's. The Top-Flight Gamer is also a good inexpensive pellet, as are the MC Lady, Snake Eyes SOF, Noodle and Pinnacle Soft Core. B330S is very good, HX Tour56 for those with cash.

I'm glad I perused this thread. Honestly, I never gave much thought concerning the differences in golf balls. I knew I preferred some over others...I.E. I like Top Flight , but dislike Titlest.

After this thread tweaked a ball awarness in my mind I took a closer look at golf ball tecnology and evaluated my capabilities (Estmated club speed etc.) I thought I should try one of two balls; Precept Laddie extreme and/or the Maxfli Noodle. I read several reviews by other golfers and settled on the Maxfli. I purchased a sleeve and played 18 holes. I had a great game! My perpetual fade was all but gone, I think I gained 10-15 yards too.

I'm getting back into the game after a 15 year absence from it. My distance has suffered with age, this Maxfli has helped with that. I have struggled to average 92-98 in my first 10 comeback games. Today I scored an 83! It could have been lower except for a couple of fat shots and some putting hiccups. I think this ball has a lot to do with my lower game today. Cool!

I love the Nike Platinums though technically not out of production. You can get the 2006 model from TWG for $25 right now (discontinued sale), I picked some up. Before that I played the Nike Tour Accuracy, once Nike stopped making them, I found them at Sams Club for $9/dz. Great balls, stocked up, and just ran out about a year ago, that is when I switched to the Platinums. Consumer Reports ranked them the top ball, and Golf Smith just happened to have them on sale the next time I was in the store.

I love the Platinums around the green, but I've found that they are considerably shorter off the tee and have a tendancy to balloon. Off the tee, my favorite ball is the Cally HX Tour. For irons, I like the Pro V1. All around I like the Bridgestone B330S, but it's not very durable so I play the Pro V1X as my compromise ball.

Platinums are designed for swing speeds exceeding 110mph and are shorter off the tee for average swing speeds. Golf Magazine had an article comparing all of the balls. Couldn't find it on their website - bad link. I imagine the advertisers don't care for quantifiable information. It was informative and surprisingly most of the balls were within 5 yards or so for the under 100 mph swing. The pro v's were not the longest and were actually just below average in distance. The Platinums for the same swing was about 15 yards shorter but on the 110mph swing was back in the pack with the rest of them for distance. It had more wedge spin than any of the balls.

I played the B330s again this weekend and they spin way too much for me. I do like the B330's and the Pro V1X's. I don't buy either because I'm too cheap. Value ball for me is the e5+.

Definitely a fan of the B330 and Nike Platinum. I do have a fast swing speed so they both fit it. Also, call me strange but i'm a big fan of the Wilson Zip. I've been impressed with its overall performance. It feels weird of the driver, but other than that, i have no complaints.

However...favorite of all time goes to the Ben Hogan Apex Tour Black ball. Can still be found for less than 10 bucks a dozen too.

A crazy old man explained to me that the Wilson Fifty is the finest ball on the market, so I'll go with that. His argument was that it has half the compression so it goes twice as far. He kept saying, "It's simple physics." I don't know how I got into that conversation, but it was a b!tch trying to get out. For the record, at no time did this old man touch my knee or anyplace else. I was also NOT juggling my nuts in any way.

For some reason I"ve fallen in love with the previous Cally tour balls, not the current "i" models.

If it wasn't for the piss-poor durability, the HX Tour would be my favorite ball. It's longer than Prov1x, spins more, and cuts right through the wind. Too bad my GRAIN FLOW FORGED BLADES slice them up.
