Who makes the best Golf Shirt?
I wear a lot of golf shirts to work, and some are simply way better than others. I need to do some shopping so that on Member/Guest week, my partner and I can look like a couple of d-bags. I'm interested in hearing who you think makes the nicest ones. I'm definitely partial to ones that are moisture wicking, but that look very nice... not like a workout shirt. No colors that will make me look like that tool Fowler either. This is a gentleman's game.

Fine, winning isn't important to you. Just pick up any old shirt and go get your asss kicked.
Wearing black in the sun is exactly the type of intimidation I'm talking about. Your opponents will know exactly how dedicated you are.
But that doesn't sound like something you're ready to take on. You probably won't even coordinate belts, shorts, socks, shoes, or gloves. Why don't you just save some cash and get some Slazenger sh!t off the clearance rack in Dicks?

I have a Greg Norman shirt and it is by far the best shirt I've owned in terms of fit, feel and wear. I also like the Nike shirts but they are pretty expensive. Addidas makes good shirts. Ashworth are horrible.

Costco Kirkland golf shirts appear to have more material in them than the expensive brands and they cost $14.99.

Its not the brand thats important, its the material. Aslong as its 100% poly you will look good. Poly is light and comfortable and doesnt fade.

Sorry HB, but after you posted the Travis Matthews ****, I can no longer respect your opinion in this matter. Those shirts are downright ugly.

FD - I have a bunch of the Nike shirts and like them, but looking for something a little higher quality. The Foot Joy shirts actually look pretty nice, as do the Fairway and Greene. You must all be too young to remember one of the world's best players who wore all black for years earning him the nickname "The Black Knight". Gary Player.

Anyway, it strikes me that concern about golf apparel if one is not paid to wear it is. rather gay, and not in the sense that the word means "happy" and "carefree".

I have never bought a golf shirt in my life. All I have ever owned and worn have been given to me as gifts by well-meaning friends and relatives. I much prefer 100% cotton in at least one size too large for me since they tend to shrink in dryers and I hate having to pull up a left sleeve in order to hit a golf ball. My favorite golf shirt color is red because I compete best when wearing a red shirt.

I have one Tiger Woods Nike golf shirt that was given to me by my in-laws maybe 12 years ago. I wore it twice. It is, unfortunately, gray and not red.

My absolute favorite golf shirt is dark blue of the best quality and has the seal of the President of the United States and an embroidered script below the seal indicating the commemoration of the first inauguration of George Walker Bush. It was given to me by a good friend who had a White House press pass. He also gave me two Camp David presidential ball caps that I have yet to wear.

I must have 10 feet of golf shirts! That is how much hanging room they take tightly packed in my closet. I only like the newer kind that "wick," so I need to more aggressively weed out the ones I never wear.

My wife drops by resale shops on her travels in N. County and up in LA, Costa Mesa, San Clemente, etc. That is "housewives of Orange County" country. She gets fantastic buys on EXPENSIVE women's clothes that I would have a fit if she paid full retail in Nordstroms or Neimans. But she also often brings home NEW Greg Normans and US Open shirts she pays $5 for. I am sure I have a dozen unworn shirts!

But I work on the range and do my PT in Morgan Run tennis tournament shirts, collared, cotton, white with a club logo. I buy stacks of them for a few bucks each after their annual super senior tournament.

Going to Palm Springs Thursday. Will stay downtown where we can walk to a dozen good restaurants. This is also "restaurant week" and a street fair will be going on. Friday we'll play Indian Wells CC, also owned by the company that owns my home club, so we play free. Beautiful big clubhouses, elegant dining, etc. Same with Mission Hills over there. No time to play both this trip. Driving back Saturday and playing "The Crossings" Sunday morning.

I expect to score because after my recent series of lessons and complete swing change, I hit most fairways and greens. Golf is fun from the short grass.

Wofat, didn't realize you were in Virginia. We may have to tee it up some day.

Cotton shirts are always going to look better. I hate to say it, but DLturd has the best clothing line. I don't think I've ever had a polo shirt go bad...I have had some for over a decade, and they still look great. The only problem is they don't wick away moisture and will get wet when its hot.

Wicker shirts are functional on the course, but they don't look that great for work attire. They will also accentuate your moobs if you are one of those busty males. Dudes with moobs should always wear an undershirt. I like the Nike line the best.

I don't know how any of you guys still wear all cotton shirts while playing golf. The new lightweight shirts by Nike, Addidas and Puma are lighter, more flexible and much cooler than their all-cotton counterparts. My work is business-casual so I'll usually wear a button down dress shirt and slacks but sometimes I'll wear a polo shirt. I bought three cotton polo shirts, Calvin Klein, from Costco for $16.99 each and they are extremely comfortable and light.

The worst shirts to wear when playing golf are the Lacoste-type with the little alligator. Those are heavy and uncomfortable against your skin when swinging.

One thing I will never do is buy those matching addidas pants and belt to wear with the shirt.

I've owned Ralph Lauren polo shirts and they don't last 10 years. All shirts fade over time and become frayed at the edges. They all seem to develop a hole right at the bottom of the V at the center of your chest. I would agree that Polo shirts last longer but not by much. Wasn't really having a crack at the Wallabies my post was more in response to HB post about wearing all black. I know you and OP are not big rugby fans but in the wake of yet another dismal Wallaby loss do you still buy into the Deans myth? His old Crusaders still truck along pretty nicely without him. In the lead up to the RWC the past three years all the losses were tolerated because it was assumed the 'master coach' had a 'master plan' to win the Cup and all the losses were part of the building process. That turned out to be nothing but smoke and mirrors. Surely further failure, especially against minnows like Scotland can't be tolerated any longer. Time to appoint an Aussie who will instill some Aussie pride.

I play golf in no more than 5 shirts. They are all either too weird to wear to work and made out of that wicking material. 2 are Nike, 2 are Puma, one is Travis Mathew. I have a J. Lindeberg shirt that I never wear, even too weird for me.
I have 3 pair of shorts in the regular rotation, none of which are khaki.
I have 2 golf-specific belts. Ol' whitey and this black belt with a couple buckles (one is skull).

They say the best thing you can do to reduce stress and look better is to own less clothing but have the clothing you do own look really good.

If you think about it, there's no reason to have more than 3 pairs of jeans, 3 chinos and maybe four or five golf shirts. I tend to ignore some of the golf shirts and should just get rid of them. I also have too many pairs of golf shoes. One pair just sits on a shelf in my garage because I don't like the way they look. I should just toss them.

I have 2 nice pair of jeans. One OK pair that I'll wear around the house. One beat to hell pair that I do yard work in.
I really need to get rid of some of my golf shirts. I literally have 2 dozen hanging in my closet. They aren't necessarily bad, just don't crack the top 5, and I have never played more than 5 rounds of golf in between laundry cycles.

Are you talking about soft-spikeless shoes? All of my golf shoes have soft spikes. I actually have 4 pair of shoes that see action, although my white Nikes are probably relegated to the B team
2010 black Nike TW's
2012 white Ecco Biom - best golf shoe ever created
2011 white with greyish blue trim FJ Icon wingtips - pimp shoes
2010 white Nike Tour Premium - great shoe, just not as great as the Ecco's.

In Oz those heavy cotton shirts like the Le Coste are handy in Oz during the winter months as our winters are farily mild, but I agree in sumer they suck arse. From the beginning of Spring to the end of Autumn (Fall for you American dumb arses) I'm a 100% polyester man all the way. They are light, breathable and never stretch or fade. They basically last until you rip a hole in them, and they are pretty tough so that doesnt happe often. I have some poly shirts 2-3 years old that look as good as the day they were bought.

Yeah spikeless. Like the shoes Freddie C. wears. I think they might take 3 strokes off your game...not a full 4, but 3 is good for a shoe.

I don't trust brand name T-shirt on eBay... could be faked... I bought beautiful/ real Greg Norman T- shirt in Pocono last yr when the store lost its lease (Reebok ? owns the space now it's being used for Ashworth instead of Greg Norman clothing). My IBM friend went to Taiwan/ Singapore for business trip and bought me a beautiful Titlest golf shirt (maybe $15 USD and I am not surprised if it's faked)

Agree about the polyester. I have a couple of shirts for over two years and not a sign of fading. Most of the heavier cotton shirts I've had are fukced after one summer.

+1

All of my cotton shirts look like a homeless man lived in them after a full summer of wear. I've had some of my poly and poly blend shirts now for 2 or 3 seasons and they still look great.

?? How is it science and what is being lied about? The article states the various properties of cotton and poly and basically states that you're killing the earth if you're not growing or making it yourself.
