Yeah, I found out who Brian was 5 years ago, and we became online friends ever since.

I hated that bastard for a long time, though, but now I cry at Brian's passing; pretty strange. Maybe I am going crazy caring for some nice man that I never had the good fortune to meet in person.

The obituary will be up in 2 days, according to his daughter. Brian wanted to be cremated, and have his ashes scattered in the Mississippi River near his hometown.

Quite a sobering event for me, really. We have talked on the phone quite a bit, before, and I will miss Brian.

But he just posted on this forum as recently as 3 days ago?

Even you wouldn't joke about something like this would you Spankdog?

Wow, very sad news indeed. Seemed like a genuinely good guy. He will be missed for sure. Rest in peace good friend.

Spank, I reposted this over at SHottalk as Brian posted there a fair bit as well.

Dorkman has been one of the stalwarts of this forum since I joined 2 1/2 years ago and I always enjoyed reading his posts. He was always extremely helpful and had a great knowledge of equipment being a self confessed club ho. This seems strange given I didn't even know him but I am going to really miss the guy on this forum.

    R.I.P. Dorkman.

I became worried about D-Man when he didn't respond to posts he would normally not have left alone. I just got a strange and disturbing feeling. Not playing the Shirley McClain card, I'll just add it to the list of things I've encountered that I'll never figure out.

D-Man was one of my favorite longtimers here. I appreciated his integrity, warmth and biting humor. I respected his intelligence, independence, open mind and willingness to defend logic against a flaming, anarchistic majority.

When I think of him I think of some of the funnier threads we've had since I've been a member that had his fingerprints on them. He will definitely be missed.

Considering the sadness I feel, only having known him for a short time and through this forum, my heart really goes out to his family. My prayers are with them.

Very eloquently put Lorenzo and I agree 100%. You've summed up my own thoughts better than I could. I noticed he wasn't posting much lately but just assumed he was away or wasn't interested in recent threads. However his last post was only 3 or 4 days ago. Advice re Pebble Beach. A typically helpful and thoughtful final post from Dorkman.

My prayers are also with Dorkman's family.

What a sad first post to read today. Like alot of posters (trolls) here, I have locked horns with DM in friendly banter several tmes over my short time here, and I will sorely miss his sharp retorts to my flaming attempts. Dorkman was someone who could mix it with the best of us, but he always did it with integrity and in a way that you could never take things personally or take offence to anything he posted. He was a true gentleman and will be missed.

Dorkman, you are way too young to be leaving us. We will all miss you.

Take off your shades and bow your head, GwithS. Dorkman has been an honored member of GR for 7 plus years. His humor and general love for the game always showed in his posts. I imagine he was a great friend, spouse, and family man.

My sympathies go out to D-man's family & friends. He was one of the most prominent posters on this forum and quite the wordsmith...I often had to consult the dictionary when reading his posts. I will miss his wit & sense of humor.

That's just terrible. I hope he went out flaming someone or hit the best shot he'd ever hit. Something honorable that we'd all be proud of.

I haven't posted over here in years, but when i heard about this, I had to show my face.

My thoughts are with Brian's family. He was a great guy.

And big move by Spank posting the news. I, we, all appreciate it Spank. Thanks.

Geeze, it seems like yesterday that D53 and I were conversing about how crazy online golfing forums can be. As I mentioned, great guy.

If he made this up I'll ban him too.

Right now though, I'm still on board.
It could easily be a relative checking out his bookmarks. I've seen people post about the event using the descendant's screen name before.

Spank will wish he was in short order I suspect. What a piece of ****.

also, dorkman, you are in an interesting position, you get a glimpse of what people really think of you. There are postings all over the place and all of them are filled with good wishes and fond memories.

When spank finally dies I think there will be nary a chirp in the internet ether.

This is F*****g unbelievable but you know what Dorkman I was kind of hoping this was the case. I initially questioned whether Spank was pulling a stunt but none of us thought that even he would stoop this low. I didn't realise he was this much of a f******g A$$hole. I noticed he didn't reply to me or any others that questioned whether he was serious.

Anyway welcome back from the dead. Your "passing" elicited genuine sadness on this golf forum as I'm sure you can tell from reading the posts.

Surely Spank deserves a lifetime ban for this stunt.

The only good thing about this thread...

... is that it seemed to bring a lot of old members out of the wood work to pay their respects to DM. Even though they aren't posting here these days they must still keep an eye on the place.

Happy to see the rumor was false. May you have many healthy years ahead of you.

While Spank has to be scraping the bottom of the gene pool to post something like this, it does show how much we take for granted.

    Live in Peace my friend.

Most of the "old guys" from here heard via one of your members who posted on our board that Spank had posted Dorkman had died. Most of us have posted with Dorkman over the years so came over to pay our respects.

It's good to be back, though not from the dead. It's also reassuring that as much as Spank was able to dig up on that little English punk a couple of years ago, he had know idea about my name or age; just wild guesses in an attempt to sound bona fide.

I actually think spanktard was trying to flush out some of the other former posters.

Who knows but I guess we really shouldn't be surprised by this.

We should unban spank just for crocodile-teared apology thread.

No, he already has multiple accounts. He is without a doubt having conversations with himself will flame himself, to try to gather sympathy for his SpankDog persona or make people think that it is not him. It is just the way he operates. He always has several screen names going at the same time. He is probably two or three of the people posting their condolences in this thread.

People are talking about old posters, like myself, coming out of the woodwork to pay respects to DM53. If Francois made an effort to eliminate Spank from his boards, most of us would still be actively posting here. I used to be a very active poster on this board, as well as Mountain and Road Bike Review. I will still write reviews from time to time, but for the most part, I stay away from the consumer review boards. I just get tired for Spank's BS.

Good to see the news was wrong Dorkman. Now that you're not dead we can resume hostilities and I can go back to saying what I really think about you

I must admit I wasn't as offended as the rest of the board and even had a little chuckle when I found out Spank had had a lend of us all. I don't think bans are in order for pulling off what was really a great hoax. The fact that someone with Spank's reputation could still have us fooled just shows how convincing Spank can be. And the news of DM's resurrection answers the question everyone was asking: Yes, Spank can stoop that low and would plunge to any depths to get a good thread going.

Personally, I'm just glad it was a prank and that DM still lives. If the 'victim' of this prank bears no grudge, who are we to hold hard feelings towards Spank. Isn't that right 'Brian'?

P.S. Unban Spank immeidately. It's not his fault we all allowed our moral correctness to override our well placed suspicions.

P.P.S. In hindsight, the "we have talked on the phone quite a bit" comment really should have had us questioning the truth a little more.

Frankly, if anybody else in the world knew who "Dorkman53" was, I might have been more than a little bit upset, considering the false news might be distressing to someone who knows me. But let's face it, folks. If my mother or wife had stumbled across this board and read that "Dorkman is dead," neither would have had a clue who he is or was. It really didn't bother me all that much. I just take Spank for what he is, and let it roll off my back.
If he had posted my true name, I would have been furious.

Being the skeptic that I am, I didn't allow myself to get sucked into this thread until after the resurrection. The "obituary will be up in two days" seemed quite fishy as well as using the term "bastard" on a freshly deceased friend. By the way, I've been in the Tetons and Yellowstone many times. Did you enjoy the wonderful views and wildlife Dman? My buddy was out there at a dude ranch about 2 weeks ago and got a foot of snow one day.

In the Tetons, we saw a black bear at about 50 yards, and in Yellowstone, a grizzly sow and her cub, but from WAY off. Even with binoculars, they were just recognizable as bears. We had a group of mountain goats cross the road in front of us, and got some great bison shots. One bison went directly in front of our stopped car; the photo of that view through a zoom lens meant that the whole frame was filled just with the head.
The Tetons are arguably the most beautiful mountains in the lower 48 states, and are extremely photogenic from a number of angles. My favorite view was from North Jenny Lake.
Yellowstone is simply unique in the world, due to the extent of the geothermal activity.
It was a great trip, and I'm glad I drove safely and arrived home alive, to find out that I was dead.......

My Montana home is 100 miles NW of West Yellowstone. Regretably, I had to put it on the market earlier this month. I'm yearround in Fla. again. Glad to see you made it back safely.

a mother grizzly with cub so far away that through binoculars they are barely discernable as bears is about the correct distance to be. any closer and this thread may have been all to real.

No need to un-ban him. He's got like 3 aliases on the go right now. I say he's gone schizo myself... I would too if a dead man returned from the grave to discredit me like that.

Kind of like I'd react if someone made fun of my Hammer driver (with bonus three-wood).

I am with you here. That any of the posters on here believed anything that Spank had to say beggared belief. Hell if he told me the sun rises in the morning and sets at night i would want to see it with my own eyes.

He is plainly a wanker and deserving of our vilest and most venemous abuse and we cant do it if hes banned. I dont want to attack some anonymous pseudo(tm)nym, give me the real spank so we can rip a strip of his lying s*cumbag a*rse.

Unban Tessee and unban Spank, hes a c*unt and we need to be able to tell him.

Welcome "back" DM!? I guess that's the proper way to say it?

I just read through all the posts and am disgusted. Well, I'm happy to see that we all let the armor down and wished DM nothing but great wishes, but Spank is just a despicable human being. And human being is a stretch.

    C'mon Spank,

Get back on this thread (as yourself or an alias) and post something that will generate more interest. It will be a travesty if this thread doesn't make it as a 100 poster.

Reading back over this thread it is unbelievable how sucked in we all were. I guess we know Spank better now and will never fall for something like that again. What really does it for me is that Spank himself had the audacity to come back on and post as 'Golfer with Shades' and his first post is "Wait what happened?"

LOL - what a legendary DB!

Of course there are 2 other possiblilities.

1 Spank could be very mild mannered, intelligent, and well employed. He just does this internet shtick to raise pulses and BP's. Which of course is not very likely.

2 Spank is a DB working at a dead end job were he is too inadequate and shady to get ahead. The gas station's breakfast burritos all get fromunda cheese and the pretzels all get stinkpalmed. Yes that's spank with the cash register that always come up short, full of pimples, gap teeth and 9.75 out of 10 calves.

I have long favored the "bipolar, manic-depressive who periodically goes off his medication" theory. It would explain a lot, including the episodic, explosive number of posts, as well as some of the irrationality we frequently see. And then again, he could be just a very insignificant person who gets bored with the tedium of a relatively meaningless existence. All of the negative attention he receives for his bizarre and disruptive behavior is better than no attention at all, at least in his mind.

So, this is why Spank was banned? He posts a masterpiece and you guys banned him? He should have been made administrator of the site.

At least if he was the administrator, he'd spend more time looking at the board than the "real" administrator......

(Let everybody understand, I'm talking about the administration of the board, NOT the board's moderators)

Believe me, he doesn't need to be "brought back." He's already here. He's always here.....

I know, I'm just trying to bump this thread up to 100 posts to give it the legendary status it deserves (no offence to you and your family DM ). Thanks for the opportunity to give it another bump.

Sorry for editing my post after you quoted it. Perhaps you should re-quote it in it's new form for thoroughness?

P.S. It would be only fitting that you are the one responsible for takng this thread to the magical 100 mark in Spanks extended absence.
