    Star Ranch Showdown Pre-Game Hootenanny

We're about a week away from the FD vs. Big Dave match. I will list my implements of war:

Ping Eye 2 irons: 3-PW (4 iron excluded)
    Ping Eye 2 SW
    Ping M/B 52 Wedge
Cobra Baffler DWS #2 18 Degree with stock Aldila S graphite.
    Cobra Baffler DWS #4 23 Degree " "
Callaway Steelhead 3+ 13 Degree w/ Callaway RCH 99 Firm.
Callaway Hyper X Tour Driver, Fujikura 360 "S" stock shaft.
    Ping Ally 2 putter

The putter may change between now and next week. I don't know the outcome of the match...but I shall give it my best.

I changed the topic once I realized that I had posted it in Golf Discussion. No wonder I couldn't delete it. You had already responded.

FD what's up with the 52* wedge? I thought they weren't necessary with the eye2 set up. I'm glad you are using the PINGs. It wouldn't seem right any other way.

I like hitting chips and pitches better with the M/B wedge. I may be replacing the Ping Eye 2 SW with the Ping M/B 58 degree wedge. You are correct that since the Ping Eye 2 PW is 50 degrees there really isn't much benefit to a 52 degree gap wedge, unless you just like the look....which I do.

I'm sticking with the legendary Big Dave Satchel o' Weapons listed below. only change has been to the new cannon, the 8.5* X flex HiBore XLS. I have not taken it to the course yet, so surprises could ensue, good or bad.

    My understanding is that Ping:

    a) has closed down all manufacturing in Arizona
    b) is now 100% Chinese-made
    c) the price points haven’t moved despite the lower cost of manufacturing

Sound like Republican policy to me…

Is there any chance that you will stop playing mid handicap choppers (Sooner, you know who you are...) without giving them the shots they should have.

Your victorys have the smell of Tiger Woods gloating he has beaten me off scratch. NO SHITE SHERLOCK, NO GLORY THERE!!

Come on Dave stop duffing up choppers and play under the handicap system. THEN you might feel the need for PING

Beating choppers without giving them their shots is a biatch move

Edgey, I am not a mid handicap chopper and I don't need strokes from Dave. We're pretty even when it comes to our games.

Agreed, in your case this is true. My point is that him beating a 97 shooter like Sooner without giving him shots is not something real men would mention in mixed company.

I have no doubt that had you have used K15 irons and Driver that day our resident big man would not have won. Remember even Tiger loses the occasional game.

They had to close down manufacturing in the US to be competitive with the other brands. If it wasn't for the liberal policies of the democrats that favor unemployment insurance, benefits, disability, high taxes, minimum wage and mandatory insurance then Ping could probably continue to manufacture in Arizona. Democrats favor Unions that destroy a company's ability to remain competitive.

My Ping Eye 2s were made right here in America. I play them because I'm proud. What do you play and where was it made?

Has it ever occurred to your that good golfers like Lorenzo, Horseballs and Poe4soul are good golfers that play blades.

Or that 12 handicap hacks like myself wouldn't shoot any lower with PING shovels?

It's not the irons where I lose my shots, it's wayward drives, duffed chips and missed putts that cost me the most strokes.

i5's made in USA... B60 Putter USA, for that matter I have a recent Cannondale Bicycle made in US (of course no more, Cannondale closed it's PA operation last 2 years).

If it helps you to blame our manufacturing problems on our 12% unionization rate, go ahead. It was 30% before Reagan achieved his goal of breaking the unions. Europe is 50%. 1980-2010 Unionization goes from 30% to 12% while upper management gets 30-fold increases in salary, and all the jobs STILL go to China.

One more... Motorola was never a union shop, didn't stop a lot of my well-trained friends from Western NY losing their jobs to China. No union involved there dude...

I'm actually an independent and believe there is little difference between Coke and Pepsi (Dem and GOP)... so don't worry, we are still friends ;-)

I played a full set of PING G5's, Driver, 3 wood, hybrid and irons and shot 84.

The Driver, 3 wood and hybrid were good clubs. The irons, aside from being oversize monstrosities with massive offset performed fine on full swings but were horrible on feel or touch shots around the green. Hard, dead and unresponsive. They made my R7 TP's feel like Miura forgings.

Sooner shot lower rounds than I did this summer, considerably lower. Maybe I need to play more.. my stroke avg this year is between 82 and 83.. I've only been out about a half dozen times..

at any rate, Sooner will get his strokes from me in our next match...

and as for FD, he can take care of himself on the golf course.

even with garden implements in his bag. :-)

You could always research independents. Whatever you do don't vote for the incumbent. All incumbents are tainted...any incumbent who voted for a bailout deserves nothing, and will likely remain a shill for the big/dirty money that got him/her elected. This election is not about getting things done, its about sending a message.

Here is a little something I came across last night:
Taleb's ten principles for a black swan robust world

Taleb enumerates ten principles for building systems that are robust to Black Swan Events:[10]

1-What is fragile should break early while it is still small. Nothing should ever become Too Big to Fail.
2-No socialisation of losses and privatisation of gains.
3-People who were driving a school bus blindfolded (and crashed it) should never be given a new bus.
4-Do not let someone making an "incentive" bonus manage a nuclear plant – or your financial risks.
    5-Counter-balance complexity with simplicity.
6-Do not give children sticks of dynamite, even if they come with a warning.
7-Only Ponzi schemes should depend on confidence. Governments should never need to "restore confidence".
8-Do not give an addict more drugs if he has withdrawal pains.
9-Citizens should not depend on financial assets or fallible "expert" advice for their retirement.
10-Make an omelette with the broken eggs.
    ----http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_swan_theory----

All of this should be common sense, but our political leaders have done the exact opposite.

You must have been swinging poorly that day because Ping G5's feel like forged when struck well. Actually, they feel superior to forged. There's a common misconception amongst better golfers that forged is where you eventually end up. The truth is that the truly enlightened player realizes that forged blades are not a destination. Rather, they are one of many destination points that lead toward Ping irons. Haven't you noticed that people who play Ping irons seem more together and more confident? It's as if they're done with living the lie and have decided to play the best.

Sounds like he has too much time on his hands. I've always wondered about those people that put tons of bumper stickers on their cars or do things like you mentioned above. Why do they need to broadcast their beliefs. It's one thing to tout Ping golf clubs but to worry about elections is just stupid.

Nice price considering I paid $700 new. I have CS Lite stiff and have been pretty happy. I didn't bother with the cushion inserts (you have to check on that, it adds weight and changes feel). You are looking at 30-40% less offset but a stronger loft when you move from Eye 2 to i5. I played the Eye 2's and think the i5 is a modern lofted less-offset version. Great contact feel. I really like the long irons... so easy to hit well. Now that I am pushing 40 and past golf prime, it's nice to have long irons that go the distance they are supposed to. My track has several long par 3's where the 2-3-4 i5's prove their worth.

One day if I have the resources, I may try some Nippons with Decade grips. Or maybe just find a cheap set like yours with them already installed for a spare set…

I agree. While I agree with his sentiment the fact that he took the time to do it is crazy. Can you imagine taking a day off or wasting a Saturday to protest something or go to a rally?! Let's see, go play golf or stand in a crowd and hold a sign.

I've never understood the people that wait around to see famous people. I just don't get it. I once saw Kurt Russel at a public golf course and I made a point of it to not look at him. Meanwhile, my idiot playing partner runs up to him and says "Hey, Kurt Russel". He made sure that he shook Kurt's hand and said a few things that I'm sure Kurt could care less about. It's kind of neat to see famous people but I can't imagine trying to talk to one of them because you know they just want you to go away.

OK, I've made the tee times for the match next Friday, Oct. 29th at Star Ranch Golf Club in Hutto, TX. YEEEEHAAAWWW Dawggy!!! I can't wait to go see me some Longhorns and have a big 'ol steak at dinner and talk about guns and stuff!!!

Seriously, the tee time is at 7:30am and we'll be a whompin' and a whuppin' everything we see in sight! I'll be a gettin' to the course around 6:45 am for a big plate of eggs, bacon, country potatoes and toast and then head out to the range to hit some balls with my Ping shovels. Here's a photo of the course and a scorecard.

I think we need to leave it up to the GR masses to tell us what tees to play. Why don't y'all take a gander and let us know whatcha' think.

Come on Dave stop duffing up choppers and play under the handicap system. THEN you might feel the need for PING

Beating choppers without giving them their shots is a biatch move

No offense taken, Edgey. I consider "low handicappers" to be those who shoot in the 70s on a regular basis and I am not even close to there yet.

I don't mean to change the subject, Edgey, but don't you lads know that running submarines is for deeper water exploits and not for sunning on Scotland beaches?

You'll take shite for it, but I would play the blues. I don't know if I've ever seen that big of a gap between the blue and black tees. Every course should have a set of tees in the 6500 to 6800 yard range. If you can't consistently hit 280ish 7K yards gets to be no fun after awhile.

That one stung a little, didn't it, Edgey? I can tell by the way you opened up a grand flaming campaign against me in other threads.

Not to worry none, 'ole chap, we Yankees would love to give you Englishmen driving lessons so that the dreadfully embarrassing event doesn't happen again. Of course, we could start by putting the steering wheel on the proper side of the submarine . . . . .

I doubt it stung as much as some of the mishits you get from the Mizuno MP-52s. Oh hell I'm just kidding. So, do you think we should play the black tees or the blue tees? We need more input than just Homeslice. That's only one person so far.

7k really needs at least 250. 280 is nice, but you can get by as long as you're over 250. There appear to be some stout par 4's there though. Do you get a good amount of rollout on your tee shots in Texas?

Yeah. Even from the blues, the par 4 play long for a 6300 yrd course.

Just play all of the par 3's and 5's from the tips everything else from the blue tees.

But honestly you get 3 to 4 strokes played back at the tips. In my opinion a 117 index could be boring. 130 is a better test.

The last course we played we didn't get any roll at all and this tee time is at 7:30am so we'll probably get very little roll. Even so, it might be fun to play the back tee at over 7,000 yards.

Well, that solves it. We're playing the back tees. Better bring both hybrids.

what does this have to do with running nuclear subs aground?

    :-)

I wish I could shoot in the 70s. I used to do that. Maybe FD will be the victim of my return to the 70s.

About as much as they have to do with Sooner being a mid handicap chopper. I didnt start the strange underwater analogy. Ask the niblick carrying Mizuno pseud

I'm only having you on a bit.. :-)

but it's not a strange analogy.. he's referring to news reports today of a British nuke sub stranded at low tide in a bay somewhere, Scotland I think.. they were dropping off crewmen and ran aground..

and he only carries the chibbler in winter when there's not enough grass to be comfy with a wedge..

You have "internet" verification of shooting in the 70's, not video. For all we know you are just another alias of GHD who wears a skirt and fondles your little brother whenever your mommy and daddy aren't looking. There are four players on this forum with video verification and a legitimate right to boast what they shoot. Why should we believe an Englishman?

    We want video verification of your wife's EEs, too . . . . .

Go shoot a 62 tomorrow, Edgey, hell, you could, as long as you post it instead of showing video. You da virtual man, Edgey!!

So you're saying Big Dave has taken the mantle of GR's resident Kenny Perry?

You are getting confused Edgey. This is the real world GR. In the bizaro world GR Pings would be legit, lessons would be the best way to learn how to swing, Lovetts would be considered players wedges, and painting your clubs and putting covers on your irons would be the height of fashion (not that all things aply to you, just saying). On second thought that could also be Shottalk or WRX. In any case, this is GR, and around here the only way to be a man is to get a set of GFF blades and dig a swing out of the dirt. And not be caught dead with a Ping iron in your bag, or even in the bag of anyone in your group.
