    Golf Budget and the Wife

This is a topic carried over from another thread.

Do you have to beg to get new golf equipment or to get out and play on the weekend?

Does your wife spend her days laying out at the pool and in the nail salon, while you work...only to make you beg for your hard earned money?

Everytime you pay the bill on a nice dinner do you look at it and think..."that could have been a new driver"?

How bad is this for you?

I buy all of my equipment with gift certificates from winning tournaments. My entire bag (and bag itself and clubs sitting around) were bought very cheaply this way. If you need to buy your equipment and can't use tournament winnings your money would probably be better spent on lessons.

But you have to admit, it was a great reply.

I won a scramble last week for the Fraternal order of Police. I got a whopping $50 and a 24 pack of some local beer. It was kind of a pisser for a first place finish.

My wife and I have a similar agreement. I make the money and she stays at home and sucks my dick whenever I tell her to. If she sucks my dick well, then I allow her to cook me some dinner. If she has been a good little woman, I might give her $50 to go spend on herself while I use the other $800 at the remainder of the month to buy some golf equipment.

You left out most of that, OP, but I know your agreement is likely the same.

Thanks Sooner. At least someone sees the world in my eyes. I forgot to answer one part of it...the whole wife letting you golf thing. Yeah, she does. I golf when I want. I just say, "I'm golfing tomorrow" and she says, "ok, sounds good." She knows I love the game. Plus I buy her stuff when I place in tournaments. She keeps saying to me, "why don't you make us some real money and go pro?" How's that for a wife??? Yeah, I know I'm lucky! If I had a wife that wanted to do everything she wanted and didn't allow me to do what I wanted...wait, I wouldn't have married someone that selfish in the first place. Sorry to those of you who married someone like that.

Are you married dude? I thought you were just a kid.

Anyway my wife would also love me to "make us some real money" but the trouble is the most I'm likely to win is a meatpack in my weekly scramble.

I'm stuck with the day job.

My wife is pretty cool about golf. I buy any gear I want and play as much as I want. But she does occasionally question why I need new clubs when the ones I have are pretty good. She's not worried about the money she just doesn't want me cluttering up the house with excess clubs. However what got this thread started was the disparity between what we spend on the basics e.g. I pay $15-20 for a haircut about every 6-8 weeks whereas she will add a decimal place and spend $150-200 every 6-8 weeks. That difference is enough for a full set of clubs every year! So that's how I justify my club ho urges!

I go away for a few golfing weekends every year. She will have a shopping weekend in Melbourne or Brisbane with her mum or sister a couple of times a year. It all evens out!

Yes Edgey, I'm afraid I can only agree with you. It is sad to see our once virtually unbeatable cricket team be reduced to pretty much a rabble. All things go in cycles I suppose and we can only hope we are at the bottom of ours. It shows that once team unity is gone a team cannot succeed.

    Quite so!
Kiwi is as sharp as a pin and has the memory of an elephant.
If you contradict yourself, even years later, Kiwi will swoop down like a bird of prey from nowhere and make short work of you.
This is a little ironic as kiwis can't fly.

Kiwi's bark is worse than his bite. Furthermore, does an elephant have good or bad memory? I'm not a pachyderm expert and I need clarification if you're making fun of him or lifting him onto a pedestal.

As I told you in another thread wiggle, open a seperate chequing account that only you have access to,drop a few bucks in every month and presto before you know it you have enoughe for the golf equipment you want.I put my holiday pay, income tax return etc in this account and use for my leisure.Ibought aboat, dirt bike, golf clubs, skis etc.I originally started this in an attempt to pocket some cash for emergencies, cause if it was in our joint account it would have been spent right away.Try it,just a suggestion, take care..

    5 years out of college?

Edgey, I still think we are the superior team, but our current captain is indeed as dumb as dog shitt and ran out of ideas at 'throw Warney the ball', which he obviously hasn't been able to fall back on lately.

Back on topic, I have a wife who lets me play golf twice a week on average, so in that respect there are no issues, but when it comes to throwing away god money on meaningless purchases she puts her foot down a bit more. I've largely got around this problem by getting new stuff from local pro shop and putting it on my account, which I pay off as I win vouchers in weekend comps. At least that what I would have her believe in theory. In reality, I go by a similar strategy to dano. I squirrel money away here and there and have a small fortnightly surplus from my mortgage account that she doesn't have access to, which tops up my meager winnings enough to tide me over in golf equipment. Luckily for me I'm at a stage where I'm really happy with my current bag setup and don't really have a need for anything new, and especially any large purchases which would be hard to cover with my current financial plan.

Thanks for the sympathy. Mine got me to America. I guess I was blinded by that. Well, that and her tits. I also got bored quickly with women who weren't challenging. And sex in the midst of a fight can be pretty good.

But I recognized the error of my ways a few years back. Problem is, here in Orange County there are few who aren't selfish and high maintenance and they're usually ethnic. Which is fine for me these days.

My wife doesn't say much since I am fairly responsible about spending. Otherwise I usually get what I want and worry about consequences later.

I've got side accounts. In fact I started one right around the time of my annual pay increase a couple years back. Had the entire pay raise put into that account direct deposit. Told the old lady that we didn't get increases that year. The money has been accumulating, but I can't spend it. She looks through my golf bag all the time and would notice a new club.

My wife has got it pretty good. I pay for everything. She is working semi part time at 4 days a week and still makes a decent salary. She can spend spend spend as long as I don't hear any crap about me spending a mortgage payment every month out at the SPCC.
It's a good situation in that we live below our means and don't live paycheck to paycheck.

Let us know when you grow a pair. This is something you and NAH have in common. Perhaps you two could confide in each other and/or seek joint counselling?

They're the personification of evil. You must stand up to evil. Or you will lose your soul. We spend a couple of minutes a day at most thinking about what we want out of the relationship. They spend 24 hours a day thinking about how to manipulate us.

Our dads taught us almost nothing about how to deal with them. Their moms raised them to create a slave that could service them, their daughter and their grandkids, and sometimes their extended family. We're unprepared to deal with them in a committed situation.

The best we can hope for is to be able to harbor the kind of delusion that convinces us our woman is different than what I'm describing. Right!! Although I've noticed some on this site are on that Kool-Aid. Drink up!!

Yeah...I'd like to get some new woods. Perhaps I'll just go and buy them and keep them in my office at work. I'll keep them there until they are scuffed up enough to pass as my old clubs. Then I'll switch them out.

    LOL

Listen Wiggle Texasjeff provided the solution in this very thread:

I usually get what I want and worry about consequences later.

Now you and NAH man up and go and get those new clubs you want immediately!

We will be deeply disappointed if you don't. I'm sure I speak for all GR regulars when I say this with all sincerity!

Yesterday I was emailed a statement about my Marriott Reward Points Balance. I had a little over 71,000 points. I made the mistake of telling the old lady about them. Apparently they are redeemable for golf equipment. I had enough to pretty much get anything I wanted. She's confiscated the points and is using them for an 8 night stay in a Marriott hotel instead.

Eh...it saves me money this way. It's not like the vacation she's planning wouldn't have happened anyway. I just saved about $1500.

That's good. You're getting your long repressed anger and frustration out. Now if you could just aim it in the right direction.

    So far no progress there.

We will be deeply disappointed if you don't. I'm sure I speak for all GR regulars when I say this with all sincerity!
I'm not actually as under the thumb as Wiggle appears to be. I still get the stuff I really want, I'm just not given free reign to go ho'ing. I am a bit more like TJ, I get the stuff and then either hope she doesn't notice the new gear, or tell her I'm paying for it with vouchers. Every club in my bag has been purchased within the last year, and I even got myself a new carry bag the other day, which I justified by saying carrying your clubs is better exercise than pulling them (which I must say is the case as after my first round with the new bag I woke up the next day feling like I had been to the gym).

Zo, you should seriously consider writing a book on this topic. Not only would it be good therapy and an outlet for your pent up frustration, I actually think it would be a good read. Your writing style would lend itself well to such a cynical topic. My uggestion for a working title would be "Dump that bitcch now and learn to live again".

Not officially married, but settled down with a missus and kid so as far as the family court is concerned, I'm as good as married and open to all the exploitation of a married guy. Don't think I will actually do the deed of tying the knot any time soon. Weddings just freak me right out.

I didn't expect to hook some of you with my women-bashing bait. Just to show there's no hard feelings, I want to upload a video of my dog, trained to be extra kind to the women that enter my house.

You'll see I'm actually very warm and sensitive towards women and appreciate them enough to not only show them proper hospitality when they're over, but make sure my dog does as well.

I'm with Oldplayer here. This is disappointing in the extreme. Two of our resident tough guys M3W & NAH have both been exposed as the kowtowing, downtrodden whimps that they truly are.

The trash talking tough guy routines they both bring to this forum is obviously just an act they use to vent all the pent up fury & frustration they bring from their browbeaten, henpecked, pu$$y whipped home life where they are completely subservient to their domineering wives. No REAL MAN would go 5 years with the same clubs in the bag. No REAL MAN would bag Wilson fat shafts when he truly covets MP-67's.

You beat me to the punch here Kiwi.
It had strongly occurred to me also that all their tough guy, dominating demeanor was exactly a response to being poor pu$$y-whipped husbands.
I guess the guys with the most forceful opinions have a good reason to feel like they have something to prove.

I did. Right down there in post #44 in this very thread. We all have our gifts here. I'm the relationship expert, you create signatures. Thank you and well done. Wise beyond your years.

After all, why put my clubs in my signature? Who really gives a flying f.uck what clubs I use? As long as they make me happy. That's a metaphor, Kiwi.

This is definitely food for thought. Til now I've had to rely on rough sex. So far, the only thing I've written is a book on Squirting. It's in Italian. Maybe I should have it translated into English to give me more credibility when my book on relationships gets published.

BTW, In Italy, my research on Squirting was considered ground-breaking.

Wiggles you utterly disappoint me. If she's looking through your bag, shame on you for letting her. ALSO, if she's that much of a *****, just go out and buy a whole new bag full of stuff and never let her find that bag. Keep it in the office. You have bag wife thinks you have, and then you have bag you really use. Hell, take the old sticks out from time to time to keep dirt on them so she stays really confused.

Shenanigans. You said you opened up a separate account when you got a pay raise and she knows nothing about it. If you're truly paranoid, withdraw the amount in cash and go into Golf Galaxy and buy your set that way. You may even be able to get the prices down some since you're paying straight cash and they won't be losing 4% or so by paying Visa/Mastercard for the transaction. You have an office, store it all in there and she'll never know.

I think she would be able to sense my happiness and see that something wasn't right. That would lead to an investigation on her part.

I think if you tried it'd be no issue. I mean you're coming home to the same old bag every night, that's just gonna depress you when you can't show off the new, younger, sexier bag.

Wiggles I feel your pain. Not so much with money, but with free time.

Does this sound familiar: How come you can take off early to play golf, but you never take off early to spend time with the family?

Was talking to a retired guy (old retired guy) at a driving range a couple of days ago. The pay is lousy but he gets free golf as a benefit. The thing is he doesn't golf.

Question: Why do you think he's there?

    Hint: His wife's at home.

I'll open this question up to both Canadians and non-Canadians.

I've got a buddy who deals with the wife guilt trip all the time. He has resorted to lying about his golf. He'll bring golf clothes in a gym bag to work and change into workout clothes after golf. He's been busted a few times because he shows up at home wearing workout clothes but smelling like a brewery.
I just tell my wife when I'm playing a little in advance and everything works well. Of course I just have 1 kid as opposed to the 2 kids in the Purist household.

Yup. I always answer..."because it's not any cheaper to hang out with my family on Mon-Thurs afternoons". Still doesn't work.

Number of kids is a very valid point HB. In my office there is a guy who is just as big a golf nut as I am, and we talk golf constantly. He used to play about as much as me until his econd kid came along. Now he gets the occassional 9 hole practice round, and rarely if ever plays competitively. And this guy is a full paid member of a championship course, not a mickey mouse goat track like me. He has told me that the second kid made all the difference.

This book may have been a big deal in Italy, but I'm sure if Not A German was here he would tell us that books on squirting could be found in the childrens section of German book stores. When it comes to depravity, they leave the rest of the world (even the Scandanavians) for dead..

All I can say to this is "youre all some deluded mother fukcers out there." We live in a society and legal system that is desinged to give supreme executive power to the woman in a relationship. As to the domineering wife, my wife is not even domineering. She doesn't need to be. Our system is set up so that even the most understanding of woman can make their partner's life hell on nothing more than a whim. Any guy who thinks his well being is not completely at the fickle whim of the woman in his life is seriously in denial of the facts. I think Lorenzo will aree with me here that woman + legally binding relationship = pussie whipped. We are all pussie whipped, it's just that me and Wiggle are honest enough to acknowledge it.
