Who is the last poster in many threads?

Duh! When Alan Baker posts, that ends it for most of us. I bail out and apparently so do most others. NOBODY wants to debate or even try to politely exchange ideas with someone we all perceive to be a moron.

And it is the same in other forums, the few where he has not been permanently banned. Just look at the threads and notice who the last poster is. Days or even weeks later NOBODY has posted after Alan Baker posts. Why doesn't he get the hint and go away??

This is a great golf topic. Maybe Alan Baker's posts are so "to the point" and thoughtful that there is no need for further discussion.

Sorry, Larry, but how does this follow your rules? You remember: not making personal attacks, etc.

And how is this on topic for a forum for golf discussion?

Oh, and Larry. Just to let you know: you can tell who the last poster in every thread is simply by looking at the "Last Post" column! Currently, counting this one, I'm the last poster in just 2 of more than 50 threads. I'm only telling you this stuff because I doubt you're bright enough to have figured it out on your own. Consider it a favour. ;)

Or maybe it's just that Larry is the second to last poster on a lot of threads.

Seriously: I'd really like to know.
I find Larry's posts to be informative, well-constructed and humorous. His infallable logic is intimidating to many people, but I find his very presence to be an intellectual challenge, not unlike the Rubics Cube we all so adored. I find it comforting to know there is a wise grandfatherly figure to help us through our golfing and non-golfing journeys. Canadian basement dwellers are a dime a dozen, but pure genius is rare.

I'm often the last poster on a thread. Then someone else posts. And so it continues...

I see this thread becoming bigger than anything in the history of GR. A good old "who can stop a derailed train" sort of thread.

BTW Larry, you don't ever get the last word on the internet because you're an idiot. It's like rule #1 in the Internet For Dummies book.

A Larry thread hitting 300 would barely raise an eyebrow around here. I'm thinking at least 400. Why don't we start a book on how high it will be on a given future date. Of course if we do that there will have to be a maximum number of posts allowed per member each day, or someone will post a hundred meaningless threads in the last hour before the official deadline to win the contest. But then again this is a Larry thread so meaningless posts are par for the course.

I'm guessing 345 by close of business on Jan 30. I don't have any reason why I chose 345, I just thought it was a regular average sort of number after reading some reviews in the driver section.

You guys are pathetic. I expected a little more from you than to think there's accomplishment in something so completely meaningless. So grow up, stop embarrassing yourselves and get a life.

When you address Larry you must remember to include the words "Handball A-level Player". Most of us don't know what that means but I'm sure it's important in the increasingly-popular sport of handball.

I'm guessing some of you enjoy Analytical Chemistry almost as much as me. But have you given any thought recently to the effect of noise on some of your measurements?

One of the most important components of analytical chemistry is maximizing the desired signal while minimizing the associated noise. The analytical figure of merit is known as the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N or SNR).

Noise can arise from environmental factors as well as from fundamental physical processes.

Thermal noise results from the motion of charge carriers (usually electrons) in an electrical circuit generated by their thermal motion. Thermal noise is white noise meaning that the power spectral density is constant throughout the frequency spectrum.

The root mean square value of the thermal noise in a resistor is given by

    v_{{RMS}} = \sqrt { 4 k_B T R \Delta f },

where kB is Boltzmann's constant, T is the temperature, R is the resistance, and Δf is the bandwidth of the frequency f.
    [edit] Shot noise
    Main article: Shot noise

Shot noise is a type of electronic noise that occurs when the finite number of particles (such as electrons in an electronic circuit or photons in an optical device) is small enough to give rise to statistical fluctuations in a signal.

Shot noise is a Poisson process and the charge carriers that make up the current follow a Poisson distribution. The root mean square current fluctuation is given by[15]

    i_{{RMS}}=\sqrt{2\,e\,I\,\Delta f}

where e is the elementary charge and I is the average current. Shot noise is white noise.

Flicker noise is electronic noise with a 1/ƒ frequency spectrum; as f increases, the noise decreases. Flicker noise arises from a variety of sources, such as impurities in a conductive channel, generation and recombination noise in a transistor due to base current, and so on. This noise can be avoided by modulation of the signal at a higher frequency, for example through the use of a lock-in amplifier.
    [edit] Environmental noise
Noise in a thermogravimetric analysis; lower noise in the middle of the plot results from less human activity (and environmental noise) at night.

Environmental noise arises from the surroundings of the analytical instrument. Sources of electromagnetic noise are power lines, radio and television stations, wireless devices and electric motors. Many of these noise sources are narrow bandwidth and therefore can be avoided. Temperature and vibration isolation may be required for some instruments.

Noise reduction can be accomplished either in hardware or software. Examples of hardware noise reduction are the use of shielded cable, analog filtering, and signal modulation. Examples of software noise reduction are digital filtering, ensemble average, boxcar average, and correlation methods.

I hope this has been interesting and illuminating for you.

I've always been a proponent of less noise. Here's a question for you all: What's noisier? A dinasour or no dinasour?

    Very interesting stuff.

You might consider taking your measurements in a Faraday cage. I personally like to sleep in a Faraday cage...that way the government can't bombard me with x-rays from spy satellites...well I'm probably not important enough to x-ray, but it can still keep wireless signals and the earths own radiant energy from bombarding me at night.

Though not legal anymore, heavy coats of lead paint used to help cut down on the excess electro-magnetic wave interference. You can still buy medical grade lead backed drywall, but its a bit on the heavy side.

That being said, why is this Larry the one who seems to start shyt on this forum? I have been on here off and on for about a year, and I enjoy reading it. Did you know that many in the creationist movement don't believe in dinosaurs...or that man and dinosaur lived together less than 5000 years ago.

Yes, despite concrete, scientific evidence proving that they never co-existed. In fact the timelines are millions of years apart. Some people think the earth was created in 7 days. To argue either way is pointless because those who believe in the 7 day theory will say that all of this scientific evidence is simply a way of testing our faith. Science and religion do not mix.

Well Drew, there's a new sheriff in town and his name is PKY7374something. He is the new king of the massive thread. His genius is that his threads aren't inflammatory or even interesting, and he does it all without the assistance of a basement dwelling Canadian stalker. He's had a thread about fat shots turn into a music an entertainment thread that exceeded 300 posts, a thread on 3/4 swings that got over 100 posts discussing handball of all things, and his latest is a thread about Gary Player that digressed into a chat about bowel movements. He is the new century master. We should bump his threads and shut this one down for good.

I especially like the down for sound ball that hangs between ones legs. Endorsed by the maker of the 135 dollar pivot for power training aid. Looked at his site and never saw one comment from a user liking the product. Hell, even the Hammer has people talking about his products on video.

When you address Larry you must remember to include the words "Handball A-level Player". Most of us don't know what that means but I'm sure it's important in the increasingly-popular sport of handball
Coming from Iceland I must defend the sport of handball. The world cup just started yesterday and as a result of your insults towards handball, I demand that you root for ICELAND! This is kind of our national sports and we call the team "our boys". It is really remarkable that a country of only 300.000 people are one of the top 5 nations in handball. We got the silver medal at the last olympics and a bronze medal at the European championship. Going for gold at he world cup obviously.

Yeah, it can be tough to get through winter but I use that time to do some clubhoing to make up for the lack of playtime. It kind of saves me that I work every other week and I can spend 5 days of my week off on the golfcourse. Another thing is that over summer we have daylight almost 24/7. It's GREAT to play midnight golf when the wind has calmed and you are maybe all alone on the course. Nothing bothers you then....except for those dang snap hooks

The volcano? Which one of them? There are a lot of them here There were 2 volcanic eruptions last year alone. About the corruption....that is so wrong. We're in the middle of the worst econimical crysis in Iceland's history because of a few bankers and our government.

Oldplayer, I'd love to send you a plane ticket but I'm not a rich man by any means
The altitude won't increase the length of your drives, our town (Akureyri) is by the sea and the golfcourse is by the hillside of a mountain just 5 minutes away from the center of town.

Well, loans were taken from the IMF and a few countries and things look better than first feared. There are some very important assets Iceland has, so hopefully these loans will save us. Our economical system is small so it's easier for us to get out of this situation than it would be for a bigger country. For an Icelander the main difference now is that things cost a lot more than they did a few years ago. Golf equipment for excample is VERY expensive. I guess that clubs today cost 100% more than they did in 2007. Thank god for ebay

Well, it looks great imo but I'm sorry to say I haven't hit it. I just took a chance on that one and bought it new for about 40$ plus shipping. I think I can't lose really Damn snow covers everything and my back problems are hindering me from hitting it from a mat indoors. That might change in the next few weeks though. I'll let you know if I can take it for a spin....

Only a few weeks to go and not even 100 yet. This thread had better get a move on if we are going to even be in the ball park. We need divine intervention, like Fred to come out from under his rock, to get interest back in this turkey and get it up to 300.

As KC and the Sunshine band would sing: "Don't stop it now, stop you know you know, stop it now, stop it. Don't stop it now, stop you know you know, stop it now"

"I'm a rocket ship on my way to Mars..". Great song. I was a big fan before they came out with Radio Ga Ga. Queen at Live Aid in 1985 was one of the best performances I've ever seen. They stole the show.

It wasn't in the US. That song was very popular in England when it came out but not here in America. It became popular when Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was released. We Will Rock You was huge in the U.S. back in, I guess, 1978.

It seems that we Brits were culturally way ahead of you colonial types then :-)

I'll agree to this, on one condition.

HS must beat me to 2K posts.

That gives him about half an hour or so.

I think Wayne's World was more responsible for the American popularity of Bohemian Rhapsody than any adventure Bill and Ted may have had, excellent or not.

Good lookin' out, Zo, but now that you've exiled yourself from the throne, these ruffians are less likely to abide. And FON, I just don't have it in me today for a triple digit post count so I must cede the honors. And FD, yes Queen rules. When I first started becoming aware of music,"Anotherone Bites the Dust" was ubiquitous so my folks bought me "The Game" on cassette. It was my first full length album and I wore it out. I'm lucky I ended up straight listening to that much Freddie at a young impressionable age.
(for the record, Zo, I get that you are totally cock blocking me on this. Well played.)

Well this is disappointing. I was looking forward to a frenzied HS posting rampage.

Larry should be the one to offer congrats since he was a B level player for 10 years. Or so he says just like he is a single digit handicap.
