    Dave Vs. Qtong Live Updates

Dave is going to be calling my cell phone with live updates. I will enter the updates for him rather than him having to access the internet on his iPad and take the time between holes to type. He called me about 20 minutes ago and said they were going to tee off very soon. Feel free to post advertisements and other useless junk. Thanks.

OK, the first hole was pushed because both Qtong and Dave three putted for double bogey.

    All Square after Hole #1

Update: Qtong's drive went into the woods on the 2nd hole. Big Dave about to hit his approach.

Dave wins with a double bogey on 2. Qtong went into the water twice and then picked up. I guess that's what you would call a double dip or "beyond a snowman".

Match Status: Big Dave up 1 after 2 holes.

Qtong fails to get up and down on the 3rd Hole. Dave hits fairway, hits iron onto green and then two putts for a par. For those of you not familiar with the game, this is not a good start for Qtong. It sounds like he's 7 over after three holes...and that's giving him the benefit of only four over on the 2nd hole where he picked up. Dave isn't fairing much better at four over par after 3 holes. It's a chopper fest but an exciting one at that.

Match: Dave 2 up after hole #3.

Yah, you can't mix stroke and match play. After going in the lagoon Qton might have tried to pull off mission impossible. Likewise if dave is up he might lag a putt instead of charging or using his darth like force to "will" the ball into the hole.

Qton might be in for a reckoning. I was going to make an excuse about being stiff from traveling but he's like 12. So he should be limber and ready to go....

Qtong makes a comeback and wins the 6th so now Dave is 3 up after 6 holes. As we were speaking Dave said that they are teeing off on the 7th hole. Could this be the greatest comeback ever?

Qthong is playing with Mizuno MP-68 irons. This will be a true test of Mizuno grain flow forged and it's ability to win tournaments.

That's true. Sometimes you're forced to go for it in a match when you wouldn't do the same thing in stroke play. I think scores tend to be higher in match play.

Qtong 3 putts number 7 to tie Dave. Both had Bogeys.

Qtong 3 putts number 8 to lose to Dave.

Dave is now back to 4 up after 8 holes. They are teeing off on number 9...obviously.

FD... the match gotta be over by now... let me guess... big Dave gave the young stud a run for the money, this is a match between Adams and Mizuno... Who ever won could have this turkey for Thanksgiving... She could be too much for big Dave, perhaps this young stud can give it a shot

The key to matchplay is you've got to decimate before you get decimated.

Answer to trivia question: The actress that played Lacy Underall was legally blind when she made the movie. No, she didn't dive off the diving board into the pool.

Oops, good catch. My bad. I meant to say the Big Dave parred 11 and Qtong bogeyed it. I accidentally wrote "birdie" by mistake. So, Qtong is 5 down going into the 12th hole. Poor wretch.

Both slouches had bogeys on the par 4 12th.

On the 13th, Qtong parred and Dave hit his approach over the green. Qtong wins the 13th.

Dave is now 4 up with 5 to play.

Dave just won the 14th hole to go up 5 with 4 to play. Good call Mward!! Dave has won the match and they are going to play out the rest of the holes. Kuddos to Qtong for driving all the way to Dallas after spending all night in the airport.

I think there are several lessons we can take away from this match but I have no idea what they are.

    Thank you for viewing.

    Today, I sucked less. :-)

As has been said, in match play you try crazy sheite, and if it doesn't work you pick up and put an X on the card. And lose the hole.

That happened a few times today. Don't know what the score would have been, don't care. Match play.

qtong started cold and didn't have enough holes left to make it up. He was stiff and tired from a night on an airport bench and hours in the car.

Given all that, the guy has a TREMENDOUS golf swing, he's got an impact position and a move through the ball that is dang near professional after taking up the game two years ago. I hope the video does him justice. You hackers and not-a-hackers should have the privilege of seeing him hit a 7 iron that hangs in the air forever and goes 180 yards.

And he's a great guy.. I really enjoyed his company, funny guy, belongs on GR and a lock for ROTY. He acknowledges that the unblinking eye of the GR cam is intimidating.. experience in this area really helps...

He wants a rematch... I think it'll happen... if he starts out with his head in the game, he'll be hard to beat. Hopefully next time he'll travel a few days in advance. :-)

given all my stuff goin' on, the vid will be a few days.. but I'll try and get some screen-grab still shots up tonight or tomorrow.

    "Cap'n Zinger" gimme a break. :-)

Glad that you two had fun and Kudos to both of you for a friendship game... I can tell that big Dave is more experience in a match play and this young gun Qtong has a lot of talent and potential... big Dave: You won the match but I think it's fair that you let Qtong stuff that turkey, she's too much for you to handle

I'll try and get this all out in one post... WAY to tired after a total of 15hrs driving, 3hrs flying, 6 hours waiting for a delayed flight, an over night stay because of the delayed flight, and arguing with the baggage people over my my misplace luggage to give the computer too much attention.

Let me start off by staying Dave played well with his grooved, and might I add powerful and deadly accurate, push draw. I wasn't ready for this today, the glass eye made my butthole pucker up more than I anticipated. Once I learned to ignore it, I started playing golf again. All in all, my drives were terrible but didn't bother me, my irons (GFF) were my saving grace though to as accurate as I would hope. I was still able to get out of sticky situations. I forgot which hole it was but dave and I both blocked our tee shots right and were behind a THICK group of trees. Under the grace of my Mizzies I cut a punch shot about 150 yards just short of the green (we didn't get video on that shot, dave had to speak with his wife on the phone but the pitch preceding that was the one where I banked it off the hill to roll next to the pin for a birdie putt.) As for what REALLY killed me today: I could not figure out the green for the life of me. I have not three putted very often for a while now and these greens KILLED me. They were fluffy and fast with no breaks on lines that were on a side hill while others just did a 90* turn. Maybe it's because of the bermuda vs bent, I don't know.... They didn't seem to have been mowed in a while.... All in all, once I got my head straight it was too late. I think of this as a GREAT learning experience, more than any other competitions I've done. I've never been able to rally my head back before so that's a great improvement. Thanks for making this happen Dave, rematch is already overdue.

Simple explanation why I lost: Dave played better (duh), I peed myself in front of the glass eye, and I don't have the acquired skills to putt on a truly different style green.

    Dave,

This sort of humility and grace in victory is totally unacceptable for GR. You need to be rubbing Qtong's nose in it and telling us all what a sod laying chopper he is.

I'm afraid that this sort of public display of softness may have slid by in the past, but will not go unnoticed, or unpunished, by our new King, who has already made clear his intentions of a bloodthirsty, despotic regime. Justice will be swift and brutal.

Gotta give props to qtong for even showing up to play under the circumstances... that's dedication, something which all the GR club ho's (two bad shots and it's outta the bag!) know little about.

Congrats on the victory Dave, though I doubt there's much honor on handing it to a guy who slept on a bench the night prior, however. This deserves a proper rematch.

Q sounds like a playah in the making.

Another challenge match in the books, and another victim was DP'd. Don't know if I want to see video of that.

Tonger - sounds like an overall crappy day. Credit for getting out there and giving the effort.

That's the last time I post tired and intoxicated. I thought Dave had only one eye and was doing his best Stuart Scott impression.

    I'm now very disappointed.
