By the photo in another thread, Pottsy has donned mufti garb mixing stripes and checks. His apparel possesses serious match play mojo and I predict he will acquite himself well.

Did you subscribe to the thread and get an e-mail? In any event, welcome back! Some here hunger for the old days and the old posters as some of the stories have been passed down.

For those who are unaware, GisG hasn't posted since 2006.

Apparently the best strategy is to drop out at around the 6th hole thereby completely confusing your opponents.

Quitting on the 6th hole is definitely a rookie move. Everyone knows you're supposed to quit on the 7th hole.

WOW, this is cool! It's just like the ancient Greek gods who would occasionally come down to earth and pilfer a young maiden, make a demi-god, and then disappear again for several years.

    So, are you going to pilfer a young maiden now? . . . . . . . . . . . Can we watch?

Was surfing the net and came across this and just had to bump this thread. Just listen to the opening narration then go back and read the originl post from BPC. Maybe BPC was onto something afterall.

I thought you'd bumped it so the American team could study it and start planning how to avoid such an epic choke in 2014.

But yeah listening to that perhaps BPC was a Seve disciple.
I love matchplay and strategy is very important as compared to standard medal play. Lets here your strategies, here are some of mine:

    - On the first tee, after shaking hands, I always try and stand near my opponent. 95% of the time I'm taller, and any intimidation is good intimidation.

    - I tend to wear tighter fitting clothing to appear more together, fit, and strong. I try to stay clean shaved and composed, as if I'm in control.

    - If possible, I take a 3-wood or a long iron off the first tee after my opponent has hit driver. This tells them, "I hit the ball too damn far to hit driver, I'll leave that to you." May not be true, but thats the attitude.

    - I give up my honors whenever possible. This establishes a feel that I'm in the control of the match, and they'll hit when I want them to.

    - I always discretely leave a towel over my irons on a par 3 just in case my opponent is curious as to what club I hit or am going to.

    - I concede putts by hitting the ball to them, not declaring, "That's good." I don't know why, but this just lets the guy know I'm not overly impressed with his shot/chip/putt.

    Now lets hear yours...
Just came accross this very old thread and though I would post as I have nothing better to do at the moment.

    1. Standing near your opponent. Do I give a damn? - of course not. However stand too close and I might derive some satisfaction when my spine stretching pavinesqe practice swing hits you in the bollocks.

    2. Tight fitting apparel - As far as I'm concerned you can turn up in the nude - it makes no difference to me.

    3. Taking 3 wood or long iron off the tee - Be my guest - I'm too intellingent to even bother thinking about the reason why you choose your clubs I know my own game.

    4. Give up the honour - big deal!

    5. Leave a towel over your clubs - big deal again - unless you are my size and build your club choice is of no significance whatsoever.

    6. Hitting ball back when conceding putts - two thoughs would go through my mind a) thanks very much and b) what a tosser.

Having played golf at Gleneagles, the site of the next Ryder Cup, as a wee lad with my Pa, it is my humble opinion that the USA team had better field 12 Tom Watson clones or it will have little chance. Unless they dump the basketball stars, teenybop megastar and over-amped swimming doofuss and staff the captain's assistants with Scottish to English interpreters.

All well and good refuting these proven matchplay tactics AV but as BPC the original poster said "Let's hear yours?"

    Ah well

    1. Turn Up
    2. Play without bothering about mind games so I can concentrate on golf.
    3. Shake Hands at end
    4. Enjoy drink at end.

Strangly these seem to work. I have only been defeated once in 4 years. Must be my abnormally high handicap

Yep a definite all time great. This thread exceeds the Camillo Villegas Wow thread IMO.

The Camillo Villegas Wow thread was just a commentary on a current player at the time whereas this Matchplay Strategies thread stands the test of time. :thumbsup:i
