Hey guys, i am looking into buying new irons. There are 3 sets that i was looking at that are around my price ($300 used). The 3 are Titleist 775, Titleist 755 and Taylormade R7. Which one of these do you guys think is the best and what is the big difference between the titleist 775s and the 755s?

Titleist clubs are garbage. If those are your only choices buy the TM R7's. If you can spare bit more cash go get yourself some callaway x-22's.

the callaways are a bit too much for me. i've heard alot of good things about titleist clubs, anyone else dislike titleist?

TMac would (and probably has) take it in the rear for new Titleist club. He's a sheep shagger from Eskimo land. Ace Ventura Pet Detective is a new release at his Blockbuster. You get the idea.

If you wanna throw good money away on cheap, tinny, chopper shovels that look like you shop at Walmart, get the Cally's. Otherwise, for your budget, you can get Nickent 4DX CBs or 3DX tour irons brand new for under $200 (man I wish I lived in America). The 3DX Pro's also have a Nippon 1180 shaft in them standard, which are expensive upgrades in most sets. They would be a better iron than any on your list IMO. Wilson Ci7's can also be had for under $300 brand new. I really think you should widen your search and have a hit of the Nickents and wilsons and forget about those overpriced OEM crap clubs you and M3W have listed.

im really open to anything, those are just the 3 that i was looking at. i didnt think about the wilsons or nickents because i never really heard a lot about them and i have never seen anyone with them so i havent got the chance to try them out. i will have to take a look at them, thanks for the response.

My buddy plays those Wilson irons and loves them. I think with the above two mentioned brands you can't go wrong. You are getting a lot of bang for your buck with these two brands. Wilson makes some decent equipment. It is a shame not many folks play this brand.

You are right with the bang for your buck comment. The shafts alone in the Nickents would cost way more than the $179-95 e-bay price for the whole set. The Wilsons are also less than half price of the original RRP.

You would have to have rocks in your head to pay $500 plus for the X-22 or second hand Titty's.

I had a set of Wilson's as a junior. Must've been about 15-20 years ago. Had 'em chopped down, ladies flex shaft in 'em...man they were awesome! First time I shot in the 30's (3 over par) was with those clubs. It was a shorter course but my dad was still in awe. The other 9 I shot something in the lower 50's.

Back on topic...find a used sporting goods store in your area. You can sometimes find some nice sets of oldish name brand clubs sitting around. Or call a local golf course and talk with the pro. Sometimes they have a set sitting around or want to get rid of their old clubs, demo clubs, rental sets, etc. Unless you're under a 10 hdcp I'd find something used or a year or two old. With irons nothing has really changed in forever. Just make sure you try them out first and check to make sure the shafts aren't bent and so forth.

You don't think brand new 3DX Tours with Nippon 1180 shafts for 179-95 isn't a great bargain? I couldn't imagine finding a better deal anywahere than that.

P.S. Obviously this is advice is subject to your specs being right for the clubs. If you go to a shop make sure you get a fitting session (even if it's just taping the soles and hitting a board) to ensure that you can use them. The cheap clubs off ebay are normaly standard lie and loft, which should be okay for most golfers but better get a fitting to be sure first.

Just another option for him. That is a pretty good buy. There are tons of places online you can find great deals like that. Just Google the company and Better Business Bureau them to make sure they aren't a sham site.

Craigslist. Somewhere local then you can drive there and buy them in person getting around the family against eBay.

Yes, fitting is important. Was at a local big box place a few weeks ago and was just browsing the irons. A guy in his 20's was in there with his dad (I'm guessing he was in college) and was buying a set of new irons. I walked by and asked if he was getting the proper lie angle and so forth because he was definitely a few inches over 6 feet tall. His response, "what does that mean? I really want these the way they are." I tried to explain but he walked out with his new purchase that'll probably leave him with toe heavy divots for the rest of his life.
