    Finally achieved my goal!

Well, folks - my goal of breaking 90 has been met. Was on track for 89 until 18 when I drove into the woods. Managed to find the ball in-bounds, pulled my 7 iron and put it within 1 foot of the fringe of the green. Took my 8 iron for a little bump and run but came up about 25 feet short. At that point, my only hope for an 89 round was to sink this 25 footer. Sunk it!!!! 45 on front and 44 on back. Started playing in August of 2004....

MY story is remarkably similar...my putt was about 25 feet too (for par, no less), but down she went.

About a week after that I shot an 84 on a course that was about 5600 yards (about 500 yards shorter), and after that it's been back to the mid 90s for me. I have been switching over to a more one-plane swing in that time, but still, I found myself slipping away from the things I'd been doing to score well and only recently had reversed that trend.

Moral of the story: you broke 90 because you were doing some things right...don't get let the confidence you're building make you forget to keep doing them.

    Congrats!

Mathematically, to break 90 you just have to get more pars than double bogeys, and no triples or worse. It takes a fairly consistent round to break 90.
    Congratulations.

    congrats!

congratulations! and take warriorpoet's story to heart... don't quit doing what you did to meet your goal, but also, don't get discouraged if you don't get under 90 consistently now... you will soon.

I just started playing earlier this year after many years of not playing. My goal was to break 80, which I finally did a a couple months ago. In that same round, I sprained my hand badly and had to take a break for a while to let it heal. I'm now struggling to get back to the low 80's!

    Patience and practice!
    Richard
