Launcher 460 COMP $50 better than the regular 460?
Well, if you could get them both new, but the COMP was $50 more...would you spring for the COMP of stick with the regular?
-
Well, I ended up buying the COMP in the specs I wanted...$220 brand spanking new after shipping. I looked at the PGA value guides and that has high end used COMPs at ~$240 and high end used regular 460s at ~$190. So I would be getting about the same relative value, so I figured I might as well go with the newest technology. Besides, the newer one will have the higher resale value this year or next year if I ever decide to get rid of it for some reason (not likely).
I can't believe I was the only one who bid on this club...the seller had impeccable feedback, and new regular 460s are going in the $200+ range before shipping. Huh. Guess it works out when you're looking for a 11.5* regular and most people are bidding on 9.5* or 10.5* stiff.

I checked out what other new COMPs are going for... Pre-shipping charge, the prices are $280 (16 min left), $200 (5 hours), $193 (5 hours), $255 (6 hours), $225 (6 hours), and $190 (6 hours) for the next 7 in line for their auctions to end...and one of them is used. All of them have had 6+ bids except for the used one, which means the prices are going to go up as the auction draws to a close. Why mine fell into my lap is beyond me, but I'm happy.
The original question still stands, out of curiousity purposes... If you could buy this year's model new over last year's model new for any driver for $50 more...would you do it? Or would you just save the $50 and take the older model?
-
Usually I'd just buy last years model..............but with the outstanding reviews everyone has given the COMP version, I'd spring for it over the regular (still a good driver, but no real jaw-dropping reviews).

Just wait 6 months and the comp prices will dip down to the $170's. The 400s are a steal at $100. The 460 heads are too big imo but when they drop down next year i will give it a shot.

btw-
I've demoed the 460 comp and it is really nice. The key is off-center hits go 10-15 yards further than non comp models.

My problem is I don't own a driver at all. I told myself I wouldn't get one till I had worked out a semi-repeatable swing. Well, I tried the two plane, had some success, switched to a one plane, and now that I'm shooting back in the low 90s I think it's time to make the investment in a driver. Right now I only have two Rescue Mids, and a set of RAC OSs. I can get about 195-225 out of the 16* Mid (depending on fairway hardness), but it sure would be nice to turn some of those 5I approaches into 7/8I ones...especially with how wide open some of the courses I play are.
I was going to buy last year's launcher for about $175...my brother owns one, and I've hit it before and I like it but I need a shaft that's less stiff and a little more loft...and then I saw this beautiful thing on ebay, unbid, for just a few bucks more and I couldn't pass it up.

FYI, Cleveland will be selling the Launcher Ti460 soon:

I don't know how this will affect the Comp pricing...

When I got my driver the comp and standard were the same price...I got the standard as I found it more forgiving...

Well, it arrived today and I swung it about ten times on the range. Keep in mind, I don't own a driver of my own so there was a lot of experimenting going on in those ten swings. Still, I found I was carrying about 210-230 (hard to tell exactly where it was landing) with a nice high ballflight on every shot, and no left to right movement whatsoever (that was my nemesis with my brothers stiff shafted driver). None of those hits were in the sweet spot...all of them were rather high on the face from the middle to about two inchs in toward the heel...so I have some adjusting to do there and I imagine that will add to my distance once I sort it out. I did hit one shot horribly off the extreme heel of the club, and that still went out relatively straight with about 175 carry, so that was encouraging. If a misshit that bad with this club nets me 175, that's light years above what a misshit with my 16* hybrid would have gotten me, and with better direction. Niiiiiice....
