    Tight Lies 7 fairway wood

This past winter my 97 year old florida neighbor gave me his Tight Lies 7 wood, claiming he had no success with it. I make the occaisional solid hit with it but for the most part it just seems not to work. I showed it to a local club maker who claims it's a great club with a great shaft (original) !
The club length is identical to my calloway 7 wood which I have amazing success with. I still suspect the shaft is the culprit. But there is nothing to indicate whether it's a stiff, xstiff or regular or senior.
Any one have any ideas on how to go about checking its stiffness?
    Thanks

Take it to a clubmaker and have him do a frequency count on it.

    Tight Lies 7 Fairway wood

Thanks Jeff, the club maker I talked to did not have the equipment to perform this test and the only other clubmaker has closed his shop!
    For others tuning in the shaft is identified as follows;
ADAMS vmi Super Shaft frequency Matched filament wound
    VMI weighting and Balancing technology
    Pat No. 5,318,296
There are 5 x 1/8 inch white bars close to the heel of the shaft.
I'll keep looking for a club maker who can do the frequency test.

Kamima, it's a 12 year old club that was never anything special to begin with. Besides, it's a 7 wood. If you go out of your way to reshaft a 12 year old POS 7 wood, you might as well quit the game and take up crossdressing.

If you are already having success with the Callaway club, why would you go to the trouble of reshafting the Adams club?!
Just because someone gave it to you doesn't mean you're obligated to play it.
    Seldom right, never in doubt......

Some years ago a guy whose business, equipment and real estate I was appraising for his Chapter 7 Trustee insisted that I take gratis a relatively new Tight Lies 3 wood. Not wanting to insult the guy who was trying to maintain his dignity while he was in the process of losing his business in bankruptcy, I took the club which was just about new and worth $100-$150 used. I took it to the range and hit some balls off mats. It felt solid but the balls went high and about as far as my 6 irons. Well, I thought, it should be better off grass with a good ball, right? Wrong. Hit it after a good drive on the par 5 #1 hole off a TIGHT LIE in the fairway and that turdwood hit the ball about straight up. A couple of holes later, good lie in light rought and I put the best swing on it I was capable of and the head slid almost all the way under the ball and it went about 70 yards high and 20 yards down the fairway. Worst POS club I ever had in the bag. The reason the 97 year old gave it away wasn't because he was too old to play anymore, it was that after 97 years he knew crap when he had it in his hand. Sell on it Craigslist, give it away, put it in the trash but DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLAY IT. If your Callaway is good to you, keep it. Remember, anything that reads "Tight Lies" is crap.

    Tight Lies 7 Fairywood wood

Horseballs you are a genius...you have just put the whole issue at rest. I was wrapped up in a 97 year old neighbor and the issue was ...this club is passe.
Thanks for waking me up...the club is going to the next garage sale!!!
    Enough already!

    Tight Lies 7 Fairway wood

You're absolutely right! I was mostly thinking about how to handle this 97 year old great guy who gave me the club. It is what it is, an outdated old club. I'll just deal with it when I meet him in the late Fall. Thanks to all of you for waking me up to this reality.

Well, its not really so trivial if you're absolutely obsessed with the game like many of us here seem to be. I've bought so many used clubs over the years from drivers, fairway woods and wedges, especially wedges, that I really really wanted to like and frankly, most of them ended up disappointing me BIG TIME. Then I found this website with its reviews and forum and learned an awful lot in a relatively short time. The most valuable lesson I learned was to read all the reviews about stuff I'm interested in that might make my game better before I pull the trigger and trade the greenbacks for the stuff. Reading all the reviews and chats on other golf forums about equipment and reconciling a purchase decision is a little like intelligence analysts sorting through thousands of hours of phone tap transcripts and hidden mic tapes and accounts of foreign agents on the ground. Somewhere there's truth in all the mountains of garbled garbage.

You need to aim for the part of the fairway that has the shortest grass, thereby giving you a tight lie. The club only works off tight lies. Larry can show you how to hit the tight lie part of the fairway.
