    Hybrids vs. Fairway Woods

I have two hybrids...( yeah I know some of you guys are against hybrids, but when you play as little as I do, you need them. Y.E hit a hybrid to beat Tiger...) and I crush the 22 degree, but can't hit the 19 degree to save my life. Same club manufacturer, same shaft, same swing.

Are 5 woods easier to hit than say a lower lofted hybrid like an 18 or 19 degree? Or is this just in my head?

I just started using one a couple weeks ago and hit it horribly the first few times. Until the pro I was playing with said, "swing it like an 8 iron." I trusted him and have been crushing it ever since. So, swing it like an 8 iron. I would've preferred a 7 wood but try to find one!

In general I find the 7 wood to be a preferable club over a low lofted hybrid. It flies higher and typically longer. If you don't play a lot you most certainly would find it easier to hit a wood than a low lofted hybrid. Outside of the pro's I don't get why so many people carry hybrids with less than 20* of loft. Most are just kidding themselves and can only hit the low lofted hybrid consistently if they tee it up.

Longer shaft on fw woods tend to magnify typical amateur mistakes, shorter hybrid shafts are ofter easier to control. That said, lower loft offsets the advantage of the shorter shaft and increases sidespin..

    Nice,
On the other hand, I was actually making a good faith response to Duddles, not concentrating on another guy's "equipment." I'll get right to work on that reported Johnson deficiency though.

If you had read the newbie code of conduct you would know that your response was totally inappropriate.

I've read 'em, but consider the rules posted by FreakOfNature to be more approriate than those advocated by 3W, I'll go with the former.
    Thanks,

Thanks for the insight. Your "dutch uncle" approach to educating newbies is one of the highlights of this board ... that and the undoubted wealth of golf information.

Why can't someone just come on the board and ask a golf question? Why does everything on the board have to be a "pissing contest?" Thanks for the honest answers to those who gave them.

I'd have the frequency of both shafts checked. One might be out of tolerance.

What are your misses with the 19* compared to the 22* If the shafts are fine it's probably your swing.

Do you guys hit your hybrids in about the same place as a 3/5 wood? When I first hit them, I hit them from the middle of my stance. A pro advised me that hybrids are supposed to be played towards your left heel (for a righty). Of course, you can move the ball back if you want to hit a punch or a stinger, but the proper position is forward in your stance. Am I wrong?

I feel that hybrids are gay. Man up go the range hit a bunch with the woods and you'll do fine. Isn't a 7 wood similar to a 4 iron?

3 iron. My 7 wood's got the loft of my Mizuno 3i at 21 degrees. I can hit this high or low, left or right. My 3i I can do the same, but not with the regularity I can with my 7 wood.

Sorry but we have had a poll on this (when you have been around a while you will realise that the result of a poll is binding) and hybrids are no longer gay, sorry.
