I've seen some Maltbys I'd like to try, especially wedges.

The new Milled Wedges should be available soon. That might be one of my first building projects, although I'll be taking the Beginner Clubmaking Course at my local Golfsmith in a couple weeks. We get to keep the wedge we make, but I doubt we get to use their more pricey components...

When I start building, I plan to build 5-iron demos using numerous heads from GolfWorks including their muscle-back (MMB). I look forward to that!

Bass, AMEN Brother!!! I agree 100%
    This place needs MORE BASS!

Although not a fan of Maltby, not because of performance, but because of color schemes (I know sounds stupid). I like they're designs, for the most part, it's just their graphics don't jibe with me. I like alot of Golfsmiths designs. I own 2 sets of their irons, the P2's and the NEW G40's.

Big FAN of components here! Not clones or knock offs, but COMPONENTS.

Color schemes are personal preference, and I can understand wanting to like the appearance of the clubs you play.

There are a lot of great component designs. In fact, I was thinking of building some Hireko demos as well for those who are more budget-minded.

Funny you say this. I just sold 2 sets of Acers earlier this week. XP Pros 4-PW New in plastic and XP905 Tours 3-PW played once. Only reason was to make some room for the Dynacrafts and the G40s.

Some of the reviews for the XP Tours mentioned a problem with the welded carbon steel face. Did you have any such problems?

The Dynacrafts you have look great. As do the G-40s and P2s. The new Snake Eyes 675 series look very nice as well. Maltby MTF and MMB are on my list for demos...

I'd heard this also. I did notice a tiny bit of rust at the bottom, on the inside of the cavity on the PW and 6I. I never built them. Sold them heads only and told the buyer about it. No worries on his end. I've spoke to a few others who play them and love them rust and all and have been told it can be stopped.

BJ, if you do consider a shaft change for your G5, don't overlook Gram'an. I had never heard of Gram'an until recently. After hearing people rave about the Ultimate G series, I tried one out. I paid $110 for my UL780 and am very impressed with the quality of this shaft. The bright color took some getting used to. It's nicknamed a Limey for a reason. It's bright. I''d put Gram'an up against many of the much more expensive shafts out there. Just my opinion.

Actually I like this stock shaft a lot. It agrees with my swing apparantly. Out of 2 medium buckets of balls, there were only a handfull that I hit offline. VERY long driver.

So Bj, I noticed that you dumped the Forged 690's for some CG2's. What gives? What happened to Go Forged or Go Home? I have CG10 wedges and they feel pretty good, but they don't feel as good as my Hogans. Don't worry, I made the same mistake a little while ago when I got rid of my MP 60's and got Ping S-58's. You'll be back in no time. Everyone has a brain fart once in a while.

See my post on Pics for Kiwi thread, and no, I won't be going to back to Titleist irons. And I would sure hope you wouldn't ditch Mizuno irons for some PING cast shovels.

Sorry to hear you dropped the #1 wedges on tour for Hogans. Your loss.

    Bj,
Let me clarify. I still have my Cleveland CG10's in the bag. Yes, Cleveland does make the best wedges. I'd have no problem bagging the original 588 Chrome wedge again. I was comparing the feel of CMM to my Hogan Apex irons. Ligthen up a little. I was just given you a hard time as a fellow player of player's irons. I still think you'll go back to forged eventually though. Especially with some of the new offerings coming out from Cobra, MacGregor amd even Wilson is coming out with the FG-59. I have seen pics of the new stuff and it look svery promising. Trust me, I have a huge club ho'ing addiction.

What do you have against Hogan Apex's? I have hit plenty of forged offerings and these Hogan's are as good as any and better than most. It sucks that Callaway will probably ruin the Hogan line since they bought the company.

If I ever went back to forged it would be Mizuno. No other forged iron I've hit has the soft feel of grain flow forging. However, the CMM is extremely soft, and I will admit that I need the forgiveness. I'm sure the MP60 is an awesome iron as well, but for the price the CG2s can't be beat. I've never hit a Hogan iron.

You owe it yourself to try out a Hogan iron at least once. They have an outstanding feel. I have hit/played forged offerings from Mizuno, Hogan, Titleist, Srixon, Bridgestone, TaylorMade, MacGregor, and even Golfsmith. For me, Mizuno is #1, but Hogan a very close second. I'd say they are actually 1A. The remaining manufacturers could be placed in any order becasue none came anywhere near Mizuno or Hogan for feel. I know Miuras are out of this world, but I don't count them considering their hefty price tag. I got my 2006 Hogan Apex Blades for a crazy price. $300 in mint condition.

Bj, Is that a joke or are you seriously playing Ping Zing 2 irons now? You are all over the map. Kinda like me. A fellow club ho' extraordinair. People can knock Ping all they want. They may not like the looks, but their clubs flat out perform.

My wife purchased a Titleist Vokey Spin Milled 60* wedge today for my birthday. I almost slapped the ***** for buying me such a POS gift for my birthday.

However, she did try hard to do the right thing, so I will give it a chance to make it into the 08 bag, but I'm not happy about it!

You read my sig right. PING are in fact, POS cast shovels, but the things swing themselves. They make the game so easy it's a joke. Seeing as my playing days will be numbered with a kid and a different work schedule, I need all the forgiveness I can get. I'm still deciding between these and some Eye 2s.

The G5 driver contained so much awesomeness, that I decided to give some of their old school irons a try, I'm telling you they make some quality golf clubs. You have no feel with these irons, but when I'm last to putt on every green, I'm smiling

Hell, Tim Herron plays the Eye 2s. That model is older than he is, and he can smoke any of us.

You are basically correct. I HATE Ping equipment. None of there sh*t looks nice, but the damned things swing themselves. I finally sold my iwedges because I felt like I was swinging a wedge with a condom on the head... no feeling...no workability! Just high straight shots that made me lazy on a few swings, then I would toe one into the neighbors dining room window.

Maybe this Spin Milled POS that my wife got me yesterday will work out after all?

Haha I hear ya. I'm done spending money on golf equipment. It doesn't matter if I use a brand new set of blades (which i've used in the past) or an old set of pos cast shovels, I will shoot the same damn scores. 78-85. Everytime. I've found a driver now that I can keep in the fairway & a solid 3 wood. the two combined cost me about $160. With the pings i should be hitting a lot more greens, some days i'll swing like **** so i'll need the forgiveness. The CG2s didn't give me much forgivness on those days.

One of my good friends still plays Eye 2's. I thought about picking up a set as a back-up. A golf Pro buddy of mine swears that the Ping Zing 2, while one of the ugliest irons made, performs better than anything he has ever played. He said old man Karsten was up on the MOI business long before anyone else. He could care less how an iron looked. He only cared about performance.

Good call. I bought a set of 3DX Pro irons off ebay for my dad, $180, figured they were good enough for a couple dozen nationwide pros then they're good enough for the old fart. :-)

I've been hitting them, and these things go STRAIGHT. Really good GI irons, the pro version.. not much offset, big heads, high flight but penetrating...

they come with NIppon shafts, and these say stiff but they're softer than other stiffs I've played... but he's over 70, so it should be perfect for him...

the shafts are short, though... I guess I play long shafts in my Adams (38.25" five iron) so everything seems short to me.

Yeah yeah yeah, I knew I'd hear that the G10 hybrid is a solid club. Kind of elongated heel to toe and a shallow face. And best of all, it's not a hook machine. Sets up square. I just liked the setup of it better than the fairway wood model. And it's cheaper

I know what you mean about the i10 irons, I just can't afford them right now. When I demo'd the i/3 blades a while back they felt terrible. But the ones I demo'd had those crappy tour wrap grips and the KT-M shafts. These have tour velvets and JZ cushins. A world of difference.

    Double Gee,

Don't take this personally as this is not attack on you as a person, but as a golfer you have possibly the lamest looking bag on GR, and that takes some beating. 2 hybrids, cast SGI CB POS shovels starting at 5, and just to send the gaydar off the scale you have graphite shafts in the irons. Please tell me you don't use head covers for your irons.

Gotta agree with this one. If his bag doesn't say CHOPPER on the side of it, it wouldn't be any more obvious.

Oh BJ...I didnt see your pic....you have the same bag as mine, exactly the same

how do you find it and what do you like/dis like about it

I think the water bottle cooler is great (to bad it wasnt a bit bigger)

The zipper that allows access to inside the bag is a guensis

I like the straps how they go in and out but this is my first hoofer bag and I was a little iffy about it and how it holds up...so far so good

Just got it last week, haven't even used it yet. I can tell you it's a lot lighter than the Ogio I had. The stand retraction system is a lot better too.

Like many seniors, I prefer full length lofted metals to hybrid cleeks, and on very tight driving holes, the utility 2-iron over the high loft fairway metal. I don't get two iron distance when using the FliHi from the fairway, but will sometimes use it to intentionally hit a line drive.

As you must know, MP-14s are the last production blades made with the old school lofts. The near-identical MP-29s, which were available at the same time, had the modern lofts.

Of course, you can't just weaken the lofts of newer blades to the old school lofts because you then add bounce to the sole.

Don't let go of those irons. If they need to be refurbished....
