What size grips for father-in-law?

On Father's Day, I finally convinced my father-in-law to let me take in his set of clubs for re-gripping. (Most of his clubs are over ten years old with the original grips.)

He will not go in to be fitted, but I asked him if he wanted his grips to be a bit larger than the standard grips he has used and he said yes. My question is this ... what size grips do you think I should get for him? A bit of background: he's 80 years old, hits the ball fairly well and straight. Also, he wears a cadet x-large glove as he has average length fingers, but his palms and fingers are real meaty.

It really depends what he likes but probably a mid size.

You could go to a jumbo (and any number of wraps) but remember that grip size can delay your release and cause some unwanted ball flight.

I have hudge hands (I stand 6'3") and only use a mid size. My dad has smaller hands and uses a mid size because of his arthritis. He tried a jumbo and loved the feel but he couldn't turn the ball over (which he has always played) went back to the midsize.

You might be able to take some home measurements. I think your fitter can get in the right ball park if you can give him the total hand length (top of middle finger to left wrist crease) and the length of his middle finger.
