Question Question for Irish golfers on here

I'll be in Dublin in September for the Ryder Cup & am looking to play a round the following week at a course nearby (in addition to playing the K-club itself, which I've already arranged).

I've read good things about Portmarnock, Mount Juliet & the European Club... anybody played any of these? Also, I'm staying near the K-Club, so proximity is a plus! ;-)

    Thanks.

Carton House is a top course that is nearby. The Irish Open was held last year and will be held this year on the Montgomorie course there. Mount Juliet is fabulous as a parkland, and likewise Portmarnock is stunning as a links. No doubt you'll enjoy them no matter where you play.

    Hire Car

If you have a hire car, do the two links in the north...they rock. Royal County Down (Just don't expect a pint in the clubhouse) and Royal Portrush, you get the added bonuses of getting to visit the Giants causway and slieve gullion!!

Carton House is within half an hour, not too sure but no more than that. Haven't been up in that part of the country in a long time

I live about 15 minutes drive from the K club. Carton house is about 10 minutes drive from there and has 2 courses - The Montgomerie which is an inland links style course. Its a real challenge in that it requires good ballstriking to stay out of the dozens of deep and vicous bunkers. I've played it a good few times and always enjoyed it but it's not for anyone with a higher handicap than 14. If you tend to spray the ball i'd avoid it as it's not as enjoyable. The other course is the o'meara and its more of a standard parkland, with a lot of influence from Augusta on some of the holes. Both have excellent conditioning and would be on a par with the K club for quality.

Depending on exactly where you are staying there are lots of places to recommend but you should be aware that mount juliet is nearly a two hour drive from dublin, assuming you know where you are going and 3 plus hours to the other 2 courses in the north. Pm me and let me know your arrangments and i'll recommend somewhere practical for you.
