Question Sumo Squared Diamana vs. Aldila shafts

Putting aside the conformance issue, for those who have demoed the Sumo Squared, how would you compare the Diamana versus the Aldila " By You" shafts specifically to this driver in regular flex (if possible) ? Thanks

    Don't confuse the...

..."stock" Diamana shaft Nike ships with their clubs with the real, Tour-Spec Diamana shafts that top-level golfers have been using for the past few seasons. The SQ Diamana shafts are "stock" shafts, not at all comparable to a good, let alone great, aftemarket shaft like the Diamana Boad-series or the Aldila NV-series. Check out http://mitsubishirayongolf.com/ to see what the REAL Diamana shafts look like as well as what their specs are, etc.

I currently use a 2006 Nike SQ Tour Driver, 9.5 degree with a stiff Diamana Blue Board 63 shaft. The shaft alone is worth $250.00 retail...and, IMHO, is worth every penny!

As to how the stock SQ Diamana shaft in the Sumo compares to the NV Blue-By-You shaft, the upgraded shaft will be more stable (less twisting), smoother at impact (less harsh) and will probably play more true as far as flex rating goes. Legnth would be a toss up, however, since the Aldila shaft will have a higher kickpoint, which may make it more difficult to launch than the softer SQ shaft.

In all honesty, the stock shafts many manufacturers are putting into their drivers do nothing to help the enthusiastic, ever-improving player. As a rule, if the shaft has the manufacturer's brand on it, ie."Diamana for Nike" or "Fujikura for _____", go ahead and get the upgrade. These stock "Made for ____" shafts are, more often than not, softer, lesser quality offerings that add nothing to the performance of the club.

Look at Titleist...they offer shafts like the UST ProForce V2 or the Graphite Design YS-6 as "stock" shafts for their newest drivers. Still other manufacturers, like Callaway, offer the NV-series as stock shaft options as well. Hopefully, more club makers will follow suit.

    Hit 'em well...
