When and where did golf originate?
I have seen the comments on www.ebayoyo.com,as they said :"Golf originated in scotland in the 1600's. "
But I need to know more details about it,so any other ideas?

First mistake is to trust anything from the ebayoyo website.

Since I'm Asian, I would rather "educate" the others here

Golf originated in China/Asia way before 1400/1600's in Scotland. Check out this link:
http://www.golf-information.info/asi...n-of-golf.html
But due to western history/culture being what it is, no one thinks about Asian origins....LOL

This a legitimate topic....
Golf was created by a man named Peter McCurvindoun in 1560. Peter had made a small fortune supplying floggers to Queen "Bloody" Mary of England throughout most of the 1550's. Mary I was a fierce Catholic ruler who enoyed flogging protestant leaders in front of large crowds before publicly executing them. Peter designed the first floggers that had small leather wraped rubber balls attached to the end of a switch. These switches were the first that could welt, lash, and bruise the flesh all at the same time.
His flogging business took a major hit in 1558 with the passing of Mary. With inventory starting to pile up, Peter found a new use for his leather wrapped rubber balls (flogs...he called them). He knew that billiard games were already quite popular across much of England and the rest of Europe. These games were played with mallets and large wooden balls. Peter bought a small piece of land near Murifield and began playing lawn billiards over much longer distances thanks to the increased distance capablility of his Flog balls. After recieving little interest in his game which he originally called Flog, he began to spell flog backwards...GOLF...and the rest is history.

Just be glad the US has never pulled its markers. We've forgiven more loans in Africa than the rest of the world has given.

Golf began in Scotland in the late 16th century.
It ended when I played my first round in 1976, and it has not recovered from that tragedy.
Some still call it golf, but only those who have not seen me play.

Other countries are not likely to be so "philanthropic" towards us.
