What are the best forged CBs
I currently play with Mizuno T-zoid Pro II's, purchased off ebay with new grips for $120. I like them, but don't love them. If you are not familiar with them, they about as close to a blade that you can get without actually being a blade. On off center shots, they usually go about the same distance, less carry but more roll(except for 3-5 irons). When hit well, they feel good but not amazing. I am thinking of getting new irons for next year, and I think that a forged CB would probably best fit me. Here is what I want:
-mid ball flight
-good forgiveness
-small/mid headsize
-great feel
-lightweight
-under $250(probably buy off ebay)
-
a good bet would be the titleist 704cb's, they are forged cavity backs but fairly forgiving.
if you want forged cavity backs tha are pretty easy to hit take a look at the ben hogan apex forged or cleveland ta3 irons
-
Mizuno MX-23's the whole way. Forged and forgiving, what else can you expect?
My set:
Titleist 905T w/ Grafalloy Blue S
TaylorMade R7 Steel 15*
Skymax Ice Resolve hybrid 19*
Mizuno MP-32 4-PW
Titleist Vokey Raw 50* & 60*
TaylorMade RAC TP 56*
Bettinardi BHB1.C

I'm sure there are lots out there that are nice forged CB's, but I whole-heartedly agree with EMC. Mizuno MX-23's are fantastic sticks. They're fantastick when struck pure, and about as forgiving as you can get when off-center. Thin shots get you most of the way if not all the way home...fat shots are just fat, can't help you there.

I have a T-zoid pro II 6iron in with set of Mizuno MRX cavity backs. It was missing the 6i but for $10 it was deal at the time. I played 2 seasons with that set and liked the 6i. I was actually looking to get the whole set for a while but couldn't find a good enough deal. If I were you I would put that money away and add to it little by little. Test some different irons and stalk Ebay for a deal. I got lucky and scored my Miura's for $325, the set goes for over $1300 with the Nippon shafts and they were in like a 9.5 condition. If the T-zoids are in decent shape you should be able to get at least $100-$150 reselling them on Ebay after too. If you play a hybrid there are also good deals on irons w/only 4 or 5-pw.
-
Callaway X Tour irons are forgiving and soft, with tons of workability, a lot of the reviews say people lose distance, but that is only because the irons have a higher loft per club than the averaged juiced up club. Won 3 of the las 4 majors.
-
I see not too many people read the last line.... under $250. Most of the irons mentioned run at least twice that.
-
KZG makes some great forged cavity backs. I bet you could find them for under $250 on eBay.

This set is at $325.
I used to play an older version and still miss them from time to time.

actually, would a Regular Flex graphite KGZ CB II-Ms be fine for a 5'3" tall woman? Could I have the shafts reduced .5" or an 1" for the lady?

MacGregor 1025C V-Foil VIP Forged
MacGregor 1025C V-Foil VIP Forged..easily under $250 at EBAY.
Got my set: #3~PW.

best forged CB irons are definantly Mizuno MX-23's. these things are sweet being flow grain forged and all i thought that they wouldnt be as forgiving but they are. Mizuno is the god of forging, but others i can think of off the top of my head that are good forgers are: Ben Hogan, and Titleist. also check out the MX-900 irons.
its a good thing for Mizuno that PING dosent make forged irons though.

How well do you like the Macgregors? AFter reading some reviews, I think I will get the M565's next winter/spring. They are supposedly 2 clubs longer and feel sweet, according to other reviewers.

I picked up a set of Hogan Apex Edge pro irons off ebay last year for around 300, you should be able to find a set of these in your price range on Ebay. Forget the Mx-23 and all the others, once you go Hogan you will never go back.
-
Find a set you like, keep scouring ebay until you find it for cheap enough, and buy them. My advice would be to look at MX-23's, MP-60's, Hogane Edge FTX's, 704 and 804 Titleists
My set:
Titleist 905T w/ Grafalloy Blue S
TaylorMade R7 Steel 15*
Skymax Ice Resolve hybrid 19*
Mizuno MP-32 4-PW

they look good and come with good reputation: two of the three traits a man would look for in irons (or in a woman)...
since i'm on golf iron "honeymoon" so i've gotta play several rounds to pass a fair judgement...

I had a set of the MacGregors several years ago. They are super sweet feeling and quite long. I like the muscle/cavity design. They are a good choice, and inexpensive, too.
Seldom right, never in doubt......
-
another good forged CB is the Hogan BH-5 (i think that they are forged if i remember right) i hit those again yesterday and forgot how nice they were. i mean there not going in my bag but still good clubs.

If you don't mind a buying used off eBay, you can get a set of Mizuno MX-20's for a deal. They're the predecessor to the MX-23's I believe. The head is just slightly smaller, but they hit very well.
-
Mizuno MX-23's without a shadow of a doubt.
TM r5 TP Diamana 83
Mizuno F-50 15*
Cobra Baffler 20*
Mizuno MP-57 4-PW
Mizuno MP-T 52*

I prefer/play the Mizuno MX-20. They can be had on E-bay for good prices.
I actually like them better than the MX-23. The MX-20's have less offset and a slimmer topline.
IMO you can't go wrong with Mizuno when it comes to forged irons.
-
Callaway X-tours are great clubs.
-
"forged" they are not. Under "$250" they are not. What part of the thread DID you read?
The San Diego Padre's sometimes wear "Camo" uniforms. There, I helped too.
MX-20's are solid clubs as are the Mac's. Now, I've helped more, good day. =)

Mizuno MP-30 3-6i
Mizuno MP-37 7-PW

Cleveland CG11 60*
Ping Anser 4

best forged CB's that I can think of for under $250 are Hogan Apex Plus. The model is a few years old now but they're really close to the newer Hogan FTX. I've seen them on Ebay for as low as $100 for a well used set and around $200-$250 for sets in better condition.
IMHO they're definitely a sweet feeling set of clubs and for the price a great deal.
-
You'l struggle to get any of these clubs for under $250, except on ebay
My set:
