    Question Nickent 3DX irons

I am looking for a replacement for my X-18's. Has anyone played these irons and what was your impression? I am a club shorter wth my X-18's vs my old Titlelist 804's. I am reading alot of hype about the 3 DX's But no shop in my area has a demo club. You opinions deeply appreciated.

Gym - i bought a set 5 weeks ago;without any doubt whatsoever, they do exactly what they say !

My previous clubs were Macgregor m565s and the Snake Eyes 600XC - with those clubs i would be hitting 5 or 6 iron at the 150 yard marker .. with the 3 DX Hybrids, i am now hitting 7 iron.

Yes I know they have tinkered with the lofts.. ( but all manufacturers do that anyway) - but they work perfectly. Also, they have an incredible soft feel around the greens with the PW , 10 & 9 irons.

My only criticism is that the shorter irons do fly a little to high.. but as i get used to this, this characteristic will help me stop the ball quicker.

Finally, I have been so impressed i recently bought a Senior set for my 79 year old father (14 handicap) - although he has had them for only 2 weeks, his findings are the same as mine ..LONG LONG LONG !!!

ps - they are a beautiful looking club too ;)

I just don't get it.... long long long should be a chant for Drivers not for irons. Green after Green or "pin knocking down sum-bishes" would be more appropriate to praise irons with.

Who the hell cares how long your iron is if it's offline, inconsistent, poorly mated to a shaft etc. etc. and more etc. Irons are about feel and accuracy coupled with trajectory control and workability (or lack thereof if desired).

Glad you enjoy them, just have issues with your praise.

I had regular flex in the stock shaft - which is the UST speedrated (85mph) shaft - a damn good shaft!

As for the other 2 replies, I must assume they have not tried the clubs themselves !

And regarding the length of shot, then it is important surely to be hitting in as shorter club as possible !

i.e. between the choice of 5 or 7 iron.. whic one is easier to hit; which one is easier NOT to slice ???? .....

I didnt try other models as this is their latest and most sort after ..... and as i said before, it does exactly as advertised.

Others here maybe be ok with there length of shot, but as i get older and am less able to swing smoothly (arthritis) then I need all the help i can get ! - and believe me these are the real deal .................................

of course is important to irons too ------ would you rather hit a 5 iron or 8 iron to a pin.. which one is easier and more consistent to hit ??? no brainer in my book

Nickent is not the first manufacturer to employ "loft inflation" to make people think they are hitting their clubs farther.

Here are the specs for the Mizuno MP 60's, which have fairly typical "modern" lofts.
    http://www.mizunousa.com/equipment.n...golf&cat=irons

Here are the specs for the Nickent 3DX hybrid irons.
    http://www.nickentgolf.com/pr_ir_3dxhyb-01_2.shtml

Compare lofts on the various irons. The Nickents are about 1 - 1.5 clubs delofted vs. the Mizunos. The laws of physics haven't been revoked or revised. Calling a 34 degree club an 8 iron instead of a 7 iron doesn't make it play differently. The Nickent "5 iron" is 22 degrees; the Mizuno 5 iron is 27 degrees. Which one do you think will hit farther??????

The effect is north of the ears. If you feel more comfortable hitting a "5 iron" of 22 degrees instead of a 3 iron at 21 degrees of a 4 iron at 24 degrees, maybe it will allow you to relax and put a smoother swing on the ball.

The Nickent site didn't give shaft lengths, either. If they make the shafts 1/2" or 1" longer for the same club vs. another brand, it will also make the club hit a bit longer, at the cost of slightly increased difficulty with accuracy.

    There ain't no free lunch.........

    i understand what you say - but you have not taken into consideration a number of factrs;

one is the weight distribution of the Nickent compared to the Mizuno

another is the shaft length in other words, the club may be de-lofted, but the shafts arethus shorter and more controllable

abd finally, the confidence factor - believe me i have tried most irons (I had a set of MX 23 up until a year ago)

Try the clubs out before you 'diss' them, you may be pleasently surprised.

Don't be so defensive. I wasn't "dissing" the clubs; I was merely pointing out that the lofts are not equivalent to most other irons, so calling a club a "7 iron" may be more equivalent to an "8 iron" of a different brand. Obviously, there can be COG and MOI differences that will make them play differently, as well as differences in shaft length, weight, and flexibility.

Meet Spankdoggie, with 397 aliases. Troll extraordinaire. He'll get enough people ticked off at him using this alias, and then he'll bring out another two or three. He's best simply ignored, which I would have done if you hadn't wondered what was going on with his inappropriate attack. He's been permanently kicked off many other boards, but always comes back on this board when he forgets to take his lithium for a few days.
Despite his attempt to sound intelligent, he knows very little about golf, and has never broken 90, to the best of my knowledge.

Every now and then, someone will come on the board and bemoan that things aren't as interesting as in the "glory days". What we just had here is the "glory days" at the 1% level. Imagine that there are dozens of posts that stupid, hostile, and pointless, and there are many threads with simultaneous flame wars. That is what the "glory days" were like, and why so many good members have left the board.

On which side? It has been a few years since I "broke 100" on the wrong side.

Seriously, my index ranges between 9 and 11, depending on the season of the year and how much I've had a chance to practice and play. I have broken 80 quite a few times over the past 2 years. Last year was the first time I broke 80.

Spank, you are a pathetic loser, who in your 30's (or maybe you've even reached 40 by now) still derives pleasure and a misplaced sense of power from trolling and venting your frustrations on various members of this board. You are simply too insignificant to really worry about, so I will respond no further to your attempts to flame and troll. Good bye.

Well gang,,if you haven't tried nicket utility clubs you are missing the boat...I can't hit a 2 iron with any consistency but hit my 17* 3dx utility 225 yds I would say 75-80% perfect..and talk about dollar value WOW..I'll spend the difference where I guy should..on a good putter (guerin Rife mallet) another awesome club...
