GR Survival Thread
I'm blatantly stealing this idea from some other guy. I think his name is Homoslicer or something. I don't think he can post anymore.
This is a roll call for all surviving members of Golf Review in good standing. I know there are more of us out there, but there have been several casulties.
Stand up and be counted.

This is ********. The only worthwhile thing about this is that it doesn't appear that Larry or Alan can post anymore.
-
I'm still on from my home computer. The minute someone surfs some porn and clears the history trail, I'm audi 5000, but for now, I'm still on the island.
I wonder where the Larry and Alan show is airing nowadays? While I've still got privileges, I'm going to start a "How to spot a chopper on the course" thread.

Kiwi Player
Still logging on from both my home PC and android phone. Not sure about my ipad and haven't tried to login from work.

I'm still here, but I seldom post because this crowd bores me to tears. Nobody cares about the golf swing. When I or anyone posts a serious idea about learning to swing correctly, there is always a chorus of ridicule. Few have the chutzpah to continue after that. So you guys have made your own bed.

Have you heard from Alan? Maybe you could send him a PM. We're all worried about him.

Hey Larry. There's a really bad virus going around. Make sure you clean out your cookies as you really want to avoid this thing. Maybe you've heard about it and already have.

I'm still able to answer the role call also.

Come on Lary. I've never backed down from a serious discussion on the golf swing. In fact I recall you posting and when you get flustered you run away for a couple of weeks only to post some other idea. Rinse and repeat.
Btw - did you figure out your early release?

Considering the numbers, there's almost a guarantee someone just like us, same appearance, same thoughts, is pecking away on a computer making the same comment. At some point the limitlessness of possibilities is overtaken by the limit of possibilities in the face of overwhelming number.
I find relativity to be depressing in this context as it presents liklihood it's beyond human possibility to ever find one another.

By the grace of god I'm still here. I guess that dream of 15k posts is pointless now.

I have 2 regrets...
1) fred3 may not be able to get to 1,000. He's currently standing at 997 scathing beatdowns. A real tragedy.
2) I never got a dedicated apology thread. It was one of my goals from the beginning, and though KP did make an apology thread, it wasn't directed to me.

I am always working to improve my swing. Taking it up on plane, reaching a correct top position that triggers a downswing in the correct sequence, on plane and accelerating through impact. Learn it in slow motion, eventually repeat it at full speed on the course. This ain't rocket science. But most of us will require lessons, to learn what and how to learn it. Not one, but a series. Still cheaper than a new driver!
It would be really weird to join a forum started by FD, just so I could immediately put him on ignore. He's such an insufferable a-hole.
But it's that kind of tension that made GR what it was. FD did a good move creating the site. At some point we might move over to Joel's but let's give him his due. He doesn't expect kid glove treatment so don't give it to him. Besides, it isn't really his site, it's all of ours and FD respects that.

He really bothers you that much? I've met him in person and he's a great guy. An absolute gentleman. Are you saying that his tongue in cheek bragging and professing of his own ball striking greatness really bothers you that much?
I know you hate on Larry & Nifty too and that I can understand to a certain extent but hating on FD for his quirky ways is nuts. An absolute waste of energy. You need to lighten up Francis. :p

I think it's more due to the fact that FD can be very opinionated at times. In a very middle class kinda way. Dosen't bother me at but.....

Science/religion
Work ethic/company ehtics
Global warming
Music
Worthwhile pastimes

I think if you review most of FD's posting you will find he has strong opinions on most things, and is pretty sure he's right.

Don't worry. We'll attract plenty of members when word gets around that GR veteran and legend Kiwi Player has joined up at The Caddyshack.
I think that Yaz and FD might have quite a bit in common when all is said and done.
In the old western venacular: This town is not big enough for the two of us.
-
At one point or another I've disliked both Yaz and FD. Yaz, because his reading comprehension is garbage, and FD because his "I'm the best" schtick can be taken the wrong way. However, I like both personalities just fine and look forward to both of their contributions, especially if it means they'll be fighting with each other.

If you'r still here HB how about them Bengals? They finally make the playoffs and there isn't anyone left here to gloat to. Life certainly is a bittch.

This Bengals team is better than last year's for sure. Don't if they are ready to make any impact, though the Texans aren't exactly on fire lately. I actually believe they can win a game.
Where is the Purist? The Steelers played like the Bengals in week 16 to get bounced by the Bengals. I'm not English, but I believe there must be some irony there.
-
Still on this biatch from the home computer.
And fukk the Bengals. (yes, that is the jealousy talking.)
If I had to pick a team to play in the playoffs, it would be the Texans. They are playing like hot garbage as of late. If the Colts and Foreskins make it past the first round, I'll be surprised.

Still able to logon via phone and (I assume) home computer. Now I know how Will Smith felt in Legend.

Now wait just a fukking second. You signed on as a Bengals fan, I signed on as a Panthers fan. It's not my fault the Panthers suck. They can't even handle throwing a lost season down the crapper to secure a better draft pick. It's been tough being a Panthers fan, but at least my AFC team made the playoffs and punked their rival.

That's right. I had forgotten the deal. Go Bengals!! To be honest, I can live with the Bengals as my AFC team. I haven't had any reason to detest the Bengals. Just about every other team in the NFL, I have a profound hatred for, but the Bengals have been so irrelevant that I never developed the hate. Plus I was a huge Jeff Blake fan back in the day. (See: Peach Bowl 1992)

That was a very Bengals-esque performance by the Steelers in week 16, but it wasn't all that unexpected. This is 3 or 4 years in a row that Pittsburgh has had a weak offensive line...It wouldn't be as bad if they were just below average and could stay healthy, but the line has had terrible durability.
Bottom line is Pittsburgh wasn't going anywhere even if they did make the playoffs this year. We probably would have beat the Texans because we know how to stop the run, but there is no way were going to beat Manning or Brady.
I feel bad for the Bengals. I think you guys actually had a very good pass rush this year and a serviceable offense. The Texans were a bad matchup for the gals, because of their tough defense and strong running game...Cincy probably had a better chance against NE or Denver with their softer defenses and throw first game plan.

I wasn't very pleased with the Bengals effort on Saturday. They couldn't get any pressure on Schaub at all. It seemed like a very conservative pass rush, which allowed their QB to wait until coverage broke down instead of pressuring the quick throw or getting him to the ground.
Rey-rey is just not a middle linebacker. The guy is never near the play, and can't cover a TE to save his life.
Dalton didn't target AJ Green once in the first half. I don't care if Jonathan Joseph has him locked down, throw the ball to AJ. He can make plays.
BJGE only got 11 carries. WTH? He was running effectively.
To this point, Gresham is not a big game TE. He drops way too many balls in games that count.
Dalton looked like he choked a bit. Not very accurate and he took too many sacks. The o-line needs some work.
Before Saturday, I was thinking that the Bengals were a couple upgrades away from being a real contender. Now, I'm thinking it's more like 5 or 6.

Who are you rooting for out of the AFC? I don't think I can root for Elway, Brady, or Schaub (former Cavalier). I might have to root for Lewis.
On the NFC side, I will be pulling for the Seahawks. Wilson & Robinson are from Richmond, and Chancellor played for Tech.

I've got nothing against Manning or the Broncos, so I'll go with them.
The Patriots are one of my least favorite teams.
The Texans are boring to me. I don't know why, they are pretty solid.
I cannot root for the Ravens.
I'm also going with Seattle. I'd like to see some new blood.

Well, I guess a few things have. The old man passed so now its just me and ma. She has to have someone come in twice a week to help with showers and I help her with her pills, cook, clean etc. Put my brothers dresser in the ditch doing sixty. Blacked out (night before got quite inebriated and didn't drink enough fluids the next day when it was hotter than hell). When I came to a fellow golfer from my course happened to drive by. We got here stood back on two and I drove it home. Totalled it out and had 6 busted ribs and my knee and shoulder got a little phucked but rode away. Got my hep C cured by the VA which was awesome but discovered I have arthritis in my sacro-iliac which sucks.
After the bike accident been living it one day at a time. Never know when you're going to take a dirt bath.

Lorena Ochoa Invitational Preview & Pairings
This week the LPGA moves to Mexico for the playing of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex. Many of you may remember last year's exciting and unlikely finish, when Christina Kim defeated Shanshan Feng in a playoff.
Here are the Key Details:

Since misery often loves company, I may as well share my 2014 - "the worst year of my life" story.
My father was also suffering from Alzheimer's as many of you know, and in January 2014 he fell down and broke his hip, just a week before his 77th birthday. This meant he had to go to the hospital to get his hip surgically repaired so he could at least walk again. It was the last time he'd ever be home. His recovery was slow, and his Alzheimer's worsened as his hip recovered from surgery.
Meanwhile, I was living in a 2 bedroom apartment with my wife, mostly to distance myself from the hostility my father directed toward me as the disease ate away at his mind, my wife having almost forcibly removed me from the situation for my own sanity. While my father was in the hospital recovering from hip surgery but succumbing to Alzheimer's, my apartment building caught fire and I was forced to relocate prematurely (I had always planned on moving back in with my mother to help her out and make sure she never had to live alone) and so I had 4 days to get all my salvageable stuff out of my apartment and the rest was up to the remediation company - who couldn't even be assed to carry my undamaged leather sofa down 2 flights of stairs, (pretty sure they just chucked it into a dumpster from my balcony because it was heavy) thus I was "reimbursed" haha for the "value" of my sofa... anyways. Thank fukk I had insurance on all my sh!t, I lost a truckload of it.
So my wife and I hastily moved back home, no bedroom anymore, no bed to sleep in, we were in pretty dire straits for awhile. I slept in a reclining chair for the first few nights. Turned out the house was also in dire need of repair and renovation when we got back, and that went far worse than expected. I had to have about 25' of wall replaced, 3 windows and 2 doors. Sure, no biggie, just get the contractor to come in and fix it, and we're done. NOPE. First big window comes out, there's a carpenter ant colony in the sistered 2x6's above it. A HUUUUGE ant colony. I spent the next 3 hours fumigating the room with Raid and vacuuming all the dead ants - this is the room I will have to sleep in that night BTW, I feel like a refugee in my own home now. This is bullsh!t. Finally that gets fixed and we do the same in the living room removing a window to install a sliding patio door. Same thing - ants have a huge colony above the window, so lots of fumigating and vacuuming ants again. Wonderful. Finally the work is done and we get to building a new deck out back, and OMG the new deck is awesome, and that's when...
...My dad takes a turn for the worse. Not his Alzheimer's, that was already in the final stages - he was trying to call home many times a day on a TV remote control. No, this time he got pancreatitis. The doctors said that even with surgery his odds of survival were about 30%. So we were faced with the choice nobody ever wants to make... and so my father passed away late in the evening on September 18th, 2014.
We didn't really celebrate Christmas last year, we put up a tree, we had turkey dinner, but it was so, so painful. I found his Christmas stocking among the decorations and pretty much lost it for a week. I can no longer look forward to the Christmas holidays. Up until my dad passed I had recently lost many members of my family, but losing him was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.
My father was my best friend. We were always doing pretty much everything together. I was angry that the Alzheimer's had already taken him from me, and I thought I had already come to terms with the reality of him not being the man I knew anymore, of becoming a man lost to the decay the illness causes. Then he was gone. For real. No more visits in the hospital, no more not being recognized by my own father, he's just... gone now. It hurts so much it actually makes you numb.
So that's what 2014 served up for me. JT, I know you and I have gone through almost the exact same crap recently, so you're not alone buddy. Do you know what I've learned from all of this? Life goes on. As horrible as the loss makes you feel, this world doesn't make time for sympathy. Life goes on. We have to keep going too.

You know Tony, I used to not give a sh!t about you posting thread after thread that absolutely none of the active members of this site care to read... but in reality all you provide us with is one more bag of trash to carry out to the curb on garbage day. You make it become work to stay connected with actively participating members of the forum by burying their threads and posts below endless threads of self-promotion. READ MY BLOG! over and over again. Yeah, we get it, we have the link to your blog.
If you're gonna be a prick about it you can STFU and GTFO. D!ickhead.

Damn FON. That is some heavy sh!t.
I've had a pretty decent year, though like you, I fear my pops isn't long for this world. Dude was in a wheelchair for most of 2015. He didn't recover from a sports-related stroke about 7 years ago and had a remission about a year ago. Always has been a fighter about it, but I think he's getting resigned to his current condition.
Got to play Pine Valley last month. I obviously haven't played many of the top in the world golf courses, but I can definitely see why it's ranked #1 in the world. I wish I could have played it better, but from a handicap posting standpoint, I didn't do too poorly. My +11 81 posted as a 3.9, which is just ridiculous. I'm also headed to Myrtle Beach (Hillbilly Riviera) this weekend for a couple rounds of golf with a friend of mine from NYC. Dude just got through a messy divorce so it's bound to be a sh!tshow.

Burying their threads? Nobody posts on here anymore. The reason I keep posting here is I do get about 30 hits a day from here. Apparently people come on here but don't post anything.

You said it FON, life goes on and the world gives two shites. So my goal in life now is to be able to someday, just throw the clubs and a suitcase in a car and be able to cruise around the country and play some different courses and maybe meet up with some of the people on this site. Play a round or two and have a couple of cold ones. Don't know if that will ever happen but everyone needs goals.

Appreciate the sentiment HB. Sorry to hear about the situation with your pops, I hope you get the opportunity to make the most of whatever time you may have left together.
Pine Valley huh? Holy crap, I'm conversing with GR royalty right now, praise be to thee, my king. World's #1 course. 81. Hell yeah I'd take that. Damn respectable score. No tweetys though I'm guessing or you'd have bragged by now... :p
Have fun in Myrtle Beach, and make sure your buddy keeps out of trouble. Enjoying freedom comes with a price - you have to remain free to enjoy it.

So predictable. You post your threads here because you get 30 hits a day, and yet participate in 0% of the discussions here with members until one of us talks smack about you, then you show up. You have no interest in the site, no interest in the community, and it's quite clear that permitting members like you to simply create threads and source hits to your blogs has in fact decreased site participation. I feel quite comfortable comparing you to a parasite right about now.

Maybe it's odd, or maybe it's me, but it seems like turning 40, this is around when all the sh!t begins to hit the fan. My good buddy lost his dad a couple years ago. I lost my dad last year, then my dad's best friend, whose son is also one of my best friends passed away right after, then a few months later two of my other good friends lost their fathers, and another shortly after that. All of us are between 35-45. At 40, I am now the oldest surviving male of my surname. I will also be the last to bear my family surname, as I have no children. Strange feeling.
Anyways, if you're ever considering a golf trip to Nova Scotia, I's suggest the last week of September/first week of October, the fall colors will be spectacular, and I could make myself available for a round or two and a few beers somewhere on Cape Breton Island.

Just got an email alert that you made a post Loz. Yes the time has got away. It certainly was a fun few years when we were all regular posters here.
I wonder if it can ever start up again for us?
I presume that if I got an alert others did too. Amazingly I am still logged in too. I also wonder if new members can now join up.

Wouldn't it be great to start up the old site again? I really missed the discussion watching Spieth's meltdown this week. I'm sure it would have engendered some entertaining discussion. :)
Good to know a few of the old crew are still lurking.

Gidday Burndog! You still playing?

I turned off the email alerts when SoonerBS posted a thread entitled "Do you prefer shaved pu$$y" and my wife saw it. Wasn't impressed and wondered what I was really discussing on this 'golf forum'! LOL

G'day Kiwi. A few may be the operative word. It seems the membership status quo remains unchanged in that new members cannot join etc. so I guess it will remain a "dead" site.
You are right. The "Spieth Meltdown" thread would have been many pages long and no doubt extremely entertaining. The aftermath is so PC I can hardly stand it. We this and we that as if the caddies are hitting the shots. I blame Stevie for all this new age bullsh!t. Geller or Greller or who ever that hanger on is should get the push as far as I'm concerned. It's time Jordy boy had a decent oldschool looper who could keep his head from coming off.

I'm a little on the inside on this but I guess I'd say public discourse can greatly simplify complex situations and generally misses the mark. This is a kid who as a teen was always the most mature, intelligent, level headed individual in the room. No one can outthink him including coaches with decades of experience. If you look at his history from junior play on up, he simply didn't choke, he was the opposite of that.
I think he had a s.hit game during the Masters as he has much of the year, managed to claw his way into the lead despite that but at the point where pressure reached a certain threshold he folded. Look at his play before the meltdown, he'd been hitting terrible shots all week.
Give him a little more game, which he'll find when he works through his swing funk, and he'll likely be the same guy he was. Unless he doesn't recover from this. My guess is it'll just make him stronger.
There's no caddy that can think with him, he needs a bud or at least a feel good guy.

So did it serve a purpose by at least getting your wife to shave? Maybe not, had it worked you probably wouldn't have turned off alerts.
It's 2016 for god's sake, women have been shaving for 20+ years.

G'day Loz. Fair comment. I wasn't really having a go at Spieth. He was fighting his swing and did the best he could with it. I do think it was a poor decision to drop where he did after the tee shot in the water.
It was really what his caddy said afterwards (day or more later). Can't Jordan speak for himself? This whole team thing is crap. The player should play his own game and make his own decisions. That's how he got there (on tour) in the first place. Caddies (some, and this is a prime example) are getting an inflated idea of their own importance. They should STFU.

Ah...got it.
Until he can rip cameras out of the hands of obnoxious photographers and throw them into adjacent lakes, I'm not sure I'd group Speith's caddie with Stevie.
I view the Speith caddie situation as reflective of the world of sports hanger onners. I've learned over these last few years just how in it caddies are for attention and association. Kind of like they want to be on camera in a reality show more than anything. Years back there was that rainbow wigged guy. Today it's much of our culture.
Wait...I need to take a selfie of me posting this.
There.

Best poontang ever was in Kaosiung and Olongpo.
Best golf shot I ever made was the nine iron I hit off the tee on #2 this past Saturday morning in the first round of the club playoffs. The ball hit just short and waddled into the hole. My first ace. Ike was president when I started playing golf.
I miss photos the guys would post. Like Spank's Frisco fairies. And 12 Sandwich's cars and his dog. Etc.
Actually miss LPGA Tony. When you get to be my age, you can get better swing tips by watching the LPGA players than the flat bellies.
Word.
