    Sports talk radio = frustrating
Listening to Dan Patrick and Jim Rome today, and all they had to say about Phil was that he won without having to deal with the "Tiger stare", meaning he basically won because he wasnt paired with Tiger in the final round. Unreal.

These same guys bashed Phil for years because he couldn't win the big one. Now he has 3, and what do they talk about? "It would have been different if he had to play with Tiger" "Pair him with Tiger and lets see if he can beat him" You know what I say? It's not Phil's fault that Tiger didn't play well enough to be in the final pairing. Tiger did what Phile used to do in the majors, he basically choked.

Phil deserves all the credit in the world, he played a hell of a final round, and beat the best in the world.

Nice job Phil!! (is that so hard to say Dan and Jim?)

Good post. Couldn't agree more. Jim Rome is a poor excuse of a sprot reporter. He's the Heraldo Rivera of sports. No Class. No Sense. No Respect. You have to give props to Phil for winning two in a row and one in each of the last three years....so far! Arguably the most dominant player in the world RIGHT NOW. Three more majors to go. Let's see how this pays out.

    thanks!
Yeah Jim Rome is pathetic. I used to like Dan patrick, but he's such a hypocrite.

Phil is going to win another major this year, cant wait to hear what they say then.

I think both Rome and D.P. probably were making the point that things may have been different it Phil's closest competitor (aka his playing partner) was a little more competitive. Do you really think Phil would of played the same if his good buddy, his fist knock pal, his "hey, great birdie, here's a pat on the back!" friend, the one and only Freddie Boom-Boom wasn't his playing partner? I doubt it.

I found the lack of competion between those two yesterday to be highly irregular. The birdies followed by the knuckle knocks and pats on the back were kinda disgusting to me. Call me what you will, I prefer Tiger's alpha-male ice grill. Especially during the final round of a major championship.

Oh so now whenever someone wins a golf tournament we have to look at who he was paired with in the final group before giving him any credit? Gimme a break.

Look at last Tiger's last Masters win, he beat Chris Dimarco. Not taking anything away from Chris, but Tiger certainly wasnt paired with a Phile or a Ernie or a Vijay.

I'm so sick of hearing about the "tiger stare" and how intimidating he is.

be sick of it all you want. But its a fact. He does change the way his playing partners play on the final day.

I give Phil credit though..he did what he had to, and won the tournament. It isn't his fault he was the most consistant player...and that Tiger couldn't put any putts away....

GOod win Phil..even if I don't like you.

i agree, it is a fact, but i'm still sick of it!!!

I applaud you for congratulating Phil on his win when you dont like him, I wish others could do the same.

Tiger looked like the old Phil on Sunday, missing the big putts.

I could not agree more. I don't mean to pile on, but everything I watched / listened to yesterday was the same. I mean when Tiger is in front he is the best front runner in the game - all he does is hit fairways and greens - he avoids bogeys and makes all his 6 footers - hmmm, looked allot liked Phil Sunday. He went out and played a perfect round on a difficult course where bogeys (or more ) are the norm - with tons of big names on the board right behind him. Like you all have mentioned now we have to start judging his wins by who is good enough to be in the final pairing with him. Rome was always famous the past couple years for his hefty comments, mix in a salad, and what a choke, but he would always cover his a*s by saying quick he will win one someday - now he is quick to say - we all knew he would win a bunch - just let me tell you the quality of his win - GO LEFTY!!!

Oh please! Like playing GOLF with anyone is intimidating? Try lining up over a 300lb guard and being double teamed while a 250 lbs fullback is lowering his head to run through you. That what I remember as being a daunting task.

As for your disdain of commaradery while playing a major, I guess you forgot when Tiger and Jose Maria congratulated each other for making scrambling birdies on the same hole a few years ago? What about Tiger giving Daly a low five at Harding park last year when HE stood and waited just to watch Daly drive that green? I don't think JD was intimidated by Tiger into missing a four footer in extra holes. If that's the case then Phil must've really intilidated Freddy on Sunday.

nice post. I thought it was nice to see Phil and Freddy having a great time playing that final round at the masters.

If people would rather see Tiger drop his club or mouth some swear words after a bad shot, then so be it.

Bunch of Tiger haters out there. Count how many majors each of them have and tell me who it the MAN!

Phil is just getting a taste of what it's like to be on top. It's Tigers world. Phil has a long way to go before he is considered the best golfer.

In the "real world", according to Murphy's Laws:

    Those who can, do.
    Those who can't, teach.
    Those who can't teach, administrate.

Those who can't, get jobs as sportscasters and radio talk show hosts.

Where in this thread did anyone call Phil the best golfer?

All I'm asking is that he gets some respect for winning his 3rd major, instead of hearing how it wasnt really that big of a win because he didnt beat Tigger head to head.

Props to Phil for not choking anymore like he used to. Great win at the Masters. He has turned the corner and will be stiff competition for Tiger. I believe however that Tiger will turn it up a notch and win 2 of the next 3 majors.
    He will come back strong.

How anyone can possibly be a fan of "Fake Phil" is just a mystery to me. You guys do know this man is an absolute first-class jerk, right? How does that fake goofy smile not just make you want to punch him in the face?

First, my comment wasn't about Tiger. So your feelings toward him are irrelevant to my question.

Hahaha - yes, first-hand accounts from people close to tour are probably not reliable. After all, you've seen him smile for the camera and hug his kids on TV. Your analysis is probably much better. hahahaha. GO PHIL!!!! Gimme one of those mini fist-pumps!!!!!!

I wonder what the Phil haters will say when Phil and Tiger are paired on a Sunday in a major and Phil wins. "That wasnt really a win, Phil sholdn't be smiling while playing with Tiger."

Haha - you may not want to hold your breath on that one, since it may well never happen. I am no fan of Tiger, but if they went head to head on Sunday at a major, I would bet my house on Tiger. In addition to being fat, your boy is mentally not even on the same planet as Tiger Woods. BUT HE IS ONE HELL OF A MINI FIST-PUMPER!!!!!! GO PHIL!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!

Phil is a Jerk...it's pretty well documented. I love the guys game....but come on, its pretty well know that the guy is "fake".

Tiger is competitve on the grass...but as I have close friends who have known him, he's a regular guy really.

I ove Phil's game...come on anyone who says he isn't in the top tier, maybe top 5 in the world is stupid...but as a person it certainly appears he's pretty stereotypical "golf guy".

A good friend's dad works the locker room at Sherwood C.C.(Thousand Oaks, CA) and tells us that everytime he has incountered Tiger he has been all "pleases", "thank yous", and "yes sirs". Also he refuses to allow my friend's dad to call him sir, because of the respect factor with the age differences. And this is all to a 65 year old guy who knows nothing about golf and has less in total assets than what's in Tiger's locker. Sounds like a solid guy to me.

Phil seems kind of "ph"ony to me. (But, shoot, people probably say that about me!)
Like him or not Phil is w/o a doubt number 2 in the world right now.

exactly...I used to live in cypress California..we have very good friends still there who went to school with Tiger...and when he was at Stanford they palyed golf with him -- obviously now he's totally removed from them and probably a dim recollection, but they said about the same thing. The father said he had to ask Tiger to stop calling him Sir...

Never known anyone to know Phil, but so many reports about the guy can't be wrong...

But still, dude plays a mean game of golf, no denying that.
