Alright guys todays discusion-what flex shafts do you use? Are you a low hcp or macho guy and use stiff, or are you an old beat up 12 hcp (football, baseball-5' 5" thought I was 6' 5") smoothie like me and use reg shafts? I've seen where (can't remember who) a few pro's use reg shafts-Nicklaus had reg in his pitching wedge. How about you? And, do you drink beer during-after golf? Have a good one.....and lets hope tiger wood keeps hacking them up!

I've tried both regular (R300) and stiff (S300) and to be honest I would be happy using either. I probably get a little more distance out of the regular shaft. I've always like the TT DG shafts but demoed the MP-63's with Project X 5.5 and really liked the feel of that shaft too. I'm sure 5.0 or 5.5 would be great.

I ALWAYS drink beer AFTER golf but seldom during. If it is some sort of charity event and the cart girl is bringing beers around and others are drinking I'll have a quiet one to be social but in general I prefer not to drink during a round of golf.

I can also hit both stiff and reg, but truth to tell I think the regs are probably more consistently sweet. The Rifle 5.0s felt like butter. I think that maybe a good way to go with shafts is to find the stiffest shaft you can handle, then drop back one flex from there. I've got i the habit the last couple of weeks of having a beer before the game (it's been hot and there has been a long wait to tee off) and usually have one after the round, but never during a round. As I drive I never have more than one after a game.

Rifle 5.0 flighted has become my favorite shaft. Just don't go at them too hard into the wind as they have a tendancy to balloon.

I agree with this. When I'm hitting my irons I am trying to put a smooth swing on the shot for accuracy and control, I'm not trying to rip it for extra distance like you are with say a driver.

I think the ones I'm getting aren't flighted, so the longer clubs won't balloon as much, though the shorter irons will probably go a little higher than the flighted. I've never been a Rifle fan, but I've only ever hit them in 6.0. I think the 5.0 will become a favourite of mine pretty quickly.

I agree with this. With irons you get better results and actually more distance by smooting it, but wit the driver I fnd ripping it harder but still in control improves distance and accuracy. If you go easy on the driver you have more trouble squaring the face at imapct IMO.

No! If you did this the ball will bounce back at a higher angle but will be spinning backwards!! it is a fact that the backspin is a consequence of the angle.

The ball will spin up the angle of the wall (or club), creating backspin. It seems pretty easy to follow for us normal folk. I'm sure FD will come around in another week or so.

I think the Dynamic Golf R300 shaft is the best feeling out there and the very best combination for forged irons. I remember buying a set of brand new Mizuno MS-9 irons back in 1997 with DG R300 shafts. I have never hit anything since that has felt as good. Pure butter. Of course, being the ho I am, I sold them.

Do not forget that a thrown ball is not straight line, it is a prabollic trajectory.

I prefer the stiffest you can control. I'd like to know that if I need to step on one, the shaft will be able to keep up with me.

The only reason pros prefer lower flexes in their wedges is for the added softer feel, especially touch shots.

I had a set of Palmer Standards with S300's and they felt great for a couple of years. The 6 iron shaft snapped off at the hosel when I was hitting it at the range and I had the guy put an R300 in it just to experiment. It felt like lifeless crap. Every iron I hit since with the R300 has felt dead. Can't explain it. My current irons, MP 14's, came with stock S300's and I reshafted them with Dynalight Gold SL S300's. These shafts are the best I've ever felt in a forged blade or any other iron head. I put a Dynamic Gold SL R300 in my Cobra 20* hybrid head after pulling the Jeckyl & Hyde Aldila HL and it is a great feeling shaft as well. I was going to try the DG SL R300's in my FG 17's but when I tried to pull the PW shaft out, I realized that Wilson must have employed cretinous mongoloid eastern European sado-masochists to install the shafts. The guy wants $22 each to drill out the old shafts. Hell.

Early picks for Masters-greatest show on earth ('86 was best), who are YOU picking. Are you a tigger dreamer nutt-hugger or are you a realist? A Euro (Kaymer) maybe? They've been proving alot lately. Myself, watch for Dustin Johnson-he has the game to win at Augusta and I don't know if he'll do it this year but he will win there before he's done. ALSO...Freddie Couple could still win this thing, but Phil has to be the favorite.

I ahte to say it but there is a good chance of a Moobs two peat this year. He has that course down and could dominate there over the next 5-10 years. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him give Jack's 6 green jackets a shake before he's done. I don't think Tiger has the game at the moment to win there. Phil has worked out how to play there, and has more talent than anyone else out there bar the old Tiger. Phil only has to be somewhere near the lead on Sunday to win it.

Playoff with Matt Kucher, Rory Sabatini and Ryan Moore. Moore wins but his tie clashes with the Green Jacket and the ghost of Hootie (anyone realize that Darius Rucker is Hootie Johnson's illegitimate son--hence the name of the band) emerges from the pond to the left of 16 and rips it off Ryan's neck just as Phil is slipping it on. 185 blue-hairs choke on their $1.85 cheese-and-pimento sandwiches and the Augusta EMTs are stretched too thin and the crowd is too large to save more than 3 of them. The upshot will be an emergency session of the players' association, the PGA and a Federal Mediator who agree to forbide all professional golfers from wearing ties in any PGA, USGA, LPGA or R&A sanctioned event.

ALSO....why do people STILL root for woods? Is it because (CONTROVERSIAL) he brought more blacks to the game? And (MORE CONTROVERSIAL) is that why there was comments/trashing (remember 'somebody' yelling for Vijay to hit it in the water while he was close to tigger-tigger was already finished) screamed from wood fans that had never ever been heard before during PGA tourneys? Alot of people think/dream that he saved the game like Arnie did, but I beg to differ-ARNIE (and his fans) HAD CLASS AND RESPECT FOR THE GAME.

Whatever the case may be, the handwriting's clearly on the wall, HH. The unions are done, it won't be long before they're completely gone. Particularly, government employee unions.

I'm concerned for you as a government employee, but there's just no way to stop this, other than to get a private sector job. Government jobs could very well go the way of immigrant and/or foreign labor.

It will be interesting to see this play out as it pits two liberal segments against one another, immigration vs. unions. Although it's obvious unions don't have much longer.

Most of the past and current crop certainly don't contradict this. I was hoping Trump was serious about a run. Seems he was just joshing. If that is happening in your country that is a real cause for concern. Over the years governemnt employees have been at the forefront of job reform, as governemnts trying to bring in reforms have to show they are serious by doing it to their own employees first. Over the last 100 or so years that has been a good thing, as the rise in unions and workers rights has meant that any reform has usually been a good one for the workers, and government workers get it first. If your country is going that way I don't hink getting a private sector job will be the answer, unless you have the skills and/or capital to work for yourself. If you are an (non highly skilled professional) employee in the private sector you are always worse off than being an employee of the governement. As a governemnt employee I hope we don't go down that path. It almost happened hear about 5 years ago but Howard was voted out on the strength of his Industrial Realtions policy. The problem though is that union membership is no longer compulsory, and is probably less than 50% across the board, so the unions don't have the clout they once had, and naive people think they don't have to be in a union, not realising that all the hard fought gains over the last hundred years can be wiped out with an act of parlaiment. And the only thing stopping unscrupulous employers screwing the workers is government regulations, not the goodness of their black hearts. If you are right Zo, then your country (and most likely our country as we follow you blondly) is heading down the road to the second or third world. If people think the disrtibution of wealth is unfair now, they should cast their minds back a couple of hundred years when there really was a rich/poor divide. Or look at countries like India and China.

These Repub lovers on this board don't realise how bad theior lives would be if they got what they wished for. They would be the first to jump up and down if their employer told them to take a pay cut and give up all their conditions, or look for another job. I keep trying to tell them that if it weren't for the leftist revolution, most people on this board wouldn't have got the education and chances in life to be able to spend time on an internet discussion board. It's slective memory on their part. They take all the good things the left has provided them (education, health, workers rights, increased living standards) for granted, and selectively criticise the things about the left they don't like. I don't hear too many of them volunteering to give up their public holidays, or their double time on weekends, or their childrens free education. If the extreme right had their way, workers rights would be completely eroded and we'd go back to the bad old days of a working poor class, and children working in coal mines. As I've said before, people should look at India to see how true capitalism works. And funnily enough, the right wingers would be the first to scream blue murder about Indian call centres 'stealing' US jobs.

Personally, I can see good and bad things about both systems of government. I think you need a balance of left and right ideologies to get a fairer system for everyone.

I am under no illusions that on a US scale I would be a conservative, and possibly Republican voter. As I said, it's a delicate balance. You need sufficient leftist policies to allow hard workers to be rewarded and not screwed by the capitalist a-holes. But you also need enough lattitude for there to be an incentive to go out and start your own business without lazy, manipulative workers being able to hold you over a barrel. Wha you certainly don't want is a country where the left has got such a hld that we feel the need to roll out the welcome mat for the second and third world's unwanted. I can say form experieince that generosity to third world parasites can ruin it for the hard workers who built the country. We are being played like fiddles by the second and third world. They are sending all their trash our way under the guise of 'assylum'. That is the biggest crock of shittgoing. For some reason, from countries where females are the most abused, we seem to be getting boat loads of young males, who start defrauding the welfare system as soon as they step foot here. If that attitude makes me a right wing cracker, sign me up and give me my white hood.

Well, the pendulum swings. The public employee unions were able to negotiate wages and benefits in many cases beyond their private counterparts, principally because they constitute voting blocks politicians felt compelled to placate. Now the US economy has severe long and short term problems and states are generally broke. Federal and state governments are under severe pressure to reduce spending.

The forgoing puts the unions in a precarious position trying to defend better than private sector compensation in the face of eroding public support. This imbalance may push the pendulum in the reverse direction and crush many unions, particularly public ones, for a long time to come.

Until I read the STFU newbie I thought you were talking to me. Thefirst line describes me and all my government employee co-workers to a tee. I work in an area that could transfer to the private sector, but there is no doubt that the vast majority of public sector employees are institutionilised drones who would be unemployable in the private sector. And that's just the workers. You have no idea how incompetent management is in the public sector. They get paid incrdibly high amounts of money for their level of skills, qualifications and experience. Promotion past middle management is purely political, and depends on sponsors and party connections, not ability. As you are underwritten by the taxpayer, it doesn't really matter how badly you waste money, they just ask for more taxpayer money to cover your fuk ups. At the moment we are looking like a change of government, so all the upper management on the big bucks are scurrying like cockroaches for the skirting boards trying to shore up their position trying to hang on to their jobs. But it won't happen. The new government will anounce 'enquiries' into poor performance of governenment departments. The findings will be scathing of upper management i.e. the current party members, and they will be given golden handshakes and replaced by new managers i.e. the incoming party members and connections. The best thing for the incoming government is that they can do it all transparently because the current buffoons runing the public service are so incompetent a real independent enuiry will find plenty of reasons for an overhaul.

Anyway, that ends toda's edification on the innerworkings of the NSW public service. I'm sure the US federal and state public services are much the same.

I'm 53 and I also grew up on a farm. Did a little college-until I got cut from the baseball team (at least I'm honest), and then went to work. That was 33 years ago, so actually I've been a gov't employee for around 33 years. I've always put out my best effort at work and will unless I feel things are being wrongly taken from me-but thats a whole different story because then I'd just retire. I've been at my current job for 29 1/2 years, have raised 2 daughters and its just my wife and I at home. Thats me, I've always told people what I thought (why hold it in and have ulcers) and always will. Gonna hold it against me for being honest? If so, I guess thats just the way it goes. Hope your day gets better. BTW, I'm on here because my gov't job allows me Fridays off.

Best thing to do is do your practicing on the range and depend on muscle memory when you get out to the course. Worst thing to do is step over the ball and start thinking-trust yourself and your swing that you've practiced on. Hit'em straight!

NEXT SUBJECT-who's gonna finish better in The Masters-everybody's favorite Fred Couples or punk-a$$ tiger wood? My money is on Freddie to be better than the cheater-class usually prevails. In the past when it was tiger wood against the field, I rooted for the field-I appreciate people who respect the game. Your thoughts?
PS-Don't pull the race card, I DO root for Vijay..........

Seems like you might be a repub stooge as much as you take this personal. At least you've learned something on here and took my advice on speaking your opinion instead of getting ulcers. Glad to help you out there, sonny! Also, your apologies will be accepted in advance...........SMD

I see you're too much an idiot (or raised wrong with no respect) to follow my orders in asking for permission to comment on my blog. Like I said, I just despise 'people' that are like repubs-phuk everything up in their quest to get their selfish, SOB ways and then criticize and LIE when someone else tries to fix the mess they left behind. I am here to inform people that you are a 'services rendered' repub stooge..in other words a follower, an idiot, and a liar if you support these imbeciles. Take a hike child, you've been exposed.
Zo, I find it disturbing how nice you have been to the Huskydude. When you are asked at the corner store who the young man staying with you is.....do you answer " ah, ah its, its my my Nephew..... right nephew?" ......Just wondering. I do not think he is chinese and has not mentioned any wedding plans so I may be way off base. if I am, please forgive me in advance.
C'mon boy, give it a rest! Don't be so disturbed at what Zo posts, I really don't think he shares the same $exu@l preferences that you do. Have you ever been asked at the corner store if the young man standing next to you is your.........'jet'?

Let's see...apparently tiger wood didn't get his tee shot on the 2nd hole past the womens tee yesterday. Since he's tough enough to spit on the greens, is/was he man enough to do what you're supposed to when you don't get it past the girlie tees? Can't have it both ways tough guy..........

Did he have to do like we have to do whenever that happens -- drop his pants and prove he is a man?

Red a deal where he hit about 180 yds 2 times, once with 3 wood, the oter with (I believe) a hybrid. When he hit the 3 wood he had to hit another 270 to get close to the green. Hell, he's playing just like me!

I thought that was a well-known requirement of not getting by the girlie tees. Maybe 'stevie' did it for him?

'stevie' is gay, thats what thats about. One thing I harbour ill feelings towards is apologists, nutt-huggers, kinda like tiger wood fans-where have they all gone? You watch a tourney any more and where did all the morons shouting 'get in the hole' go? Are these real fans or band wagonners? Show your stripes wood fans! Or just COMPLETELY go away...forever. And we neevr heard 'get in the water' ever shouted before tiger wood was on tour either. Go away tiger wood and take your 'fans' with you, PGA was here before you and will be here after you. Now if we could clone Arnold, Jack, Freddie we would have it great, wouldn't we?

When you go pay, what time do you usually tee off? We usually try to get off by 8:00, otherwise the round will go from 3-3 1/2 hrs to 5 hrs. How 'bout you? Beers in clubhouse start kinda early that way but oh well...........

You are probably too young to remember when Jack was the up-and-comer challenging "The King". There were plenty of "Get in the water."'s muttered in galleries at every tournament since Jack was the most immediate threat to Arnie, the hero. They were not shouted because fans in the old days knew how to behave. The worst aspects of the advent of Tiger Woods are the gallery shouters and all the yo's coming to the game who, without the Tiger effect, would have remained on tennis and basketball courts. Golf never needed diversity and it does not need it now. Of course every time Hale Irwin would tee it up on TV, I would scream "Go out of bounds". When the bastard won at Pebble Beach years ago, he was leading by maybe a shot at 18 and, when he was about to hit his driver off the tee, I screamed "snap hook it into the ocean" and damned if he didn't do just that. But the f*cking ball bounced off a rock and back onto the fairway. He made par. I was p@ssed.

I remember Irwin bouncing that tee shot off the rocks up into the farway too. Why don't you like him? I'm not a fan either way of him, why your feelings-just curious? And no, I don't go back far enough for the start of the Jack-Arne rivalry. As far as tiger, golf doesn't need the bush league catcalls from the garbage he dragged to the Tour. Back to the tennis and basketball courts! Hit'em straight, Mongrel!

TOPIC-are any of you watching the NCAA basketball tourney? Why is the west coast/Pac Ten always underrated and disrespected? Why was it such a huge upset when Arizona blew Duke out? Why did Auburn football (sec in general) get away with their cheating QB getting to play against Oregon? look at what the NCAA did to USC because of Regge Bush-the sec gets away with that crap all the time-and its known, the Auburn joke proves it. There's a different set of rules for the east and west coast-seems the east coast NCAA honks are simply jealous when west coast is proven better-they had to cheat for Auburn so they could compete aginst Oregon. What would have been done if that was Oregon's QB? Myself, I grew up in Oregon and am tired of the arrogant east coast bias.
