    Your Misses

When your swinging poorly what tends to be your miss. Mines a low shot to the left.

My most common miss is a thin shot that is fanned a little to the right. My least favorite miss is the pull hook that shows up once, maybe twice a round. I'll play for the slice miss if there is trouble right, but the hook usually spells disaster!

i can't think of anything worse than not concentrating and tapping a 3 - 5 foot putt around the cup.

But full swing, I tend to chunk and top seemingly at will. More tops than chunks.

When I get out of sync I cut across the ball wildly that causes a push slice snd occasionally a pull hook. This only happens about once every 4 rounds and i notice straight away because of the divots

My most common miss is a 10 yard pull. Since I like to fade the ball, that shot pisses me off like no other. Once in awhile, I'll blow one right of right with the driver and send wildlife ducking for cover.

My dad has a two way Tiger miss, 80 yards left or 90 yards right. It's hilarious when he compensates for one and gets the other! What's annoying is his troubleshooting, I once saw him hit a 4 iron to two feet when he couldn't see the green because of trees!

Shorter irons - I tend to either lightly top the ball or hit it thin and toward the right a bit

Driver - I tend to have a low flying hook to the left that probably rolls to a stop about 130-150 yards unless something stops it... Sometimes shorter, it has so much side spin that it hits the ground and does a funny hop and damn near stops.... It doesnt happen veyr often with my new driver tho.... very rare indeed.

I will tend to hook an iron and for some unknown reason on occasion I will roll the face of my driver on impact (at least I think that's what happens) an cause alot of top spin.It will take off like a rocket and drop 180 out but I do get alot of roll out of it.

With my new driver it's a huge fade slice, the shaft is a shade stiff and if I dont focus on releasing it I leave the face open. With the irons, my misses are a touch thin and/or a 7-10 yd pull.

My natural game has a slight tendency to produce a very small fade, which I have learned to play with and control. I can keep my shots fairly straight when I need to , but feel comfortable with the controlled fade.

Consequently, the occasional miss is a hook when trying to increase distance, and 'you can talk to a fade, but a draw won't listen' - a hook generally always gets you into trouble.

Other than that, no repetitive or recurrent misses, just a few odd screw ups in all compartments ( chunk a wedge, when it's wet, top one when it's dry....) rarely more than one or two mediocre/bad shots per round ( but generally few more than 3 or 4 shots i'm satisfied with per round).

If i could putt better, i would be shooting close to par every round these days.... insead of 75-77.... not bad putting, but don't sink nearly enough putts over 5-6 feet.....

For me, most of my misses are the result of rushing the swing. Off the tee, it will cause a pull or pull-hook. On the fairway, getting too quick and too vertical will cause the dreaded fat shot; straight but well short of the target.
    Seldom right, never in doubt......

With the driver its usually a slice or block to the right but occasionally its the opposite with a huge pull to the left!

When the drive happens to go down the middle my misses off the fairway (on those important approach shots from about 150) is usually a big fat duff.

Really ruins your day after a good drive.

It's all finally coming together for me. I took some lessons last fall & completely revamped my swing. Before I took the lessons my misses were usually a hard hooking pull that often went OB, into another fairway, or deep into the woods. I still ocassionally yank the ball, but it usually goes no more than 20 yards left without the hook & happens when I try to swing too hard.

Yesterday I played 36 holes on my home course. They had punched the greens a couple of weeks ago, so there was still a fair amount of sand on them, but they weren't terrible bumpy. I played the first 18 with 3 friends & only hit a couple of bad shots. One bad chip that cost me a stroke & I popped up a drive on a short par 4, but still pared it. It was my best round on that course, I shot a 84 from the white tees.

My second round, I played solo from the blue tees. I shot a 44 on the front, but lost my legs for a few holes on the back. That cost me about 4 strokes, I ended with a 90.

Now the majority of my bad shots fall short & slightly right. I now hit a high fade which is a lot easier to control than the big draw I used to play. I'm starting to get comfortable with the swing changes & can see myself breaking 80 for the first time this year if I can keep on top of my short game.

This afternoon I'm heading out to a ball buster course called McCormick Woods, I haven't played there in a while. It has OB on nearly every hole & any errant tee shots is either OB or in the woods. This will be a real test of my new game. It really is a spectacular course, the epitomy of Western Washington Golf.

Mccormick woods is an amazing course! we played there and at your course (gold mountain) on our trip down there for our golf team, McCormick woods is one of my fav courses ive ever played, great challenging holes, and a few perfect risk/reward holes, the way golf was meant to be played right there.

    Hitting it Fat

My most common miss is to hit it really fat. I've realized that when I do this, I don't feel pressure on my left knee (I believe I am swaying when this happens).

With my fairway woods, I tend to top the ball. Probably due to swaying.

My instructor is working with me on this. I was hitting it really well about 3 weeks ago and then suddenly started screwing up badly. Had another lesson from the same guy and he's working me into a better position and I'm back to getting used to the modified stance. I asked him, why he's telling me not to do something that he told me to do in Lesson #1 and his response was "You were moving so much, I had to get you in a position where you couldn't move. Now we're trying to refine it so you can get more power." Unfortunately, the revised stance makes it easier to sway. At least now I know it when I don't swing properly.

Looking forward to getting that easy swing back. I walk 9 in the morning a couple of days a week. Shot a 47 which was a record for me. Yesterday, shot a 55. However, I was not out there working on my score, I was getting exercise before work and I hit some good shots, a bunch of horrific shots, and some that were really nice.

I just started playing in January, so I'm still trying to develop a nice, repeatable swing.

According to my playing partners, it is most obvious when I miss because the ball goes straight and far.
