A highlight from my last round was being paired with a golfer who didn't have any faggot arsed, limp wristed, sissy gaybrids in his bag.

Round Report
Well, if there's any seriousness to this post here's my highlight.
Shot a 76 at The Preserve at Jordan Lake with a brand new set of irons (Wilson Staff Fi5) and hit the shot that convinced me it was the right decision to replace my irons.
Had 210 to the hole from the left side of the fairway/rough with a pine tree blocking the green. Had to hit a 15 yard draw, starting it over a pond, then over a trap and hit it 8 feet. I'm a 5 and had never broken 80 at this course and this was the shot that made it happen. Gave me chills it was so good.

Today was as close to perfect as I've ever been. First 18 holes shot my lowest round and first clean round ever 66, 6 birdies and no bogeys. Tried to get in 18 more but only made it thru 14 with a bogey, a double bogey, and 6 birdies. 9 under for the day. Missed 2 fairways all day and hit 28 of 32 GIR's.
-
i played today after short game practice (tues and thurs all i practice is short game instead of everything) and wish i hadnt... shot 77 just nothing clicked today hit 13 gir's which is the usual and only got up-and-down once had 2 birdies, 2 doubles, and 3 bogeys...
-
On Saturday, we had a modified Stableford event. It was one of the weirdest rounds I've ever had. 10 bogies, 6 birdies, 2 pars. The 6 birdies may be the most I've ever had in a round. I went 41, 35 for a 4 over 76. The back 9 could have been great. On 16, I drove it left into the woods and hit a punch under about 5 trees to the front bunker. Blasted out to about 3.5 feet and missed the par. On 17, I hit it to 10-12 feet and lipped out the birdie. I have no idea how the putt stayed out. I proceded to miss about a 2.5 footer for par. It could have likely been a 32, but 35 is still good.
6 birdies is a great round for Stableford.

unless that was a <6000 yard muni, I have to try hard to believe someone with no more than a 7 iron in his bag shot a 66. Your bag screams chopper, but I will give you the benefit of a doubt. That must make NaH throw up in his mouth.
Be glad we aren't getting all of the government we're paying for.

Saw a big honkin beetle on the 4th green yesterday. I flipped it on its back and it was pretty much pooched in this position. So much for beetles taking over the world.

6300yd Muni. The hybrids did not play a major role. The driver, CG4's, Cg10's, and putter were dialed in all day. I didn't come close to a 3-putt.

Well congrats on the round, that's awesome. Success is relative, my 73 was probably equal to your 66 as I usually struggle to break 80. No 3 putts for me either, short game is key.

Thanks, and congrats to you as well. And Poe's explaination on swing speed is exactly why I benefit from the Hybrids. If we can just get our friend NaH to grasp this reasoning the arguement might finally end.

Chance is a fine thing! NAH would rather shoot 85 with his forged blades and long irons to get all that 'feedback to help make him a better ball striker' than bag a couple of hybrids and shoot 66.
BTW, awesome round Strick!
I chose the road less traveled.

I'd rather use the equipment that will make me a better player and since getting the blades I've had some of my best ballstriking rounds in years. And last week I won the A grade in stableford without a hybrid in the bag so I think I'll stick with what works.
I also commend you on a great round Strick, but you must be lamenting what it could have been if you had some real golf clubs in your bag instead of that pile of crap that currently inhabits it.
P.S. BJ, I've learn't to always keep a bucket handy next to the computer when on GR.

11th hole I'm taking a leak in the pond near where my ball lay tucked up along the deep, thick grass guarding it, I had hit a poor weak mans fade to get there, I was already incensed. I hear a splash behind me... it's my whole freekin bag tipped over into the pond. We're talking all my clubs faceplanted into the muck over the back of my speedcart. My golfbuddy GPS display is now in "AQUARIUM" mode. I kid you not, it looks like one of those kid games with the liquid inside that moves around as you tilt it. It is DEAD.
I have to step in the damn Pond to even begin to get my crap out. My left foot sloshes for the remainder of the day as a reminder to how stupid my thinking was. I've wrung my sock out (nice), I've dumped my bag upside down to watch approximately one gallon of pond dump out (no critters at least). My towel is soaked and weighs about 10 pounds, I can't dry a single grip the rest of the way except with my crotch (oh, that's lovely isn't it). My cooler with my remaining beers has filled with POND water. The only thing that survived was my cell phone which is amazing considering it resides in a holster up near the top.
So I hack out about 4 feet, My next shot is virtually perfect and stops within a foot. The putt is gifted (No, they didn't make my soggy arse putt out) for a smooth as silk PAR. The rest of my round is shot, I'm just done mentally and lose to my chief opponent for the 1st time in 08'. Life sucks sometimes.
On a happy note... I took apart my GPS and dried it out with some WD-40, alcohol and then a blow dryer. It worked fine today and I'm back to my winning ways (although I sucked on the back). The starter called us to the Tee with a "Next up on the 1st Tee is Aquaman and friends". Apparently word got out.
Send me some balls beyotch.
Note... My speedcart brake has been well adjusted since. I normally park it sideways to any incline.... live and learn.

Visited my father in New Mexico this last weekend. We played with his usual group which consists of about 20 gi's and 12 or so other retired men. They put us in the last group of 5. I play to a 8, my dad a 6, the other three were scratch, 2, and 6. I started out getting up and down on the first, hit my drive OB on 2 and struggle for a triple 7. The rest of the round was great. Went out with a 39 and came back in with a 35 for a 75 (3 over) and posted 74. Finished birdie, birdie. Last hole was a 380 yard tight par 4. Drove 360 yard down wind to the first F/W cut and a front pin. Flop, one bounce off the pin to 4 inches.
Driving the ball at 5000 feet elevation is great. The ball goes, and goes, and goes. I was hitting pw's over 150 yards with a smooth swing. Hit 4 drives over 350 yards and normal drives were over 300 yards. On the flip side the half wedges were a challenge.

NAH here's a suggestion.
When you shoot 65 how about you come back and brag to Strick and me and everyone else all about your forged blades and your brilliant ball striking and the 'feedback and feel' you got those grain flow forged Haemorrhoid Pro II's.

I tried to play 9 yesterday, but there was a freakin' tornado watch. I'm playing matchplay on Friday against a 14 index and I think I've got to give this guy at least 9. There is a 30 index playing in this tourney who beat a buddy of mine in the first round. I played the last nine holes with these guys and the 30 shot something like a net 25. I really don't want to face this guy down the road.

I played 9 holes with Bernie yesterday. On a 168 yard par 3 I hit 7 iron and Bernie hit 3 iron. super zone did not enjoy himself.
However, Bernie said he was going dancing with his wife later that night, so hopefully he had more luck at that.
-
My dad f'n beat me this weekend. We played match play like we always do when it's just the 2 of us.
Me from the tips (7011) him from the blues (6325) He was 1UP going up to the downhill, downwind par 5 18th. 585 yds for me, 535 for him. We both hit driver. I annihilate mine down the pipe, drive of the day for me. He pulls his into the left rough behind some trees. I consider laying up now, he's a good 20 yards in front of me, & I still have about 250 to clear the creek that fronts the green. This green isn't very sloped, so I'm thinking if I dunk it I can still get up/down to save par. Then I remember that my ball, the Top Flite D2 does NOT like to layup, so I go for it with the 3 wood. I catch it flush, I'm yelling "Go!!!" to the top of my lungs, it hits one of the rocks next to the creek, bounces high, and luckily forward, rolls down a steep bank collection area to the right of the green. 1st time I've ever reached this hole in 2. (green high at least) He tells me "damn good shot" and hits an awesome hook 3 iron around the trees to in front of the creek about 50 yards out. He then hits a poor pitch to about 30 feet from the hole and cusses himself out. haha
Now I have a difficult flop shot in front of me. Green is quite elevated, have about 15 feet or so of green to work with, but it's pretty flat at least. I know I have to make 4 to stay in this, so I open up the Lob wedge and make a phil mickelson swing at it fully expecting to blade the sh.t out of it. By the grace of God, I hit a nice high flop to about 4 feet from the hole. Stops on a dime. I'm thinking "holy sh.t I've pulled this off. We're gonna go to Overtime!"
Dad congrats me on 3 excellent shots to get here, then promptly steps up to his ball (he's putted well all day) and drains the damn 30 footer to halve the hole with birdies and beats me 1 UP. What can I say, if you lose to a birdie, you know you didn't beat yourself.
Neither of us had more than a 2 hole lead at any point, it was the most competitive round we've had in quite a while. We've played using handicap strokes before and that sux, so I just let him hit from closer tees and it usually makes for a good match. All 4 par 3s on this course from the tips are over 200 yards. I played them +3. nice huh. He played well and I played mediocre. It was hella fun.

Breaking 80 was a bad idea Dennis, now you'll want to shoot even par. Something that I will probably never do. And it pisses me off when I think about it.

My dad is 72 but he looks about fifty... and so do I.. (I'm 47)
I would NEVER give him yards... old fart hits it past me about half the time, and I'm no shortknocker.. :-)
-
yeah, my dad is 65 and he's long. If I don't catch mine solid and he screws one, he's longer than me. The main difference with the tees is it makes the par 3s and longer par 4s easier for him. My short game is much better than his, so when he hits more greens it makes it competitive. On one of the par 3s, there's a 50 yard difference in the black & blue tees. seemed pretty ridiculous to me. I hit 4 iron, he hit 8 iron, big difference!
Be glad we aren't getting all of the government we're paying for.

Hey how is everything going? I guess I will tell my high and low of my first time out with a new set of clubs, and first time out in over 5 years, 9th time out all together. I had ton of fun and shot a 117, and on the 15th whole a par 3, I actually got my first par and was within an inch of my first birdie. My low was an 11 on the par 4 2nd whole. Either way I had a lot of fun, and ended up playing the last 17 wholes with two guys who said that they play almost every Sunday. They scored 105 and 109 so my 117 on my first outing made me feel pretty good. I can't wait till I brake 100 though, it'll be a ways away but it will come.
-
I had another pretty strange round. Windy as hell at the SPCC and the course was playing firm. I only hit 6 greens, but managed to get up and down 7 times for a 76.
Outside of 2 missed putts inside 6 feet, I didn't really throw away any shots around the greens. Out of my 5 bogies, 4 were on very tough holes. I also hit 3 wood successfully off the deck to hit a par 5 in 2. I'm absolutely terrible at this shot, so I was pretty pleased.
Highlight was an insane bunker shot up and down on 18 to win 7 skins (I had been shut out up till then).

Played with NXT Tour Player (Haden, age 17) today at Hackberry Creek in Dallas. I'll let him tell you about his round if he wants, but for a guy who has played for a year and a half, that young man has a superb golf swing and is headed for better things. We're gonna do this again.
HOwling wind to open. Got better on the back nine, but it was too late.
I had four or five three-jacks, so my 86 could have been lots better. Only hit one OB and didn't lose any in the water.... took two to get out of a bunker, flubbed a pitch shot that was a foot higher than my feet... just a sloppy day... the wind probably cost me two or three strokes total, and my lousy short game cost the rest.
Typical-- hit 3-wood to ten feet on the longest par 5 on the course. second cut of rough, I'm just crippled by a really short shot with deep rough and just a bit of green. I get some kind of spasms. Can't understand it. Bottom line, 550 yards in two shots and then three more to get down from ten feet. D'OH!
missed a six foot birdie putt on 18 by a foot. That kind of day.
A few bad swings but mostly satisfactory... a few bad breaks but a couple of good ones..
finished out good, hit it to fifteen feet on 17 from 185 and to six feet on 18 from 195.
But the bottom line is, I made one putt longer than ten feet and missed several inside six feet. partly the wind just rocking me (I'm the size of a billboard, after all) but partly lack of skill. :-)
four doubles and a triple (OB). That's five holes, eleven over. The other thirteen holes I played in three over. Had at least three makeable birds including a stupid three footer.
didn't count them but I guarantee I had more than 36 putts. Can't score that way.
-
I found an old pic of this 18th hole. The pic is taken from the p.ussy tees which is about 90 yards closer than the tips. The big tree is about 300 from the back tees and I had just cleared it to the left. The vid is me hitting a Steelhead III driver on this hole a couple years ago. Oh how I miss those 250cc heads....
Dad is toast next time we play. nothing worse than getting beat by your own clubs!

This round was played on wednesday, last two days the course has been closed due to rain
I played the front nine with some hack who had just played 18 and played the back with my brother
Par 69 - ~5700 yard course
Hit some good shots on the front just couldnt do anything and it ended up being my worst score on the front al year, 5 bogeys and a double for 41 (+7), terrible.......
However things where different on the back
had 2 birdies and 7 pars for a 33 (-2)
So had a 74 which isnt terrible on this course but it can be better
12 GIR and 33 putts..........baddddddd

Played 9 last night - 37 on a par 36. Pretty ho, hum. One eagle op' and kicked in for a birdie with to boogies.
Just got back into the office from a round this morning - 75 on a per 72. All Par fives I was putting for eagles and birdie them all. Walked onto the last hole and needed a birdie to post my first 72 - pushed OB left and parred on my 2nd ball for a 6.
I was at a currently 7.6 mark. I think she's going to drop a point or two at the next revision. I've posted 2 18's with a 2.6 or better and one with a 4 out of 6 rounds total and one nine with a 1.4. Good for the ego but it's going to suck for tourneys.

I've played a few good rounds and I'm probably on the pinnacle of my abilities for the amount of time I have to practice. That means for the next couple of revision cycles I will have to play my socks off in a tournament to get anywhere near the net money and I'm not good enough to win gross in my flight. So I'll be contributing and not winning. Now, if I was a sandbagger I would not post these rounds at all or I would post inflated rounds and not the lowest rounds of my golfing career. Then I would show up to a tournament and post the "luckiest round of my life; I never play this good!" While counting your money. Get it?
-
Notice how I said "God I hate PEOPLE with an attitude like this" so its not like i just singled you out, which i kinda did i guess
If I posted a good score that lowered my handicap the last thing i would think about is decreasing my chances at winning some gay net tournament prize or money
And not one point did I call you a sandbagger...I said sand baggers get under my skin, then i said you should be happy you played good and not think about your handicap dropping in those terms
Also im not sure if you knew this or not but by posting your score on this golf forum does not actually change your handicap so im not sure why you said I would post inflated rounds on this website if I was a sandbagger because this is by no means a handicap scoring system....How the hell do we know if you enter this score or not so by posting your true scores on this website still could make you a sandbagger........because we have no idea if you enter your score into your handicap system............................................ .........GET IT?

My bad if I miss understood your reference to sandbaggers was not intended to be toward me but it is a bit vague.

Dude, catch your breath. So, are you now calling me a sandbagger?
You'd have to assume that I've posted the score if I'm making a comment about not being in the run for winnings because of these rounds. Why else would I even bring it up?
Wow! If you're really that interested in vetting my handicap I'll PM my GHIN info and you can monitor my handicap. Oregon just had there revision so it'll be a bit before these scores will show up. Let me know - D!ck.

You said that you are not a sandbagger because you posted your true score in a golf forum...and that just didnt make sense to me thats all, but anyway im not hear to argue......you had some good rounds, congrats

I've had rounds like that lately. You don't know whether to be happy you played so solid and consistently, or to be a little pissed you didn't make any birdies. It's hard to shoot 5 over and not be satisfied, but I bet with a bit of luck on the greens your score could have been a whole lot better. Any score under 80 is a good score, but with no birdies to give you a kickalong 77 is a great score.

It was a course that I only pay a few times a year due to price. It was voted best new international course by GD last year...The greens are uncomparable to my home course greens (very fast). Had 32 putts...two three putts...had a couple close birdie putt that i wasnt overally aggressive on because i didnbt want to three putt (very bad attitude)

Not a round all of my own, but I was in my first tournament this weekend with the company I work for. Four players on each team, I believe I was the D player for my team but I had a lot of shots that we kept. It was a select shot tournament. Over all we did pretty well, we shot a 68 for a score of 4 under par. We didn't win but we did finish fourth. If we could of gotten a little luck we could have taken it though. Probably could of had a little worse luck and finished last to. I did almost get the longest drive, mine was about 306 yards, and the winning drive was 308 yards. That would have been nice to get a plaque on my first tournament, either way I had lots of fun and enjoy reading about everyone else's rounds keep them up.
-
I played for the first time in 2 weeks last night. I wasn't in great form but did manage to get 3 birdies. 2 were on par 5's and were nothing special. The other one might have been my best chip shot ever.
Number 2 at the SPCC is a 180 yard par 3 sloped severely back to front and right to left. The pin is back left. I miss it left by about 25 yards (terrible pull hook). I've got branches to go under, so I've got to hit a pitch into the rough and hope it scoots through and just barely gets on the back of the green. It takes a few bounces and looks like it's going to stay in the rough, but trickles on, takes a severe right turn and goes in the cup on it's last rotation.

Played in a best ball scramble yesterday. Got the long drive and was one off one of three KP's - short tricky green hit the ball about 8 yards past and spun the ball back. It passed about 4" from the the cup and ended up 3' in front for a kick in bird. Heard the guy that got the KP skulled the ball and popped it up on the green to 2". Luck does count.
Had some monster drives - 3 over 300 yards. One of the guys on our team was a machine. He would hit a 250 yard drive down the middle 80% of the time. This allowed the rest of us to swing out of our shoes. Normally wouldn't play this way on many of the holes because it left touchy half wedges but it is fun.
-
Played the best round of my life last week. I had a 41 at the turn so my goal was to break into the 80's. I've only shot in the 90's a handful of times (executive courses of course!), but was able to finish with an 83 (par 72). Loving my new Nike SQ. Long and straight off the tee. Love the sound too. Heard some bad reviews, but everyone knows when I've just put one 275 yards down the middle when they hear it. I pulled up to a tee when a 5-some let my playing partner and I play through. With 6 guys standing on the tee box I put a drive 300 yards down the fairway. Great stuff. No more first tee jitters and coming in on 18 just got really fun.
-
Okay, the good, the bad and the ugly--
Played today, had four doubles (two from three putts, one from yanking OB on a par 4, one from a lousy bunker shot) and a bunch of bogeys and shot 83.
That was the bad.
I also had a TAP IN EAGLE. First eagle at this course in a year of playing here.
507 yard par 5, boomed a drive and hit a choke down 19* hybrid (equal to 3 iron, full length is 2 iron)) about 200 yards, over a trap to a front cut pin with about six feet of green to aim at. Ball hit about five feet in front of the hole and stopped 10 inches away.
I actually briefly wondered if it had gone in. It very well could have.
Also had a birdie on another par 5. So really the other 16 holes sucked even worse than you thought. :-)
Three 1 putts and I still had 36 putts. Gawd I hate the short game.

Well revenge is a sweet thing. Dad & I played another round at the same track Monday, and I gave him a 6&5 drumming this time. Easily the best driving day I've had in years. 13/14 FW. We played match play, so I didn't keep my score, but I know it would have been mid-upper 70s.
He wanted to play the white tees and me play the blue rather than the blue/black combo of last time. I think that favored me more with my length. The SW was finally dialed in from the fairway this time. It's good to play with confidence, I just hope I can keep it through the next round.
Be glad we aren't getting all of the government we're paying for.

13/14 is superb. Lotsa pros would love that number.
Fred Funk would be throwing his driver at his caddie. :-) Which would mean no sex that night. For either of them.

Shot my low round of the year, 2 over 74. 16 pars and 2 bogies. I parred the entire back nine. I didn't really do anything special, just kept hitting greens and didn't make any mistakes putting. It was weird to play a solid round without any birdies though.

That's un unbelievably good score with no birdies. Every good round I've ever shot (my best is 3 over about 4 times) has involved numerous birdies. I just have too many mistakes and disaster holes in me to shoot low with pars.

Here are some low lights from chopper cit-tay. Two weeks ago, shot my carrer low 93. The ninth hole is a 190 yd par 3. Hit it pin high in the left greenside bunker. 4 strokes out of the wet sand later, I two putt for my 7! (Awesome, I know!) Didn't think much of it,as I'm usually good for at least one total meltdown hole. When I tallied the final score, I couldn't help but notice that it was what kept me from shooting my first sub 90 round!
Last saturday, I shot an extremely hung over 97.
So what did we learn other than I suck?
My "A" game is only a few strokes better than my drunken "B" game.
My last 4 rounds have been in double, not triple digits. It's time to work on short game.(This game has not come easy to me.)

Spent an hour Monday and an hour Tuesday on the putting green before work, working on: a new set-up, new grip style, and different style putter. Been using DFX 2-Ball for years but switched to the DFX 5500. Took the new putting game on the course today. Shot a 1 over 73 with 4 birdies and 30 putts on the first 18. Played 9 more and shot a 1 under 35 with 3 birdies and 11 putts. Only hit 3 GIR's and birdied all 3. Only two misses were 7' and 12' sliders that grazed the bottom lip. Makes were: 1,4,2,4,2,9,8,30, and 7. Birdies were the 9,30, and 7.

Club Championship Qualifier yesterday. I shot a 74 with 4 birdies and 3 three putts. That was only good for a 5 seed. We've got some serious ballers at the SPCC. I shot the 4th best round of the day, but the winner from last year gets the 1 seed automatically. I don't think I can win the championship flight, but it would be great to win a match or two.

Awesome achievement HB. Just qualifying for the championship flight is a big achievement. Just enjoy the experience of being there and go out with a nothing to lose mindset, and you might surprise yourself and go deep into the championship. At least at 5 you won't be drawing the guns til the second or third round.

Or better yet HB, skip the championship flight, cause that would be tougher competition. Pull the Kenny Perry and play in the 3rd or 4th flights and you'll win.

84 last night out of nowhere. Driving was absolutely terrible and my distance control sucked balls. I had about 5 punch outs and a couple were sideways. I think I was overswinging because my irons were a good 10 yards longer across the board. Gotta figure this out before my Sunday match, or I'm going to get destroyed. I'm playing a very consistent 3 cap.

The true Kenny would be to play your rounds in the SPCC club championship on a different course you like better. :-)

I lost my first round match in the Club Championship yesterday to a very consistent 4 handicap. Once again, my driving was terrible. I shot 79 to his 76 and I lost 1 down on the 18th green. Very windy day which was killing my drives. I must have been hitting down and slightly across the ball because my drives into the wind were balooning and drifting right to the point that I started hitting iron on all the into the wind holes. Best part of the match was the 17th, where I made a ridiculous bogie after hitting 2 of the worst shots ever to stay 1 down. I missed about a 4 footer which would have won 18. No special parking spot for me this year...

SORRY TO HEAR THAT... that does suck.
yeah my drivers been gone for a little while... i need to go to a wide open golf course (a la KP) and work it out...
or buy a new one.
i have shot two back to back 74's... which is a miracle considering my driver was completely gone.
better luck next year.

Commiserations HB, sounds like your driver deserted you at the wrong time. I've been having major problems with my driver for the last few months, and I know how much it bites and how hard it is to score well when you can't trust the big dog. My problem is definitely an equipment issue though. I reshafted it with a Graf Blue in reg, but the tip was fukt and it had to be cut down about 2 inches at the tip, so now it feels more like an X. I just can't get it in the air and even when I get one in the middle I'm about 30 short of where I am with other drivers. I finally get to take possession of the new driver this weekend so bad drives should be a thing of the past.

Interesting round at the SPCC on Saturday. I had just about the worst start ever. Took a double on #1 which is an exceptionally easy hole. Got a bogie on a short par 3 after shortsiding myself. Bogied 3 which is actually a hard hole, but not from where my drive was. Bogied 4 which is a par 5 I birdie more often than bogey. Then I started actually playing well. Parred out the front for a +5. Shot a 34 on the back with with a holed bunker shot and a holed chip. 4 birds on the back and none were on the par 5's.

Some 17 cap chopper at the SPCC was talking trash on Friday night about making a match out of playing me straight up in match play. Granted, this guy has been making some good finishes in the handicapped events, but there is no possible way he would survive past hole 15. So I bet him I'd close him out on 12, and I'd give him 5 to 1 if he could make to the 17th tee still in the match. 4 other people bet me, so I was on the hook for over $100. I won the match 7 and 6 and sent his chopper-ass home early. I've yet to collect my cash, but I will. I now call him Kenny Perry. He beats up on choppers and finishes well on the money list, but folds like a cheap suit when he plays with the big boys. Fun win.

I usually pull for the underdog, but not when it's a trash-talking 17. The only thing I like better than seeing an underdog win is when a loud mouth d!ckhole gets his a$$ handed to him. Good win HB.

Finally had the breakthrough round yesterday that has been coming for a while. I shot four over off the stick at my local mid week comp and won the event with 41 stableford points. I've been close to a good round for a couple of months but the odd brain fart or bad bounce has just been stopping me. Thought yesterday was more of the same after 3 putting the second green from 12 feet (whacked the first putt 15 feet past), but got things together towards the end of the nine and turned at 4 over with 17 putts and one birdie. Got things going on the back nine and had 2 birdies and 2 bogeys for even par with 13 putts. 40 points in stableford has been a mental barrier that I haven't got past in a long time and it was starting to get to me. I think that now I've got that monkey off my back I can start getting out there and just playing the course without being so score concious.
The other good news is that yesterdays round got me down to 8.4 so I'm now an 8 cap. I've dropped from 10 to 8 in 3 months. I've set myself a goal of getting to 6 by the time the major pennants starts in about 4 months so hopefully I am on the way.
Now I'm just looking for a chopper like the one at HB's course who wants to make a donation to my drinking fund.

Have had 30 putts a round for 3 of the last 5 rounds (the two where I had more were on recently top dressed greens) so the reverse grip isn't goiong anywhere soon

So is 4 over a 76 on a real golf course or did you shoot 66 on your par 62 Pitch & Putt?

You can only play what's put in front of you. 4 over is a respectable score on any track. Last time I played a real course I could only manage a 79, but I'm sure you would probably quote the CCR or find something to try to devalue that too. Maybe you should join a par 62 pitch and putt track Kiwi. At least then you and your SGI POS hackers shovels might be a chance to experience what it feels like to sign for a score starting with a 7 instead of a 9.

FYI There is a very good par 68 course down the road from where I live. My best score there is a 6 over 74 where I also three jacked the 1st green. If I played there all the time I would probably be playing off about 5 but I'd also be bored out of my mind.
I chose the road less traveled.
Now where the f#ck am I?

I'm only a member of my goat track because I don't have the time to play and practice so I can't justify (and afford) the price of private course membership. I also get bored there and usually play at least once a fortnight durng the week at other 'real' course open competition days. The only reason I played my course yesterday was I had to get my grips changed so I had to go there anyway. I certainly prefer a challenge and play away from home as often as I can. Now I am getting my cap down I can start playing in top flight amatuer tournaments so I'll be able to play good courses (not the real top courses as they have a cap limit of 4 but at least half let 9 and under in) under championship conditions on weekends so I'll be playing more golf and less pitch and putt .

Yeah fair enough, this sport ain't cheap if you don't have time to get out and make the most of it. I'm lucky I am a member of a golf club that has two 18 hole par 72 courses. One is a solid, reasonably challenging championship course and the other is a shorter, slightly bland course that suits the older, short hitting choppers.
I recently found out that Nudgee is our sister club and we have reciprocal rights there. I'll have to make sure I get a game there next time I'm in Brissie.
How has the weather been in Sydney this winter?
After a drought last summer we have had nothing but rain for about 3 months. Luckily my club has very good drainage but my old course in Auckland would have turned into bog by now.

Sydney weather has been just about perfect for golf courses. We got heaps of good rain in late summer and Autumn, and sporadic light rain during winter. The courses here are all in top shape for this time of year, plenty of grass but not too soft. They are in the best condition I've seen them in over 5 years. I tink we've had the Nudgee discussion before, apparently one of the better public courses around Brisbane, but not as good as the resort courses on the Sunshine and Gold Coasts (but not many courses anywhere in the world are up to that standard). I'm forgoing playing tomorrow as they have the Holden Scramble on which is a waste of time and money, but I might sneak out in an early group on Sunday to squeeze a round in. Hopefully I can consolidate on my good round yesterday and keep the handicap going down. Usually it is pretty hard to back up next game after a good round, but I think I'm getting over that and am getting better at putting good rounds together.

Yeah we had the Nudgee discussion before but I didn't know then that my club had reciprocal rights there.
The Holden Scramble is on at my club this weekend too. I haven't got my name down as I thought I would be away for the weekend but it looks like I will be home so I might try and get in if there are any gaps in the field.
Hope you keep up the good form.

Unfortunately I had a relapse yesterday. Played in the morning comp and had a woeful 75
Hit the ball great but couldn't get things going early and got a few bad bounces. I made a comeback late in the round and was on track to play to my cap with a strong finish, but on 16 I heard an old mate call out from the clubhouse and seeing him and talking to him between shots, then having to hurry to the 17th tee, caused me to lose concentration and I was 4 over the last 3 holes. Just shows how easy it can be to blow out if you don't keep your focus on the shot at hand.
It was disappoining afetr playing so well Thursday, but there was a silver lining though as the 0.1 I got back takes me back out to 9 for the club champs which start this weekend. So if I win the net by less than 4 shots (a shot per round) I can thank yesterdays round for it.

Tough luck NAH - but if that 9 handi helps you out in the club champs then that's definitely a silver lining as you say.
I played like absolute crap in our club comp on Saturday too. I wanted to redeem myself on Sunday but we had torrential rain and the comp was cancelled. We have had one of the wettest damn winters on record. We had a drought up until 3 months ago!!!
Great win by the Wallabies at the weekend. I'm really looking forward to the show down in Brisbane. I'd hate to be a Bok supporter right now. They appear clueless!

In spite of the last world Cup, I think the showdown in Brisbane will decide the best team in the world at the current moment. It dhould be an absolute cracker of a match, but we might struggle with injuries after the weekend. We will really miss Elsom and I seriously doubt our ability to win without him, but losing Barnes might be a blessing in disguis as it may open the door for Tahu, who has the ability to be the best league convert Asutralia has ever had.

What's happened to Elsom?
Don't tell me he's been banned? I knew he had been cited but if he is banned that is one of the biggest BS citings I've ever seen. Agree that you will miss him big time, he is a great player and you guys missed him in Auckland IMO.
Yeah injuries could be a worry for you guys, especially as the Boks tend to resort to blatant thuggery when Plan A doesn't work. We'll see how you go this weekend and then get set for the Brisbane showdown.
