Rules To Help New Posters On Golf Review (STICKY PLEASE)
Here are the rules to help all all new members to Golf Review Forums
1. Never post anything on GR that would be more appropriately posted on Shotttalk
2. Anything that is unnaceptable on Shottalk is probably appropriate for GR
3. Never miss an opportunity to Abuse/threaten/mock/dismiss or otherwise generally harass any poster if you disagree with their point of view, no matter how valid
4. Never miss an opportunity to question any posters sexuality (This particularly refers to rule 10)
5. Rule 3 & 4 do not apply to Bigpun1974 (A very hostile, angry and scary Matlow)
6. If you do not play with blades/mizunos/2 iron either keep it to yourself or rule 3 and 4 will be enacted.
7. Attack is ALWAYS the best form of defence on GR
8. If you do not follow rule 1 be prepared for rules 3 and 4 to be enacted, without mercy.
9. The word Pseud(tm) is the intellectual property of Edgey and cannot be used without his express, written permission
10. There is no tolerance on GR of people who use/promote the use of GI/SGI/Cast POS Shovels/5 Woods/Hybrids/Lovett Wedges/Chippers/Ping/OEM (Add/Delete As Required) and rules 3 and 4 will be immediately enacted if you do
11. An omnipitant presence is always watching over us all and will VERY occasional speak, his wisdom is beyond question and he is known as FRED3 (Amen)
12. Omen is not the Messiah, he's a naughty little boy.
13. If you are not American an interpretor may be required
14. The moderators have Draconian powers to ban posters without warning and with no right of appeal (Bring back Teesee)
15. Being right is irrelevant and rules 3 &4 will be invoked if you attempt to argue
16. We have a resident Italian/Canadian/Limey/Kiwi/Aussie and as such we need no more, thankyou.
17. On GR you can say ****/****/****/**** etc but you need to be imaginative in your spelling like phuck or f*uck etc etc
18. If you are a wanker, ignore Rule 1 and are driven off GR via rules 3 & 4 and rejoin under a new name you will be discovered, exposed and rules 3 &4 will be applied with more vigour and venom until you are driven off again (See Spank for a Reference)
19. All spammers will be removed unless the Moderators do not remove them as only the moderators know the rules about spamming
20. If your not happy with the rules ****, sorry F*uck off to shottalk
I await rules 3, 4 and 14 to be enacted
Edgey

Well done Edgey Old Chap
This needs to be made a permanent sticky and all new members must be made to read and understand this thread PRIOR to joining.
Great work!
I chose the road less traveled.
Now where the f#ck am I?

Kudos, Edgey, great stuff. I consider myself very fortunate the rules permit one organ grinder.

Loz
You are special and as such the rules are here to protect your status.
I intend to keep BUMPING this until it is either banned (see the rules ref mods) or made a sticky

We also have one Aussie, one Kiwi and one limey, also enough. I would like to scale down the number of Canadians as well.
One the other hand, we are in need of a token female, Asian and an African-American that isn't a Spank alias. We don't have a French member which is, of course, just fine.

The Messiah Does Not Approve Of The Pseud Rule 12...
Change It Or There Will Be An Omnipotent Beat Down.

Omen, the GR standard by which all GOLFERS will be measured.

Its a very good thing that these rules do not apply to me or any accomplished golfer who reads and posts on this Golf forum. Then again if you live and abide or post under these rules then you should join WANKERREVIEW.COM. I think these rules here are a bit childish and demeaning. The very two things an accomplished golfer is not. Or any person with proper upbringing and a low handicap. The only people I have so unluckily had to be around that would find these rules a justice or would follow them were very high handicappers who throw clubs and bang their putters on their heads and yell obscene and vulgar language on the golf course because they cant find their pinnacle or top flight in the forest for the trees. That they so violently sliced in disbelief that they were trying to hit a fade or power fade. Those trees did nothing to you but show you the way too the hole.
-
Now edgey, this is really unfair. It's the new people who know what is best/acceptable to our forum. We've been running roughshod without a moral compass for quite some time, and I for one find it comforting and refreshing to bow down to shottalk-like levels of pillowtalking. How are everyone's mothers? Mine is doing great. I no longer have the desire to bang all your moms. I'd rather exchange recipes and learn from their wisdom than pound their vaginas. I've changed. Everyone else can too.

You forgot the rule about how it is now acceptable to spam the board, and your post can remain up for days. Sometimes they'll delete it, sometimes not. Sometimes the "moderators" will eliminate or change the links associated with a spam post, sometimes not. Spammers are now apparently welcome, judging by the inactivity of the moderators to deal with them, even after being notified that a thread is obviously spam. (There is currently a spam thread on the non-golf forum which has been active for days with links to the spammer's "store" still intact, days after notification that the site was spam.)
Kudos to the moderators......

You came dangerously close to falling out of character there, Spank. I'm sure it's exhausting but you gotta keep up. This is good work you're doing.

Dear Pro Status/Spank
It appears you have fallen foul of rule 1 and possibly rule 18
As such rules 3 and 4 may be invoked

I fear you misread the rules
The rule ref PSEUD (tm) is rule 9 and is non negotiable
Rule 12 must apply as rule 11 has clearly defined Fred3 (Amen) as the Omnipitant one
As such Rule 12 is appropriate, you are neither omnipitant or the Messiah, sorry
Please remember the rules, cause if we didnt have rules where would be, FRANCE!!

If you ever get bored, head over to shottalk and look up posts by Omen and I (if they haven't deleted them). We launched a full out assault on pillowtalking. Omen actually got reinstated, but I really pissed off some of their moderators and have been lifetime banned.
If you two launched into your usual stuff, I think you would last less than 15 minutes.

When a message is sent that there is a spam post, does it come to your e-mail box? Long ago, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, I was a moderator. When someone reported a bad post it came to my e-mail, and I was able to respond as soon as I read my e-mail. I sent e-mail notifications to the board on each of the latest spam posts as soon as they were seen by me. Yet some of them went on for days. I must assume that either: 1. You aren't getting the messages that there are spam posts, or 2. You simply don't care.
Which is it?
If you aren't linked to spam notifications on the board, contact Francis, or whoever is in charge of the board. If you simply don't care, and prefer to respond with profanities, I really don't have any advice for you. You are beyond help.
Seldom right, never in doubt......

But Edgey my old British chum you'd need to do what HB did and take Omen with you. You seem to reserve your best (or worst???) stuff for Omen and are reasonably civil to the rest of us. I agree that if you went at it the way you do with Omen you would only last about 15 mins over at ST but if you weighed in in your more reserved British style you'd probably last a week or two notwithstanding the odd warning from the mods over there.
I chose the road less traveled.
Now where the f#ck am I?

I wouldn't worry about it if you did or didn't check your e-mail several times a day. However, when spam is ignored for DAYS on end, there are other issues.
My, we're getting a little defensive here, aren't we?! Obviously, a sore spot has been struck....
No thanks; not interested in being moderator again. Once Francis cut my moderator pay from $20,000/month to $15,000/month, it just wasn't worth my time......

You were actually a moderator - and you know what kind of thankless job that is from experience - and you're gonna cut up a couple teenagers who have enough to do already with school and homework and who volunteer their time to this site so people like ME don't have to volunteer to moderate? Count your blessings.
I'll volunteer in a heartbeat. All hell will break loose and I will freeze over not just hell, but the whole f'n universe if I want to. I would even have sharks with f'n laser beams on their heads. Yes, I am that evil.
Seriously, cut the kids some slack, it's only spam.. it only hurts you if you eat it.

Up at the top right hand corner of each post is an red triangle logo. If you click on that, a screen comes up, asking you if you wish to report a post as spam, offensive, etc. The message is then forwarded to the moderators in their e-mail, and they can fix the problem, IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO. I had reported a few posts as spam recently, and one post on the non-golf forum was allowed to go on for DAYS after reporting it. He tried to give a lame excuse that "I don't check my e-mails several times a day" as if that was the issue. Perhaps he checks his e-mail once or twice a week........
It is really a VERY easy thing for the moderator to eliminate spam. They simply go to the first post on the thread and delete it. The entire thread disappears......instantaneously.....job done. Or, they can choose to be more creative. One can leave the post intact, but simply eliminate or alter the links to the spammer's website. Again, this whole process takes less than a minute. I don't buy this "they're too busy to handle this" stuff, because it really takes almost no time at all to deal with it.
Perhaps we need to have Francis reinstate Benguk as moderator. Now THERE was an effective moderator........

If you want to let the board be inundated by spam to spite me, you are even dumber than I thought. Go ahead. Be my guest.
Wow, but without your skilled hand at the helm, this board is likely to descend into a morass of negative posts, flaming, and spamming. We certainly wouldn't want that to happen.........

My feelings precisely......I see we are basically in agreement. Spam does annoy me, but if the board is filled with spam, let Francis figure out how to handle it. Nobody is EVER going to stop the flaming, trolling, and multiple personalities on the board unless Francis is serious about cracking down on some people. I don't think he has the interest to do that. (If I get banned for these comments, so be it.)
One thing that is comical about this board is that in the past when the sheriff has driven some of the outlaws out of town, the board dries up; no new posts. No flaming? Why post on GR? It is sad but true. Many of those on this board have less interest in golf than in flaming about golf.

DM53, you are in a very distinct minority with your opinion. What we have here is a site where people actually say what they really think - you may consider that to be trolling or flaming, but what it really is - an atmosphere of BLUNT honesty - is something unique to the boards on GR, and I for one appreciate it.
You're making a mountain out of a molehill in regards to the spam issue, and you look like a complete hypocrite trolling JS and PM360 with your juvenile call-outs. Like JS said, you should appreciate what those boys do, especially since you were once in their position. It's not like we're overrun with spam - so a few threads slip by for a day or two... big deal. We have some fun with them. You'd hardly have a thing to post if it weren't for spammers. Oh, and defending SGI CB POS shovels. You seem to be all over that one.

The board is NOT currently inundated by spam. However, if it is not dealt with as it arises, (and there are usually several new spam attempts per week) they would begin add up pretty quickly. Over a few months, a substantial minority of the threads on the board would be spam. Yeah, it's fun to make fun of them now and then, but it would get pretty old after a while. It is the cumulative effect over time that is the concern. I don't think you realize how often the board is spammed, because they have usually been deleted relatively promptly. No other golf board tolerates spam, but then again, no other golf board tolerates the flaming and trolling that goes on here, either.

What we have is a board where many people are AFRAID to say what they actually think, because they will be jumped on by the "Mizuno blades for everyone" crowd if they deviate from the mindless orthodoxy of the loudmouths. I don't care about defending cavity backs, game improvement irons, or anything like that. I don't play game improvement irons, though I do play neutrally weighted, square faced hybrids and relatively thin soled, minimal offset, thin topline forged cavity backs. What I am passionate about is the opinion that DIFFERENT PEOPLE BENEFIT FROM DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT SOLUTIONS. The overwhelming majority of golfers will NOT play better if they use blades, or try to play their 3 iron instead of a hybrid or lofted metalwood. Some people on this board are actually intimidated by the mindless Mizuno crowd into buying equipment that isn't the best option for them. The "Mizuno blades for me, Mizuno blades for EVERYBODY" crowd STIFLES much of any useful equipment discussion by their juvenile name calling and total ignorance of general knowledge of golf equipment other than their narrow little view of the world. THAT is what I oppose. If someone wants to play Mizuno blades, more power to them. If someone chooses to play cavity backs or hybrids, which is the MAJORITY of the golf world does (professionals included), they shouldn't be ridiculed because they chose differently. That is very immature, ignorant, and unfortunately, seems to be the way this board has been headed recently.
It isn't "blunt honesty" to tell someone that they are an idiot if they don't buy Mizuno blades. It is simply ignorant bullying and/or flaming/trolling.

DM53 comes complete with an "EASY" button for trolling.
Seriously - I have a problem with how game improvement technology is being marketed and the propaganda being used to further drive home the point that EVERYBODY NEEDS FORGIVENESS. It's utter BS, and the message it sends to the masses are that they aren't good enough to use musclebacks or blades. It's nonsense, if anyone thinks their SGI POS shovels are all that much easier to hit than blades, they really are uninformed victims of propaganda. I understand what you're getting at with respect to the "Mizzy for me, Mizzy for everyone" crew, but that's just obvious brand loyalty, and it's as transparent as air to most people - like my brand loyalty for TM, except I don't force that down people's throats.
The merits of Game Improvement on the other hand is IMO a myth that needs severe busting. I have firsthand experience with both, and as a 10 index it's not like I'm some Iron Byron machine when it comes to ballstriking. What I have realized is that GI technology comes at significantly higher prices than most "player's" irons, and typically the technology fails to live up to the marketing propaganda being used to sell the clubs. It's fearmongering - the majority of GI users are downright chicken$hit to try musclebacks or blades because they've been led to believe that they are not good enough (usually they are told their handicap is too high - as if a specific handicap is going to magically turn the ability to hit a player's iron on or off ) and thus never learn the truth for themselves. I support critical thinking and basing one's perspective on fact and evidence - evidence which can only be acquired by actually trying the damn clubs - not some belief in the myth of GI technology.
I've been a hacker in a previous life so this is all honest and truthful actual experience I'm basing my opinion on. I'm not trying to bemoan lesser players - I'm trying to free their minds and open their eyes to the TRUTH. I'm not getting anything out of it - I'm not holding out a collection plate to the converts - all I get out of it is the satisfaction that someone learns the truth and becomes more open-minded as a result. How is that wrong?

Good, about time the direction of this thread was pushed toward an attack on SGI POS CB shovels (not sure which rule it is but is definitely one of the underlying themes of GR). AS FON has said, and alot of members here are in agreeance on, the SGI claims made by most OEM manufacturers is propaganda BS. 'Forgiveness' and 'larger sweetspots' will never compensate poor swings, and in all the years I've played golf I have never seen one player reduce their handicap after getting a new set of shovels. I play once a week and have no time to dedicate to practice, and thus apparently am a prime candidate for CB SGI POS shovels. But since ditching my GI clubs 4 months ago and getting a set of forged player cavities (that are very nearly blades), my handicap has dropped 4 shots and I have shot some of my lowest rounds for years. My ball striking has improved out of sight during this period and my swing is now sounder than it has ever been. Sure I'm basing my opinion on my own personal experience only, and I accept that there are plenty of guys around who may not have the same level of natural flexibility, co-ordination, experience, clubhead speed etc who may not be able to use players clubs, but I certainly don't subscribe to the clubmakers theory that every single player who doesn't play off scratch or better would improve their game by playing the latest SGI crap. Some players will defiitely benefit from clubs with lower centres of gravity, more offset etc, but a shop fitter basing this on your handicap before even seeing you swing a club is ridiculous. It's just as ridiculous as OEM companies syaing that knockoffs made in the same factory, with the same design and same components won't be as good as their's because they don't have the magical brand name stamped on the club. I think the SGI myth that has been carefully created by the OEM companies is totally bogus and just a ploy to gouge money from unsuspecting golfers. Any golfer who buys shovels without at least trying a players club first is doing themself a gross disservice.
P.S. Edgey, I found telling a few home truths about Kerry Perry and his cast CB POS SGI shovels and poncy, low hooky swing got me in trouble pretty quick on shittalk.

Presumably those brilliant forged player cavities (that are very nearly blades) that have improved your ball striking out of sight also helped you achieve your Sergio'esque choke (triple bogey) at the weekend?
Sergio himself would have been proud!

I thought I explained that but once mroe from the top. I left the gap wedge out of the bag by accident and faced a shot that was a perfect gap wedge, but a SW would leave it in the front bunker (with an almost iompossible up and down to a front pin) so I tried to play a less than full pitching wedge, which I pushed a little causing it to go right, get a big bounce and go OB. That was a bit of a mental choke but not of Sergio proportions as OB was always on the cards with a bad bounce if you missed it anywhere except short. In hindsight I probably should have hit SW in the front bunker and settled for bogie but at the time I was even par and didn't want to throw a shot away.
And just for your info, that improved ball striking allowed me to hit 11 GIR, another 3 greens towards the back but which the ball rolled off onto the fringe, and being pin high just off the putting surface another 2 times. Only one approach all day ended up short of the green, and the other bad approach was the above mentioned OB. I have never got those sorts of stats using shovels.

Yeah you explained it very clearly Hacker. I was just winding you up. What a b*tch that you left the gap wedge out. That is really frustrating when you are having the round of your life and facing up to every shot with confidence only to discover you don't have the club for the job in the bag. I never leave the GW out as it is the most valued scoring club in the bag but if I did, in that situation, I think I would have hit PW too. So what did you finish up with? 3 over? It's a pity about the triple ruining an almost perfect day. But you must have been playing great golf and to come home with 3 pars after the disappointment of that triple bogey was a great recovery. If that was me I probably would have unravelled then and there and bogied everything on the home stretch.
So hard luck Hacker but great round nonetheless.
I chose the road less traveled.

Because the owner of the site has those words added to the language filter, and the mods don't have the permissions necessary to edit the filter.

I think it's time we amended a new rule to this list.
GR initiation period starts with your first post and ends at 100 posts. Up until then you're just fodder for the regulars. If you survive the initiation, you'll be put on a further probationary period until 250 posts are reached, whereby any violations of the above rules will put the new member squarely in the crosshairs of any and all flaming, trolling, and bashing. Survive 250 posts and you earn your GR freedom.

Why do we need to vote on common practices? After 250 post and they still haven't gotten it do we stop flaming, trolling, etc.? You graduate when you grow thick enough skin to withstand these common GR posting styles.

And I'll be sending the link directly the domain owner shortly so they can see for themselves why they have more than 100,000 members and yet only about a dozen active ones.
This forum should have AT LEAST 2500 or more ACTIVE members posting during any given week, especially during the golf season.
But thanks to ass heads like you and mods who dont ban your worthless asses immediately, this forum is a huge failure as a golf resource.

I already set up a new golf forum on one of my smaller domains.
I certain am not interested in having in a large number of the persons posting here end up there, so I removed the link I had originally posted on my homepage to keep anyone from this forum from heading over there.
Not that there arent a handful of really decent folk here. You seem to be capable of being civil and helpful yourself, but there are at least half a dozen here who shouldnt be allowed to post because they are running off any newbies that might actually get some use from the site otherwise.
Frankly, and no offense to the mods, but its THEIR job to weed out the trash. Apparently they arent doing a good job of it, so its directly a result of their lack of policing the place that its degraded to its current state.

It's unquestionably a niche site, and we aren't as kind to newbies as we could be. Since your protests are honorable, can we come up with a proposed set of rules? Maybe a grace period for new members? Maybe we can all benefit from something like this.

Frankly Im on my last day here. Its been entertaining and all but far too much of my time wasted that would be better spent practicing.
I seriously doubt that moderation will get the few dick heads here contained so that this site could go anywhere.
And the problem really is that there are apparently thousands of members who have already signed up and not liked it here because of the dicks and moved along.
Getting them back is a million to one. Which is the main factor as far as talking myself out of even trying to talk to the owner except to show him why this forum has failed miserably.
Based on what Ive seen it takes 2-3 years to get a forum going well.
But with so many members already run off, it could take twice that to get that bad first impression out of peoples minds. Im not sure Id want to invest the time and money or not.
This place had potential once. If I am interested and did get the owners to sell the domain it might be worth more just to shut down the forum and resell it to some unsuspecting fool.

This place had potential once. If I am interested and did get the owners to sell the domain it might be worth more just to shut down the forum and resell it to some unsuspecting fool.
This so reminds me of those times when friends of mine and I were both going to bid on something in business where we'd know the other was interested. I could gauge their level of interest by how disinterested they tried to sound and their reasoning. Of course, I'd do the same thing. It was really pretty funny.
By the way, I'm not really interested either. Golf as a game is shrinking, the world economy is collapsing, better to keep the cash.

You've honestly been nothing but a miserable twit since you've joined. You're correct in your assumption that a thin-skinned panty-waste such as yourself doesn't belong in a forum that contains some good-hearted ribbing and general fun nonsense.
You have this post, and "Bye Bye" in your sig line. Please, for the sake of all of us whom have truly enjoyed this forum until you showed up, follow up your words with action and leave. Then we'll all be happy.

If you buy the site and it changes, we'll all just start a new site and hang out there. In fact, Sooner already has one waiting.
I DID have, but I let it expire. I got tired of carrying on a conversation with myself.
I still have my gambling site though. We could just meet and post in the "links" forum.
It wouldn't be the same though posting on a site that didn't flash google advertisements at me after every post.

I seriously doubt that moderation will get the few dick heads here contained so that this site could go anywhere.
