Damn rightGoMocs!! i know 20 handicapers that are better than that!! But i suppose the courses they play are harder: Such as faster greens, or longer holes. But 8 over thru 10 holes, thats not right for a "professional"

and the funny part aboot all this, is that all the ppl criticizing her probly cant even go 8 over through ten on a normal course.... let alone the courses the pros play. Shes a 16 year old girl that can play with the pros, a 16 yr old that plays with the pros is crazy enough, but shes a girl, and she can play that lvl, we havent even really seen it yet, but we know it... she should be playing the the women... but w.e..... but none of you guys know wat your talking aboot..... when you can beat her, then you can criticize her

are you saying give her a break to me? im supporting her!!! i think all these ppl who sit on their asses, (play golf i know) and just rip on professional athletes for having bad rounds or games is retarded. You do not, and i repeat DO NOT have any right to criticize ppl unless you have walked a mile in their shoes and been there yourself, and I KNOW that noone here has been in any situation close to wat Michelle Wie is doing right now in her life, the closest thing anyone here is to her is that their semester exams may be around the same time.

I'll still criticize you until you learn how to spell.

As far as the Wie thing, I think she's definitely good enough to play but needs to develop on her tour first. She's shown the talent but needs to prove herself by getting some wins on the LPGA Tour. She's gonna be good...very good.

No, I can't beat her, and yes, I can criticize her. She is foolish for trying to compete on the men's tour until she has proven she can win on the women's tour. Even Annika admitted she was in over her head when she played with the men a year or so ago, and though Wie may be great in the future, she's no Annika now.
    Seldom right, never in doubt......

...well, she did beat Jimmy Walker...who ever the hell he is! I am sure either one of them could beat me without difficulty, and I do respect them for that, but Wie is nowhere near the golfer Sorenstam is yet (if ever), and even Anika no business playing on the men's tour...my humble opinion. I agree with Sandpiper in that she does deserve some respect for her abilities, but I also agree with Dork...she shouldn't be there. Was Tiger allowed to play in a PGA event at 16?
Alright you primitive screw-heads, listen up. See this? This is my boomstick!

... and for the record, the fact that she makes money off of the fan base for what she does for a living gives you every right to criticize her when you deem necessary. I've stated my opinion in the past, I see this thread going the same direction.

i live in cincinnati ohio and saw the us amatuer. SHe can hit it a mile but has NO short game. I dotn really think she should be playing porfessionally until she had won something as a junior or a ametur. I certainly dotn think she should be playing pga events.

no short game? she has a ok short game. much better than most male or female who play golf out there.

please keep in mind that she is 16. name a 16 yo boy that can play at her level.

of course she is no annika. annika hit more balls than she did.

she had a disaster this time. but lets look at the score board. where is the british open champion todd? us open champion mike wier? where is ryan moore? where is jason gore?

sit down boys and girls. just like each one of us, she needs more time to prove herself. and she is miles ahead.

and the hype around her? cannot blame her much. it is people's and media's expectation of her which is out of her control. people love to see child wonders like tiger woods. may be she is not another tiger woods. she has her own destiny ahead of her.

I certainly did not want to see her embarrassed & was glad she finished with a good round.

BUT, what on earth is she doing? Get back to your own tour & actually WIN an event.

I don't criticize her but she should have to earn a spot on the PGA tour. She displaces a tour pro who earned the chance. She should go to Q School and earn it.

Tiger Woods won a world Junior Championship when he was 8! Morgan Pressel qualified for the Women's US Open when she was 13! She almost won the tournamnet when she was 17. Do you know how many Women's US Opens Wie has qualified for? None. Paula Creamer won a professional tournament, and then the next weekend went to her HS graduation ceremony.

So stop already with the "We can't criticize", "give her time" diatribes. She's signed for huge money, she's showed up for tournament after tournament where's she's supposed to be able to compete and hasn't yet....ONCE! Her amateaur record is nothing compared to other girls out there the same age, or nearly the same age.

To earn respect in golf you have to WIN! Look at MONTY! You guys defending Wie are probably the first ones to totally jump on Montgomery for never winning in the US.

The difference is Michelle Wie is a very attractive young lady. She's tall and thin, and can pound the ball as long as nearly any other woman on the planet. She cannot hit the ball as long as the men, and she cannot play with them either.

Don't come to me with "She beat so-and-so". So what? Nobody in the history of the PGA Tour kept their tour card because they could claim at the end of the year, "I beat XXXX." Nobody cares. Nobody cares who else didn't make the cut! How can you brag that you beat someone who had an off week?

Ya know, I just thought of something. They should have a tournament where the only people that can play have lost their games, then maybe Wie could actually make the cut!

By the way, I have the right to criticize. If she'd stayed in H.S. and studied Geometry than I would have no right, but that's not what she's done. She's been showing up to professional golf events since she was 12, and hasen't proven a thing except that she doesn't know the rules, and doens't have the game yet to play with the top players in this country....or any other country for that matter! She sure is cute though!

I don't think people hate Montgomerie for his golfing skills, many hate him because of his behaviour on and off the course. Frequently surly, childish & disgraceful.

.. and then when things are going well for him, he tries to pretend to be a nice, friendly guy.

I hope he rots in hell.

appreciate your opinion and i think i share many of your sentiments about wie. i think i have enough common sense NOT to give people the impression that people cannot criticize her. it will be foolish for me to take a stand like that. if you are referring to my post as evidence that i think people should not criticize her, you may be mistaken.

meanwhile, my opinion is indeed that i would like to give her more time to prove herself. a career in golf can stretch many years. i think it is premature to see how she develops her golf game with years ahead of her. i do not think couple tournaments will necessarily make or break a golfer, esp her. certainly, in retrospect, most people would not have predicted the lackluster performance from david duval after gaining top spot in the world. i think every person, every golfer has to travel his or her own journey, and each is not necessarily the same as the other. the judgement day is years later.

i did bring up well known names who finished the sony in the similar level as wie to illustrate the point that even though they all did not finish near the top, they are all worthy golfers, that to focus on this particular event is not only unfair but may be also putting things out of perspective.

my belief is that if wie has taken the lpga route, then there would not have been this much attention. some feel insure and insulted when a 16 yr old girl came to take their lunch and has so far failed to do so. Heck, i would have said...I told you so!

but, it takes courage to challenge tradition. she is indeed cute, but i think she has bigger balls than most men. there are easy ways out, but why? (uh oh, that will hurt. )

I never knew this was a competition, outside of maybe a rare Seinfeld episode. Is that like a "Master of the domain" competition??? I can see where you may like the idea that a woman can do this, but do you really want people to know that you are in fact better at this sport.

wie's performance was a joke, yes shes good, yes shes better than 99% of golfers everywhere, BUT the thing i havnt seen mentioned is that she is now a pro who shot +8 on her HOME COURSE......she probably has more rounds logged in there than the entire field combined, ok, so the pin placements were in different spots, and the course was a bit longer than usual, but +8.......not only do i not think shes ready to play with the men, i havnt seen anything that convinces me that she has the course management skill, the maturity, or the intestinal fortitude to consider herself a professional at this point in time.....theres alot more to it than hitting a golf ball, and i just dont think she has it yet......i think she is ill prepared for the life and after all the hype i dont think she could possibly live up to the ridiculous expectations that have been set for her at her age.

    Millions of Reasons

I think there are millions of reasons Michelle Mie need to prove herself. She was given huge contracts from Nike and Sony just to say she was a professional now. But Morgan Pressel is ranked higher for girls under the age of 18. Where is the justice in that. Michelle Wie needs to prove herself. She probably will. But for now I am cheering for Morgan!

Where is Mike Weir - trying to put his back together, as he has been suffered with injury for a few years. By the way, if she can put together a career like his, she would be smiling - 7 PGA wins, including the Masters, 8th in world ranking (currently 48th), numerous top 10's...hell, I'd take that anyday...bad comparisson.
I can't wait for shore leave so I can get me som fukkin' poon-tang.

too bad wie will be not playing lpga consistently this year and possibly the next. certainly i am looking forward to seeing creamer, pressel and wie going for each other's throat on lpga for years to come.

in terms of long term success, if i have to put in 100 dollars to bet on their future success, i will put creamer 40, wie 40 and pressel 20 in the next 5 years

and creamer 35, wie 45 and pressel 20 in the next 10 years.

    Excellent !

She is cute, but she is also a freak of nature, an asian women that tall at age 16 or any age for that matter is freakish, so...she has her own freak show following. If she wins, and she just might, then I'll watch her, until then, she's a delinquent minor who has a whore for a father....

I guess if a one armed golfer showed up and could pound the driver a mile, we'd see that person hawking drivers, wedges etc....it doesnt matter if he can play to win or not, he's a freak in the golf sport. Look at Casey Martin, that kid had a game and was seriously afflicted with some disease of his leg, its a cruel world, even Tiger wouldnt allow him to ride in a golf cart to the tee boxes.

Another "Rich Kid" like that clown Ty Tryon.... he burned through Daddy's bucks pretty fast ! He travelled with his OWN personal masseuse ! .... What a circus that was ! He has game, but so do a lot of guys I played with last summer, having the game is not the same as having the fire to win a professional tournament. I only want to watch those players that have the fire to win....Wie does not. She has some game, but she's along for the ride on the money train, not to win tournaments. Any sponsor that picked her up is going to lose their A**'s, who was it Nike ? ... Figures......Remind me again, How many tournaments has she won ?

Dont be an idiot punk... I lived in China and other parts of Asia for almost 10 years, in my time, the Asians are my friends and business associates, and I NEVER saw one of the almost 3 BILLION people that live there over 5'10" ! Have you ever been outside the borders of this country ? I didnt think so !
Do you think the norm is 6'3" tall 16 yr. old asian women ? What facts do you base that on ? Or are you one of those clowns that doesnt deal in facts or truth ?..... Now YOU look pretty stupid amigo !

Any asian over 6 foot tall, not to mention Wie being almost 6'3" tall and a woman- is a FREAK !

What would you call Shaq ? a normal sized guy ? Sheesh....get off the race card and the politically correct B.S. and learn to call a spade a spade. The world wont hate you because you have an opinion, trust me.

In fact, i am Chinese. i was born in China 40 some years ago. i am educated in the USA and i am a sports medicine physician working with pros in the NYC area. like you, i also have family businesses dealing with China. one of the energy saving light bulbs in your house is probably made in one of my family factories.

i do not want to impose any values onto you or lecture you on manners. i may be a minority here (no pun intended) but i think it is immature and rude to call someone a freak because of ethnic background and height. When you grow up one day and have children of your own, you will appreciate others treat your kids for what they are, not based on physical features. Naming calling often results in violence.

i have no idea what else to call Shaq. you may want to try something else next time you are with him face to face.

Michelle Wie is a Korean American. Korea is not the same as China. but thank you for your interest in China anyway.

    Cheers.

Would "statistical outliers on the bell curve" be a politically correct way of stating that someone is "vertically challenged" or the opposite, "vertically enhanced"?
I agree; "freak" carries some rather negative connotations.

haha, at least we try. if you are in the middle of the curve, you call people on your left and right freaks. if you are on the left side, you name call the left side. if you are on the right side, you point fingers on the left. no matter where you are, you can't lose.

i am close to 6 feet, whew, almost a freak. but since i am asian, i tip the scale, so i am. ;)
