FD, should I take this as a sign?

The other day I was crusing ebay and saw a local pick up Ping Eye 2 sand wedge (the square grooved version). I put in a top bid of $25 (uit was on 10 at the time) and left it, hoping to go back towards the end of the auction. I just went on ebay and saw the auction ended and it wnt for $34. I would have been prepared to pay higher than that, but should In take this as a sign that Ping are just not meant for me? I'm figuring if I was meant to have a Ping sw I would have subconciously known to log in before the auction ended and put in a winning bid. I guess I'll never know how good the Eye 2 wedges are, they hardly ever come up at any price.

They are re-releasing them in February. Looks pretty similar to the original design...probably won't have square grooves.

I saw these today on Craigslist. Does anyone think that these would be a good deal for $300? They are described as being in great condition with brand new Ping grips. They look pretty clean to me and of course I get to see them before buying. If they are truly great with no scratches or dings I'd be interested.

NAH, I would strongly recommend the Ping Eye 2 SW. Keep trying on Ebay and $34 is easily worth it.

You really need to warn people before you put pictures like this up on the board. Now I have to clean the puke off my keyboard.

NAH - you should take it as an Omen and stick to GFF. One the flip side it would have been a nightmare to have to fork $25 over for the misery of getting an eye 2.

The only thing you had to clean off the keyboard was drool. You know you want to play the Ping Eye 2s but you're too embarassed to admit it. You need to eat some humble pie.

If I had humble pie, which I didn't, I would have tasted it twice after looking at that picture. I must admit the only thing worse than seeing the back of an eye 2 is the top line of a eye 2. Fugly.

I know it's the wrong thread, but Humble Pie were a great band. I don't eat humble pie but I'm happy to listen to it.

Didn't they open for that group named Cake? Get it?

Speaking of pie, remember that horrible hairband named Warrant? They had a song called Cherrie Pie. I could never figure out what that was about.

It was about scantily clad hot chicks smearing themselves with jelly. What's not to get?

Beauty in the eye of the beholder, these guys have a right to fawn over those clubs. Besides, unless something like that comes out of your own ass, you really can't appreciate it.

If they're so bad, how come they have the best resale value by far on Ebay? You show me another set of irons on Ebay that were produced back in 1985 that sell today for $200 in stainless and $400 in BeCu. A new set of Ping Eye 2s will auction for more today than they sold for back then. A Ping Eye 2 square groove becu lob wedge goes for around $225 on Ebay if it's in excellent condition.

Meanwhile, Mizuno MP-32 irons can be had for under $200 on Ebay.

Because only 22% of all golfers every break 90 all the other 78% browse Ebay looking for PING irons . . . . . .

Whether FD ackowledges it or not, Ping are definitely perceived by the broader golfing community as game improvement irons for hackers. I personally know 2 scratch golfers who play Ping so I'm not saying they are exclusively clubs for hackers, but that's the perception. And as you correctly pointed out, hackers make up a large part of the golfing fraternity, so by the basic tenets of supply and demand Ping stuff is going to go higher on ebay as more buyers wil be competing for them.

We all know, or at least should know, that winning the equipment popularity contest means that particuar piece of equipment sucks and is used by weak-minded fools who think marketing b.ulls.hit will compensate for their bombastic swing deficiencies.

Those that dig deeper aren't deceived by market forces generated from Gomer the tobacco chewin', immigrant hatin', sod chopper laying, bible thumpin', big mac eatin average non-GR golfer. The Gomers will never realize that NAH bought arguably the best driver of all time for a song while they paid many times that for something that won't sell in next year's yard sale.

I pray for those fools, and you.

Because they are so f'ing hard they look as good, relatively of course, as they did in '85. The BeCu's are probably because the material can no longer be used to make clubs.

The only way a single wedge is going for $225 is because it's a collectors item.

Ping has four models of irons: S56, i15, Anser, G15 and K15. The first three are meant for better players and the last two are game improvement. This is basically the same setup as the other manufacturers yet Ping resale is always higher.

Except for the fact that Ping Eye 2 was basically the first perimeter weighted, game improvement iron to make a splash on the golf scene stricktly due to the fact that the clubs worked better than others. They weren't popular when introduced and Ping wasn't one of the top golf lines in the industry. So, your logic is flawed. People bought the Eye 2 back then because of word of mouth that this new club was revolutionary.

I did get mine for a song, but I must admit I got lucky to pick it up for that price. It was listed at the end of a relative flood Rs on ebay here. Usually they don't come up very often and go for higher than any other driver their vintage. I have noticed that on US ebay Rs are very high priced compared to other second hand stuff. The R is a genuine collectors item for golfers with game, I still notice them in heaps of low markers bags even after all these years, far more than Eye 2 irons or wedges I might add.

But you're saying something different now. I was questioning your associating golf equipment popularity with quality/effectiveness. Now you're agreeing with me, while saying my logic is flawed. This is like the discussions I used to have with my ex when we were married. And to think I prayed for you and the others.

NAH, didn't you say that you once owned Ping Zings? Maybe it was Dave P. Anyway, there's a guy that wants to sell me a set of red dots in new condition for $200. Just curious if you liked them. Thought I might try them out.

Hey, I'll be the first to admit the Zings aren't the prettiest in the world. Pings are an acquired taste...similar to fine coffee or a vintage Merlot.

I had a set of Zing knockoffs which I actually liked a lot, and regretted selling. I once took a demo set of Zing 2s out and hinestly didn't like them at all. At the time I was playing the TPS 7.0 and in all honesty the Powerbilts had muach better feel, the Pings were harsh and very clicky, but it could have come down to a fitting issue, as I had the Powerbilts custom fitted and the Zings were a different shaft, length and lie. Thinking back to my Zing knockoffs, I must admit they were a very sweet feeling iron, had an outstanding piercing trajectory and ball flight, and I could back up a 7 iron with them. Going by the quality of the knockoffs, I would say the real deal Zings, if fitted fro you, would be a steal at $200.

Today I went over to this guys house to look at his Zings and he had a whole garage filled with used golf clubs. A lot of them are in near new condition. I couldn't believe how many clubs this guys had. He had a new set of Ping Zing 1-LW that he will sell me for $200. He had several sets of Eye 2s and one was brand new orange dot that is the european version. I'm going back tonight to look again. Anyone need anything in particular? THis guy had tons of stuff.
