Don't you think if he wanted to blog, he'd start the thread himself? Like that Crowbar kid with his video game nonsense. Maybe HH really did eat that yellow snow. That's a tough thing to live down, especially if there were witnesses.

Not necessarily, he's new. Some people need a little encouragement.

I just don't want to go the rest of my life not knowing if it would have made the difference.

Gotta bump this just in case huskyhater may have missed it.

Opportunities such as this one deserve a second chance.

I hope he didn't take my STFU noob comment too seriously. While learning the ropes it's important to ensure that they don't strangle you. I hope huskyhater has taken all the necessary precautions to avoid such a fate.

    Thoughts and prayers, HH.

Ok here we go! Probably won't be everyday-I have a job like most of you don't and have to tend to that, but I'll try and get on here at least once a week.
FIRST BLOG-tiger wood spitting on the green...do you think its okay...or do you (like me) think he's a disrespectful, punk 'N' for doing it? I mean other guys have to walk and putt on that same green after he spews his slobber there.

That's understandable. Most guys that work at restaurants don't have time to check websites.

HH, glad you're back. I'm not troubled by his spitting, that is if you take it at face.

But in Eldrick's case, it's a metaphor. He's saying: "I'm royalty, why won't the ball go in the hole they way I'd like? Why doesn't everyone still adore me? I spit in the face of all forces that don't bow down to me."

I just think it's time for us to spit back.

I'd like to do that to him too, never have like him. But of course than we'd have 'stevie' (what kind of MAN goes by 'stevie'?) chasing after us.

I've said it here before, honest to god, I'd pay Stevie to come after me. Girlie tough is not enough.

Exactly. If he's at Riv this week I'd be tempted to go with a camera around my neck. To set the trap, I'd put on some nerd glasses, in fact a complete nerd get up. Somebody really needs to scour his teflon.

Instead of the nerd glasses just grease the hell out of your hair put on a shirt and leave about 3 buttons open, hang some bling on your chest and go as an Italian tourist. And have some thing that endorses the meatball bros.

I didn't see the episode but suspect he spit near the edge of the green. Since he was playing so poorly, it is likely that most players would have been closer to the hole and his sputum would not have been in their line of play. In the same sports & spitting vein, how about team sports played on fields like baseball. The batter is chewing tobacco and spits big brown gobs in front of the plate and he tops the next pitch and the ball rolls two feet in front of the plate. The catcher has to freaking barehand the ball in the spit pond. Or in football, you line up against your opponent, he blocks you to the ground and, because the play went to the other side no officials or tv cameras area pointed your way and the MF spits into your eyes through your facemask. WTF? All things considered, I'd say Tiger's infraction was uncalled for but not that big a deal. Any hockey players ever spit? Blood, I guess sometimes.

Tiger hasn't played an event at Riviera since he turned pro, has he? I could never understand that since its almost right in his hometurf.

He was there a couple of consecutive years not too long ago. It's not a great course for wild shots. The last time I saw him there he kept blowing his nose on Stevie's towel at the range. Stevie acted like nothing happened.

He had alot of green around him and it was a big pile of disrespect to players behind him that he let go. There's too many tiger apologists out there including the media, they're afrid if he eevr gets good again he'll snub them-which he would, he's a jerk. But if ALL the media said what they really think about him, then maybe we wouldn't have to see him on tv when he's in like 45th place!

Phil's from there too, he plays there every year. Its called caring enough to give back. I won't deny it, I'm a Nicklaus guy and I don't want him beating his records just because of the catcalls from the galleries since tiger dragged them to the course. If you don't respect the game then get the hell out-and tiger is kinda out!

This week? Man it'd be cool to see Couples do well. He's always gonna be a threat against the 'kids', especially in Majors. Dustin Johnson, Phil, Holmes, Imada.

First tournament I ever attended was the PGA at Riv, in '95 I believe. Nicklaus played in it but his skills were declining and he didn't exactly light it up. After his round he went to the range. A group of us stood there and watched him practice. He was hitting it s.hitty and was frustrated. At one point he looked at us and said "Any of you guys think you can do better, you can have a go." A couple of shots after that he declared: "Well, 1 out of 4 isn't bad." I spoke up and said: "For us maybe, not for the greatest ever." I've always regretted that I said that. He acted as though he didn't hear it but I sensed I hurt his feelings.

Since none of us have jobs we'll be anxiously awaiting your return. You'd probably lower your handicap if you bagged Ping Eye 2s. That's what I play and I'm the best ballstriker on this forum. Any forum for that matter. Just because I live in a converted shed doesn't mean I can't get out and play golf.

Even though I've advocated for Tiger ridding himself of Steve and getting a new porter, I like Steve. Anyone who has a passion for racing cars and has the time and money to actually do it is cool in my book. Its just that relationships like Watson and Bruce Edwards that lasts until death parts them is the exception rather than the rule Steve could certainly get himself hooked up with the bag of a younger up-and-comer who might not be the next coming of Tiger Woods, but would play well enough to keep Steve in spare wheels, tires, engines and gear boxes. If I were caddie for someone like Tiger, I would be carrying some good firepower and a spare mag or two 24/7.

Okay kids, Sat night, tippin' a few and wondering.....who ya rooting for.......Freddie Couples or Na (both 1 down to Baddeley)? Couples-the 'old' (James Bond of pro golf right now-cool) guy, or Na-seeking a win for his ailing dad? Even though I love Couples I won't be disappointed if Na beats him-both great story lines. PLUS..........we can't forget Baddeley leading (cool guy)............whoya rooting for? Sit back and enjoy, this is my favorite stop before The Masters-watch out for Freddie and Dustin Johnson there (Masters). I'm calling THAT right now. Enjoy guys.

I hate to say it but I believe that Baddeley will play very baddily tomorrow with errant drives and missed putts. If you ask me if NA will win my answer is "nah". I think Couples will win by a couple.

I think Fred will fold due to the cold and wet weather's effect on his back and he'll shoot a 78 or WD. Too bad because I love to watch him hit fulll shots. It is a great rythm to emulate for me. I like Na and it would be a feel-good event for the LA Korean community. Baddely? I could root for him more if he'd shave before his tee time. Looks too scuzzy to hoist the 2' x 4' check. He could do it though since today's the biggest event of the year in Daytona and Aaron's father was a crew chief on Mario's team. What did he win? Hilton Head some years ago? If you can play well there with those miniscule greens and tight-as-a-16 year old fairways, you can play Riviera.

  37. #37
Agree with both of you, love to see Couples win if his back holds out. Baddeley? Ya never know whats gonna happen there, and he DOES ned to shave.

Guys, who's hat do you like better (or worse)-Ryan Moores welders cap (or whatever he wears), or Rickie Fowlers flat brimmed job?

Ricky Fowler makes Ryan Moore look sharply dressed by comparison. Like the overweight guy looking for someone even more corpulent to stand next to.

Should be an interesting final. Good point Mongrel, about the cold. At least he'll have a late start as it's probably in the 30-s now. But it may not warm up alot today. I followed Fred there a few years ago when he had an early start and it wasn't pretty. We've also seen him blow alot of short final day putts though he's putting great right now.

Na will choke today, that's what he does. Kikuyu and Poa are grasses that are particularly unforgiving to chokers and favor those who've played them alot.

I gotta say, I don't get the Ricky Fowler thing. I know they are trying to market the look as young and cool and I get that, but other than the Justin Bieber haircut, I don't see young people wearing monochromatic bright orange suits and hats that rappers wore five years ago. I actually think Ryan Moore's look is pretty cool, but I am a product of the grunge era, so the homeless look doesn't bother me as much as it seems to bother everyone else. And what's up with you grandpas demanding everyone have a shave to play golf? In stroke play, a close shave gives a player no strategic advantage.

Oh yeah, and Badds wins. Couples chokes as usual. He carries a lot of guilt that manifests itself as back pain and missed 3 footers.

I always remember Allenby playing Riviera really well but he's too far back. When its cold with that heavy air, someone like him who's not afraid to hit a three wood to 18 and able to get up and down could take it.

I think the golf apparel world is in the toilet. Must be run by homosexuals. Can't blame Ricky 'cause he's a young kid and has the stones to take their money and wear whatever they foist on him. But he's got to really play or he'll come off a a joke of a fop. I think Ryan More's look is atrocious. He would be laughed at at any club I used to belong to and on the public courses I play. No matter how well he plays. I like the guy a lot better after I read a recent interview in a golf magazine. As far as hats, only a guy like Ricky Barnes being real big and masculine looking can get away with a funky hat. Anyone remember Kirk Triplett? Always reminded me of a douche bag with that bucket hat. I liked Norman's Aussie hats and had one for awhile but the damn thing got in the way of my backswing too much.

  43. #43
I would wear (even though I don't like either) Morre's hat before Fowlers. Read an article on Fowler-he dates Olin Brownes daughter btw, and it actually sounds like he's a well liked kid on the Tour that shows quite a bit of respect to his fellow (and all older) competitors. But that clown suit..........................but like mongrel says he gets paid for it. And GO FREDDIE GO today! Gotta root for one of the few guys from the northwest even though he's smart enough not to live here anymore!

One more thing, when shafts are bent (I measure to 2* flat), do they stay bent or do you have to get them re-bent (so to speak) every once in awhile? Does the metal stay bent or revert back to what it was? Any experience/feedback? Thanks, GO FRED GO today!

  45. #45
And before anybody jumps it, I DO know they bend the hosel, not the shaft.........................beat'cha to it! Have a good day and a few beers.

Cast clubs will stay bent. Soft forgings will change with play but not necessarily back to what they were. If you play a lot on hard turf or practice on mats forged heads would need to be checked every year or two.

Gotta love that chip-in birdie by Couples on 2 after hitting a great approach off a bad lie in the rough. I'm around 45 minutes behind on tape but Kevin Na looks like he's gasping for air.

I've heard that cast clubs have a tendency to want to go back to their original lie angle over time. Not so, says op?

THANK YOU, helps alot. I'm looking at getting some new irons (playing with Cle Quad Pro's-time for a change even though they still work good for me) and was wondering if I bought standard and had them bent if they'd stay there. Thanks again.

Riv is a real test, just look at the wilting that took place. Baddeley's whole game looked solid and he played gosh darn well under pressure.

Unfortunately, there's a reason Couples doesn't have alot more wins, considering the talent. Maybe he gets really up towards the beginning of the tournament because of the local talent and then falls flat towards the end, because of the local talent.

It would be kind of cool to see Baddeley really emerge, Australia could really use something positive associated with it. It might even inspire Rooboy to break 100.

I too don't understand why Couples can't put it together in the final round. He made some horrible mistakes today with the biggest one, IMO, on 10. His driver was off today and it got him into trouble on several occassions.

That is a myth. There are plenty of mythical beliefs in golf. For example: you can hit drives further by creating topspin. what players percieve as topspin is actually lack of spin.

Let's face it; Couples is old and without a cart he can't handle 72 holes in four days. If your over 50 and competing on the real tour you should be allowed a cart (or a long putter).

Bad's showed and played well enough to win. I do like his putting routine. I've talked myself out of many putts by taking too long. I might give his routine a go next time out.

I hope Na disappears. He gets old to watch play and fast. Which is bad because he is skow.

I didn't watch it but I'm assuming Badds thanked Jesus for bestowing this win upon his unworthy arse. Not sure if he ever wonders why it takes the Lord over 4 years between pay offs for all that praying. Not to mention the tything.

My wife asked me if that weird looking guy with the bad hair was dating Tiger's ex-wife. They do kind of look the same standing there...I was like "nah", but how sweet would it be if someone else on tour started dating Elin and she was in the crowd each week...maybe even holding Tiger's kids.

That was Elin standing with Mrs. Badds by the 18th green. Holding Badd's kids. She got bored with tundra life in the land of eternal winter darkness and bopped back to LA leaving the semi-mo's with Kultida down in Eluethra. Badd's caddie is tapping into it with regularity.

Are you certain about this? It seems to me that if you hit the ball on the upswing then physics would dictate that the ball would have overspin. The loft of the club would send the ball upward. People say that overspin would send the ball immediately downward. However, clubhead speed and the loft of the driver would send it upward. Am I wrong?

You are wrong. The loft is what causes back spin.

I can see that if you make contact with the ball on the downswing. However, with a driver, if you are hitting up on the ball don't the two counteract one another? Am I wrong?

Technically you could probably hit the ball above the top half with the driver and put some topspin on it, but it would basically be a cold top.

The biggest problem is with Ping irons. For example a set of Ping Eye 2 Red dots with the TT ZZ lite shaft are really Blue dots that were bent to Red Dots after being cast in the factory as Blue dots. Over time they will bend back from Red dots to Blue dots and when this happens you had better have some blue paint ready to paint the red dot blue. Not a problem for Ping players who usually have an abundance of spare paint available from painting their putters.

Mizuno irons don't have enough time to bend back. They wear out after a year of use. After a year's worth of use the chrome starts coming off and the grooves are no longer sharp. After two years they look like a rusty garden tool.

You mean versus Ping irons that look like a garden tool when they come off the production line and being as hard as rock still look identical 10 years later?

The only difference is the old one will have G2 stamped on it and the new one will have something like G25 stamped on it.

You guys have persuaded me. I'm about to go to the course for a round. I'm going to bring my Ping G-15 with me. If I drive the snot out of the ball, I'll be a Ping fanboy. If I hit a few wild ones, I'm siding with Kiwi here.

You are right and that's why I love them because the guys who play them and wear the chrome off freak out when the brown oxidation appears after they play in soggy weather without wiping them down after each shot or they hit rocks and the top chrome layer chips and they think the clubs are no good anymore and they trade them in. For people like me to be able to buy a set of $1,000 irons for $100. A couple of mine had those bag chatter and stone shot nicks with the chrome standing up. A couple of minutes with my Dremel and buffing stone attached and they're smooth as an infant arse. My set must be 15-18 years old with the chrome almost off the sweet spots on PW, 8, 7 and 5 but the grooves are still good enough for a bit of backspin with the shorter ones and spin-buzz off the longer ones using a relatively high spin ball like a Z-Star or Gamer. I takes a real range rat with a tour-caliber iron swing to wear those grooves out.

After four years you can't tell it was once a Mizuno iron. It's just a big glob of rusted metal. I'm the kind of guy that hits the sweetspot every single time. The last thing I want is for my irons to have a dent in the middle of them from the combination of my swing speed and expert ballstriking. I only hit off grass at country clubs and the sand doesn't do the forged irons any good. You muni course players may have it a little better. Well, um, better as far as iron wear.

You gotta be a fan of somebody that's having that much fun. Even if he is wearing a tail.

That era had talent and icons. This era has nothing. Seriously, where's the music?

My MP-33s have the chrome wore off on the sweet spot. I'd like to say I did it, but they were like that whenever I bought them off Ebay. I was worried about it effecting ball flight, but they hit as true as any clubs I have. I have been playing them for the last week (6 rounds of golf) and they perform great and I like the looks of clubs that have been broken in.

One thing I have noticed though, and maybe you guys can help me out with this, I have to use one club more with the MP-33s than I do with my 67s and 52s. Is it because the MP-33s have the standard lofts while the 67s and 52 might be juiced lofts like a lot of modern clubs are these days? It makes no difference to me, I just use one more club. I haven't ever played the 33s as much as I have been lately. Maybe my swing is getting more sound, but I am hitting them with greater consistency than I ever have before and I love the way they perform and feel.

Maybe my swing is getting more sound, but I am hitting them with greater consistency than I ever have before and I love the way they perform and feel.
The one thing I noticed about the Mp-33 is the high ball flight. In fact, I noticed that with all of the MP line I had tried until I hit the MP-67. If you think about it, with the shape of the MP-14 and MP-33 most of the weight is at the bottom of the club. The MP-33 is a larger blade than the MP-67. Both are good irons but I think the MP-67 is a little harder to hit. Do you have the same shafts in all of them. MP-52 definitely has stronger lofts.

Thanks Kiwi, it is on this course. Have done it twice before on a much easier nine hole course i used to be a member at. Not sure if physically i have made the swing adjustments that i need to, but i have in my head lol! Concentrating on swinging more upright in my backswing and pushing away/extending my right arm in the backswing. Felt weird with the driver for a few holes, but was hitting nice little fades with reasonable distance. Worked a treat with the irons tho, about the same distance but with a much straighter and higher ball flight. I've also adopted Badds putting routine, and whilst i missed quite a few birdie chances i left everything stone dead.

As usual, you couldn't be more wrong. OP was right, top spin or over spin doesn't exist in golf. A physical impossibility with a full swing with the driver. Hitting up on the ball obviously reduces backspin, but there is still positive loft at impact, to get top spin you would have to hit with negative loft like when a tennis player hits with the top of the racket closing as they come right over the ball loft to get the ball to come down as it travels. With a golf shot you need the ball to take off with lift, and the only way to get lift is to have back spin.

Mp 52's start at 21* for 3 iron, 24* 4 iron,27* 5 iron then 4* gaps through to a 47*pw. Most juiced up sets have a 44* pw i think. Not sure what the lofts of the of the other sets are.

67's are the same as your 52's. 33's are one degree weaker.

If I throw a ball on a straight line and hit a concrete wall that has 9 degrees of slope the ball will bounce back at a higher angle. There is no backspin causing the lift. The ball bounced back higher simply because of the angle of the surface it hit. The same thing would be true with a driver.

I believe the MP-67's are also 1 degree weaker than the MP-52's i.e. the same as the MP-33's.

    3 22*
    4 25*
    5 28*
    6 32*
    7 36*
    8 40*
    9 44*
    PW 48*

The MP-52s are the same loft increments but start with a 21* 3 iron and 47* PW.

In my mixed set of MP-30 & 33s the 3-5 iron are 21-27* and the 6 iron is 32* - PW 48* but the transition is seamless and I don't notice any loss of distance compare to my old R7s or my Z101s which are the 21*-47* lofts.
I chose the road less traveled.

Now where the f#ck am I?

Hey if it's working! Shooting 79 is a good score so it was obviously working successfully. I know what you mean about the birdie putts. I shot 81 the other day and there were two three putts and a couple of other short putts left out there. Frustrating when the driver and irons are working but the putter won't cooperate!

I recently re-shafted my MP 14's from DG S300 to Dynalite Gold S300's in order to be able to hit them better due to the lighter weight and softer playing flex. It worked well but I found that I hit all of them substantially higher than before the shaft change. Then I dialed in their swingweights pretty precisely going from about D7 PW to D2 3 iron in graduated decreases in a MOI match fashion. This involved adding some lead tape to the backs of all except the PW, 8 and 6. I put the tape up above the bottom mass of the head, centered about 5 grooves from the bottom groove. I noticed the couple of times I was able to hit them off grass that the flight has come down on the ones with tape about halfway between the former flight and unweighted lighter shaft flight. The added weights were only 2-4 grams per iron so those heads seem to be pretty sensitive to weighting. And I would rather apply the tape than bend the lofts stronger.

You were not entirely wrong. Sometimes in bending the hosel the shaft inside also bends. This can ruin your day if you are trying to pull the shaft for a re-shaft. You may have to break it off and drill out the remainder inside the hosel. And then re-bore or ream the hosel before a new shaft will fit properly.

He would have been on smack back then, but he's been clean for quite a while now (I think). Apparently he replaced smack with exercise, which would explain his lean ripped physique at the age of 60 or so.

Topic of the day...how many of you have been so macho in the past that you've ordered STIFF shafts in your clubs-and realized (like I've always believed) that at least 95% of amateurs should use regular flex? I'm kind of a club connisseur and see that most clubs for sale (used) are stiff flex-they are macho buying them and then can't hit'em. Are you one of 'them'..........? BTW, I'm gonna buy new, just noticed this on ebay.

Truth be told, I was personally fitted for a driver, and it turned out I needed a senior flex. I was like wtf, but it worked because of the way I loaded the shaft slow... It works for me.

Based on your writings, you are a middle aged, mid-fifties @sshole, with a small d!ck complex, compensating for the testosterone you have been losing since you turned forty...

    You hate the Huskies?

    I hate your retarded @ss!

HH, Spank's opinion carries alot of weight around here. Before you get despondent, he is a fair man and can be won over. Are you up for the challenge?

At least you have something truly special going for you. Here on GR, a 100 post thread is considered to be pretty special. It's kind of like a hole in one or maybe a foursome not on the course but behind closed doors with three female playing partners.

So with only one post to go, congratulations on an impressive achievement......wait a minute.......I just noticed you didn't start the thread, I did. My mistake.
    GR lives...

Zo, I find it disturbing how nice you have been to the Huskydude. When you are asked at the corner store who the young man staying with you is.....do you answer " ah, ah its, its my my Nephew..... right nephew?" ......Just wondering. I do not think he is chinese and has not mentioned any wedding plans so I may be way off base. if I am, please forgive me in advance.
