What kind of car do you drive?

My charade of awesome threads continues, so post em'. At least when the 13 year olds post that they drive Lamborghini's we'll know they're lying.

I drive a 1995 VW Passat GLX with a stick. It is dark blue.

    "Walkin"
    "Where?"

I agree with Lyle, those moped things sound like a broken hoover.
    Feels just like it should.

    I normally drive a 97 Geo Prizm.
Or on the days that my wife has that car, I get stuck driving our 'lobotomy boat', a 90 Dodge Dynasty.

The best part is our Dynasty has a furry leopard print steering wheel cover, so I look like a pimp.

I've always been partial to the classic Vespa's... those are pretty sweet little scooters, though they put out a lot of pollution.

95 M3.... it was new once eh? People at work dog me for having such an old car but I'm still pretty ok with it. It's triple black. Or exterior is Cosmos Black, Black Leather and black trim inside.... Darth Vaders ride.

Thanks Sandpiper, I know your not too fond of Americans but if you ever make it to L.A. I'll take you out for a spin. The only other person who has driven it is my brother. I was too drunk to drive after his company christmas party. (Waaaayyyy too many Irish Car Bombs) It looks cool now, but my chick wanted to kill me when I first brought it home. (ok I had it towed home) Here's what it looked like before the 2 years it took me to restore it.

Lyle I might as well have. I bought another Mustang off a little old lady who had one in her backyard that had a tree growing through the engine compartment just so I could put those parts on the convertible. She said give me fifty dollars and it's yours. So I went back with a chain saw cut the tree down and dragged it off her ranch. Saved a ton of money. She had about fourty cars back there. All classics. Here's the engine compartment now.

Thanks Lyle. I actually got pretty pissed off when I bought it, though. I went to the dealership brand new. I knew they were on their 6th year of the same body style so I asked the guy if they were planning on coming out with a new body style any time soon. I told him I would personally come back and seek him out for the sale if they were coming out with a new body style within the next year so he'd get the commission. He said he hadn't heard anything about it. Within 2 months of me buying it they announced the RSX-S. I was livid. Maybe he didnt know, i dunno, but if he just wanted the bird in the hand rather than the two in the bush that makes me angry. I love the car, dont get me wrong, but I really like the RSXs also. Plus a little newer, little smarter :P

On an unrelated note, I also have an old beat up 1974 Corvette. I started restoring it for my senior project back in high school ages ago but years of paying off the integra as well as paying private university and now graduate school fees tapped out my time and my budget. Sad too, just sitting there waiting to look purdy.

Hunt him down.... no way on earth he didn't know. Everyone at cardomain.com knew a year prior to that and Acura dealers are very well informed of their products and happenings. He screwed you, not that it's not a nice ride but he screwed you all the same.

Actually you'd be surprised what a nice job Mazda has done with the 6 if you haven't driven one, drives a bit like a BMW 3 series.

As for the F355, its 2 models old now but still in my opinion the best looking modern Ferrari , and dynamically its way better than the cars they produced in the 80's. I don't actually drive in New York, though I am thinking of joining this... http://manhattan.classiccarclub.com/ which actually works out cheaper than paying the 500 plus per month it costs to park here.

2005 Hyundai Accent. Cheap and pretty fuel efficient (34 mp/gallon highway). However, some hail damage pretty much spoiled whatever trade-in value it ever had. ::shrugs:: Oh well, there's nothing wrong with the car, and the warranty is 5 years

HAHAhAHAHAAHAHAHA!!!!! Oh my god that is awesome. I have read some funny shite on this board, but the thought of someone draping their wife over the hood of their car, magazine style, is just awesome. I love it.

Sing, I had always suspected that you were a bit of a douchebag, given your boasting about your salary and whatnot. Now I guess we have absolute positive 100% proof. That is so f'ing lame. Even if it was tounge in cheek, still so lame....

And finally, if you really think a Mazda 6 drives like a 330, then you are too stupid to actually own a Ferrari.

BMW 328is, last car was an 90 944 Turbo. It was my first car too. How I didn't wreck it I have no idea. The 328 is supposed to tide me over until I get my baby.

Actually my wife is a model, the shots weren't taken by me.

I never said a Mazda 6 drives like a 330, more like a 318 or 320, cars which have never to my knowledge been shipped to the USA. And I have owned two BMW's and two Mazda 6's one manual (stick shift) and one automatic. Try searching for the comparison on the web, it is a well documented one.

Now you don't have to believe a word I say, up to you, or you could actually try and learn something about cars you probably never have driven. But trust me, driving a 355 through France at up to 160 mph is something pretty special.

If you had ever owned a Ferrari or similar you would realise they are not in any sense everyday cars, for one the only way to get a set of golf clubs in the car is to have them on the passenger side with the roof down, the Mazda which I had in Europe was the everyday car. No-one of my acquaintance ever had just a Ferrari.

    1. In addition to billionare and Ferrari owner, we are now adding model wife. I feel honored to have met you, even if over the internets.

    2. The fact that the shots were taken by someone else does not make it any less hilarious, and maybe even more, since it was clearly not done as a farce. "Oh honey, I have a fantastic idea, lets get a professional photographer to do a spread of you on my car. Brilliant!"

    3. I have a 330, and have driven a 6, and I have to stand by my argument that if you think there's any similarity between any 3-series and the Mazda, you're an idiot. But hey, if you read it on the web, it must be true.

    4. When did I say a Ferrari was an everyday car? WTF are you talking about?

    1. You are welcome. By the way there may well be a relationship between the first two and the third.... (though billionaire is overstating it somewhat)

    2. Those shots in the magazines have to be of someone, I never said it was my idea.

    3. Again the comparison is between the Mazda 6 and the lower power 3 series, the 330 is the top of the range and goes like sh!t off a shovel. I have read it on the web but more importantly I have owned both for a number of years, you may disagree but thats my opinion which is why I bought the Mazda for my wife rather than a 3 series which is very cramped in the back.

    4. If you own a Ferrari you have to have another car, mine was/is a Mazda 6, the original point way back in this thread was that no Ferrari owner would also own a Mazda, sorry but I do.

One more point, try out the RX-8, great cars to drive if not to own.

I guess my only remaining question is why is a ferrari-owning, model-screwing billionaire doing on golfreview.com so much, for instance at midnight on Sunday?

It's not midnight where I am. And my wife is not a model, just an everyday hot chick. And I don't drive a Ferrari, just a crappy 330. And I'm not a billionaire. We lead very different lives I guess. But who knows, maybe I can be you when I grow up!

I'm not doubting any of what you are saying, that'd be pointless. I am however questioning your statement about the 6 and the lower 3 series model.

I test drove the 6. It is a very nice car for the money. But honestly at best you can compare it with a 318, the 4 cylinder low end three series. Comparing it to the 325, the 328 (which I have) models, i, is, or ic, is kind of ridiculous. I'd take the 6 cylinder bimmer over the mazda 6 any day of the week (and I did). If you want to compare it to a 4 cylinder 318ti, then that would be pointless considering that your 6 is a 6 cylinder if its an s model (unless of course you have the new speed6, which is a whole different beast all together, or you have the i series, in which case then you'd be really looney trying to compare a 4 cylinder mazda to that of a 6 cylinder bimmer).

Can you explain your comparision? What kind of 6 do you have? What kind of BMW were you trying to compare it to (more specifically).

    .
Thats what I am comparing it with. My first new car was a BMW 318i, some time ago now, and I've driven my brother's 320 since then, he has now graduated to the 325 or is it 328?

Clearly (or obviously not..) I'm not comparing the 6 cylinder BMW's to the 6 (gets confusing), my point was always that the Mazda drives to me like the sort of BMW you could get for the same money, the 318 or even the 316 which was pretty horrible and I'm sure they don't make them anymore.

Not only does the Mazda drive pretty well you can actually get adults in the back seats which is pretty difficult in the BMW. I love BMW's as driver's cars (a friend has the M5) but the Mazda really suprised me, I'd like to try one of the more powerful versions they are bringing out now.

Unless you have a speed 6 than it' nothing like a BMW. ANY BMW, it's front wheel drive you toon and suffers from some of the worst torque steer ever displayed in a car. OK, worst may be pushing it, but drives like a Bimmer? I'm afaid not. I've owned a 320i a 320i Turbo (aftermarket as the only turbo BMW to make it to the states was a 2002 Turbo Tii, which I've had the pleasure of driving... fuel cell and all) and a 323i (grey market not the new ones but a 320i with a straight 6 in it). That baby could fly. It was 13 years old and some guy begged me to sell it to him which is why I ended up with the M3. Again, no mazda could compare even the Speed 6, which is indeed an interesting ride....

The sheer idea of anyone owning a Ferrari AND a Mazda is beyond ANY enthusiasts dreams so you'll excuse us all when we scream BS... try some plausible stories or don't tell any at all please.

Remember the specs for cars are different wherever you go in the world, the US does not get all the models that are produced, I have specifically said I am comparing base models, the 318i and the base Mazda 6.

And by the way the Mazda is my wife's car,

Oh and I also own a 4X4 which I never drive.

And I'M saying no front wheel drive car compares to a rear wheel drive car in terms of handling. The only thing even close, if you learn to drive it properly, is a classic Mini Cooper S.....

When you are talking about high powered heavy sports cars such as a Ferrari or Porsche I would agree with you, also when you are looking at light sports cars such as the Triumph Spitfire (which I used to drive) without much power I would also agree. But when we are talking about underpowered heavy saloon cars the difference is marginal (note IMHO).

If you have any desire to own an underpowered heavy salon car what the hell are you even talking about cars in relation to handling for? Who the hell would care how it handles if it isn't worth driving?

And I wouldn't say that about the Mazda 6, it's not a bad car.... you're just a poor representative.

And so we come back to exactly what I was saying in the first place, the Mazda 6 is not a bad car, it reminds me of the BMW 3 series that I used to drive.

No-one is saying the cars are not worth driving, but they are/were underpowered in their base incarnations which as a rule do not generally make it to the US. As I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth I could only afford the base model BMW and I stand by my comment that at that power/weight ratio front/rear wheel drive makes very little difference. The geared Mazda was fairly peppy but the automatic is slightly sluggish.

I bow to your superior automotive knowledge, secure in my belief that you are a better driver than I am and have oodles more experience of driving all types of cars in each different market in the world. Clearly you are a much better representative....

    2005 Toyota Sienna - Nah that's my wife's car.

2001 Mustang GT Conv. Fun, especially in the sun and as someone else said, no car payment.

Prior daily driver was a 1966 Must. Conv. which my dad and I had fully restored from the ground up. Hated to give it up but not the best car with two little ones and car seats.

    Subaru Outback. White over gray...

FTR, I am neither a lesbian nor do I hunt crocodiles. I do ride a bike, however, upon occasion.
