Come look at my balls with me.

Hi Folks, Here are some new cross sectioned golf balls. I didn't carefully cut these, but I did polish them well. there are here only for your viewing pleasure as I have not analyzed these materials.

    Some things to notice.
    1) The Taylormade TP Red ball has four layers...witih two mantles (contrast with the callway four layer balls which have two cores)
    2) The TM TP Red actually is red in the core and has a pretty thick cover. the materials gradually get softer with each layer as you progress towards the core.
    3) the Srixon "go long" ball has the thickest cover I have ever seen and the dimples are extremely shallow. that's unusual. typically shallow dimple balls have thinner covers (which allow for more compressible core material ergo greater distance from expansion) counter-intuitively this Srixon go long ball truly is one of the longest balls I have ever hit. beats me how it is possible with this two-piece wonder.
    4) The Top Flite D2 Feel has a thin cover and a pretty low-density core, and was very easy to cut. a great change from the "Rock-Flite" days of old.

It seems as though your saw is finally getting dull from cutting open golf balls. Which contract will get charged for a new saw blade?

The Srixon is obviously a range ball.

actually I just used a regular old band saw and not a diamond saw this time.
The Srixon wasn't a range ball. I was given two sleeves of these ball by a Srixon Rep at a local golf course.
I think people found they actually carried farther than expected because later in teh day as I was walking aorund the perimeter of the course, I found six more of these balls beyond the fence of the course.....about 20 yards beyond the second green.

Looking at the TP red makes me wonder if the TP Black is black inside. Is it? That would be too logical for the marketing machine of TM.

I have to admit I wonder the same thing....so I cut one open.
The TM TP Black is all red inside.... it looks the same but has no yellow.

The TM burner is all green inside with no mantle.

I think the TP black is also a three piece whereas the TP red is four.
