Favorite Ball Under $22

In attempt to save money I turned to the top flite gamer and had some pretty good results in comparison to more expensive balls I've used.

What are your favorite "bargin balls"?

I agree SoonerBS, the "old" TF's are rocks ie: 3000 series, Straights, Distance etc. SUCK but do try the D2 Feels or Gamers. I think they'll surprise you. Not that I try to get any spin on my wedge shots but last weekend from roughly 90yrds out with 54*and a D2 it hit, ran foward 3-4 feet and spun back into the ball mark. It was suprising for a $1 ball....

Here are my picks based on materials and technology for the $$$.
Don't listen to fanboys who tell you that
you "get what you pay for"....it is NOT true. You can, however, give away as much money as you are dumb enough to part with readily.

The Go Long balls are surprisingly good balls for the $$$. They were designed by supercomputer to give the lowest drag ball possible. not the highest lift, or most compression...but the lowest drag. They are made my sumitomo rubber which is a SRIXON company.

lots of gơod balls found on golf course... I played them all... Have not paid for golf balls in more than 10 yrs... May be that's why I could not break 75s with my beloved Callaway X16

No I am not a gơơd player, I am a big time hacker... My range is 88-92 at my 130 slope rating local course. I shot 79 twice in my life and can't seem to go lower than that... Well at almost 58 I do not have distance anymore and I have to rely so much on accuracy, which should be the case when I was younger

Gotta agree with NS here, the D2Feel is surprisingly good ... also not bad is the e6. However, most cheap balls are either too hard (and have no feel from 100 yds in) or are inconsitent marshmellows and putt like slugs.

TF Gamer is a great cheap golf ball that performs just fine if you're man enough to compress it - and it's nowhere near as firm as any TF that Spalding ever produced (current gen TF's are made by Callaway - for the unaware).

Wilson Staff Fifty's work for me...They're $19.95. I've used everything from ProV1's to Tour 330RX's, Nikes, you name it. For the money, the Wilson Staffs are pretty darn good.

Q: Why should the average golfer play a $4 ball?

GOUGE: I've long been known as a "cheap is good" kind of guy, so I'll happily defend a golf ball that costs $24 a dozen, or half of what the "tour" balls cost. But decide for yourself. Buy a sleeve of each, and play a round to get a sense of how the balls feel and perform. I did, and the luxury ball mattered on only one shot (around the green) during the entire round. The $2 ball might not be longer or straighter, but it's cheaper. Now, maybe on a par 5 you need your 40-yard third shot to subtly check up. Or perhaps you depend on the flop shot. Or maybe your home course is tuned to PGA Tour course conditions. But if none of these applies to you, why not give the $2 ball a try? One of the leading experts in golf-ball technology in Japan once told me after looking at the relatively large percentage of sales of tour balls in the United States: "Must be a lot of scratch players in America, huh?" Yeah, right.

BOMB: Of course it mattered on only one shot for you—no matter how good a ball is, it doesn't work on skulls and chunks. But enough about your game. I don't hit pitches that subtly check up, nor do I play a course that is tuned to PGA Tour conditions. But I have tried the two-buck golf balls, and here's my conclusion: They're not as good as the $4 balls. I'm not saying they're not worth playing. (There have been more technological advancements in low-cost golf balls than tour-quality balls in recent years, and the $2 ball is a lot better than it was five years ago.) If you're willing to sacrifice performance to save a few bucks, then by all means go with the $2 ball. I just hope I get the chance to meet you at my club and play a nassau where the stakes are car-car-house. Other than price, there really isn't a good reason any player should use the cheap ball over the tour ball. The $2 ball will cost you more than one shot per round around the greens. And even if it is just a stroke, that one shot could be the difference between winning your match, qualifying for an event or posting a career-low score. Of course, next you'll be suggesting people should use golf balls with red stripes because they're free.

This is spot on in NZ too. At my home course all the 10-18 handicap choppers play PRO V1's.

I get to play their lost ones all the time.

I have a mate playing off a +4 handicap using cheap 2-piece distance balls.

I don't even play with any particular ball. I estimate I have found between 300 and 500 balls this year so far. I have never said to myself....."boy I should have really played that *other* ball so that I could have landed 30 inches closer to the green". or "if I only had more backspin, I could have hit that last ball just past the pin and spun it back into the hole". But I am also a pretty terrible player.

It just never happens. I honestly believe people imagine some supernatural powers granted to them by their favorite golf ball. There are differences in golf balls when hit by a robot in controlled environments, but they are pretty subtle for all but the cheapest balls. The variations in 99% of golfer's swings is far far greater than that from ball to ball. Golfers tend to blame their equipment also tend to exaggerate their handicaps greatly, too. Overall I think we are just a superstitious lot.

The pro at my club put it best. Golfers want to play the ball they see the tour pros playing on TV.

I hit cally hx hot bites way better than the tour ix but the tm tp red seems to have more roll on the fairway so i don't know I guess it's prolly mental for the most part but three pieces are way better than 2 pieces

I wouldn't play a premium ball for 4 years because I knew I would lose it before the round was over. In that time frame I played nearly all kinds. I really liked the Precept Laddie and Laddie Extreme balls. I can remember a lady at work giving me a dozen brand new Pro V1s that her husband had received as a Christmas gift from a client. He didn't play golf and she knew I did. I ended up giving them to my friend who has about a 3 or 4 handicap because I knew I would lose them all quick.

The bottom line is that if I were playing the same kind of game as I was back then, I would still not be playing premium balls today. But, my game has changed and sometimes I can go 2 rounds without losing a ball or needing to get out a new one. So, I choose to play the premium balls because to me they just feel and play better.

Agree with you on this one. I bought a dozed TP reds a month ago and still have a sleeve in the trunk. It's mostly because I break out a new ball and before the round is done and the ball is scuffed I find two or three tour level balls. If I find a two piece and it's not one my wife likes I drop it on the next tee box.

When you get to a certain level in golf and you walk the course you have plenty of time to kick the long grass looking for balls. It keeps me from getting pi$$ed off about pace of play or the other jokers laying sod around me.

The only exception is if I'm playing a tight wood lined course then I'll play some of the two piece balls after I loose a couple quality balls.
