    What to Buy???

So i get a $200 gift voucher for xmas from the wife to spend at a golf store (you know the present, i wish you would spend more time with me instead of playing golf but here's your present anyway!!). Problem is, in the last 12 months i've changed all equipment, shoes, bag, buggy etc and have come to the conclusion i don't actually need anything. So, if you had $200 to spend for no other reason than you can........what would you buy?(needs to be golf related!!!)

She would likely have more fun with a dildo vibrator . . . . . do they sell those at the golf shop?

Balls for breaking in that new equipment! No maybe a indoor practice green, you could spend more time with your putter.

Good option Sooner - she already has a starter set(which turned out to be a long term investment for the kids). I'm sure i can rig up a battery device into one of those two thumb together extra wide putter grips. Now i've still got $175 left.

If I had a spare $200 and didn't need equipment I'd go for a couple of shirts, a couple of gloves, a couple of hats and a dozen balls. That's assuming that the shops are still havibg the sales and you get all that in Oz for $200.

You should get some leather iron covers (Texas style w/ tassles) and some golf sandals. Wear them with confidence. I don't do iron covers, but I love these sandals.

I've always wanted some of those, but have never seen any in the pro shop. Must have been big before my time.

They were big with Al Cervick in Caddyshack. Your list of choices reminded me of whenever he first entered the pro shop . . . . .

I got the Caddy Shack reference, that was where I was first alerted to their existence. I wasn't actually channelling Al when I made the post but I can see the parallel now. This classic scene has been referenced in another thread recently. I love the bit where he tips the valet to "park my car, take my bag and hey, put on some weight will ya".

    Sit tight.

The Annual PGA show is last week of January and at that time new items will be released,,,,the OEMS will be rolling out new product making anything out in the stores now, dropping in price for immediate clearance.

Also some new shafts are going to be released that look interesting as well.

My Favorite Story From the Christmas Season

My ex-wife's close male friend got my son a Uroclub for X-Mas. I wasn't there, but apparently everyone started laughing and when he became offended, as it was intended as a serious gift, the group laughing became uncontrollable.

I suggested he give it back to this guy so that it can be returned for a refund, but that before he does, he should use it as a Defaclub.

Contrary to HBs denials, it is an established fact that Fosters hasn't been for sale in Australia for over 20 years. It's just cat's piss that we export to gullible overseas markets who have watched the Men At Work music video.

Kiwi, glad to see you back. In your absence Edgey has taken the baton of anti Australian relations, but it just wasn't the same coming form a Pommy. Nothing personal with Edgey, but over here we don't respect poms enough in any sport to thake their rivalry seriously.

    Get out more?

Are you kidding? I've just spent 14 days in your fine country and every Aussie I met was drinking (and raving about) NZ wines. Well, our white wines at least. I'll concede you do the better Reds but we are catching up. Our Otago Pinot Noir and Hawkes Bay Shiraz/Syrah are top class! Unlike your beers!

Hope you had a nice holiday kiwi. You have been missed. Have had to put up with all sorts of ratbag posters who don't possess your wit or class.
I'm a bit disappointed, you have been in Oz for two weeks and didn't look me up. I guess you don't want to be seen hanging around with an old bloke.

Had a great holiday thanks OP but no time for any golf on this trip I'm afraid. SWMBO had the itinerary chock full with sight seeing, visiting friends, wining & dining and, dare I say it, Boxing Day sales!!!

Australia's wine production has been amongst the best in the world for years. And I find it difficult to believe Aussies would drink white wine. Why would anyone?

If truth be told about beer, German beers crap all over anything produced in Oz or NZ. Aussie and NZ beers are both good enough and easy to drink, but lack the body and flavour of somemof the German varieties.

I findit hard to believe that NZ wiould be within cooee of Australia when it comes to any wines.

Good call here, NAH. A good Paulaner beer in any flavor is a great choice and usually exceeds most other beers from every country.

I have drunk some Foaters and they tasted like dog piss.

I have a fondness for the Labatt Blues from our neighbors up North as well.

I have, but you wouldn't have to leave Sydney to sample any NZ produce. Sydney has been NZ's dumping ground for beer, food and wine (and dead shits) for decades. Ever heard of Bondi Junction?

Must admit my favourite beer at the moment comes from Belgium, apparently first brewed around 1366 - so by my religious expertise this would be close to the very brew that Christ drank!!! But Kiwi if you want a good red then try a Ninth Island Pinot Noir - its about the only thing that makes the rest of OZ claim Tassie as one of its own states!!

The thing I hate about Belgium beers is the song and dance they make about pouring it. A man can die of thirst watching & waiting through that rigmarole - just give me the fukking BEER!!!

Cheers for the red suggestion - I'll keep an eye out for it!

Belgian beers also kick like a mle. Elephant beer is something like 7 or 8%. It sneaks up on you like spirits. You stop drinking and keep getting drunker for the next two hours.

This raises an interesting question. IMO 5% is the ideal strength for a good beer. Anything more and the flavour gets overpowering, anything less and it tastes like weak as water gnats pi$$.

What do you guys reckon. Should this be a poll?

Sure. Next thing you know you'll be telling me how you never go to Outback Steakhouse or wear crocodile boots. And don't give me the vegan excuse because everyone knows that the Aussie definition of vegan is that you don't eat people.

I bet you love the Simpsons episode where all the Aussies throw Fosters cans at the helicopter.

For those who live in US and have money to buy something I'd recommend this. This is the same putter I use, in the same specs. For anyone who drinks the Pelz SBST Kool Aid, you couldn't get a better deal than this.

Have to agree - 5% is right. Less has no flavour, anything above 5.3% is punch up piss!!

I'd say 4.5% to 5.5%. I've had heaps of beers around 4.6% that were good, and Coopers red is about 5.6% and that's a great drop. American beers are around 3 - 3.5% from what I've seen.

Ya yer Budweiser and Coors crap brands are right there. I drink Bud Light more than anything else but if I want a real beer I'll drink a Blue Moon (Belgian White) or a more "microbrew" type of beer. The wife and I will somestimes escape the summer heat in Sacramento and go to Fort Bragg. That's the home of North Coast Brewery and makers of some fine brews. Old Rasputin is a really good dark ale at 10.5%. They limit you on how much you can drink while you're there but we befriended one of the employees there and he told us about the neighborhood pizza joint that the locals/regulars go to. OMG! They had no less than 40 microbrews on tap. Everything written on a chalkboards on the wall with the alcohol content next to the name. Everything from "Kilt Lifter" to "Death and Taxes" to "Arrogant Bastard"
We were like kids in a candy store. Between that and mixing it up with the locals makes for an outing we look forward to every summer......Oh ya, the ocean and scenery are always nice too....

This is an example of a pretty good threadjack in true GR tradition.
From a rough count I've got about 18 posts on topic and the rest (27) mainly about beer.
    Great work guys.
It seems that it's the vets who are the best threadjackers. I caught Dorkman at it last week and Kiwi has lead the charge here.

I'm a big fan of stout too. There's a hotel in the wine region north of Sydney that has it's own micro brewery on site. They make their own dark ale there that is one of the finest brews I've ever tasted. It's about 6% and costs about double what a regular tap beer would cost, but worth every cent. They have about 12 original brews on tap there. Heaven for beer connoieseurs. One of these days I'm gonna visit a mate who lives near there and sit at a table and sample every one of them

Honestly give the Steinlager Pure a try if you get a chance. It's a great drop. The Aussies I met that had tried it loved it.

I know I don't usuallylike ot agree with a Kiwi about anything, but all Steinlager is good. I've been drinking that stuff for years. Haven't had the Pure but will give it a taste next time I see it.

Yes of course, but it is freely available in Aussie. He'd probably struggle to find it in the South Island though. All those 'Real Southern Men' drink SPEIGHTS. It stands for:

If you like the original I'm sure you will enjoy the Pure. It has really taken the market by storm over here and has ripped the guts out the the Heineken & Stella Artois (both overrated IMO) market. A lot of Kiwi's don't like the original but love the Pure. Also it doesn't give the nasty hangovers that the original was notorious for. A word of warning though, don't confuse the Pure with a new gnats pi$$ mid strength version called Steinlager Edge. I don't know what they were thinking. It is the equivalent of Mizuno making cast OS POS SGI shovels.

I may be in the minority, but I can't stand any Belgian white beer. Just thought of that grainy piss water makes me want to brush my teeth.
My inlaws live about 2 miles from Magic Hat brewery in VT. They put out some decent stuff. Other than that, I'm all about British stuff. My dad likes German beer and always has some new Hitler brew when I go over, but it's hit and miss.

Ya the Belgian White has a distinct buttery flavor. I like it but not all the time. Hefiwiesen is also good. It all depends on the mood.

Any of the unfiltered stuff is terrible IMO. I gets caught in your throat like Tiger's jizz in a hooker.
I heard a very interesting bit of news on sports talk radio last night (Myers and Hartmann). There is some new Tiger chick who wants to write a tell all book. The teaser is that Tiger would often engage in 3 ways. With another dude. Not joking.

Well, I can finally join this thread as I don't have sh.it to say about beer, other than if there was a group of people that ate manure, I'm sure they'd claim some tasted better than others. (Italian joke disclaimer.)

As to Tiger, I've suspected this ever since Stevie started walking down the fairway with a limp. Actually, I'm thinking more two way. If the woman was only there to give Stevie a belt to bite on, then I'm not sure it was really a three way.

If it turns out she was wearing a strap on and gave them both a belt to bite on, then it would have been a three way. Hope this clears things up.

I'm not a fan either. The basic lager like Stella Artois is ok but overrated. All that white beer/wheat beer is absolute cr@p IMO as are all the girly flavored beers like for example the cherry flavoured Kriek beer. Only for chicks and f@gs.

I love Grappa! I have to be in the mood (read drunk) but it's great stuff if you get good quality grappa. I think we've had this discussion before Zo. I'm not sure I would want to start an evening out drinking grappa unless I didn't want to taste the food or I was at my in-laws. I wouldn't drink it around an open flame.

There's only a few liquors I don't like. First rule is it can't be sweet - no Liqueur, or schnapps. I can't drink Scotch. Don't know why but it makes me into a sour mean drunk and it's sad because I love it. I don't like to mix drinks, a martini or a Manhattan is about as mixed as it gets. I would rather drink whiskey neat then on the rocks. I almost forgot, Jack sucks.

Grappa is good - i had another drink with some italian people in sydney once - i think it was called lemoncelo or something like that which tasted pretty good. Mind you, on the same night i was drinking a chinese whiskey that was infused with a snake in the bottle. Tasted alright until they showed me the bloody snake then i could taste it all night - even tho i've never eaten one before!

Had to weigh in on this beer action finally....my most favorite Aussie beer was Castlemaine xxxx, I went through a big 4 X binge in the mid 90's....The kind of drinking I used to do in my better days was some serious crack one at 7 in the morning and be on a boat all day fishing, with no water and no food (until we caught fish) and the only way to sustain that action was with some kind of cheap American lager like Bud Light....I could drink 30 in a day easily, then actually talk a girl into sleeping with me that night..Oh my God I used to drink like a fu cking animal in my 20's.....I can't anymore, now I drink about 4-6 beers a night and it's strictly Coors original. I have to get up every day at about 4:45am and Coors banquet is the only beer that won't bother me at that time of day. If I drank 6 "micro" a$$ beer brews I would be
fu cked the next morning...Coors treats me right and I bet it will treat you right too!

The biggest problem with Stella, at least herein Oz, is that insist on selling it in sissy faggy looking farking glasses. No Aussie homophobic beer drinking slob could possibly consider it.

Zo, if I start racing top fuel dragsters and need some extra speed, I'll ask for a recipe. Maybe it's just the quality of the homemade stuff I've tasted, but that's about all grappa is good for IMO.
