Got in a routine on Sunday to work on the Web site then take a break to play nine at Mick Riley in the afternoon. Best score this year, but I can tell my irons are still off. Chipping was bad overall, too. Eagled #8 and birdied #7 to get to 1 under and had a solid par on #9.

Played in a downpor today but still had a ok round for me. Shot 45 on the front and 46 on the back. I was killing the ball off the tee, but my putting was off and on. For the most part my iron play was pretty good. My chipping, which is usually on of my strong points, was horrible today. Many times when I should have had par or birdie I ended up with a bogey because of my chipping. Still, I'm happy because I was having trouble with my driver but I got a new one and I was doing great with it. Oh, and I had a great chip in for birdie on 16( my only good chip).

I played 9 quick holes last night...shot 10 over, and have nothing positive to report about the round except the 8th hole, which is a narrow 280 yard par 4. Drove pin-high about 10 feet to the right side of the green, then chipped a gimme for a birdie...rest was a mess of bogey and double...and I my God it was hot.

Not sure how you placed 3rd and 4th?

My last round was a first. I was playing skins and n/r'd a hole on the first 9 (regretting it now.) I then went on to shoot my first 9 holes under par!!!!!!!!!! Shooting 3 under for the last six holes. With birdies on 17 and 18!

Shot a 39 on the front nine at Hamilton Mill last weekend playing in soggy conditions. Just barely got nine in before it really started raining. Managed two birdies in a row, second one about 2 feet from the hole on a par 3. Hit the fairway on every hole except nine and clipped tree. CG10s were working their magic around the grees. Wish I could have got 18 in, that was the first time I shot under 40.

Played after work on regulation PAR 72 course and 43 on the front 9 both times but couldnt finish the back 9 before dark. I still have not broken 90 for full 18 yet.

I thought for a long time that the key to sub-90 rounds would be to drive it better off the tee...turns out all it took was to stop using my woods completely. My last round, and only one under 90, I didn't pull a wood the entire time.

Today I shot a 94 from 6400 yards and I never pulled more than a five iron (~175-180 in this heat) out of my bag. I should have broken 90 again as well as I was hitting my irons, but my chipping absolutely fell apart on one hole (4 on #9...two duffs out of the thick stuff, one over, one on), and I only made one of my five-eight foot putts (I had nine of those). Putted a 35 for the round, but it really should have been more like a 31.

Scoring breakdown: 3 pars, 9 bogies, 5 doubles (3 due to OBs, 1 due to a bad sand shot, and 1 due to my only three putt), and one triple (the aforementioned blowup on #9).

Highlights: 89 yard SW to three feet, successfully (as well as intentionally) working my 5I for a long draw and a long fade around trees (on different holes) to get back in the fairway. I was more proud of the second part than I was the first. I'm actually starting to feel kinda like a golfer.

Yes, Northeast of Atlanta in Dacula. That was only my second round there. My boss invited me to play and it's terrific course, I'm thinking about becoming a member there. The guy I was riding with mentioned the GPS briefly and how cool it was.

Do you live around Atlanta? I live in Duluth which isn't as Northeast as Dacula. About a 25 minute ride to get to the course.

    Best Round

Today, I had my best score on 9 holes.

Bogey on 1,2, Par on 3,4, Double on 5, Par on 6, Double on 7, Par on 8, and bogey on 9.

I had about 2 putts at birdie from 10 feet or more and made 1 of them. I had a birdie putt off of the green that lipped out.

It was a 41 on a par 34. Beat my old best which was a 45.

Two rounds to report both at WestMid played last Sunday had the best ball striking day I have had in a long time but pulled shots of line on the third and ninth and over clubbing on the first and sixth coupled with bad chipping and putting lead to me shooting a 105
Then on Monday it took nine holes before I started striking the ball well and I gave up on the fairway woods. Had a bit of luck with shots that went off line being mostly playable. My putting stroke was better then it normally is and my short game was respectable I ended up carding 92 with 43 on the back nine.

I shot a 60 on a par 58. It was super short pitch and put that had 4 par 4's the logest was 320 or something but most par 3's were between 90 and 115 yards a couple where longer one 180 and one 150 that I remember. I hit all irons off the tee on the par 4,s since I was there to practice my iron play. It ended up being SW practice which I am already decent at. But I still should have had about a 54 but the greens where so slow I had trouble makeing putts. Oh well I'll never play there again.

First time playing at a new course yesterday. Didn't do my best. Shot 50 on the front 46 on the back. Par on the first 2 then I fell apart. Started the back well, I was -1 through 4. Then fell apart again. My play from the fairway was horrible no matter what club I used. Driving was long but not vary acurate. My putting was awsome. I was making almost everything and when I didn't I was close. My chipping was really good too. Chipped in for bridie from the sand on 12. It was all luck though, I sckulled it and it hit the flag and dropped in.

    This kind of burns me...

It was slow as heck today!

After a 2:45 front nine with one bad tee shot that cost me triple I turned and went par, birdie, birdie to get back to 1 over through 12... then we had to leave. Two of us had to be at our part time jobs and there was no way we could finish.

Play really poor or really good; Just play quick! I hate days like this!
    Cheers,

Shot 77 today at Geneva Farms its 71.6 rating and 132 slope from the blues where we played from. Could have shot 4 better at least if I dropped a few puts was burning the edge all day long lots of puts diddent feel like I putted horably though just not great. But looking back it was from 170 in that i played really well missed very few greens from there.

Shot a 69 today...4 birdies 1 bogey. Still hitting really well and still can't make a putt. All of my birdies were on par 5's...I 2 putted 3 of them for birdie, and wedged one into about 3 feet on the other. The rest of the round was pretty boring (fairway, green, 2 putt).
...we'll ride the spiral to the end
we may just go where noone's been.

I shot an 85 here today (Northern Utah Amateur at Logan Golf and Country Club in Utah). The scoring wasn't that bad overall, but I had two quads hehe. One was on a crazy par 4 over a cliff...hit two out of play then a great third. The other quad was because I got stuck in deep grass on a very steep slope.

    Here is the round itself.

I'm not sure how you could shoot 1-under and not qualify. That would be BS. Depends on the field though. Good luck!

    Thanks...

This is one of our State Am qualifiers. Most of the time about 3 to 4 over gets in. The last qualifier (about a week ago) 1 under was low and the cut was 75.

How's this thread buried on the second page? Slacker golfers, the lot of ya!

Tied my low today with another 89 on a Par 71 6100 yard course (well, slightly shorter than that...I was walking and the heat index was 104 so I played two tees from the whites instead of the blues since those blue boxes were a long freakin hike just to get to).

Decided to try something new today... The swing I had been using for the last two months was a very upright, armsy, two-plane swing. I hit my irons very straight, and a decent distance, but I couldn't hit my woods consistently for anything. Today I experimented with a much flatter, one plane swing, and I have to say the results were nice for not having practiced with it. I hit a driver or wood off every non-par 3, and I hit 8/14 fairways with good distance for me (high drive ~270, low ~205, avg 220-240). Three of the four fairways I missed I drove through doglegs. The problem came with the irons...my irons were a lot less predictable than they had been...with regards to distance AND accuracy. I'm hoping that's something I can work out on the range...

Quick summary: A nicely symmetrical 1 birdie, 4 pars, 8 bogeys, 4 doubles, 1 triple with 8/14 FH, and 4 GIR (a testament to the erratic irons, because I was in good position to make at least three times that off the tee). 37 putts (not pleased...lipped out two very makeable birdie putts of about 6 feet, three one putts, FOUR three-putts...gah). Par 3 avg 4.00, Par 4 avg 5.22, Par 5 avg 5.50.

Well, they graded it in 2 different ways. It was low net and gross. I'm not really sure what they mean but I got 4th in the important one. The kid that won shot a 37. Steroids......

Today I played in a tournament out at Traditions G.C. in Edmond, OK. So lately my swing has been in the crapper and it was getting a little bitter yesterday so I decided that I would just go ahead and play and see where I was at with my game. So I go out to the range this morning and I am still pushing the crap with every club in my bag, so I decide that my game plan will be aiming 20 yards left of the intended target for the day.

1st hole- First to tee off, step up and drill my drive to about 110 on a 390 hole. Unfortunately my ball ended up in divot (nice reward for hitting it in the fairway, huh?) then precede to then a gap wedge 30 yards through the green. Make a nice punch 8 iron pin high then two putt for 5.

The rest of the front nine I struggled with my accuracy and missed a lot of fairways and greens because of my straight push. Highlights include chip in for bird, almost driving a par 4 with a 3 wood after shanking one in creek, and managing to shoot 9 over with 3 doubles.

Make the turn and I am kind of indifferent with my game because I played so bad. Play the next two holes in +1 and then split the fairway on one of the toughest par 4 on the course. Then on my approach shot I think my alignment is somewhat off, so I put my club down at my feet to see where they are pointing. Sure enough they are lining up towards the right fringe instead of the left pin location I am intending to be lined up at. So I fix my alignment and intend on the push for some reason and draw it into the creek but am not upset because I figured out what was causing me to play so bad. Fittingly, I stick my tee shot on the following par 3 to about 8 feet and drain the putt. End up shooting +3 over the last 6 holes because of a riduculous 7 on the par 5 18th. Shanked a 5 and 8 iron because of a severe uphill lie and barely moved a sandshot because of terrible lie too.

Ended up shooting 85 with swing problem for 2/3 of the round and atrocious putting. I'm not mad though because I feel like I could go out and shoot close to even right now.

Played Bethpage Blue today and shot a 79 from the tips. It was a good outing, I think I was 2-under on the back until a disastrous double bogey came upon.

    oh well.

    last round of golf

Add my score to the list. 6300 yd, par 72 course. Shot a 40 on the front nine, with three putts within 6 feet that I missed, so the score could have been a 37. Had 4 pars, one birdie, 3 bogeys and one double bogey.
On the back nine, I shot a 48. Knocked my first shot in the water on a very short par three, and had a triple bogey. Bogeys and doubles as I had trouble settling down. Pared 15, bogey on the long par 16th, par on 17th, and bogey on 18. On the 18th I am on the fringe of a 560 yd hole on three with the pin 12 feet away and proceed to knock my miserable putt 4 feet from the hole. Miss the putt. Thats the way the back went.
    Shot an 88.

Seems a shame to follow a post like that one with something like this...

Anyway, shot a 60 today on a par 54 course...played the front nine even at a 27, and melted on the back nine (heat index at 107) with a 33. Short hole was 58 yards, long was 175...had 31 putts. I wouldn't have bothered posting it but it beat my previous low on a Par 3 course by 8 strokes. Of course, I haven't played one in awhile, but still.

Shot a one over 72 on the Bethpage Green on Tuesday. I rode instead of walked, and it seemed to help me.

I shot a 48 on Tuesday. The one hole that really killed me was at 8 when I got a 9 because of a skulled sand shot and a poor chip. I 1 putted though to reduce further damage.

Shot a 46 on Wednsday. My tee shots were ok but my irons were horibble. I was slicing almost everything (new swing changes). It could've gotten pretty ugly if it wasn't for my putting. I 1 putted about 5 of the 9 holes ( usually to save bogey).

I'm gonna try and get out tomorrow to play but I'm not sure if I can.

Today I realized I am finally starting to work my way out of a nasty slump I've been in for the last 2 months. I have shaved a couple strokes off of every round for the last 4-5 rounds. Shot a 95 today, with 36 putts (5 putts over my average) still not something I am real happy with, but finally coming around. Will hopefully be back in the 80's real soon. The course I played today is not one that I usually do well on.

Seeing as how I was up between 105-110 the last couple months, I can live with a 95. At least I'm looking forward to the rounds again, for a while I was dreading them.

Driver was great, Everything else was just sub-par. Only lost 1 ball, which is a sure sign it is turning around. I'm hitting my driver well enough now, that it has been better course management to use the driver over the woods like I used too, because it is more consistant. Usually only use my driver 4-5 times a round, been using it more like 9-10 recently. Once my woods come around, I will go back to them

Another low score to report today...walked 18 this morning to break up the monotony of my cross state drive to see my girlfriend. Shot an 84 on a Par 70, 5800 yard course. Two birdies, seven pars, five bogies, one double, three triples, 31 putts...44 on the front nine, 40 on the back. I was pleased (obviously), but it could have been even better than it was... On the Par 3 seventh, I put a six-iron within seven feet from 167 yards but I lipped out the putt from the high side. Also, on the 455 yard Par 5 18th, I had a 21 foot uphill eagle putt that came up two inches short...that was pretty grrrrrr.... Still, the one plane swing change is coming along nicely (I used to be a two planer, but have recently switched in search of better consistency). My #2 hybrid was the longest club I hit all day, and I was pumping it out there pretty straight about 215-235 depending on roll. Hit 7 of 13 fairways, and was in the short cut of rough on 4 others. Six GIR or better, with two birdies and four pars to show for it.

    Twas a happy day.

The first day of my club championship was today. I scraped around a nice 5 birdie, 5 three-putt, 76. I'm 4 back going into tomorrow. Anyone want to buy a putter?

Shot a 3 over 39 on the front nine today at Old Scotland Links in Bridgwater, MA. Felt good, was striking the ball well and smoked a tee shot on 10 down the middle of the fairay. Next shot found a bunker follwed by a sculled sand shot to an unplaybale lie. Took a triple bogey. Followed that up with some pars, two doubles and one final triple on the final hole for a cool 48 on the back 9. Ouch.... a very inconsistant 87 (about 5 shots worse than my usual score at this course)

I shot 74 from the back tees at west sayville golf course. I had 38 on the front and 36 on the back on the par 72 course. I missed 3 birdie putts inside 10 feet and one of them was about 5 feet on a short par 5. It could have been a real good round but anxious to get back on the course.

I played in the weekly noon tournament at Bountiful Ridge for the first time in two years. It's a team chicago format. We didn't win anything as a team. I won a $17 skin on #3 because I made a long birdie putt.

Here is the round (78 with a 9 handicap). A blocked drive and fat SW approach cost me about 5 strokes.

    Total golf collapse

I had the worst round I have had in years on Sunday. It was as if over the course of nine holes I lost all physical coordination as well as any understanding I had of how the swing works. I couldnt align a club face, my grip was either strong or week but never neutral and I was either very open or closed to the target.
If the rest of my life was like this id get out of bed some mornings and be unable to walk because id of forgotten how to.
after the ninth things slowly got a little better hole by hole still awful though until I got my one and only par on the hard par 4 last.
No score to post because I picked up on the third, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh.

Played a quick twilight today with a bud, shot and even par 36 on the front, and was 1-under going into the 17th hole when we decided to walk in. I was striking the ball really well, I love my blades.

Shot a 1 under par 70 today at Maryland National from the tips. First time I'd played the course, and I must say it was in perfect condition. Highly recommended course to anyone in the DC-Baltimore area.

    Talking

I finally broke 80 at my home course this season, Valley View in Layton Utah. It was a men's association round, "so I had that going for me, which is nice". I was in a 4 way tie for first with my 38/32.5 on the front.

Here is the round...12 pars and 6 bogeys...no really bad holes, but no great holes, either...

Second best round of my life!

Last sunday I played a 6750 yards course (Les Quatres domaines - Quebec/Canada).
    Here are the result:
    Hole # 1- Started with a boguey
    Hole # 2 and 3: birdie
    Hole #4: boguey
    Hole# 5: birdie
    Hole# 6-9ar(miss a 5¨ footer for bird)
    Shot 35... 1 under

    Hole #10: birdie
    Hole #11: par
    Hole #12: birdie
    Hole #13: par
    hole #14:boguey
Hole #15ar (miss a 6¨ footer for bird)
    Hole #16:birdie
Hole #17: double boguey(that hurts, par 3, missed a flop shot on the side of the green to get up and down and went into a bunker - par 3 230 yards)
    Hole #18: birdie(par 5 545 yards)
Shot 35 for a round of 70....2 under par!
The title says second best round of my life because i once shot 69, but this round i played last sundy was my most satisfying one because I know i could've shoot 66-67. I just dream about it every night...just think about it, 7 birdies, 2 easy missed one and too many bogueys...it could've been amazing!! But I won't complains and try to repeat it!

Tks for the opportunity to share this moment of mine with you!

    Cool 128

128 on my first 18-hole game, was par 71. i sunk two in a pond. my last 9-hole game was a 65, at a par 35 front nine. of the four of us (all strangers), i may have had the best time, expect on the 1st tee, where i chili dipped a huge flying divot, then a clean miss, then a 20 yard dribble of a topped drive. yiekes! and so many golfers watching. took 10 to hole in a par 4. by best was one bogie and a 11 at par 5 where i hacked and hacked with my 3 wood off the rough. sure was fun until i realized i forgot to bring currency for a cold beer after the 9th.

went to the driving range tonight.

i like my trusty nine iron, a Ben Hogan Apex, but my new 690.MB four iron was flying high and to the right..at least it was consistant. i need my pro...can't wait for the saturday golf class.
    golf's a relaxing betting game.

I shot a 79 today in day 1 of my Club Championship. My goal was a 78. I am starting day 2 in 5th place. There were two 75's and two 77's in my flight. I need to shoot low 70's to have a chance to win my flight.

That is my worst effort in the four or so Club Championships at my home course so far.

    133

    5823 yards 68.3 rating/120 slope, par 70: 63+70 = 133, my score today.
conditions:heavy fog in canyon on 1st nine.
most need for improvement: after a drive landing on a steep & muddy rough, nearly out of bounds, i should have taken a safe shot back on the fairway..could have saved four or five strokes off a 12 stroke round.
most memorable shot: 165 yards, landing 15 yards right of aim, off fairway with #1 iron, on the first (and only swing with a cleek iron) - should have used a #4 iron, but what the heck it was fun.
my 3rd par of my golf life, since June 2005, on a par 3: 205 yards with a 3 wood (first time needing to fix the green with a divot tool), 15' put then a 1' put.
    golf's a relaxing betting game.

I shot a 37 in the weekly twilight at my home course yesterday. I was playing just to have fun. I played a few shots that I would not have played that way otherwise. I guess it worked because it was my low round in the tournament and I took first place in my flight (back-to-back). I shot 1 over...2 under in the last 6 holes. Going for the green in two from 250 (over rocks in front) off a side hill lie resulted in a bogey on the 2nd. I probably would have hit a 7 iron or so any other time hehe. Another "for fun" bogey resulted from aiming more left than usual on the first tee. I aimed over the water and cleared it easily, but it went right in the middle of the huge willow tree that guards the hole. I barely made it past the tree, but didn't have much of a chance to get it on from there...branches behind..other trees in the way. 20 yards more right and it would have been a great drive with a 60 degree wedge approach shot left.

There is a par 3 over water. I hit right on top of the brick wall and went WAY over the green and tee box on the next hole hehe. I got up-and-down for par thanks to a great 60 degree shot. I had to barely carry it over the trap, land it softly, and have it slowly roll to the flag. I ended up 4 feet away.

I birdied the last two holes after this. I blocked a drive way right on 8, but hit a SW over the trees right under the flag. I got on in 2 on the par 5 9th with a 5 iron to the middle and two putted for bird. A guy I was playing with hit a 5 iron on 9 from out of the trap behind the lip pin-high and missed a short eagle putt. He had one foot out of the trap and hit a really high shot that sliced right to the flag...it even backed up a little.

Shot an 83 today. Not a great score, but I played very well. Some highlights:

#1: Blocked my drive to the right rough. I hit my SW over a tree and clear the bunker to put me to 3-feet. Birdie.
#6: Par 5-520 yards. Hit driver and am in the first cut right off the fairway. 220 out I take a 1-iron into the bunker. Left with tricky bunker shot with almost no green to work with, I explode out of the bunker, hits the fringe as planned and stops a foot from the hole. Tap in birdie.
#17: In the rough 150 yards out. A huge branch from the forest hangs out and I couldn't hit my 9-iron. I take my 8 iron and hit a soft fade that lands 6 feet from the cup and spins to 5 feet. Make the putt for birdie.

I made a 7 on a par 4 after hitting a tee shot OB, oh well.

    Wink

I was hitting the ball pretty well today in the weekly noon tournament at Bountiful Ridge, but I had 22 (!) putts on the back nine. This is a team Chicago format and we were 11 under the team quota on the front and about the same on the back hehe. It could be good for last. I might win the front nine in the twilight on the front with my 37, though. I won last week on the back and won two skins in the team thing.

    Here is the round

It was just a beautiful day in the 70's and playing an awesome public course. I played with people that I had not played with in a couple of years and had fun.

    63 on 35 par 9-hole

67.8 rating/116 slope, par 35 9-hole: got 63, 2 up from my record. (yes I aint good... yet, so stop laughing). foggy.
had five holes in a row with two puts, but languished with my 3-wood "driver" and irons, esp. with my new Ben Hogan Apex FTX 6-iron...not used to it yet...i guess..on the first fairway i fluffed with that three times in a row, but sure is pretty to look at. my 690.MB 4-iron swung well. me friends kept telling me to "stop moving your head!"

lessons: 1. warm up first, 2. steady head, 3. drink more beer...only had two.

shot a 96 today and hit the ball horrid. I did have some amazing shots though.

3 hole- par 3- extemly bad drive to the next tee box (20 yards left of the green) then punched to within 5 feet and drained that

4th hole- huge breaking 25 footer sunk for par

8th hole- par 4- 25 footer for par sunk again

13th hole- par 4- A bad tee shot put me under a huge willow tree with 140 to the pin I hit a very hard punch shot with a 4 iron to keep it extemely low and was on the green 15 feet to the pin and then made birdie

14th hole- par 4- a horrible lay up second shot with a 7 iron put me behind the trees, trying to hit it like Woods did on thursday (but this time with a hook) i strengthened my grip a ton and hooked it to the outside of the trees and made it come back to the green from 150 out

Shot 76 on the Bethpage Blue today. A couple highlights.

#6: Par 3, 190 yards uphill. Hit a 5i to about 6 feet, drained birdie.
#12: Par 4, 290 yards. Hit 3-wood center cut with 30 yards left, simple 60* shot to about 3 feet, birdie.
#18: Sank a nice 20 footer for the bird.

Shot a 76 yesterday, worst round I'd had in about 2 months. Played the front horridly, shooting a smooth 41 with 5 bogey's in a row including two 3 putts. Kept grinding away though and played the last 7 holes in 3 under. Highlights include a 345 yd. drive on 17th hole, downhill and downwind; Also a 310 yd. drive uphill on the 18th (Playing partners begged me to try and kill one) made a 25 ft. putt on 18 for birdie. Shot one under 35 on the back.

Hit 100 on a par 72 course. The short game was a disaster. Shot 5-6 on pretty much all holes...So it went ok on the par 5s and some of the par 4s. At least the driving and long game is working ok, but since its just the 7th round this year I have to accept that I need to polish my game a quite a bit before getting back to "normal".
Just irritating that Ill be 10 yards from the green in two on a par 5 and end up with 6...Meltdown around the greens.

    Thumbs up

I shot 43-39 in what is probably the last UGA local Amateur tournament this season. Well, there is always next year.

    Here is the round

Even with this 82 with an 8 handicap I still won $38 back, so it wasn't a total loss. ;)

This was at Hill AFB. The greens there are the best I have every played. Yesterday was no exception.

I thought that might be you that joined since it was a Bethpage round. Welcome to the site! You are my first paying customer. Most members are from when I held beta testing earlier. They can all (152 people) use the system for free through this summer.

I had back-to-back-to-back birdies for the first time this season. I played 9 at a nearby fairly easy course yesterday. I birdied 6-7-8 and three putted 9 from the middle of the green for an even par 36. I had a short chip on 8 for eagle that lipped out. I three putted 1 from about 12 feet.

It was a fun round. It's nice to play a fairly short course every now and then.

Here is the round. I entered each shot on this one, so people can really see what happened.

my 2nd best game, but only 7 holes

sunset game...ran out of daylight after 7th.

    1. 404 yards: i started off with my a lousy tee (getting used to that, no big deal) that nearly went OB, missed a 4-iron (was going so well on the range earlier) in the rough, then topped it then later later flubbed an approach lob shot up hill. notied even my good iron shots were hooking. two putts =9

    had one beer.

2: 385 yards: on the 2nd hole hooked three tee's OB ...already on 7 and haven't advanced off the tee . i ease up a lot..boom..on the mid fairway. 4-iron (a 690.mb) get me to chip range...then i chip way past the green. two putts = 12.

then next fours hole were the best ever for me:
    3:bogie,
    4:bogie,
5:bogie (should have been my first birdie, 250 yard roll with an "easy" 3-wood tee, 5' within pin with a 80 yard pitch, but took three putts ),
6:double (flubbed a 9 iron and sand wedge chip)
    7:double (bad chipping)
8: flubbed a 3-wood tee for 60 yards..got 410 yards to go on this par 5...i sweep my 1-iron for about 180~200 yards...still on fairway..can't see the pin. buddy lost his precious ball: time to go.

i need some visits to my local pitch and putt course!

Nothing but bogeys today in the Valley View weekly twilight other than when I made an unlikely long downhill putt on a par 3 hehe.

I had my low round so far this season (73) during the weekly 18 hole noon tournament at Bountiful Ridge. My putting wasn't very good, but I put my drives in good position on every hole and hit 16 greens. The greens were firm and even faster today.

I chipped in for eagle on #13. I hit a great 3 wood to get close to the green, but was left with a difficult highly elevated shot to the green. I was also on a slope. Because of this, I used my 60 degree wedge instead of my 56 degree wedge for the chip...same normal swing. I hit it just the way I wanted and where I wanted and it rolled right into the center of the hole just like a putt. It was worth 8 points (Chicago team format), won me a skin, and won the back nine for the team. I had 24 Chicago points on the back for 40 total. I had two birdies on the back to go with the eagle. I had a 7 handicap, so my quota was 32 (+8).

This is also my low round so far for the season, but I hope to have at least one under par round at a fairly challenging course.

I played on Thursday in match play against Benguk and I won 3 UP.

    Here were the highlights:

    1 and 2: I had a double and a triple so I was quickly down my 2.
3 and 4: I parred 3 and bogeyed for to square the match
#9: Ben won that because of a horrible second shot.

    Back Nine

10, 11, and 12 : I won all three because of good drives.
14: I lost because of errant drives
16: I won because of a good drive and 2 bad drives by Ben.

It was one of the first times all year that I had my drives straight and long.

Shot 78 from the blues at the Bethpage Black. This is about 7,400 yards. I was quite happy with that score.

That is a great score there. A 76.6 rating is wild!

I played Mountain Dell yesterday. It was my first time out there this season. I couldn't putt at all and one of the tricky par 5's really nailed me. I hit my tee shot out of play left in the hazard then hit a great 9 iron just a little long and into another hazard (same hole hehe). There was no way to get the ball anywhere near the flag after going over the green. I didn't quite get out of the hazard on the first shot and was left with the ball under a lot of heavy grass. All I could do was hit it hard and I hit it way over the green.

Here is the round with a few really nice pictures.

Here is one of the pictures.

I played twilight last night at my favorite course, The Olympic Course @ Gold Mountain. I teed of at 3:30 & finished up just before dark. I had a horrible start, triple, double, bogey, then finally par. The greens were super fast which was unnerving. I played my typical inconsistant game, except for the par 3s, which I was 1 over on. I shot a 93 from the whites, that is average for me, but I'm not getting better as soon as I had hoped. Bottom line is that I had fun. Here's a link to the course http://www.goldmt.com/

Played at my local course today and shot a 47. It was a really weird round though. I played well in the beginning, bad in the middle, and finished off with two pars in the end. My driving was eratic while my putting was pretty good. I only had to hit one iron shot out of the fiarway the whole round.

  85. #185
Some good...some bad...and some just messing around got me a 44 today in the Valley View weekly twilight. All uninspired.

I like it, it shows me where I need help, and its easy to track my rounds in such detail. It was a pain the other day when I couldn't edit a course I had already put in just because I had made a mistake and put 2 par 4's as par 5's. Thats my fault though.

    Great site though, A+

Yeah, there is only one area in the system where you are allowed to edit a course. This is when using the Courses button.

I will probably add an Edit button when viewing a course. I just didn't want people going edit crazy since anyone can edit a course. Maybe I'll just add the Edit button to the course viewing page if you created the course.

The more time you spend with the system the more you will appreciate it. Play with the new greens, fairways, and putting fields in the Statistics page. I found out that if I hit 9 or more greens I break 80. I only have two rounds this season so far that I hit 12 or more greens (my two low rounds). I hit 16 greens last Thursday in a weekly tournament. This is my low round so far this season.

Also compare your stats with other players...lower and higher handicaps. Someinfidel has the lowest scores and stats.

I saw your post-hurricane round and pictures in MGD hehe. I have been thinking about adding a feature in the round viewing page where people would talk to you about the round. After seeing this round I know it would be a good feature. People can do this in the forums at the site but it would be good to have it in the main software, too.

BTW, it's nice to have people like you using the system that really get what it's there for. Check into the league feature next..maybe set one up to play in matches against friends.

Interesting round at Bonneville today. The greens were heavily aerated. It seemed like 1/3 of the green was sand. These were the huge holes.

Had a good chance to score under par. I just needed to 2 putt on 7 to go 2 under, but 3 putted from 60 feet or so. I also bogeyed 16 and 17...really blew a very short approach shot on 16. Did manage to par 18 which is a very, very difficult long par 3.

It was also pretty windy part of the time. A few approach shots hit in front of the green and went way over.

I'm happy with the 75 considering the aerated greens and wind. I missed a few very easy putts, but still ended up with 31 putts overall which is better than average this season.

I hit 2 par 5's on the front in two. I ended up under par overall on the 5's which may be a first this season in an 18 hole round. I also ended up under par on the par 3's which is great for me and definitely a first this season.

I hit my 2nd shot ob on the first hole and still got a bogey hehe. I hit a tree with my rehit, but got up-and-down with a 60 degree wedge after that. I had to recount the strokes a couple of times...didn't think I had a bogey after all that. I birdied 2 and 2 putted for birdie on 3, so I was 1 under after three even after hitting my second shot of the day ob.

    Here is the round

I played on the Black Course today, but didn't keep score. I was constantly laying up and giving myself around 80 yards to the pin, and practice those shots. I was spinning a couple back, and put a couple within 5 or 6 feet. I didn't post the round on MGD, because after all I don't have any holes to post.

I had only 1 birdie today and 35 putts. Too few birds and too many putts hehe.

I played both sides in the weekly twilight at Valley View. They normally only have the twilight on the front nine, but did this last week also. I didn't know about it last week.

    Here is the round.

Shot a career low 68 (-3) on my home course this past weekend. Shot 34 (-2) on the front with an eagle, bogeyed 11 and 13, but birdied 14,17,18 for a 34 (-1) on the back. Missed four birdie putts from 5-8 feet, and another four from 10-15 feet, so it could have easily been 65 or better--scary! Didn't even drive it that well, but my iron game was very strong--I love the Hogan FTX's!

That would make the "60's Club" at my site. Nice round! I still have yet to break 70 (shot 70 two or three times).

Thanks guys....Just give it time, it will come....i was stuck on 70 for two years as a low, and then shot 69-69 the same day--this crazy game just happens like that sometimes.

    good golf game, for me

had a good golf game today, one of my best. breaking 100's now even thinkable..this month perhaps. i used a 6-iron only to tee and lay-up then used short irons & wedges. dind't have any pars today but enough bogoies and d'bogies to one my 6-iron tee shot went nearly 200 yards straight carry and roll. a lot easier to keep the 6-iron on the fairway...while i can swing my 3-wood way further on a good hit, on the average, my 6-iron's going nearly the same distance due to higher reliablibility, 3 or even 4 out of five.

my best shot was the first tee: straight up and high on the fairway, sloping up hill par-4, 180+ yards carry and roll with a Apex FTX 6-iron..got lucky.

also had good company to play with: son and his two friends

I had a wacky round at Bountiful today. This was a weekly noon 18 hole tournament (Chicago team format plus twilight gross/net front and back).

1 eagle, 2 birdies, 6 pars, 7 bogeys, and 2 doubles is pretty wacky!

    Here is the round

I had a 78 with an eagle on #18. I hit a 6 iron 4 feet from the flag on #18...the best I have played the hole this season and first eagle this season on 18.

The conversion to the one plane swing continues... Shot a 92 with 34 total putts today at Grand Marais (6284 yards, slope 123, 69.9 USGA). I was pretty happy about that, since my last three rounds since the swing change have been 99, 99, 103. I figured out that I needed more forearm rotation on the backswing than I did with the two plane swing. Limited forearm rotation seems to force the arms up relative to the shoulder plane, which is great for a two plane swing but a big no no with the one plane swing. Immediately after the conversion I was pull-hooking like crazy, and it was killing my scores...but that appears to be a thing of the past. I also played the entire round with my feet within a foot of each other to work on my hip rotation and keeping my body centered...oddly enough, that didn't affect my distances hardly at all.

Anyway, the results on the front nine were especially encouraging...I shot a 6 over 42 with fifteen putts, four pars, four bogies, and one double (on nine). Right about the turn I started to pick up my pace of play nig time so I could finish before dark (started at five, gets dark at ~7:30). I'm pretty sure my rushing around like crazy affected my form, because the hook started creeping back in (no pulling though) and the putting went downhill. The back nine I shot a 50 with 19 putts, 2 pars, 3 bogies, 1 double, and 3 triples.

Overall, an encouraging round nonetheless, and it's nice to get back into the low 90s for the first time with the new swing after being there for so long with the two plane swing. If anyone cares, I don't regret rebuilding my swing at all. The one plane swing seems to depend much less on timing, it's much easier for me to repeat it consistently, and it just feels more natural to me. The next month or so will go toward ironing out ball placements, grip strength, and just working the swing into muscle memory. At the end of that time, I fully expect to be shooting consistently in the mid to high 80s. From there, it'll be time to start hitting a driver, and then it'll be short game and wedge work almost exclusively. WOOHOO!

    Tower Links

    Ok my first entry here:

I have been playing about 18 months now, but only started taking it a lttle more seriously over the last 6 months or so. My target for the end for the end of his year was to come down from the 120 of a year ago to be consistanly sub 100. Slowly getting there now always around about 100,just need to stop wasting silly shots...

Anyhow yesterdays round was at Tower Link's Course - Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates. 7209 yard, par 72 course. Tee'd off at 09:00, clear day temp at 95 and humidity at 82%, however by 12:00 it had reached 104f and humidity had dropped to about 40%.

Started off playing pretty well for my experience level and shot 50 for the front 9:
    3 pars
    2 bogeys
    3 double bogey
And one really nasty 10 on a par 4 (tried to take the lake on twice...)

    Back nine shot 53

Pretty much bogey'd my way back to start with but lost a lot of shots of the last 3 or 4 holes when the heat really started to get to every-one.

More than anything I just really enjoyed the early holes, it's nce to be getting some pars and see the shot's / game starting to come together. With winter coming the temps should drop (to the 70's / 80's and i shoudl be able to play / practise more so the sub 100 rounds should deff be acheivable.

Anyhow not too much to boast about compared to some of the scores here, but hey I enjoying myself....
