Ping G10 shaft help.
I am looking at purchasing a Ping G10 senior driver. If you have experience with these I would appreciate your help. I am currently hitting a Cobra LD M speed offset 10.5 degree driver with a senior shaft soft tipped. I hit it pretty well but I balloon it extremely high. In buying a G10 I have the opportunity of buying one 10.5 degree draw with a senior Ping shaft, or a 9 degree non-draw senior shaft, or a regular non-draw Grafalloy red. I am wanting a lower ball flight and tend to fade to slice the driver. Would I be better off with the higher lofted 10.5 draw when I already hit a high ball, or would the 9 degree make that much difference in ball flight and not have the draw control, or would I be better off with the red shaft in reg. I am just not sure my swing can handle the Grafalloy Red.. My swing speed is in the mid to upper 70's. I would like the lower ball flight but have not way to try the Graf. Red shaft. If you have any experience with any of these I welcome your advice. Thank you. I am after lower ball flight which should add some distance when I do not baloon the ball.

Do you have the ability to try each of these and compare or are you going to buy one and hope it works? If you're going with the buy and hope method, the place you get it from needs to have a reasonable return policy!

No place to demo
I do not have a place to demo these. So, I hate to say it but it is a buy to the best of my ability and hope. That is the reason I am really researching and asking others for advice before I buy and trying to get some idea how the shafts play. Thanks for your reply.

The soft tip of the shaft is probably partially responsible for the ballooning. Is your ball flight starting high and left and then dramatically moving to the right? Starting straight and then moving right, or starting right and then going further right?

I don't know if personal experience with those options will really help you make the best decision. No two swings are really alike. Even players of equal ability and swing speeds might require totally different equipment. When you say "balloon" do you mean the ball starts lower and then raises or does it just fly consistently too high?

Flight of ball
The ball flight is starting straight to maybe just a little left and then going right but very high. I have a desending blow which is generating alot of backspin causing highth. That is the reason I was looking at the Graf. Red but have heard it plays strong to flex and with my mid to upper 70's was afraid it might be too much. I was assuming the soft tip was helping getting the head closed at address. I may be wrong.
-
An active tip can help with that but it's better for getting the ball into the air.
I'd work on the swing path more so you quit hitting down on your driver like an iron. That plus a soft tipped shaft is the reason for the ballooning shots. I don't think spending the money on a new driver would solve the problem enough to justify the price. Coming from the inside on a shallower path on the other hand would.

What shaft are you currently playing?

a cobra mitizubsi 45 gram senior soft tip. Std. equipment for the driver.

i dont believe you are ballooning the ball with a 70 mph swing, that's just too slow IMO.....slicing the ball is gonna have a higher trajectory for an average golfer....

High Ball
All I know is I hit my irons really accurate and straight but the driver is a killer. Extremely high and I have been recommended to look at the G10 with low ball spin face, a lower degreed head, and maybe a shaft that is mid to high flex point to bring the drive down. Thanks to all who have responded. I was hoping someone had some experience with the G10 and the 129 G10 Ping shaft as compared to the Graf. red and how each plays. Guess not.. But thanks for your advice.

if you are more concerned with the shaft, test out clubs with the shafts you're looking at, the driver head itself is not going make much difference, and the G10 will produce as much spin as any other OEM POS will identical shafts

I would suggest against the graf red. It seems to be very similar to the old prolite 35 and they were hard shafts to handle. I've had a hit of a G10 10.5 with a regular stock shaft and it was absolutely awesome. The feel was superb and for some reason it didn't feel whipy and gave me an excellent ball flight (high but penetrating with plenty of roll) and good distance. On the day I hit my swing was absolutely spot on though and I would have hit anything good, but I still think that was a good combo.

I am a senior with a naturally high ball flight, a swing speed of 95 mph, and found that every senior or soft tip shaft I have tried sends the ball high (except one, which I explain below). I am currently using a 47" Penley Stealth 70 gram extra stiff in my 9.5 degree driver and I get the correct ball flight (medium height with a baby draw) for about 220 to 230 carry. The Penley Stealth has a high kick point and does not play extra stiff; more like firm regurlar to stiff. I have tried the Pro Launch Red Stiff in a Adams BTY (an excellent driver BTW) and had a lower ball flight which I liked but the stiff was a little tiring towards the end of 18 holes and I am in the same boat as you on wondering about the PL Red regular shaft.
I just auditioned the G10 in the stock Ping shaft in regular and a 9 degree head (neutral) and was very impressed with the ball flight trajectory and feel of this shaft. It closely emulates the same attributes of my Penley Stealth. I would not be afraid to even consider the Ping soft-regular stock shaft with this head considering your swing speed as it has a firmer tip then normal senior shafts (I auditioned G10 irons with this shaft and they were the best by far in the senior category flex shafts that I tried for trajectory).
In conclusion, I would say that head loft will be the main criteria for the ball flight you are looking for and shafts will enhance or detract from that. The Ping stock shafts are a good mid kick shaft, imo. and if you buy it used (ebay?) you can always resell if it doesn't work out without losing much if any money (thanks to Pings great resale value).

220-230 yards or meters ?
with 95mph speed, 47" stick, 9.5* loft and 220-230 yards. I would assume that there is a power loss.

I'd say the distance issue is down to the shaft for JonT. The Extra Stiff would be great for accuracy, but at 95mph may be a little to stiff distance wise and result in a drop in distance.

Senior as 60? and plays with extra stiff shaft? Am I reading it correctly?

Yards. Your assumtions may be correct (I do fight an early release), although the swing speed calculations I have seen would consider 220 yards of carry as being optimistic for a 95 mph driver ss. Closer to 205 to 215 yards of carry (not total yards, carry plus roll) is probably more likely, based on 10* degrees of loft, 77* F, 70% humidty, and no wind.

61.
Yes.
Not sure.
As you probably know, shaft flexes may vary from different manufacturers as there is no industry standard. The Penley Stealth, especially at the longer length, plays softer, ime.
