3-Wood advice

Buying a new three wood. Love some recommendations for a low loft 3-wood. I hit the ball plenty high and usually use a stiff or X-stiff shaft.

Was hoping for preferences from others then was going to try 3 or 4 on the simulator. Already tried the Tour Edge and the R7 TP, just wondering what others liked in lower loft 3- woods.

ok fine ill humor you i like the Mizuno MP001 (and F50), Callaway X tour, and Titleist 906f2... only one of these i liked enough to put into my bag... but just listen test everything and then youll find what you like dont take other peoples word on a product form you our oppinions thats the only way youll ever like your clubs...

Taylormade V-Steels are great, in fact better than the R7 TP and like 1/4 the price. I have a Sonartec NP-99 that is 14* and its a beast. But as said above, launch monitor, do what you have to do. Go try every single fairway wood on the market. You will find the one that fits your eye.

Good zing by Dennis! What is important in a fairway wood to you? Do you hit them off the turf primarily, or as a second option off the tee? I have a deep faced Callaway GBBII that is great off the tee. Off the turf? Probably not so great. Omen's got a Cally X Tour in 13 degree that would probably be perfect for you. Shallow face and small head.
I also have the Tour Edge Exotics and it's probably not a great option if you are looking to keep the ball down.

Im way more an off the turf 3-wood player as im stupid enough to hit my ancient Ping Zing 1-iron as my "lay-up" off the tee option. I currently have no problems hitting my driver off the deck but I cant work it like a good 3-wood so ive got to upgrade over the Founders Club.

How new of a club are you looking for? If you don't mind an older club the venerable Titleist PT series gets my vote hands down. Off the deck, my PT13 is a breeze to hit long and is fabulously workable club. You find these in pretty good to outstanding condition on ebay for around $50, often times less.

Well I can recommend the Cleveland Launcher 3 wood, I average about 290 off the tee with it. If that's too much length for you, try one of the other brands.

ha, of course I'm being sarcastic, but when struck solid, I've carried ditches that were 250 out before. It's a very long club, but not the most forgiving.

Rockbottom golf has a good selection for $80. Hard to beat that price.

I actually have 4 woods. 9.5 driver, 15*, 19*, & 22*. Depending on the course setup and length, I'll swap out the 19 & 22 with the long irons. I always keep my 3 wedges though.



The driver is a classic looking 460cc head that sets up square unlike the Hibore XL. The fairways are also classic looking with real shallow heads. You have to tee them up very low just like an iron or you'll skymark the piss out of them. They are all long, solid clubs that are very appealing to the eye.

Here is who makes the best clubs in each category.

Driver: TAYLORMADE BURNER ( regular or TP)
FW: CALLAWAY ... i prefer the X TOUR 13* version ( i tend to hit the ball high )
IRONS: MIZUNO
Wedges: CLEVELAND ( TITLEIST is equally as good)
Putter: pretty much anything NOT UNITIZED.
BALL: TITLEIST

these are definitely the best stuff for lower handicappers but i feel these companies lines are equally dominant for the mid and high handicappers.

just my .02 cents.... you should definitely try the x tours.

i didnt hit my 5 wood all day... i dont really like mizuno woods... more of a mizuno irons fan i guess... they have pretty decent wedges and the bettinardi line of putters are definitely decent....

no i shot bad because i had a ho hum ballstriking day and my putting was geared for super slow greens so the super fast ones lead to a lot of 3 putts...

so avg. ball striking, so so putting, super fast greens combined with nasty pin placements and not knowing the course led to a bad score. Also the excessive spin that i was getting really hurt me as well.

hell just playing the course once and slightly better pace on putts shaved 15 strokes... how many would have been shaved if all of my game had been there????

I am looking forward to a much better showing next year.

Callaway X Tour 13 degree stiff should fit the bill perfectly! I have the regular X in 15 deg.(doesn't come in 13) and I LOVE it. By FAR, best fw I've ever played!

Give the Mizuno f-50 a try. It comes in a 15* and a 13.5* 3 wood.

I just bought the R7 Fairway Steel Strong 3 with an X-stiff REAX shaft, took that and a few others out over the wknd and liked it the best hands down. Thanks for all the input!!

Get a New Big Bertha 3 wood. I have one and have never missed a fairway. I use it more than my Driver
