    Ben Hogan Producer Irons
    Hi guys,

Recently acquired a set of old Ben Hogan Producer irons. From an eBay listing, I found that the irons is produced some times around 1975.

Just curious if there are people on this forum that played these irons before, and if so, what do you think about these irons?

Also, one more question - Does anyone of you know a putter that has "Tom Morris Rustless Putter St Andrew" on it? It looks pretty old, but not that old as it has a metal shaft.

Half the people on this board weren't alive in 1975, and the other half are barely alive in 2009.....

I knew a young kid who played Producers very well back in the day, but I've never hit them myself. It was a blade that looked like a cavity back. Go figure.
Later on, sticking to the Hollywood theme, there was a club called "The Director" that was actually beautiful in its simplicity.

I wonder if they ever had models called "Miss Monroe's makeup artist," or "Mr. Wayne's stunt double."

No, but they had an oversized wedge called Miss Mansfield's Left One.

Not at all, lad. The cure for the shanks is clearly outlined in painstaking detail in the movie Tin Cup. It's all there, but you must follow every step.

And it works. It cured McEvoy's shanks and got him to the U.S. Open. I see great potential for you here. If you make it to the U.S. Open, I promise I'll come watch.

How many of us can explain the golf swing while seducing a hot babe? Roy McEvoy can.

kevin costner is a sod-laying f.ag. he gets about as much p.ussy in films as he gets hole-in-ones in pro-ams.

With the exception of Tin Cup and Bull Durham, I'd agree.

So it looks like you're following my recommendation as to balance.

Whats with all the Hating here

I quite liked Tin Cup, granted Costners swing was hardly that of US Open winners but it was enjoyable nether the less.

Has the real BJ Drivers made a return?

I have nothing in particular against Kevin Costner, with the minor exception that he is a mediocre to poor actor, a lousy director who doesn't know how to edit, and an egomaniac who always makes himself the hero in his films. It's too bad I didn't see "Water World," but then I guess about 99.9% of the public didn't see it, either. I loved his American accent in "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves." At least that led to one good line in "Robin Hood, Men in Tights," where Cary Elwes says, "In contrast to some Robin Hoods, I know how to speak with an English accent."

Kevin Costner has only two facial expressions he uses in his lame a$$ movies. A pained frown and a constipated wince.

As an actor he is pathetic.

He's a sh!tty actor, but he's been in some great movies. Aside from Bull Durham and Tin Cup, The Untouchables is a Brian DePalma classic. But I understand how hate can color your ability to like something associated with it. Particularly on GR where it's encouraged.

Without doubt the best movie Costner has ever been associated with is 3000 miles to Graceland. Awesome movie. Graphic violence, a good cast (apart from Costner) and a robbery of a casino by Elvis impersonaters. Way better and more realistic than those lame-arse 'Oceans' movies. A definite must for anyone who loves Tarantino style movies and digs the King.

That scene where they are on the practice range at the U.S. Open is one of the funniest scenes in golf movies.

The great thing about Tin Cup and Bull Durham is they were written by an ex big league ballplayer who let's you inside those sports. On a daily basis we get the over-produced garbage covered in saccharin for the masses. It's nice to see another side. North Dallas Forty another example although the book was way better.

It's a bit like the TV show Burn Notice. The use of first person narrative from the lead character, and depth of detail he goes into, shows they must have got a consultant with alot of field experience. I'm sure government agencies are more than a little perturbed at the free advice handed out every episode. So much more believable than crap shows like 'the unit'.

Burn notice also has my all time favourite actor, Bruce Campbell, in a supporting role.

Great North Dallas Forty quote, "Gross? That's not gross. Gross is whenever you go to kiss your grandma goodbye and she shoves her tongue down your throat. That's gross."

Thank you guys for all your inputs! :)

I have tested the irons by hitting them to a net in my backyard. The feel is not too bad, considering the grip is probably over 30 years old. I feel the club is a bit little in the swing compare to my MP-14.

Back to the movies. Has anyone seen the 2004 Bobby Jones Stroke of Genius? Is it any good?

If I might travel back in time with all the rest of you losers to this 2009 thread--

recalling my high school days in the mid 1970s, I played Wilson Staff Tour Blades.. the great competitors, blade wise, were the Hogan Producers. there was also a PowerBilt blade, as I recall, and Dunlops. And the Ram that Watson played.

I had no $$ and couldn't imagine having two sets of clubs to find out which was best... but if I had been able, I'd have had a set of Hogans to decide if they or the Wilsons were better.

    return to 2011.
