    A hint of irony

Despite the long raging argument as to the true definiteion of irony, I will take a risk and post something I think is ironic.

How ironic that Michelle Wie's first win was in the Lorena 'o choker' invitational. I find a certain synergy that she would finally break through for a win in an invitational of women's golf's biggest major choker. It's a bit like when Sergio almost won the Greg Norman International a few years ago out here. Sergio lost by a shot to Badds, but was penalised 2 shots on the Saturday for taking an incorrect drop. He took illegal relief from an advertising board on the advice of his playing partner, who ironically was none other than the Shark himself.

Note that as this thread was essentially about a womens golf tourney I followed correct GR protocol and posted it in the non golf section.

Wasn't it about 6 years ago when she was declared the number 2 woman golfer in the world, before she had won anything?
She finally won something on her 65th try. Well, better late than never. An anti-climax is better than no climax at all.......
    Seldom right, never in doubt......

Are we still talking golf here, or has this thread now become about night putting?

She was mistakenly overhyped for several years BUT the ironic thing is that Michelle Wie would beat any of you on here with her eyes closed

Of course, and so would anybody on the Champion's Tour.
I think what was so annoying about her is that she was annointed "The Next Annika" before she had won anything.
Plus, her "overly involved" parents made her an inviting target.
She has proven "low hanging fruit" for critics, myself included. There has just been so much to dislike, including the playing against men publicity stunts that turned out so badly. I'm glad she finally got a chance to be on the Soleheim team, did well, and is acquiring a bit of maturity, and gaining acceptance among her peers. I assume she is coming to the conclusion that she has some competent competitors, and she isn't going to be another "Tiger," the dominant figure who commands all the journalists' attention, and isn't going to win the Masters, one of her goals expressed several years ago.
    Seldom right, never in doubt......

That's why NAH posted it in the Non Golf Forum.

I would blame the path she has taken on her parents. They could have, and should have pulled the reins back on Her doing the mens tourneys but they didn't. She really needed to learn how to win in the LPGA before dong any dog and pony shows on the PGA she did.

Totally her parents' fault...I feel sorry for her, her early career turned into a total debacle. This win is a huge monkey off her back though, hopefully she doesn't go "hey, I won, now I can go play against the men..." That is what her dad is thinking I'm sure...

"Stage parents" can be a major problem for young prodigies in many fields. My wife read a book about Ling Ling, the famous Chinese pianist, now acknowledged as arguably the best pianist in the world, and he's still in his 20's. His father was worse than Michelle Wie's parents, if such a thing was possible. He was an absolute slave driver, and was obnoxious to the judges and people with influence in the music hierarchy. However, Ling Ling eventually got the upper hand when he moved to the US, and his father had trouble learning English.

Unfortunately, Michelle Wie's parents apparently speak English.....

Michelle Wie's parents are absolutely nothing compared to some of the parents I've seen in soccer and baseball.... child actor parents in Hollywood are probably by far the worst in the world...trying to live out their hollywood aspirations through these poor kids, how's Drew Barrymore's mom getting her all drunk and stoned at 12 years old so that she could go hang out with movie stars and get f ucked....

    This sums up womens golf

The ladies at our club arranged to play the gents in a foursomes friendly and i was asked by the Captain if i could play as none of the men were interested. I agreed as a favour to him.

I arrive on the tee to be told that the ladies had decided that in order to give them a chance the following conditions had been imposed

    1. The ladies were playing off their tees but as it was a comp we had to play off the mens comp tees.

    2. They were to receive a courtesy shot on every hole

I spoke to the Ladies Captain and asked who had agreed to the men having to play an extra 1400 yards over them and give them an extra 18 shots. She said she had made that decision. I told her that i didnt have a big issue with the 18 shots as they were all hackers anyway but if i had to play off the medal tees they could play off the mens yellow tee's. This was not appreciated and i was told i wasnt being very gentlemanly. At this point i was told by the Captain that they pulled the same stunt every year hence why none of the men wanted to play. I agreed to play to keep the peace.

Me and my partner f ucking destroyed the cheating worthless pieces of piss stained shite 5 and 4. Didnt play in it this year, cūnt's

Ty Tryon was another golfing prodigy tragedy. Like Wie's parents, his dad thought he was a world beater at 16 and decided he could go straight to the tour and start winning everything. He tried to run before he could crawl and hasn't been seen or heard of fro a few years now. Tiger's dad knew the value of a good amatuer career and college before trying to go out and beat the best players in the world in professional tournaments on tricked up courses. Tiger had more ability than anyone who ever lived at a young age, but his handlers were smart enough to know to protect him at a young age and not destroy his confidence. Wie may have finally turned the corner, but I have no doubt that being pushed into events that were way out of her depth, and seeing everybody in the field lap her, would have devestated her confidence. Hiring that hack Leadbetter probably didn't help much either, but i digress. Tiger's winning record from juniors right through the amatuers was much more beneficial to him and his long term career than the short term cash grab Wie and Tryon's parents went for.

Good post....so true, I'm glad my parents didn't go for the money too early with me too, otherwise I wouldn't be where I am today
