Has anyone ever heard of XR2 irons?
I bought a set of XR2 irons off of Ebay and would like to know if anyone remembers these irons from Mizuno.

Interesting.....
I did a quick Google search on XR 2 irons, and the two links that came up were an e-bay ad and an ad on a used golf club site, both taken out by the same seller. I've never heard of them. I'd consider them suspect until proven otherwise.

Haven't got them in yet. I've contacted Mizuno but I'm not expecting a quick reply about a set of irons that are really old. The picture of the auction shows a Miznuo engraving with the cavity back that has XR2 in the cavity but it could easily be a representative photo. I bought it from Ebay off of a seller with only about 100 transactions and a good rating. Thanks for your help

They look like a legit set of cast mizunos from the late 80's early nineties. Mizuno used to make lots of sets at lower price levels it was the equivalent of Wilson today offering sets at all price points. Mizuno also produce products for the Japanese and European markets it could be an imported set. I Goggled around and found this http://groups.google.com/group/rec.sport.golf/tree/browse_frm/month/1992-10/4a27b316787e3eb1?rnum=101&_done=%2Fgroup%2Frec.sport.golf%2Fbrowse_frm%2Fmonth%2F1992-10%3F
An old golf forum where an XR2 user is discussing the new Ping Zings so the XR2's must have come out before 1992.

XR-2's were my first set of irons - loved them
My very first set of good irons were Mizuno XR-2's. TO this day I have never hit better shots or longer shots than I did when I had them. If I still had them today I'd be playing them. They were not oversized, they were original sized cast iron clubs. I don;t remember if they were blades or cavity backs though. If you have a set of would love to see a closeup picture of the back of the irons. You can send it to Sgraff.ny@gmail.com.

To follow up, I bought a set off Ebay for about 40 dollars. The guy never delivered them and after 60 days and quite a few calls I had to give him a negative feedback. The guy just moved from somewhere in New England to Pennsylvania I think. He refunded my money and said that one of the clubs was damaged. I felt bad about giving him a neg bc he had a 100% pos with around 200 trans and the Ebay pic showed they were CB's. He was an honest guy but not a great seller.

I have a set of mizuno XR2 clubs that I use every time I play Golf..These clubs have treated me so good I have never though about replacing them.I purchaced the clubs in 1985 and the set came with a beautiful set of real wood woods..I have since retired the woods and they are now racked on the rec.rm. wall...The irons and the woods are made in the USA. The irons feature stainless steel heads with cavity backs. The shaft is of the step design with Grip Rite grips..I play a lot of Golf during the summer months and have used these irons for 23 years. I will be using them untill they plant me..The grips have never been replaced and the heads are in great shape..What I like about these clubs is the balance..The head weight is right on the money for my swing speed..The metal shaft has just enough flex and all the clubs are true to their loft and distance...I can't tell you how many buckets I hit to get the distance right for each club...

I had bought my set of Mizuno XR2's in the early 80's also.
They are great clubs (replaced my grips 4 the first time this year) and have been using them up to this day! The only problem is that the last time I was out I LOST my 7 iron.
I tried to find a replacement but to no avail. So, I was looking for another set of cast iron (Stainless steel clubs) They last forever literally! The forged clubs chip and rust (Not for me!)
I decided to get a set of MX 19's I found on eBay. 4-GW for $255 used Like New!
These clubs have a much larger club face and easy to hit! Maybe my lost club has been a blessing in disguise? I have only done a little chipping with them in the back yard but I have a very good feeling about them!
I'll post my experience with them after my first day out.

P.S. Anybody have an XR2 7 Iron they want to sell? I'd like to keep them as an exra set for friends who need a set who are visiting.

Matou,
I will let you know if I find a 7 for you..Check with the cart guys and club pros for recovered clubs..They try to get them back to the original owners but sometimes they are not claimed and end up in bags they rent to out of towners..
I am going to have my clubs regripped and like the Winn padded grips..They feel good in my big hands..What grips did you use on your clubs at time of replacement..Thanks in advance for the info....Tom

XR2 clubs
I bought a set of XR2 irons off of Ebay and would like to know if anyone remembers these irons from Mizuno.
A great set of clubs..Hang on to them..Once you get use to them, you will like them..Do not get caught up in the old, latest and greatest game, you will become golf poor..Get use to the clubs..The irons are user friendly..The set came with (wood) woods..You will need to replace them with something more modern to keep up with other players..
Good Luck.....
