    Putting blind

I keep hearing that you should avoid watching the ball after putting and listen for it to drop in the cup instead.

I can understand not watching until you have completed your follow through but shouldn't you look up at some time to follow the ball path. How else are you going to make corrections later?

Reasonably, just wait for the ball to be about 2-3' away, so you can't do any last minute hand movements to screw things up. Then obviously you want to see what happened. The "wait until it drops" is a bit over the top, IMHO. It is simply to stress that you don't want to look up prematurely, which often leads to a pulled putt.
    Seldom right, never in doubt......

It shows that you trust yourself and your putting stroke if you don't look up until it drops

    Thats good but

How do I determine what my mistake was if I can not see the path the ball actually travels? I understand if the ball is on the right side of the cup that it went right. Did I push it? Did I misread it? Did it lip out and it roll right?

Maybe some day. If you have a 20 foot put how long do you wait
