The perception is, and I have it as well, that if the Tiger isn't even money against the whole field, he's not back.

His domination was once astounding, but it had limited longevity and now it appears over.

Agreed. He'll still breaks Nicklaus' record once it's all said and done. His dominance over the field is done, but he's not done winning.

Eldrick himself has said, to all of us, the only wins that really count are majors. Which only states the obvious in the case of someone who's got a shot at the record.

So the answer to the question of whether Tiger is "done" or not rides on whether he'll win another one. Simple as that. If he won't win another major, he's done. If he will, he isn't.

While only the future can really answer this question, if I had to handicap it and something really, really important was at stake, say a blowjob, I'd give him a one in 5 chance of winning another. So in my book with only a twenty percent shot of returning to hallowed ground -- he's done.

I insist that he's one win closer than everybody is saying.

His three and Jack's two USGA Amateur Championships are definitely majors.

If they were majors for Bobby Jones, then they're majors for Jack and Tiger as well.

Any other view is a slap to the face of tradition.

What struck me this weekend, after watching tiger's pre cut rounds over and over, is he doesn't have to play on the weekends anymore. If he shows up he'll get Saturday and Sunday coverage no matter what, even if cut. Pretty smart of him to only play well enough to keep the masses interested in his return. Meanwhile he can be at home or on Privacy on weekends. A pleasure he's probably become accustomed to.

  6. #806
And now we have another weekend of 'tigerwatch' on tv-whether he's doing well or not. Why don't they (since he doesn't contend hardly ever anymore) just give him a reality show? You couldn't show everything he does (chasing ugly skanks), but some people might like it. They could put it back to back with the kardashian (I don't capitalize that name either) debacle-2 trashy reality shows, 1 after the other.

  7. #807
And especially when he's close to cornering some skank-they could call it 'wood-time'.

I'm thinking they should have either a split screen or picture-in-picture with one camera constantly on Tiger Woods. Whenever he's doing something spectacular (which is often) the small picture would flip with the big picture and we'd get to see Tiger at his best. Once the shot is over it would revert to the regular golf on the bigger picture but Tiger still in the little one. This way we can watch him walk and other good stuff. Also, it's likely that the big picture would then show a replay of Tiger's great shot that we just saw. Double whammy. This is what everyone wants.

Similarly, Showtime should have a show that continues Tiger taping after normal coverage is over, a la Big Brother. I imagine viewership in the 10 PM - 2 AM slot would be strong.

We've discussed this before but the other great addition to the coverage would be the 'What if Tiger HAD made the cut' for the rare occasions when the great one doesn't. They put together a summary of his great shots and how the final two rounds would have panned out with Tiger in the field. This could be shown on the split screen FD mentioned. It would keep all true golf fans from switching off and bring the crossover fans who would otherwise ignore the coverage. A win win for the fans, the tour and Tiger.
I chose the road less traveled.

Now where the f#ck am I?

Are you telling me that they're not doing that now? They even show classic shots by the Tiger on the broads' and seniors' events that I watch.

I personally think this would work. It could be a mixture of real PGA tour golf and Tiger fantasy golf. Depending on the success of the first few tournaments they could expand it to tournaments that Tiger doesn't even play in. In the comfort of his own home Tiger could give us his thoughts over the shot and they could show a little bubble over his head indicating what he's thinking.

All they have to do is string footage from past tournaments together. Sunday would be easy because he always has worn red/black. Saturday would be more difficult but considering the intelligence of the average viewer they're likely to look past it.

This would enable him to stay home rather than sharing a booth with those blubbering idiots he hates, like Faldo and Miller.

Tiger Woods--if he made the cut will become a reality. Stay tuned.

Expanding this concept to tournaments Tiger didn't even play in is inevitable for the good of the tour, the longevity of his career and the delight of all true golf fans.

However they don't need to put together footage from past tournaments. That's an outdated concept FD. We just have to fly Tiger into WETA Workshops in Wellington and get him to play every shot imaginable on the computer animation screen. It should only take a couple of days. Then Peter Jackson can produce any shot the tournament director or Tiger himself requests. His chosen attire on the day will be no problem and we will see the appropriate dramatic shots played as the exciting final rounds unfold. Boy I'm getting excited just thinking about it.

Kiwi, your suggestion of filming tiger next to a blue screen with every conceivable shot is pure genius. They could then superimpose Tiger into the actual tournament and have him play with everyone else.

Except, they can take it even further. Think of the movie Capricorn One. They could make the viewing audience believe that Tiger is actually playing in the tournament by superimposing him into the screen for all four days. This way the viewing audience if tricked into believing that Tiger made the cut. All they have to do is change the leaderboard for TV. Tiger could win 10 more majors without ever entering a tournament.

You might run into problems when people who attended the tournament discuss it with people who saw it on TV. We can deal with that later.

Are you talking (HAHA) Majors, or something like the Reno-Tahoe Open-? Anybody can get hot where their putter makes everything, he should maybe play in more tourneys like that one.

And whatever happened to the world stunning revelation where tiger and his advisers found out he was lining up his putts 2 inches off? I thought that was supposed to bring back the glory days...............?

I can't do it to you, Buddha, I like you too much. Tiger is in a bad state of mind that he will never fully recover from. There is no way he will beat or match Nicklaus' record of major wins. I'm not even sure he will even ever win another major. His time is running out and the young players have caught up with him. It would be almost impossible at this juncture in his life.

Come on Sooner, I laid out an impartial handicap earlier in this thread. You needn't quibble further over odds. Make him an offer.

Tiger doesnt need to beat Jack's record. He is already the indisputable greatest golfer to ever play the game. If he walks away now his record of winning majors when golf became a recognised sport played by athletes says more than Jack's. An easy way to compare is by career prizemoney. How much did Jack win? Even taking into account inflation Tiger and Phil play for more in Tuesday practice rounds than Jack won in his best year. Golf was insignificant prior to 1980. Nobody with an ounce of athletic ability would touch it. And Ali was getting million dollar pay days so dont say nobody in sport got any money back then.

You are correct. Ali transcended his sport and become a worldwide sporting celebrity. So did Tiger. The same can't be said about Jack. He's only famous amongst golfers and golf fans.

EVERYBODY makes more money in EVERY facet of life now than in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. What a ridiculous excuse-and everybody knows there's a big difference between REASON and excuse..............

And people who don't know $h!t. I love how it went from 'tiger will be the greatest when he beats Jacks record' to NAH's ridiculous drivel. The wood fans are as much a joke as his game-currently 8 behind right now. But wood fans can take solace in knowing he could drop back and win a few Puerto Rico Opens or Reno Opens in the future years. Jack Nicklaus, greatest ever......................

Except the Ali vs. Sonny Liston fight was set up by the mob. I know this from reading The Godfather Returns.

The first one in Miami was actually the Clay-Liston fight. Clay was originally maqnaged by six Louisville businessmen, and then by Elijah Muhammad. The "mob" had nothing to do with either of these two entities.

Also, even by the 1960s, boxing gambling money was no longer sufficient to stimulate organized crime interest. That pretty much ended by the early 1950s, and only lasted that long due to the novelty of early TV..

I really hate that golf course with a passion (no reflection on the ospreys--I'd be happy to leave the whole thing to them).

But if the striped were still the striped one, as my brother called him, the course wouldn't matter.)

Sir, you are approaching moron status at warp speed. In 1965 Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and Sandy Koufax were playing golf every chance they got. Sugar Ray Leonard became a golf nut virtually the day he retired. Wilt Chamberlain was otherwise engaged most of the time.

Back about then (maybe early 70's) a friend of mine went to Vegas and while he was there he played a little golf. He went to a course (had called day before, said he was alone, they said 'come on out'), payed his money and was told there was a twosome on the tee, he could join them. He happened to play with a couple guys named Joe Namath and Jerry West.................................and who was the MORON that said nobody with any athletic ability played golf until the 80's? Sad thing is the idiot probably has never heard of either one..................

Joe Namath was a great athlete no doubt. That's why he chose football as a profession instead of golf. You just proved my point numb nuts.

I dont remember any of those guys on tour. You and husky are making my point for me. Back then athletes played professional sports that paid money, and let the soft doughboys like Jack to fight over the peanuts the pga tour paid. I bet they loved texas hold em poker too, but that doesnt make cards athletic. Some people on this board have a hard time following simple logic. Keep agreeing with husky and you will be viewed a simpleton by association.

'Nobody with an ounce of athletic ability would touch it'....you said it, we were just proving you wrong.....AGAIN! I suppose now you're gonna come back with 'thats not what I meant'. A little advice sonny, 'its far better to keep your mouth shut and have people wonder than to open it and remove all doubt'.

All these athletes you mention didnt touch it in their youth. They started playing when their athletic careers finished. Im far from athletic and can get around a golf course. Athletes take up golf now, all because of Tiger mania.

Too bad you can't get into it although I will say the course doesn't show well on TV, you have to have been there to get it. While you hold in high regard your traditions, I'll forever be annoyed they removed a tree at the back of the 12th green I'd pissed on, which has been a tradition of mine.

Who needs wood to be dominant again? The attendance at the Players-with an out of contention wood, was up 20% this year. Seems the new kids on the block are stealing the show. Enjoy.

Still, WTG, It's an accomplishment, for sure.

But I am proud of my ability to identify talent early.

WHEW thanks, I was wondering if he was smart enough to quit. Afterall, witht the attendance up 20%, I guess the game really doesn't need him-there are just a few lost souls out there who need him in contention (in the future at limited field events) to be able to face life.

At least Campbell won a major which makes him a one hit wonder. Enigma never had a single epic thread making him the Michelle Wie of GR.

Ron Artest for sure 100% fits under Charles Barkleys famous quote, 'if it wasn't for the NBA half these guys would be in prison'. His 'accidental elbow' earlier this season was nothing but a punk move....typical laker. But OKC will get the last laugh, and the lakers will go home-HAHAHA!

The broken hearted, bitter people keep whining how The PGA Tour is struggling without that wood guy dominating in his arrogant, stand-offish, SOB way. I wish those pretenders/losers would have watched the Byron Nelson (I don't think wood ever showed enough respect to Lord Byron to play in this event) today, quite a finish with Dufner rolling in a long one for birdie and the win. In REAL golf fans opinion, the PGA Tour is VERY alive and well. The whiners need to go back to being nerds and quit pretending to be golfers........................

And Phil was looking pretty good out there today in The Byron warming up for the US Open......where was the arrogant, stand-offish, SOB wood-where was he whacking off at? Is he too good to play in the tourney that was hosted by the player with the greatest streak EVER? WHAT........is the SOB too jealous or what?

Golf is dying now without Tiger. Wake up!!!

And why would Tiger want to play in a tournament like this? Tiger is too BIG for that tournament.

    Come on dude.

Face reality; Tiger is the best that ever played the game.

He is gonna rock yore world soon; you watch...

Yeah right.......tiger is too big for this Tourney, he's won WAAAAYYYY too many other tourneys in the last THREE years.
And wood being the best in history? Who owns-and ALWAYS will, the record for Majors? Even YOU know that answer-Jack is the greatest ever, alot of smarter and some dumber people than you know that.
Only way wood can rock my world is if he ackowledges the fans like the Tours favorite player Phil does-signing caps, high 5'ving fans, hugging kids-ALL stuff wood is apparently too important to do-or too much a jerk. He's so clueless he'll never get it, and his dunder-head followers never will either.

YOU must have enjoyed his win, I didn't mention his name. Since you watched and enjoyed todays tourney, and brought his name up, Dufner has more class in his back pocket than wood will EVER have in his life. And thats why people who respect THE GAME and its HISTORY don't like wood.

Hmm, I'd catch up on this thread, but TL; DR. So, I'm assuming you can quickly catch me up. Why don't you like Woods? I mean, yes, he made some mistakes (seriously... a perkins waitress? Did you see that troll?) but don't we all? He's human!

I must agree with the rest of the civilized world... Woods will be back and will break Jack's record. Just give it a year or two.

Byron was a big time bible thumper too. So he didnt even take responsibility for beating up on weak fields while the Real men were fighting a war. I read that Nelson was a hemophyliac but that's just sermantics.

I think there should be penalties for boring play, just like they get penalised for slow play. This is especially the case when a leader shows no personality down the stretch. Boring winners can really destroy an event and scare off fans and sponsors. The Masters still hasnt fully recovered from Zach Johnson's win.

There's something very weird about a guy who obsesses about marital fidelity--especially another man's.

I just don't get it, HH. Why would you possibly give a rat's rectum? It isnt normal or healthy.

It worked with Alan. I think HH's psychosis is more pronounced than Alan's, so I wouldn't expect him to be able to drop Tiger bashing cold turkey.

Greatly appreciated......you're one of those guys who sits for days on the corner in a beat up truck with wood racks and a sign saying 'cord of wood for $125'? Hey somebody has to do it, but thanks again for chopping wood for the elderly-now run along son...............

Not good enough. You need to post something about golf with no reference whatsoever to your idol Tiger Woods. You know, something about equipment or your swing or maybe a recent round you played. Come on HH. I know you can do it.
I chose the road less traveled.

Face it. Tiger doesn't care how you feel HH. Just look at that stare.

Tiger says it's time for you to be quiet, and go wax his car.

I think HH has replaced Fred3 as my new GR gift that keeps on giving. I seem to have lost my touch with Fred but I still own husky.

Boring, wax cars....whatever! BOTTOM LINE.....................Dufner, Zach Johnson, whoever you guys say are boring, they all have one thing in common-they are better than wood. Deal with it.

How many majors have those guys won between them? Tiger Woods has 14 all to himself. He's still the man. Deal with it.

Triple post??? You need remedial lessons on how to use a phone. Just tack those on to the numerous golf lessons you're going to need after you try that retarded Gary Player swing.

WTF? HOW LONG are you jerk-lovers gonna hang onto wood beating Jacks Major record? To me personally, I hope he wins this week-it'll give all of you pretenders the false hope he'll beat Jack's Major record-starting with your fantasy of him winning US Open......and it'll keep us laughing in the clbhouse AFTER we finish our Sunday rounds watching you pretenders try and act like your disrespectful, racist idol while wearing YOUR red shirts too-keep the laughs coming...............PLEASE, my friends (who've actually played golf before wood was born-like me) love it too!n Red shirt racists-keep the laughs coming-PLEASE!
