    Florida Golf

    Hey Guys,

I am travelling to Florida is February 2011 with my family and myself and the brother-in-law are going to play a few courses (maybe 7) around the Orlando area which is where we are staying.

I know there are heaps of American friends on here so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations in terms of courses.

I already have an idea but if you guys could tell me which Orlando (or near) courses you really like that would be great.

    Thanks

The Disney courses should still be good. It was 25 years ago that I played the Palm and Magnolia courses and they were superb. Didn't get over to Lake Buena Vista but heard that is excellent as well. Ten years ago we stayed near Orlando for a week and I got out and played some decent local municipal courses that lacked imagination but were in decent condition and really inexpensive. Surf the net, read some reviews and you should be good to go for great golf.

    Thanks Mongrel,

Yes I have pretty much looked at all my options and made some "pencilled" in decisions but I just want some local knowhow to guide me!

I'm a bit of a golf pervert so I will leave no stones unturned haha :-)

Well, my advice may not be so good to heed because I'm biased. If I'm in Florida, it will be between January and March in the height of the geese infestation (those are the northerners who fly south for the winter, just to give you a colloquial heads-up) and I will not suffer 5 hour rounds unless someone else is paying for my golf that day. So I will gladly choose a course that may not be in pristine condition and may be utilitarian in design and one that I can get around in 4 hours or so. Ironically, these will usually be cheaper muni's with conscientious rangers keeping the sheep moving. If you've got private club connections, you may be able to get on some of those in Florida and those will be very nice.
