I was watching TGC the other day and a commercial came on for Charles Shwab. You know the one where the cartoon people tell you it;s time to get serious about investing. The first company I thought of was Barclay's,and why not. They are a major global financial services provider. But who do I want them to invest my money in? How about KMPG --they are a global company operating in 145 countries with 123,000 pros working for them.I know I need a new FT-5 driver and a Callaway 68 degree wedge, but they will have to wait.So I looked at my Rolex and said the time to do all this is now! Off I went to talk to my Barclay's advisor, but not before I gassed up at the local Exxon.I have to thank Phil, his corperate relationships have enriched my life.Phil you've done so much for us,I think you and Amy should take a trip. How about going to the Crowne Plaza for a gettaway, the one that has the two bathtubs overlooking the ocean. And don't forget about the kids, maybe you could get them Sport Scopes,so they don't miss a minute of the action before they run on the green after your next victory. In closing i would like to say I look forward to PM's next instruction article in Golf Digest.

I don't know about Phil he does seem like a nice guy on camera but I have heard some nasty things about his wife! Phil's one of the few guys I've never met before, Tiger is an all out dick on the golf course but I expected that I still love him! Adam Scott is a douche too. Ernie and Sergio are two of the nicest guys I've ever met...I had 30 minute conversation with Ernie on the driving range.
-
I sometimes feel bad for his misfortunes, but at the same time I don't, because they are all his fault besides Payne draining that putt to beat him. If he'd get his head out of his *** with this five wedge/no driver crap, maybe he'd win. Prime example of his stupidity: taking a 9 on the 13th at Torrey in the third round of the US

There is no way Ernie would have a 30 minute conversation with you unless it was part of the Make a Wish Foundation.

I took the liberty of editing your response to reflect the facts only, minus the BS you had put in there. The rest of your post was pure fantasy.

I also feel bad for his misfortunes. You know, being paid millions of dollars to play golf for a living etc. I also feel bad for Hugh Hefner's misfortunes.

Yeah me too. Fancy shagging all those blonde bimbo's and then being expected to have a conversation with them? If only they were mute!

Lol u probably really think im 9 years old....sarcasm is all....Saying that you had a 30 minute talk with Ernie Els is about as likely as me being the next Tiger Woods. Why would he waste 30 minutes of his warm up talking to some rook? Did you discuss whether HiBore Hybrids are for u? What about why errbody on GR that plays Mizuno Irons is gay? Maybe he would know?
GFF
get lost.....

Met Phil Mickeltits at The Olympic Club
If memory serves me correctly, I followed the prick around the course for several holes, a fan at the time. I finally got close enough to ask for an autograph, between holes he had a long walk to the next adn was freely signing for people. I asked him to sign a Titleist ball adn handed him the ball and Sharpie pen. He looks at me and in teh most snide manner ever, he says, "I don't do balls". Vijay signed, Johnny Miller signed, and Payne Stewart signed also. Mr. tits felt he was too good to sign a ball. *******. I now root for his failure in each game he plays against anyone. That ******* was rude and his manners seem to be getting som elight now by an honest person who happens to caddie.

Feel Sorry for Phil
Phil needs some compassion, as he has lost everything. He grew up with a dream of being the best golfer in the world and winning everything. He can't seem to ever win a major. Along comes a kid who without a doubt will be the greatest golfer in history and has this mantle placed on him by the Bear. This guy arrives in Phil's era and he will go down in history as a footnote. He gets a bit part in Tin Cup with Costner, and actually believes the hype. He plays like the movie and never gets the same ending. He then acts live the David Simms the jerk. It fits easier than winning. This looks like a soap opera. Is Phil a Jerk? Is he arrogant? Is he a P***k? Is he sincere? Non of us know, but I do know one thing.
Nobody smiles and tips the bill of his hat to the camera and gallery after taking a 9 on a par 3. There are only five players I enjoyed watching. Arnie the working mans champion. Fred Couples a great guy and I want his swing. The Shark's game in his prime. Tiger because you always seem to have drama and incredible shots. Phil to see him ask Bones for another ball. " I can make this shot". Tiger is in Phils head so bad he might as well call Monty for Pycho consultations.
P.S. Hope Freddy wins Tiger Sherwood event.
-
I was surprised by Phil's response to Steve Williams candid remarks. Phils man Bones is obviously a great looper, but I think Phil's dissing of Steve as a caddie lacked conviction and credibility. And I'm sure Stevie would reciprocate Phil's remarks, and say that he's very happy with Bones being on the prick's bag and he'll stay exactly where he is thanks very much.

In light of all the love for Phil the last couple of days, I thought it would be a good idea to see what we used to think of Phil (thanks to Kiwi for posting a link to this thread on another thread).
This is an all time bona fide GR classic and well worth reading if you weren't around at the time. It even has the obligatory Fred post to go with the 100 plus posts. After reading this I've decided that I will go back to hating Phil.

I used to hate Phil, but he looks like a man now.
Also he is white, and I don't like mutts like Teegro... Asian and Black and other stuff in Eldrick?
Eldrick is a circus clown trained for his masters.
I am liking Phil the honky, right now...
When this thread first started, I hated Phil; my opinions have changed.

NAH
What is it with hating Moobs. He plays exciting golf and appears to be a nice family man. His shot at 13 on Sunday deserved our respect (i wanted Westwood to win) and i found myself rooting for him to win.
Moobs is my new golfing hero and a such replaces big JD

Gotta agree with Edgey.
That shot on 13 was the stuff of legend and will be seen for years to come on highlight reels.

This thread just brought back memories, I was just trying to emphasise how great this thread was is all. In all honesty I won't be able to hate Phil from now on. I'm not sold that he isn't a fake, but his golf is certainly the real deal. He actually reminds alot of the Shark on the course. They are both super agrssive players who roll the dice at every opportuity and think there is no shot they can't play. They are both huge gallery favourites too, amongst the most exciting players to watch ever, and from what I hear Greg was a bit manufactured regarding his off course image. The difference between them is that Phil has managed to break through and win the elusive Masters that eluded Norman and dogged him his whole career. Both of them got snake bit too many times to count, but Phil had the talent to get past it. Phil made that Masters on Sunday, and is a more exciting golfer than Tiger to watch. If Tiger had been in his position, he would have played it safe when he hit the lead and coasted home to win by a shot, but Phil kept attacking and brought it home in style with a birdie on the last.
But Edgey, you must admit this thread has some of the greates posts in GR history.
P.S. Just because I now like Phil and hope he wins more majors doesn't mean I won't be laughing my arse off next time he chokes one away. That stunned mullet look he get's when he has a brain explosion late on Sundays to throw away a major is still priceless, much better than his cheesy grin when winning.

This is for you, NAH
Question: What's an Australian kiss?
Answer: The same thing as a French kiss, only down under.

I missed most of the coverage as I was tied up with work but I snuck out and saw that amazing shot on 13. Phil missed the Eagle putt (which surprised me) but made the birdie and just a few moments later I saw Tiger not only miss a makeable birdie putt but he then three jacked for a bogie. At that point it was obvious Tiger was out of contention and it was Mickelsons to lose. Westwood played real solid golf for second and was right on Phil's tail if he faltered but Phil closed it out in style.
Like others I found myself rooting for Mickelson and rooting against Tiger. I'm looking forward to seeing Tiger play again outside the protective bubble wrap of Augusta when the fans can really stick it to him. Then we'll see how the 'new' Tiger reacts.

I agree with everything said here. I may have cheered for Phil to win last weekend, but it was more because it was a slap in the face to Kitty Woods. You know that Kitty had to have hated the fact that Phil won and was getting all the attention. Most all of these professional golfers are spoiled-arse snobs that only flash the smiles in front of galleries and cameras. So, I can appreciate the rivalry between Kitty and Moobs, but neither one will be getting a lot of cheers from me. Moobs won the Masters and pissed in Kitty's face and gave me a good laugh. Now, Moobs can go eat shite and choke on it.
The only golfers on tour right now that don't seem to give a shite about galleries and flashing smiles are Charley Hoffman and Boo Weekley. Hoffman just wants to make money and eat cheeseburgers. Boo just wants to make a little money and go fishing and hunting. Isn't that pretty much the right attitude? Just play golf because it's fun and if you can make some money doing it then that's all the better. Screw the public image . . . . .

That second shot off the pine straw belongs on the all-time list, particularly in that situation. I agree with you. So he's a little awkward. We make room for Larry.

As good as the golf was at the Masters, for me there was just that little something missing that stopped it feeling like a true major. No Boo, no Charley, no JD an no Bubba in the field equals no major for mine.
