post match Dave vs Sooner notes
Working on video now...
Sooner is a warm hearted easy going guy, great golf partner, I enjoyed that round a lot.
we'll be doing it again soon enough.
As to the three jacks... the first one I wrote to clmax was from 800 feet, joking a bit but it was very long, and clmax wrote it as 8 feet. It was more like sixty. :-)
the second three jack was almost that long. I hate three jacking but they were long putts. :-)
Sooner had a bit of a crisis of confidence midway through... I felt for him, know exactly how it feels when your brain disconnects and you start expecting the worst. He's not far from being a very good player, though... hits it brutally long when he connects.
and he's 6'4" like me. I was quite pleased with my recent 40 lb weight loss-- until I stood next to Sooner. I'm still the fat guy. dammmit. :-)
I drained a couple in the 15-20 range while taking back the lead, and I also made several 4-6 footers when it counted. Didn't manage to make them coming down the stretch... gave away three shots on 15-16-17 missing four footers. should have had 38 on back. But I made them while turning the match around.
btw that birdie I made was on a par 5, wedged it in nicely and made a 15 footer. Sooner had blocked his tee shot OB so the pressure was off.
Not a great score for me, 85, but it could have been much worse given my start. Much of my slop was in setup stuff... bad alignment that I realized as soon as I saw the blocked shot taking off... :-(
but I hit some decent balls. I'm encouraged. Haven't played a proper round since well before Christmas. Good to get back out, and with a top guy, a credit to GR, and a much nicer fellow than most of you basterds.

Nice work Dave.
You are going to have to stick up for Sooner against the Mizzie haters. Edgey is on his case already and it is BRUTAL!
I chose the road less traveled.
Now where the f#ck am I?

Dave, why did Sooner have such high scores on the Par 5's?

Good for you guys! It sounds alot like FD's and my round. Probably as with most of us we would find the shite talking, ball busters we appear to be on the forum in reality is not how we really are......

blocked one OB off the tee on one of 'em, put two in the same water hazard on another.. when it rains, it pours, as they say..

Sooner got on a sort of mental downward spiral after the first few holes.. but he's got a lot of good golf in him, even if some of it is with that chibbler thing. :-) And I'll say again, when he is loose and has good tempo, he blasts the ball... hits it way past me..
Me, I just haven't played in so long, I forgot simple stuff like lining up.. I must have missed six greens to the right for no good reason, hit the ball well but in the wrong direction.... and my tempo was for sheite too...
I hit a couple of three woods off the deck today and both went REALLY well... but the course was too long to be using a three wood off the tee...

Sounds like he needs to revisit my Par 5 strategies thread.

I concede that point, especially since a couple of these Par 5s were into the wind. I started off using good game management such as hitting my 4 wood off the tee on Par 4s because I am more consistent with it at hitting the fairways. But, then I started growing hair on my balls and thinking I needed to hit the driver more . . . . . .

Here's the SoonerBS stress factor-- he tightens up over the ball and gets a bit fast, but the hardest part is, his hands get tight and force the clubshaft to point right of the hole at the top.
when he does this, the club must first get itself BACK into the line of his swingplane before it goes back down to the ball... and his tension prevents this from entirely happening, with the result that his impact is from outside to in and he mostly hits a big pull from that.
when he swings relaxed, his clubshaft is pointing quite a bit more toward the target at the top.... and he hits a long, fairly low flight but VERY STRAIGHT ball.
He's long with the irons, REALLY long off the tee, and when he's relaxed he's very consistent.
But as he says, it's a mind thing. Nobody understands this better than me... :-) I would shoot 75 every day in practice when I was on the college team, but 85 in every tournament. PRESSURE. I hate it.

As much shite as I will likely catch, Dave, if you run across any video that shows my flaw, please post it so I can see it and learn from it. Thanks in advance . . . .

I think I have it in one shot you pulled.. I"ll freeze frame it so they don't get to watch the result.. :-) that should slow down some of the sheite..
the video I have ready is uploaded but my site is taking their time to convert it.. it isn't all the stuff I shot, but enough to give these basterds a good idea of how much fun they should have been having instead of us.. maybe some of them will get the message and move to Texas or Oklahoma.
I know, clmax, you're already down here, and good on ya for that. :-)
thanks again BTW for the fast and good work keeping these basterds up to date.. I think I might have shot four strokes better if I was paying attention to my alignment instead of texting you.

It was a pleasure Dave. I'd be happy to join you guys if it suits my schedule and it's not in a foreign land.

most excellent.. although Oklahoma is sort of foreign... once I crossed the border, strangely built casinos dominated the landscape and I smelled poop. But those aren't deal-breakers for a worldly fellow such as myself.

Would you two get a room. Anyhoo Sooner or Dennis prior to setting up on the ball grab the club and squeeze he sh it out of the club stressing your hands and forearms. Then take your normal setup and stance. You will notice less tension in your hands. Tight hands and forearms will promote an OTT move. this is my swing flaw and I have 30 years of experience.
I think you need to get some game improvement irons(mx 23's). The clubs you are playing belong in single digit handicap players hands. Groove you swing bring your scores down to single numbers and then get them out of the closet. Remember how Dave waxed you a ss. Edgey is right in a way your a double digit hacker playing scratch golfer equipment.
Lastly a 97 under pressure on a unfamiliar course screams game improvement.

P.S I hope your not a sports shrink.

Hi
Congrats on the win Dave
What handicaps did you play off respectively
Sooner, i have a spare set of Callaway BB2002, i may set up a poll. GHD is right, you are a 20+ handicap golfer playing 3 handicap equipment.
Blades need a repeating solid swing, anything less will always lead to inconsistant golf and 97's
Thats as nice as i get

we didn't play off any caps. Sooner carries a 13 at his home course, I haven't played enough to have one anywhere. I"m sure I'd be 10 or more at this stage. I hit topped shots, fat shots, hooks and slices yesterday... stubbed chips, yanked 3 footers. If I'd practice, and play once a week like I used to, I'd be back to a six or five. A few years ago a typical month's scores would be 78-81-79-80.. with occasional 76 thrown in to tease me. Haven't given game this any time at all recently, though.
and I"ll say it again, if he had bagged Burners or X18s yesterday his score would have been the same. He hits the Mizzies well when he swings well.

Hey PKY, you gonna be in South Carolina or Georgia in the near future or even over the summer some time? If so, let's get an 'official' GR match scheduled...

Handicaps are for women and Englishmen of which neither Dave and I are, so we played straight up like real men.
