My clubfitter, who I consider to be pretty credible, says the 57-s are more forgiving and have a slightly higher ball flight than the 60-s. In general, he has very positive things to say about them. I used to play the 60-s and loved them but have never hit the 57-s. What kind of price are we talking about and can you get them with your fitting specs, desired shaft, etc.?

yes i can. a pro fitter that i used to work for has a set that all i have to pay for is the shafts and the shipping. the whole set should cost me about 250 w project x shafts.
if the 60s have a lower ball flight thats what im going with. thanks lorenzo

I loved the 60-s. At that price, how could you go wrong? If you don't like them BJ will buy them and sell them to his dad after a couple of weeks.

Hope they work out well.

hated my MP 60's
I had played Mizuno T Zoids for over 12 years. I loved these clubs and swore I would never play any other, I shot my best round of 73 with them. But I wore off the grooves and ordered to my specs a set of MP 60's "I hated them". They did not have that buttery feel on impact.
I shopped and hit around and chose a set of Ping S 58's they felt so much like my forged T Zoids. It was scary that an investment cast could feel so good. I can work the ball any which way. So I now am a Ping man. I never hit the 57's they were not around, but they sure look just like the 60's..... Good Luck, Jack

Man I hate you Americans sometimes. Geting a set of custom built MP60's for 250!!! The best pirce I could possibly do here is on ebay for about 850. And they are the ones from American sellers. I wouldn't buy them even if I had the money now that I know how much those greedy US sellers are jacking the prices up for Aussies.

hey wait a second. these are only that cheap because they are his old clubs and he is a good friend of mine who knows how to build clubs.
basically he is giving me the heads and im paying for new shafts.
he will build them for nothing as a favor to me.

That makes more sense. I thought from your posts you were getting a new set made up. Now I can go back to fantasising about one day convincing the bank manager (fiancee) to release the funds for a set of Mizuno's.

If I were to play Mizzy's the 57 would be my choice, as they are pretty much the same as my 690cb's, but they are too $$$ for my taste. I like my Titty's.

I played both and they hit the ball too high for me in the short irons. If I went for Muzzy's I would either buy the 32's or mix a set up with the 32's in the mids and shorts and the 57 or 60's in the long irons. All I know is the project X shafts would be in any club I buy. I love those shafts.

I honestly thought the 57's were just repackaged 60's. Sort of like how Ping keeps coming up with new numbers for the same clubs. The only difference cosmetically is that the "cut muscle" is a bit higher on the face.
And Dennis, what the hell happened to your AP2's? I thought those were your new messiah.

AP1s and ive always played a forged whatever from titty 755 to mp 32s but i have been reworking my entire swing so i thought i would go to an easy iron while learning my new swing.things are coming along better than i thought they would though so its time to go back.

I went by the local Golfsmith and looked at both the MP 60's and the MP 57's, and they looked surprisingly similar. I was expecting the MP 57's to have a bit deeper cavity back. I didn't hit either, so I can't compare that aspect, however. But on appearance alone, the differences were less than I had anticipated.

bj if you are going to play mizzy why not put the best irons they ever made back in your bag: they should be right there in your garage among the 20 odd other sets you have. you can spot them easily they are the ones that say MP 33 on them.

NAH instead of going after the new pretty mizzy's why not snag a set of 33's: trust me the 57's or 67's are not going to be any better than those.

hell buy BJ's from him he's not using them anyway.

You can't get stuck with any particular brand. I was at a demo day a few weeks ago and tried just about every brand, Mizunos were my least favorite. Surprisingly the irons I liked the best were the MacGregor Pro Ms. The ones I tried were a sick gun metal finish. Second best were the Cleveland CGTours.

Oh yes, clubfitters at resorts always are top notch. Particularly the ones that have been there a full week.

The 32-s are a mid trajectory club except in the long irons where they are mid/high. The 57-s are designed with more weight low in the cavity to add forgiveness and raise the ball flight.

I finally pulled the trigger this morning on the T-Zoid Pro II's I've had my eye on for a while. I got a swap for my MX20's plus I threw in an old putter I had lying around gathering dust. They are exactly my specs so they should be right to go. They felt awesome in the net, and I will get a chance to have a hit with them tomorrow. They have a small cavity but look more blade-like than the 57's or 60's, and feel heaps better than the T-Zoid Pro's, which were probably the worst players iron Mizuno has ever brought out.

Thanks Dennis (and Lorenzo).
I just played a round this morning with them and they felt and performed great, but I was reminded of a few facts about playing blade-like clubs (I will refer to them as blades for arguments sake). At risk of re-igniting the blae vs GI debate, the things I noticed today are
1. Blades will go exactly where your swing and impact position says they should go. I noticed a considerable amount of right and left movement that would have been supressed by my MX20's.
2. There is a bigger loss of distance with poorly struck shots, but not as much as non blade players claim. I also noticed I was about half a club shorter with these most of the time, but I put that down to weaker lofts and stiffer shafts.
3. The ball flight and feel was heaps beter than my old set. When I pured them they felt awesome. The feeling of control was much higher with these too. They are precision instruments.
4. You get what you put in. I hit more really bad shots today than with the GII clubs, but I also hit heaps more pure golf shots than I normally would in a round too.
5. They have already had a game improvement affect on my game. In the nets beforehitting off I was swinging what I thought was ok but getting jarring through the hands. After trial and error, I found that when I concentrated on weight transfer and keeping my head behind the ball at impact the feel was pure. These clubs tell me when I'm swinging correctly or sh!te.

Overall it was an enjoyable experience. I think I have probably taken one step back to take two steps forward. But I hit enough good shots to know that improvement will definitely come. I know as my game comes back these will allow me to do things that I simply couldn't do with GI clubs.

If your experience is similar to mine, the distance penalty will evaporate as you adapt to the clubs, and benefit from the game improvement aspect, which sounds like blade propaganda, but it was certainly true for me.

I hope you're right, but those MX20's were ridiculously long clubs. But I can already feel my ball striking improving. These clubs are forcing me to hit down on the back of the ball with descending blow and catch the ball first, followed by a shallow divot. Before I could get away with sweeping shots and imprecise contact soi I got sloppy. I definitely agree that blades will improve your game. I think the term 'game improvement' for irons should be changed to 'score improvement for guys who don't care about how they hit the ball'.

I can remember feeling a little let down after I first put my 32-s in play, followed by elation as my technique improved. My previous, game improvement clubs didn't mind being hit a groove or two low, or a sweeping hit. The 32-s penalize you for that. But at this point I get better results with the 32-s than I ever did with my GI clubs, and now I'm planning on the 67-s. The thought of going with 67-s when I was playing GI would have been ridiculous.

The 67's are still the holy grail for me too, but I think I can settle for the Pro II's for the time being. I'm playing my home course on Thursday, so I will get a better indication of where I'm at with the new sticks then. The course I played today is my worst course anywhere and i always struggle there.

Spent the front nine getting acquainted with the new sticks and shot a woeful 7 over, but got them dialed in on the back nine. Shot 1 over with 2 birdies and 3 other good birdie chances that shaved the hole. Still having a little trouble finding the sweet spot of the long iroins, but 5 iron down were pure. These clubs are so much more precise and acurate than the old MX 20's, which I must admit play like shovels by comparison. I just wish I went grain flkow forged (blades) earlier.

Let us know how you like em. I went with the i/3 blades, standard black dot, with JZ cushion stiffs. I'm hitting the PW over 150 yards, so i'm going to have to adjust my club selection.

Karsten Solheim's ghost visited me in a dream. I heeded his call.

Come to think of it, Dennis hijacked his own thread by going with S58's. That's pretty cool.

WTF BJ? You are one of the most outspoken opponents of cast CB SGI POS shovels (Ping) on this forum. What has caused such a seismic shift in your golfing allegiances? It sounds like you have been seduced by the artificial distance increases gained from super strong lofts, without regarding the associated drop in accuracy and workability. If you went to something remotely 'player like' like S58/59's I could almost understand, but the I3's?

Whatever has come over you, snap out of it and come back to the fold. Don't make us drag up some of your old posts about Ping, in particular I3 'blades'.

Don't worry Hacker, BJ will have a new set in about two weeks. They may not be players clubs immediately though. They might be Callaway, then Cleveland etc but eventually he'll go full circle and end up with forged Titleists 'players' cavity backs back in the bag.

Until he gets another set of Pings ...

I left my camera at my parent's house last weekend. I'll have to post stock pics for Kiwi. This is hands-down the best setup I've ever had. The putter kicks as.s

As for the irons, they're pretty much standard lofts. The PW is 47*.

I apologize hacker, I've gotten several WTF's from this bag. But the fact is, I bomb this driver, stripe this 3 wood, the irons are like throwing darts, and the putter is $.

No offence BJ but you say that every time you get a new setup.

Your most recent mantra was 'forged' irons only and forged Titty's were the business.
bj if you are going to play mizzy why not put the best irons they ever made back in your bag: they should be right there in your garage among the 20 odd other sets you have. you can spot them easily they are the ones that say MP 33 on them.

NAH instead of going after the new pretty mizzy's why not snag a set of 33's: trust me the 57's or 67's are not going to be any better than those.

hell buy BJ's from him he's not using them anyway.

I'll be interested to hear about their workability. From hitting them in the nets I know they have great feel for Pings, but couldn't tell if they could be worked left or right. My new sticks are performing very well for me. Last Saturday I won the A grade nett at only my fourth outing with the Pro II's, and finally figured out how to stripe the long irons, which was the only real problem I have had with them. The transition to blades from GI for me has been surprisingly fast and I feel like I've been playing these for years. They are quickly becoming my all time favourite clubs.

No i did not.the distance is great im not very long. with these, 7 iron carry is about 160+ thats w range balls my tittys i was 150. low irons have a great low ball flight that seems very easy to control. i play tom. so i will know more then.

Mizuno are the iron gods
Mizuno are the iron gods. I shoot in the mid 80s and played MP 30s with Rifle 5.5s for 5 years, but was yearning for a change. I demod and was fitted for TaylorMade and Mizuno. I analized my swing and decided to go with MX 25s with Nippon NS pro R (75-80 mph swing) - oh what a feeling! PURE is the only way to describe these clubs. The sweet spot is gigantic and the ball sails off the face with effortless zest. The clubs are designed for straight and high ball flight, but they can be worked to a good degree (beautiful fades and cuts). I recommend these irons to a good ball striker who wants ultimate forgiveness out of a forged club.
